Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
bakingtins · 17/01/2014 19:41

Thank you everyone. katatonic I'm not on any treatment now, I was on steroids, clexane, progesterone and high dose folic acid for first trimester.

armadale glad your scan went well. I put off and put off booking because one of my previous MC actually started at the booking appointment, and it was the same (lovely) MW, same room etc. It was ok when I steeled myself to go, just seemed really bizarre to be answering questions about what I wanted to happen at delivery when I was still freaking out I was going to miscarry.

Penguinita · 17/01/2014 21:02

Congrats tins and welcome to team pink! We must have enough for an all girl football team on here now!

I had my 21 week midwife appointment today and got the crap ditzy midwife again. She is so bad that I lied and said I couldn't do a Friday morning appointment when she tried to book me in for my next one, in the hope of avoiding her shift!

I asked her about my pelvic pain and she said there was no point going to the doctor because the waiting list for physio was so long I would never get an appointment before baby arrived. Is that true?

She also didn't give me my matB1 form but I guess I can wait until 25 weeks for that.

fod27 · 17/01/2014 21:12

penguin book in with your GP, you need to see someone as thru measure how far you can open your legs and the best labour positions etc as to avoid causing you permanent damage in labour, it all needs to be out on your birth plan - also if it gets worse you can be sure to get paid pregnancy sick leave etc you may also need crutches or (worse case scene rio) wheelchair. It sounds like SPD. I have it and it's incredibly painful on a good day, it may worsen as your pregnancy develops

Please see a GP

ChristineDaae · 17/01/2014 21:23

Cbeebies so glad to see you back! I was wondering about you today. Yay one for team Blue!

Thanks fod, I will. To be honest I was shocked that she was so dismissive about it.

kjh5 · 17/01/2014 23:15

Penguin that is shocking! What a useless midwife. You must insist on being referred to a physio. My GP told me that all referrals for pregnant women are flagged up as urgent which means the NHS must see you within 2weeks. I got my physio appt 10 days after my GP referred me for SPD.

Your physio should assess you to see if your pelvis is out of joint. If it is and that is what is causing the SPD, they should gently manipulate you back into place/ give you exercises to do to help stabilise the pelvis and strengthen your pelvic floor and other muscles in that area (glutes for eg). My physio has been helping ease the back/hip and leg pain caused as a result of those muscles compensating for my loose joints, with soft tissue massage and she also got me a belt which I use whenever I leave the flat which helps stabilise my pelvis and stops more strain being put on the pelvis. (Although I f ind the nexcare belt I ordered online much more supportive than the one she gave me).

I've heard a lot lf horror stories about SPD - it's not pleasant but my experience so far is that is can be managed. Admittedly I can't really walk far or do much at the moment but at least I feel like I'm being given the appropriate medical care!

Hope you get a better MW next time!

allisgood1 · 18/01/2014 09:37

Penguin, I agree with the others, go to the GP. Physios on the NHS vary widely however, and many take the "hands off" approach. The only relief i ever felt was going to a private Physio who manipulated the joint over about 3 sessions until I was no longer in pain. Acupuncture was successful with my first as well.

Nothing to report here. 6 weeks now, this is my "danger week". I'm feeling very sick unless I eat a proper meal but the tiredness is killing (took a 2 hr nap yesterday and then slept 12 hours last night). Scan one week today.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 18/01/2014 10:52

Well, I think I've reached my limit with work. I've set up the stall and now im shattered! My hips hurt, my pelvic muscles are killing me, im getting stabby fanjo pains and I'd like a sleep. [Sad] Im going to speak to my boss later and break the news! Wish me luck!

MissMedusa · 18/01/2014 10:54

fod I had write this post about is overdue wife on facebook.

"I am so proud of [wife's name] for only gaining 6kg this pregnancy, 3kg of which are the baby"

Even my normally tactless DH thought that was a ridiculous thing to post.

fod27 · 18/01/2014 11:36

Good luck all we will be thinking of you, saggy if the time has come the time has come xxxx

medusa it's soooo ridiculous! When you think of the struggles we have been through to get our babies and these women are sooo wrapped in up their appearance as are their husbands it makes me cringe, my DH said "I love seeing you pregnant. I think to myself awww my pregnant wife, I will miss it when the baby is here"

I can't help but amuse myself over the shock that's coming to the vain first timers on my fb when they realise that weight gain isn't the only change their post baby body has in stall for them

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 18/01/2014 12:22

Hello yeah Fod!
Stretch marks, varicose veins and a lovely 'apron'! Grin

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 18/01/2014 12:44

Penguin please see your dr. I had a photo referral at 16 weeks and at 22 weeks saw someone (was delayed because of Christmas) the physio will definitely help and also be able to talk to you about birth and positions and things like getting in the car, walking up stairs, sleeping (all things that aggravate my pgp)
Ignore silly midwife and book an appointment (although she can and should have done the referral.

fod27 · 18/01/2014 13:17

Too right saggy not to mention nipples that have been soooo desensitised that a dog good bite into them and you'd be none the wiser hahaa

Silly girls

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 18/01/2014 13:51

HAHAHAHA! Not to mention the fact that your nipples no longer point skywards and the pencil test turns into whether you can store War and Peace under there or not!

fod27 · 18/01/2014 15:01

Hahaaa oooo yes the spaniels ears! Lol my friends laugh when I tell them we do it in the dark with my bra on hahaa, how little they know! We should write a book 'The truth about pregnancy'

Pixielady83 · 18/01/2014 16:44

aww saggy sorry to hear that, is that work finished then? are you Sad or relieved? hope your boss is ok.

medusa that status just gave me the rage! Angry after I had lost baby weight last time one of my friends DH kept commenting on how great it was I'd got the baby weight off and how I looked back to normal. I think he was trying to be encouraging but all I could think was a) have you spent the time since I had DD thinking what a lard arse I was and B) it really really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things and definitely shouldn't to you!

cbeebies great to see you Smile hope things are going ok xx

penguin check out the pelvic partnership website, kjh linked to it on last thread I think. loads of good advice. to be honest my physio has done bugger all apart from give me support belts but those are good so keep pushing for an appointment. There is a shocking lack of knowledge and actual care about pgp in hcps, first time I got it and was in agony all the GP had to offer was 'well it'll go when you give birth' Hmm

fod27 · 18/01/2014 16:56

Here here pixie!!!

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 18/01/2014 17:10

Ooh, I love sitting back and watching the fall out from these women when they can't loose weight. Dd2 was 10lb 9oz and I was left a zebra from boobs down, was 3 dress sizes bigger than pre dd and am left with a pouch. Had a very rude friend comment about weight gain (just weeks after I had given birth) in pregnancy and how she wasn't going to put any on, eat healthy unlike some etc. I just smiled and nodded. Despite her healthy eating she ended up bigger than I was. I feel quite sorry for her really she's still obsessed about weight and I technically (same weigh but still bigger than I was) lost it all naturally over a year while she's been yoyo and crash dieting and still hasn't lost anything.
My body may be covered I. Stretch marks, be a different shape and carry a little more fat than before but at is created a child! Does it really matter?

fod27 · 18/01/2014 17:19

My thoughts exactly cbeebies since when did we all compete with eachother? It's awful I worry for my DD future if we are defined by appearance it's very sad! You'd think these women would be pleased that they were blessed to carry life .... Nope enough is never enough for some it's quiet sad really

I've had all the comments since I was at the 12 week mark from a girl I work with - despite it being a pot calling the kettle situation and she had her las three years ago! In all honesty I think she's using my pregnancy as open season!

Pixielady83 · 18/01/2014 18:23

fod she sounds like a cow bag! totally unnecessary to comment grr! she wouldn't comment if you weren't pg so why use it as an excuse?

I'm feeling the need to get organised so looking at nappy deals. Can anyone remember how many size 1/newborn nappies they used with first kids? DD was 6lbs and suspect this one will be similar but I don't know if its worth buying a big box of 74 newborn nappies? I do remember her moving up the sizes earlier than the weights indicated so wonder if I should stick with smallish pack and then buy more as and when needed. I read online they need changing up to 10 times a day which I can tell you now I definitely did not do!

Sorry v boring but you know how you get fixated on things (hope you do!) at the moment I feel I won't relax til I get wee clothes washed, nappies etc bought and bag packed! I'm only 34 wks, this is a very early stage to feel like this I know, crazy pixie lady...

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 18/01/2014 19:56

Pixie, I would go with 1 small pack. DD1 was 8lb 9oz and in size 1 for weeks, with dd2 I assumed she would be the same, bought loads of size 1's and she was born 10lb 9oz and never used any of them (other than when we were in hospital and they didnt have any size 2!)

My advice would be to wait and see, you never know what's coming out! We're buying hardly anything this time around and will be relying on DH/my mum to buy stuff once the baby is born. DD2 never wore any of her new born outfits, but 0-3 months would have drowned dd1 as she was tiny but heavy!

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 18/01/2014 20:00

(its not crazy, its nesting!) I've been buying cushions, sorting cupboards and washing skirting boards, everything must be perfect for the arrival of Pop, however I'm only 24 weeks, it will all be dirty again by then and since when does a newborn give a flying monkeys about what cushions are on the sofa or how many pictures are on the wall*! Crazy Crazy hormones. But it has been keeping me distracted :)

Pixielady83 · 18/01/2014 20:36

ah thanks cbeebies glad I'm not on my own Grin good nappy advice too. must remember DH will be able to go out and get things!

I feel so disorganised, the baby not having it's own room is really phasing me. Obviously it won't be in its own room for ages but it was so lovely having a little nursery with low lights, changing area and clothes storage for DD last time even though she slept in our room for first few months. This time round we are shoe horning new baby and all its gear into our room and its going to be pretty cosy to say the least! we do have another bedroom but its on another floor and currently a playroom dumping ground I don't feel ready to move DD a floor away yet (or sort out the chaos in there!)... I'm hoping I'll find the strength next summer at some point for a complete shift around!

fod27 · 18/01/2014 22:21

We've bought 2 boxes for newborns and a box full of wipes too... I've even set up the changing table complete with creams etc

Pixielady83 · 18/01/2014 22:38

you are way ahead of me fod! had a good chat to DH about room logistics though and think we have a plan.

MIL driving me bit mad again. She has insisted on knowing next scan date (as that's when we will find out more on if its planned section or vbac) so DH finally gave it to her tonight. I feel so protective over this information. I know she is his mum but I just feel it is our my! business how and when baby arrives. Most of the time people don't have the luxury of knowing date, delivery method etc so I kind of feel like why should anyone know in our case either! Even if we get a date for a section, if baby moves or if they are too busy that day with emergencies it could all change again on the day. Doesn't help that ILs are 'close knit' and large family so often feels like all your personal info gets broadcast to loads of people without you being aware. Case in point, found out about new baby in family today not from parents but from great aunt of baby who had sent the email not just to family but to a long list of friends and asked some to forward onto those who she didn't have email address for Shock I think she had even screen grabbed a pic off facebook to add to her email. Over sharing much?!
