I hope no-one thinks this thread is too 'exclusive' or 'cliquey', but I can no longer join in with the weight loss thread, so I thought I would start this one up!

I wish I had had the benefit of the internet (and especially Mumsnet, of course!) first time around and felt pretty isolated after ds was born, so it's good to have some 'virtual' friends in the same boat now I'm expecting no 2.

It would be interesting as well to find out just how many of us are pregnant, there must be loads of us! and just to have a general chinwag.

Hi all, Joe1 my dd is now 12 October (after my nuchal scan) although I havent had my official dating scan yet (next Monday). Had been feeling better but feel crap today - also old, fat and grey which doesnt help. Have booked myself in for a glamourising hair cut on Friday in an effort to cheer myself up!!

Glad your scan went well, I must say it was lovely to see baby on screen, a leaping, kicking vision of hyperactivity...god, not another one....

ouch, we are all very close aren't we! Poor you having a bleed. Its so worrying isnt it? I had a bleed with dd at about 11 weeks that was terryfying, then my next pregnancy ended in miscarriage so I've been checking desperately every time I go to the loo!!! Absolutely nothing this time round thank goodness.

This week I am eating mostly: M&S bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches.

Tetley · 10/04/2002 15:26

I've just got back from my scan - they've agreed with my date of October 13th - I think there's going to be quite a few babies born in October by the sound of it!

It all seems a bit more real now that I've seen the little one! I can believe that I am actually pregnant again now! Even though I've been feeling completely c**p, it didn't seem real until now! Enid - my baby too was exceptionally lively on the scan - I must admit I cringed as I too have one of those already who wears me out! Oh well, it'll be fun!

Joe1 · 20/04/2002 16:08

Havnt heard from anyone for a while how is everyone doing?

Dixie · 23/04/2002 11:45

Well I'm now 30 weeks...and count down has begun...still don't feel ready at all. The baby's room is still to be sorted. Some other parts of the house are still a danger zone, but we're working on them slowly. We made the garden SAFE at the weekend so at least when new baby arrives in sunny June I can sit out there & let ds N01 run & play about without too much worry!

It does get me down that things won't be done in time for the birth but I've decided that all the worrying won't help just to let what happens happen. To be honest, we've had so much else to worry about with these extra scans to check the baby's kidney condition etc that I've put in to perspective what is important. At least I know the little un will be ok, it will need treatment at birth but it will be okay!

Still undecided as to go for another 'c' section or try for an induced natural.....

Other dilemmas are what do I need to buy for No2...so unsure, don't want to duplicate but also don't want to leave anything out...it seems harder this time, at least 1st time I knew I had to get everything!

Also a bit worried how ds N01 will be about new baby.

goiod grief, haven't I rambled on there, went into day dream of all my thoughts and couldn't stop myself....sorry girls.

jasper · 24/04/2002 04:27

Dixie my new baby is just 7 weeks old but I remember well reaching the 30 week mark and it was kind of a watershed - very definately pregnant but it still seemed a long way away.
I wish I could reassure you these last few weeks will fly by, but they won't!
Don't worry about getting too organised. There is very little you need to do/buy before the birth. My sil went into labour 3 weeks early with her first last week with nothing packed at all - just dashed to hospital. Her dh sorted out some hospital stuff for her and others got the house ready for her return home.
I always smile at the bit in the pregnancy mags about packing your bag for hospital - what do you really need? A couple of nighties, pants and a toothbrush! I remember seeing some women on the labour ward with bulging suitcases. The hospital staff must groan when they see them arriving.
Hope all goes well for you.

jasper · 24/04/2002 04:29

Dixie, forgot to add, have you been following the C-section discussion on the "too posh to push" thread" ? ( the discussion has veered off the title of the debate)

ScummyMummy · 24/04/2002 07:08

Hi Dixie,
I've been thinking of posting for you on the missing person's thread but figured you might be too busy... Hope things are looking ok with the babe's renal pelvis and you're getting lots of info and reassurance from the docs/ scanner operators. How's it all going?

Dixie · 26/04/2002 09:00

Hi Scummy Mummy, we've been back & forth for scans & were referred to kngs college which we attended a fortnight ago. We saw a specialist from great ormond street whilst we were there & she was very reassuring. They've pin-pointed it to 2 options depending where the blockage is. If it's the kidney end baby will need an operation at birth, if it's bladder end then it is possibly 'reflux' which will take a while for baby to grow out of...anything upto 5 years, during which time baby will have to be monitored & will be more prone to urine infections. It's still worrying as you just want to hear that everything is ok with your baby i suposed but I've got my head round it now & have been reassured by the doctors & yourself a great deal. It's just one thing after another with this pregnancy, it's been problematic from the start so I haven't enjoyed it one little bit but the end is in sight....7 weeks to go (got to have baby at 38 weeks due to other problems)

Joe1 · 29/04/2002 11:11

Hi Enid, Im about 18 weeks now as the edd changed from 18th sept to 2nd Oct at my scan. Im having a couple of bad days, not being able to get rid of a headache, although I think some of that is that I am still doing something I dont want to do and couting the weeks until I dont. Im not feeling so sick anymore and havnt been for a while now. My energy levels are getting back slowly, but like you I do need to keep eating and drinking otherwise I feel awful. Hope you feel better soon and all the food tips help you. Baby gave me a nice kick the other night which was nice to feel.

Enid · 29/04/2002 11:17

Hi Joe, my edd is now 12 Oct after my dating scan. Heard the heartbeat last week - I always find that more 'bonding' than the scan for some reason. Looking forward to the 20 week scan so that I can relax completely that everything seems to be OK.

I think I can feel baby kicking, although my tummy seems to have a bit of a life of its own at the moment so I can't be absolutely sure!

Trying to eat little and often to keep blood sugar up, and have been feeling a bit better for the last couple of days. Everyones tips on my diet thread have been very helpful.

I did succumb to Heinz microwaveable golden syrup sponge pudding with a big scoop of ice cream last night that probably sent sugar levels haywire!!! Worth it though as it was delicious!!

Joe1 · 29/04/2002 12:51

We only get one scan but I would like to see it at 20 weeks. I noticed you were thinking of going on the Bath meet up, we should be going so it would be nice to see you.

debster · 30/04/2002 10:55

Hi Enid and Joe1

I'm also due on 12 October. I'm not sure whether I've felt any movements yet. When I'm lying on my back in bed sometimes I can feel what feels like bubbles in my abdomen but I'm not sure if it's the baby or wind! After a knackering 1st three months I'm feeling pretty good at the moment although I am suffering from an achy pubic bone. Almost as if it's bruised. I'm sure it's to do with the extra pressure and I did get it first time around as well. I also keep getting sharp pains in my abdomen especially when turning over in bed. I think this is due to all the ligaments stretching/relaxing etc. Don't really know much about the anatomy side of things! Anyone else getting these symptoms?

BTW can anyone explain why your boobs become so enormous when there are still 6 months to go? What exactly is going on on there?! Sorry to be so thick.

Enid · 30/04/2002 11:04

Hi debster and welcome to the October birth club! I think we are going to have to start a new thread 'Mums to be (2)' as this one has grown and grown!

Your pains sound like all the ligaments stretching. I have terrible sacro-iliac pain (SIL is a physio which is why I know the official name), which is basically shooting pains at the very base of my spine, at the top of my legs. Have been exercising which has really helped, especially the one where you go on all fours then arch your back, clench your buttocks and tilt your pelvis forward.

I had a pregnancy last year which sadly ended in miscarriage, I complained at the time that I had no symptoms, well its as if this time round I've got double!!!

Joe1 · 30/04/2002 11:27

Hi Debster welcome. I too had a very tiring and sick few months but feeling alot better and getting my energy back, with just the odd bad day. Those feelings in your tummy probably are the first movements you can feel. My little one threw itself at the side of my tummy the other night while in bed and felt like a huge kick. Everything is starting to feel real, instead of just a dream in a hectic life

Enid · 30/04/2002 11:32

I had NO bump until this morning, now its HUGE and I've already got a faint line running up my tummy from my tummy button and all my trousers are too tight!! What happened last night? I advanced about 2 months in one night.

Tetley · 30/04/2002 11:49

I've still got no bump - and I'm due just a day after you, Enid. I'm longing for a bump now (although I'm sure that when it does appear I'll wish it hadn't!!). I'm just at that annoying stage where my normal clothes are too tight around my waist, but maternity clothes are enormous.
I do think that I've felt some movements as well - I had thought it was too early as yet to feel this, but my SIL said she felt them earlier 2nd time around, and a few of you are also feeling it. So it must be the baby! That makes it feel so much more real!

cerys · 30/04/2002 11:59

I'm now 33 weeks and can't believe how fast time is going. My bump is quite impressive - just wish total strangers wouldn't touch it!
I feel much better with this pregnancy - just tired, which is to be expected with a very busy 22 month DD and also working fulltime. I am so looking forward to going part-time in the new year!
DD is a girl of few words, but she does say "baby" a great deal and pats my tummy, so all my talk of new arrivals must be sinking in! She seems to think she's got a baby too, as she looks in her vest and then pats her nappy, which is most cute...

Azzie · 30/04/2002 13:22

Enid, it seems to happen overnight with no. 2. With dd I went away for 3 days on business and dh was amazed when I got back - when I left I didn't look pregnant at all, then 3 days later I had a really pronounced bump.

Joe1 · 30/04/2002 13:53

I have had a bump for a while but it did seem to appear overnight. I bump into things with it already

Dixie · 30/04/2002 15:30

cerys, we seem to be in similar circumstances, I'm 31 weeks preg & have a young toddler already (ds is 26 months). Not long for us now! This final bit seems to drag even slower don't you think?

cerys · 01/05/2002 12:43

Hi Dixie

at the moment I am counting down to 17th May when my maternity leave starts and it does seem to be dragging. It is weird at the moment because I feel such a mixture of emotions - I can't wait for the baby to be here, while at the same time trying to make the most of DD and her last few weeks as an only child.
DD has developed a problem (as yet undiagnosed) with her leg and since January life seems to have been non stop hospital appointments, scans and tests for her. Now we are waiting on referrals to 2 specialists (one 50 miles away )and DD is to have physio and hydrotherapy. Around all this we are trying to work fulltime and make life pleasant and fun for her, as she's had a rough time of it, poor little mite.
Last night I woke with awful pains in my leg - I howled so much that DH thought I was in labour! It was more than cramps, which I get regularly - it felt like lots of trapped nerves. It still doesn't feel right today and I am really feeling like I want to stop work and have a rest. Thank goodness it's a bank holiday weekend!

Dixie · 01/05/2002 16:23

Oh poor you cerys! so much going on at the one time I truly sympathasise(?) I know what you mean about the mixed emotions though...some days I think oh just make it be over! then I think no I'm enjoying ds too much to have to share myself, then I get all scared about it all, then I get all chilled out and think what will be will be!! HORMONES have such a lot to answer for!!

I only work part-time so I'm starting my maternity leave as late as I can so I get more time off the other end with the baby. I'm due in June and have planned to work up till week 37 of my pregnancy! That's another thing I change my mind about..some days I regret it but then I think of all the time at the other end, I wish I could give up work for even longer but that little bit of income makes such a difference to hubby & me!!

With regard to you cramps..my midwife recommended I drink a glass of TONIC WATER each night before bed as it contains something beginning with 'Q' which is apparently very good for preventing cramp! I have found an improvement myself since I started drinking it 3 weeks ago..but it may just be coiencedence(?)

Sorry for any spelling errors, I'm not good at spelling & don't know how to spell check on here even though I've heard people mention it!

cerys · 02/05/2002 09:05

Dixie - thanks for the sympathy and for the tonic water tip (I think it's quinine that is the helpful ingredient). Will try that and pretend it's got vodka in it!
I ended up seeing my GP yesterday as the midwife was worried it might be deep vein thrombosis - but GP reckons sciatica, so I feel much calmer today! We all had a good night's sleep too, which helped a lot.

I've just re-read this thread and realised that you have had all this worry about your new baby - hope you are all OK.

Dixie · 09/05/2002 09:36

Just a quick post to let any other pregnant mum's to be know I'm still about wanting to know how you're doing....but discovered a mums to be 2 thread has been started for people due around the October time....so am I the only one left not due then.....I'm due in June. I thought the one thread was enough...we are all in the same circumstance of expecting..it was nice going through the different stages at various points as I could see what to expect from those ahead of me & hopefully advise those behind me. I know I still can but it was easier on the one thread. I don't want a heated debate about it just expressing my thoughts that now it means flicking through 2 threads when 1 did the same thing??

Enid · 09/05/2002 11:24

Sorry Dixie, I started it as it took so long for this page to load on my computer!

It was supposed to be a continuation of this thread, not just for October mums.
