Hi

Not sure if this has been done before but am due to start clomid next month and could do with some happy stories. Please let me know why you were prescribed it and how long it took to get pregnant.

I know i am in the wrong thread but didn't get a response on ttc thread. As hopefully you are all here.

Many thanks

hiya Natty - only a quickie, just wanted to leave a word of encouragement. I was delighted to concieve on my second month of clomid. Previous to this I had ovarian drilling to deal with PCOS and also lap and dye to check tubes.
Felt like I would never get pregnant, and when I first went on clomid, I was like you and hunted out the success stories.
Keep at it girl, dont give up, and GOOD LUCK!!
xxxxxxx

I'm in the same situation as you natty; still trying to conceive. Me and my husband have been trying to conceive for about a year and a half now. So far I have taken one cycle of clomid with no success, and when my period comes this month I will take another.I really hope this time it works! I just keep praying about it. I'm sure it will happen in Gods time. I'll keep you in my prayers, please keep me in yours.

Be sure to let us know about your success story when it happens!

I was prescribed Clomid after my periods went AWOL after a MC in March this year. I had a bleed five weeks after MC, then a period six weeks after that and then nothing! 12 weeks later the consutant gave me progesterone to make my period come then I took Clomid and it worked first month. I am now five weeks pregnant (and very scared) but at least it worked.

Good luck!

I always took a while to concieve - compared to friends and family. Between 6 and 12 months. Even though I knew when I "should" have been ovulating, and timed intercourse correctly etc.

Infact, even when we tried to concieve every other day (becuase we accepted that ovulation can be unpredictable!).

On top of that I had 3 (early) miscarriages, 1 before each liveborn child.

I asked my Dr for testing after the 3rd miscarraige - and was told "we know your system works, just keep trying" and I got NO testing!

After my 3rd child, I used "Depo Provera" as a contraceptive. This gave me terrible moodswings and horrendously high blood pressure (185 over 120!!!). The nurse giving me it kept asking "Do you normally get high bloodpressure in pregnacy?" (no I didn't!), as the depo is supposed to trick your body into thinking it is already pregnant therefore preventing ovulation.

I also got oedema (severe water retention), My wedding ring which is normally loose was practically embeded in my finger!!!

Anyway, 18 months after I finished the last course of depo, we had been trying to conceive and getting nowhere. I was now 36 years old and worried that time was running out.

I approached my gp, and was told "just keep trying".

I went to see a female Gp instead, who herself had been on fertility treatment. She referred me straight away to a fertility clinic.

At the fertility clinic, the did no tests to find out why I was infertile, instead they started me on Chlomid.

After my first month on chlomid, I was scanned to check I was not producing too many eggs. I was mortified to find it had not worked - I had produced NO EGGS that month at all!

They doubled the dose up to 100mg, and scanned me again the following month - I was so elated that I had produced TWO EGGS! .

I had a quick chat with the nurse before I left, saying "It's one thing me getting pregnant - but how do I stay pregnant" (referring to my miscarriages).

I was given a prescription of progesterone pessaries to use the week following ovulation (and the week before my next period would be due). I was also advised to take a baby aspirin per day, because I'd had no testing for the miscarriages, and she said it certainly wouldn't do any harm - but research had shown it did help a lot of women.

I was amazed that a "first response" pregnancy test taken 9 days after ovulation (and a whole WEEK before my period was due!) showed POSITIVE!

It's been stressful, as I've had spotting - but I have ONE baby growing now (was hopeful of twins but that was not to be - am just thankful to be pregnant at all!), and there is no obvious cause for the spotting.

I'm still on the aspirin and progesterone. I'm 14 weeks tomorrow!

Chlomid corrects MANY different problems surrounding conception (from simply not producing eggs, to making sure the eggs you produce are ripe enough for succesful fertilization, and correcting horomone problems such as "luteal phase defects".)

It really is a "wonder-drug" and works for MANY women!

I wish you every success.

how long do u have to take clomid 4?
to get pregnant,

and can i prescribe them 4rm my doc?

Report
Didylicious · 08/12/2007 15:05

MQqueen, You usually take the clomid starting on day 2 or 3 of your period, for 5 days, you would expect to ovulate around day 14.

I think some people get them from their GP - but then your gp is only guessing what your "working dose" of chlomid is..... so you could be taking 50mg, and it might not work for you - or you could be "sensitive" to it, and produce 5 or more eggs - which is not good - because a multiple pregancy of that nature might have a low success rate!

It's best to get reffered to an NHS fertility clinic, where they are able to monitor the effect of the chlomid, by scanning your ovaries around day 12 of your cycle, to see if it's working at that dose for you - and check you're not producing too many eggs (in which case they can increase or lower your dose).

My first round on 50mg did not work AT ALL! I did a 2nd round on 100mg, and produced two eggs (which was good!), so I had the possibility to have twins, but infact only one egg was fertilized and "took" - so I have a singular pregnancy - and MIL will never guess I had fertility help to produce my 4th child!!!

(MIL isn't keen on grandchildren)

Hey MQueen, don't know if this will help you or just frustrate you more, but I have always had 28 day regular periods (for 15 years!) and my GP happily prescribed me Clomid, which I took for 5 cycles before BFP.

My understanding is that Clomid also ensures that you eggs are mature enough to be fertilised, and can help you to produce more than one egg per cycle, thus increasing your chances, NOT just to regularise things.

I went to the fertility clinic about the time I was on my fourth cycle of clomid. The specialist was also supportive of me taking Clomid and said they would have put me on it for 6 months before doing anything else (because at that stage my infertility was unexplained). Keep your chin up and good luck.

I had Clomid for a couple of months after a PCOS diagnosis. It did work though I didn't get pregnant - but did get pregnant a couple of months later. I'd seen a nutritionist and went on a low GI diet which I am convinced really helped to get my cycles more regular again.
