I hope no-one thinks this thread is too 'exclusive' or 'cliquey', but I can no longer join in with the weight loss thread, so I thought I would start this one up!

I wish I had had the benefit of the internet (and especially Mumsnet, of course!) first time around and felt pretty isolated after ds was born, so it's good to have some 'virtual' friends in the same boat now I'm expecting no 2.

It would be interesting as well to find out just how many of us are pregnant, there must be loads of us! and just to have a general chinwag.

Dixie, I'm glad your spirits have lifted a bit. Shame you couldn't make it on Sat - as Marina said, there's plenty of us who've felt like the last one to be picked in the school netball team!

I found things improved after ds was born and have started to make inroads with some of the other Mums at the Toddler group - it takes time and effort, unfortunately. I hope you find somewhere near you soon. Take care of yourself and I hope all goes well with the pregnancy, sorry you are feeling unwell. xx

You could try turning the whole thing on it's head and organising something you would like to see happen. Not that you feel like it now. A coffee morning at your house for mothers who are new to the area or something might throw up a few contacts. Your midwife might have an insight.

Sounds like your area needs someone to set up a nursery.

MalmoMum · 22/07/2002 20:08

38 and a half weeks and ds is out of traction! Popped off to the women's unit while in with ds as the bump has def dropped, I'm 2cm dilated which means nothing much with your second apparently.

Came home and had contractions every 5 mins but only like period pains and a warm bath has knocked them on the head. Relaxing with feet up but can't imagine the next bit happening. Ds had scribbled on the calendar and made a very distinctive mark on 25 July, so maybe he has the insight. The homebirth midwives were very confident that I wouldn't go into labour until ds was out of traction!

Forgot to buy pineapple when out. Time for RLT

batey · 22/07/2002 21:01

OOh-err! Take it easy and relax! Good news re:ds, thinking of you.

Enid · 22/07/2002 21:04

Oooh, I love it when this happens on mumsnet.

I want NEWS, as it happens, live video streaming (maybe not).

Good luck MalmoMum, thinking of you.

Nothing much happening, just had a nice sleep and my mother is staying on another day.

I'm losing the competition for space with the new position of the baby's head: Piles! Well, just one but you know it won't be lonely for long. I thought I had found the cream the doctor had prescribed the last time but I seem to be wrong. Trying to work out if I can be bothered to try and see the doctor here tomorrow as I get the feeling here that they don't hand out exciting steriod based products very freely. SO I might be stuck with the lavender oil cold compresses anyhow.

Bump is having a good wriggle after my sleep, somehow I think that babies about to emerge tend to be more settled, getting rest in for the long journey.

PamT · 23/07/2002 10:27

Malmomum, this is so exciting, could you get DP to give us a running commentary. I hope everything goes to plan for you. Good Luck!

MotherofOne · 23/07/2002 10:40

Hmmmm - just thought I'd let you know that I'm still hanging on in here too 40 wks + 3days. Have got to that irritated stage now where I just want it out...
For the record, have had 2 x reflexology sessions, 3 pineapples, umpteen cups of raspberry leaf tea, several walks , no curries (really can't face them) and a few other 'ahem' recommended activities, and although I keep getting braxton hicks that seem to be getting progressively stronger, no real contractions to speak of....
"Oh well," said my MIL, " it's a full moon tonight, that tends to bring on labour" (what??? anyone else heard this - what does she think I'm having, a baby or a werewolf?)
Can you all please have a collective Mumsnet 'will' that this baby comes soon....!

PamT · 23/07/2002 10:45

Bumpy car ride? With DD I coughed and broke wind (sorry) at the same time and this broke my waters!!! I did hear someone say - squat slightly with your legs apart and have a good cough. You might look silly but if it works.....

Harrysmum · 23/07/2002 11:06

Those braxton hicks might be doing more than you think! My community midwife said that it's all work done and when I went in for a check-up (I had a hind water leak but no contractions or anything) they found I was 4cm dilated so wouldn't let me go home again until the baby was born. Good luck!!

Enid · 23/07/2002 13:03

Motherofone - I was 3 days late with dd and sure enough went into labour on the full moon. My midwife said that there are definitely more deliveries around this time!

Don't know whether that means there are lots of little werewolves running around out there

Joe1 · 23/07/2002 15:36

Good luck to you both and heres hoping a speedy delivery.

My little one is really active and actually hurts sometimes, didnt have this first time round ds would go a day or two without me feeling him. I think I am also getting braxton hicks more regularly and these horrible sharp prods, not sure what they are, other than that feeling pretty good as long as I keep up with the sleep and rest. Not that long now especially if my first date of 18th September is the correct one. Midwife on Thursday with bloods, lovely then down to four weekly I think.

Hope everyone else is feeling as good as we havnt had much chatting on this thread lately.

pupuce · 23/07/2002 19:24

Courage Motherofalmost2!
I know it's gertting irritating but maybe baby isn't completely ready.... and I had a meeting with the head of our local midwives and she handed me the hospital stats and said : "Gosh I wish women would be encourage to be patient and not jump at the idea of being induced... look at those stats !"
She was refering to the fact that most (70%) induced women ended up either with forceps or ventouse or a c-section - at least in our hospital !
So be patient but I will be thinking of you... come on Mumsnet to think about other things

MotherofOne · 23/07/2002 19:43

Thanks Pupuce - I'm definitely in no hurry to be induced - at least not artificially - I'm still convinced that's why I ended up with my last c-section. And given the fact I'm hoping for a home water birth, going into hospital for an induction simply isn't part of my plan at the moment. Saw the MW today, and baby is in a good position - 2/5 engaged and left anterior. She thinks it won't be long!

MalmoMum · 23/07/2002 19:57

Thanks Pupuce. Wise words. The midwives here in Sweden are very reluctant to induce so there is encouragement to regard pregnancy as being 42 weeks rather than you have crossed the finish line at 37 weeks. So nice to have it backed up.

Was induced last time and am really hoping I don't have to be again.

WideWebWitch · 23/07/2002 20:01

Oh good luck Malcomum, thinking of you, how exciting!

MalmoMum · 23/07/2002 20:13

Meant to send a message of support to you, Motherof currently one. Hope you have a natural progression to labour. Wish you all the best with your home birth, really hope we can compare notes (still anxious to state I want a home birth as well).

Best wishes

MotherofOne · 23/07/2002 20:20

Thanks - and likewise, good luck to you too, Malmomum. I just need to keep busy, and I'm sure it will all just happen in due course - I certainly feel more 'ready' than I did last time!

tigermoth · 24/07/2002 07:39

Another day! good luck to you both.

MalmoMum · 24/07/2002 08:51

Non painful tightenings every 6 mins again. I had to dig some Heinz tomato soup out of the imported from the UK store as that's just what I fancy right now.

Mopsy · 24/07/2002 09:01

Hi Malmomum - this is so exciting!

Just to tell you about my experience: in stark contrast to my first labour, my second consisting solely of non-painful tightenings - I'd had them every 5 mins for 1.5hrs and thought I'd get the midwife out (home birth) to check me over. She was sceptical but I persuaded her to come and put my mind at ease anyway....she found I was 7cm and dd was born 2hrs later.....

thinking of you all
love Mopsy xx

GRMUM · 24/07/2002 09:05

Good luck to both of you - will be thinking of you whilst I'm on the beach -off in 20 minutes to do a bit of sunworshipping.... I have to say i'm a teeny weeny bit envious..........

pupuce · 24/07/2002 09:20

Yes- this is getting exciting ! Also had home births.... they are fab. Just relax and do your thing.... you will all be fine. Whether in hospital or at home, it's your confidence in your ability that will help you through (just read that in a obst. report).

jodee · 24/07/2002 09:21

Best wishes to you both, looking forward to some good news soon

PamT · 24/07/2002 09:43

I can't go out today now, I can't wait to hear the next installment (as if you won't have more important things to think about!!) Please keep us informed. Thinking about you.
