Sounds like it could be Braxton hicks foody, does the tightness come and go?

Tallyra · 04/02/2014 21:40

well I just found out today that my mat leave won't be covered at all. as my colleague did so well covering while I was ill they are just going to give all the work to her. makes me feel very valuable!
I had a ridiculous amount of scans, 1 a week til about 14 weeks, because my consultant was so worried about my mental health, being so sick and worried about mmc and depressed at the same time. each one I was convinced would be the one with the bad news, but each one just got bigger. I wouldn't have had any extras if it was up to us, we are skint so I really appreciated it and it helped me get through to the point where I stopped feeling so sick. haven't had any for ages now but I'm ok, and I can feel her all the time so I'm much happier now!

Foodylicious · 04/02/2014 21:43

Not really boom just gets uncomfyer as the day goes on, then eases a little in the evening once I have rested

Bunnygirlie · 04/02/2014 22:35

Evening.

merk I can't join the grads group it'll be all babies. I'm barely in the copter!

foody yes I had chicken pox when I was younger.

boom I don't have a midwife!!!!!

I really really really don't want work to know!

kitty extra scans? Whassup? What have I missed?

Boomgoestheweasel · 05/02/2014 05:59

Good point bunny. Call the GP, they can do it for you. If you've had CP you're most likely fine, I would still get your antibodies checked as a precaution.

foody hmm, maybe not then. Does it feel draggy, as if your bump's really heavy? Can only suggest lots of moisturiser and maybe a support band..

I spoke too soon re: the jab, my arm is dead this morning! Swimming was lovely last night though, def going to do that again Grin

Bunnygirlie · 05/02/2014 08:15

Morning!

Feeling sick as a dog today, not sure if it's the nasty symptom kicking in or my IBS kicking in coz I'm stressed.

Thanks for advice ladies, I have left a message with FC for nurse to all me back, will see what they say and then maybe call GP.

PoppySeedBun · 05/02/2014 10:45

Hello berries!
Feeling a bit grotty myself today - have acquired a cough and feeling a bit headachy. Fortunately working from home for tube strike/supposed to be waiting in for boiler men (who have just cancelled Sad)

foody my bump has been sore on and off from about 21/22 weeks. I've put mine down to Braxton Hicks, as it does go tight as you describe, and doesn't seem to last all day. I've read some advice that suggests that keeping hydrated helps, or going to the loo fairly frequently because a full bladder might exaggerate it - no idea if those are actually useful things or not. Some suggestion that it's also worse when tired or stressed.

wino I had scans at 8, 10, 12, 20 weeks - early ones because of previous mmc. I really wanted to wait as long as I could for the first one, but was so relieved when I had the 8 week one. Doesn't stop the worry for long, though.

Thunderpantsarego · 05/02/2014 15:22

Hi all,

Popping by- is boom around or maybe someone else might be able to help me...

I had a load of sudden sharp pains over my whole bump today. Only lasted a few mins but was pretty uncomfortable to touch it or to move. The muscles hadn't contracted or anything, just felt like sharp pains in the skin/muscle all over. What is it?! YOUCH

Angelina77 · 05/02/2014 17:08

Hi Foody, I'm due 22nd June (boy).

Had my 20 wk scan today and all is fine so that's a relief. Anterior placenta which explains why I haven't felt much movement and when I do it's still hard to distinguish.

I also have some tight pains that come and go, some times I have to hunch over to reduce the pain but I think that's ligament stretching?

Foodylicious · 05/02/2014 17:19

yay angel that's lovely, glad it went well!!!
Movement feeligns seem to come and go, some days they are distinct tappings, other days more fizzing shuffly type feelings. Also when baby is facing in not out we don't really feel the movements anyway!

off to yoga now then for yummy food!

Tallyra · 05/02/2014 17:27

I'm getting a bit fed up of all the movement actually. I keep getting what moist people say are baby having hiccups, like a muscle tic really low down by the pelvis. too light to feel on the outside but really annoying as it goes on for often ten minutes. I shouldn't complain, it means she's really active and should be in good health, but having kicks in the guts when you have a stomach bug isn't great!

Tallyra · 05/02/2014 17:27

lol. moist people????

Bunnygirlie · 05/02/2014 18:40

Glad scan went well angel

Moist people Shock Grin

Got out of the car far too quickly earlier and had an major ouchy twinge, guess I need to take things slower already. Wtf?!?

Brodicea · 05/02/2014 19:10

eesh, my bump is also feeling very tight and uncomfortable. Sat on the sofa trying to stretch out last night just to relieve the pressure at the bottom of my chest. Think my ribs must have started floating too.

a boo hoo

Brodicea · 05/02/2014 19:10

Ace news on the scan too angel I have an anterior one too, but can feel things at the bottom (when she's stomping on my cervix!) and at the sides sometimes

CatsCantFlyFast · 05/02/2014 19:38

Sorry Thunder, I have absolutely no idea. Hope you're ok.
FYI chiro man said if bump is tight you should lean forward on a chair with knees lower than hips to encourage baby down and away from your ribs. Is a bit counter intuitive

BlindKitty · 05/02/2014 20:16

foody yep my bump feels sore at the top but quite sore it's just muscular

angel fab scan news, hope it reassures you for a reasonable amount of time!

bunny you'll have a mw soon. Mine wanted to see me for 'booking in' at 8 weeks. Just speak to the fc nurses for now if you're concerned.

The reason why I'm having extra scans is because someone (in the last 13 years) wrote that I'd had a loop excision on my cervix when actually I'd had something called cryotherapy. Basically it's my word against my medical notes but at least I'm getting scans I wouldn't have had otherwise.

So my kitten is growing nicely (weighs predicted 752g today). Annoyingly they didn't do my cervical length scan as they don't don't do them past 24 weeks...the whole reason why they booked the scan in the first place Hmm!!! They won't discharge me yet either, even though they're not doing any more scans! Was about to kick off about it but then thought of merk being desperate for a consultant appointment and even though I'm fine now I might be glad of the extra attention as I get bigger

PoppySeedBun · 06/02/2014 07:08

kitty great news on your scan! My est weight at 20 weeks was about the same (though I'm convinced I'm going to have a bruiser - I was 8lb 12 and my DH was 9lb+) Shock

Sound like there's a lot of bump soreness going on. Must try the all fours thing to reposition her though probably not going to do that at work

Saw this interesting piece in the New York Times this morning about epidurals and second stage labour, suggesting that at least US obstetricians need to wait longer before deciding it has been unusually long. Also says it's not clear that epidural causes a longer stage, or whether women who have epidurals have some other reason that would cause longer labour.
nyti.ms/1it3vHb

Off to do battle with the tube strike this morning - wonder what the odds of a seat on the train will be Hmm

Boomgoestheweasel · 06/02/2014 08:05

Morning folks.

thunder, sorry, I can't be much help - not sure what it could be unless possibly the beginnings of stretchmarks? Is your skin very tight? Maybe try your midwife who is hopefully older and wiser than I, but can't think of an obvious diagnosis.

angel and kitty glad scans went well. Both my placentas are anterior angel, the kicks will get stronger as the baby outgrows the placenta although I suspect they'll never reach the washing machine spin cycle setting that poor old tally is experiencing!

bunny how are you doing?

poppy thanks for that link, off to peruse over brekkie! Good luck getting a seat..

Thunderpantsarego · 06/02/2014 09:37

Morning all.

boom do stretch marks hurt then? Haven't had the pain back luckily so I'll chalk it up as another mystery pregnancy related phenomenon. I don't feel like my skin is particularly tight- I seem to have a nice pinchable fat layer all over I wonder where that could have come from but am now on stretch mark watch.

Fantastic scan news guys, we love a bit of good news! And tally I know what you mean about the hiccups....

CatsCantFlyFast · 06/02/2014 09:38

Urgh, had a truly horrible night with a combination of peeing every hour, and lack of sleep caused by heartburn and nightmares. Poor DH has to go to work after I've kept him awake all night tossing and turning. Really tempted to buy one of these but seems a waste this late on

Tally I have the baby like a washing machine too, its frustrating/worrying as chiro reckons she's trying to engage but my pelvis is too tight for her to drop

Brodicea · 06/02/2014 10:37

Boo merk sounds rubbish. I think the holo looks amazing! I suppose when you're massive is the time you need it though.

I had terrible calf pain in the night. I used to have it all time before I had my ankle condition diagnosed (ankle equinus - yes, basically I have hoof feet, that are shaped like barbies and have to wear insoles). It hurt so much I cried out and poor DH woke with a jolt thinking I was going into labour or something! I had to spend ten minutes calming him down.

Boomgoestheweasel · 06/02/2014 10:54

Stretchmarks don't necessarily hurt thunder but when your skin has reached its limit it can get really itchy and prickly so I wondered if that could be it. Most likely another mystery pregnancy thing as you have so accurately self-diagnosed!

merk my sympathies for the horrible night, I was probably up weeing in unison with you (serves me right for necking a massive fruit/veg juice before bed in an attempt to get some vitamins in me). And then the dog woke up and started crying at 5 so I was outside in my pyjamas picking up dog poo by 5.30! Have started taking rennies before bed, it really does seem to help with the heartburn. That lilo thing looks amazing, could you recreate it with some creative pillow distribution?

poppy I'm not overawed by the journalism in that article, it sounds a bit higgledy piggledy. Wanted to go and read the original research but irritatingly my Athens password has run out so I can't access the journal! Will see if I can open it at work tomorrow though.

Angelina77 · 06/02/2014 11:55

I can sympanthise with those struggling to sleep, my poor other half has had to sleep on the sofa most nights for the past 3 months :( We're moving into our lovely new house in 4 weeks though, complete with massive new luxury bed (the one we have at the moment is literally the worst bed I've ever slept in).

I've decided it's time to buy some proper maternity clothes today, I've left it far too long. My bump is massive already :s

Foodylicious · 06/02/2014 16:53

How odd kitty,I have had my 3rd and final cervix scan today at 21&1/2 weeks and been discharged back to midwife care. Must just be different trusts. All was good though, measurement fine and got to have another look at the little one even if it was too active for a good picture :-)

Lots of crampy tight pains today but turns out is just bloody ibs! Better than it being anything else but ow! Made me walk funny and everything.

OH got to feel first little flicker from outside bump yestarday and I don't think its stayed still all day. Could feel ot when I was stood up today too! All lovely if a bit distracting :-D. Hope you got through the day ok merk you must be shattered x
