Hi everyone,

This thread is for all you incessant worriers out there, not necessarily limited to IVF-ers, although I get the feeling the people who have had trouble TTC are more prone to worrying than others!

Must have been something in the air Dildals- Mini HY was quite fretful all evening at our nye dinner and would not settle in her pushchair to sleep, she had 40 winks on the walk home but then refused to nod off until 2am, my DH covered that shift so I could crawl into bed at 1. He tried rocking, ssshing, singing, walking around before giving in and letting her cry for 5 mins at which point she fell asleep. And slept for 4 hours, god love her, then fed and slept for a few more. Good god my tits were massive after 6 hrs of no feeds though, and the bed sheets were soaking. Nice. Actually I've just read that back and that's not bad really is it. Just felt like the end of the sodding world was nigh at 1 in the morning. She's asleep now actually, has been for just over 3 hrs and am fighting the temptation to wake her as I know she needs it and if that results in a later night for me then sod it (she was awake apart from 5-10 min power naps from 9am to 3.30pm). Dildals- I think I know who your dinner guests were and yes, they will have been thinking about Gina Ford Grin
Gin- glad it's all going well with the bf. It can be punishing when it's constant can't it!
Shazz- sorry about the potential infection. I loved your sling pic on fb
Ceeara and Buzz- nearly there! Talking of which- Noks- WTF?!
Chocco- I can't tell you not to worry because you just will, so I would just say to accept that you will and go with it if that makes sense?
Loving the images of Fairy and Onion tucked up in bed with their little princesses. I love dozing with mini HY. I look down at her little face and want to eat it I love it so much.
I must have forgotten loads of ppl but am posting on my iPhone while I have 5 mins to myself. Happy new year to all of you Grin

Well, he was an older gentleman who had had a few glasses of bubbly but still! He did seek out my DH later on to say he had made a faux pas and was terribly sorry, bless him. But it rather strengthens my NY resolution!

Oh fairy Angry I still look preggers and have thought about wearing my baby on board badge to get a seat on the bus Wink

mrshy am jealous of exploda boobs!

Hope ringlett is better onion and you get some sleep.

Ginster spent yesterday evening clamped to the boob too, but paused around midnight and we watched the fireworks on tv with DH. It felt like a very special moment. And she only had 60ml of formula in 24 hours, the rest was boob, wohoo!

I'm winding myself up about my lochia at the mo. It had basically finished by day 10 and then started up heavier and darker (dark purple colour, sorry if tmi!) a few days later and has been going ever since. Am sure it's normal but am fretting about retained products.. I wonder if it's to do with the bfing.

Report
keepitgoing · 01/01/2014 21:21

ooh gin! well done, that's almost no formula!! well done you for persevering. brilliant! I'm not sure about the lochia. one Nct friend had almost finished then passed huge orange-sized clots and turned out it was an infection. maybe yours has got heavier again as you've been doing more? I would maybe call the ward to ask, even though it's prob normal. bf is meant yo make stuff come out quicker so it could be as you say from upping bf. kudos on staying up till midnight

Report
fairypangolin · 01/01/2014 21:44

gin my MW said that as long as you don't have a fever or abdominal pain don't worry about lochia starting and stopping. Well done on the BFing!

The BOB badge must be tempting!

happy new year to you lovely ladypeeps. Your stories of your crib midgets being stuck to the boob brought a tear to my eye. I want to meet my one now ! Lazy little bugger.....Grin

It makes me feel better that it wasn't just B fussing. They must have all gotten on their baby monitors and agreed an appropriate course of action for these silly parents, thinking they were going to have a good time, with adults (pah!) and wine. How very dare they.

It always feels like it is just YOUR baby that is causing the fuss, whereas actually, thinking about it, the 2.5yo kept coming down from his bedroom, didn't want to go to sleep. Another one of my guests did an 'expat' and was attached to her 11m old at midnight. (One of the other guests, a dad, asked when he found out this 11mo has teeth 'how does THAT work!?'. I almost piped up with 'well you don't use your teeth to suck do you? ... ') The 11m old then woke up at 5 and cried, apparently, it didn't wake me up, and she was in the room next to us. So overall I should really relax a bit more. It's just infuriating, she was knackered last night and I couldn't even keep her awake for bath.

fairy he must have felt well embarrassed! I am starting today with no more chocolate and shortbread!! I have gained weight again over christmas! gin you've only just given birth! It's pretty normal to keep on looking preggo for a bit. Good going on the formula, you'll get there!

I am hoping things are looking up at the crisps household...

Hello,

Didn't have time to read the whole thread but I will later. I finally got my BFP after 3 years of trying and my first IVF on New Year's Eve. So assume I am 4 weeks gone in the traditional lingo. Am going to the doctor today and being referred to the midwife, am absolutely over the moon! I genuinely thought it would never happen.

Congratulations to all of you!

Congratulations Vos. What a great start to the Year!

I too am thinking of the Crisps clan.

My lochia stopped and started. Did it resume after activity Gin? Maybe it's a sign you should take things easy for a while. Congrats on the boob action!

Dildals · 02/01/2014 20:04

Welcome Vos and congrats! If i do say so myself we're a lovely bunch here so you've come to the right place. Most of us have popped now though, however we can still hand hold those who haven't!
Good work Gin- conversely I've spent most of the day googling how to phase out bf-ing as I'm getting pretty desperate for minihy to go longer between feeds at night and improve her daytime napping, and wonder whether more formula feeds will achieve that- but the jury seems to be out on that one. I think I just have to suck it up and wait and see if things improve as she gets a bit older. I am speaking with a maternity nurse/ night nanny this weekend who was recommended by a friend- know it sounds hugely self indulgent but I'm after all the help I can get!
Re lochia, mine has mainly gone but I'm just getting brownish spotting now (sorry!). I guess just keep an eye on it gin?
Love to all x

Congratulations and welcome vos. Do join us. It would be great to hear your story.

choco I have no tips for bearing the anxiety of waiting for early scans etc apart from to say that keeping busy does help, and the time will pass, albeit slowly. I had no tolerance for waiting, and paid for early scan at 7 weeks, by which time they can see all they need to to determine if the pregnancy is viable. I guess that is an option if you wanted it/can afford it. The constant nausea is a great sign. X

How are you doing nokkie? Sweep scheduled for Monday? Plenty of time to walk lots, have sex, eat plenty chillies etc. Hope you are comfortable..

Have you managed to start mat leave yet ceara and buzzy?

No news from me. Results from listeriosis test not back yet. But will check again today.

Love to crisps and hoping Nancy is getting better.

hello vos and congratulations! What a wonderful thing to have happen on NYE, I hope you celebrated. We have all been through it so feel free to vent any worries, anxiety etc with us. I have found this thread (and the previous 'egg buddies' one that I was on during IVF) to be such an enormous source of support over the last year, it really is amazing.

mrs I have read that it is a myth that formula feeding increases time between feeds but anecdotally I have heard the opposite many times. I totally understand the feeling of desperation, although unless you are incredibly unlucky minihy will settle down eventually. If Pangolina had not been sleeping well I would totally go for a night nurse if I had the funds.

Thinking of you and Nancy too, crisps. Thanks

Beautiful day here, no sign of the 'exceptional weather' they are getting on the coast.

mrsHY I was incredibly excited to try some formula on Bella a while ago, for the same reason you mention, I was desperate for her to start doing longer stretches. Unfortunately this little mini Blofeld had different plans. She will take between 90-120mls of expressed breastmilk but will only eat 60ml of formula. I guess she simply full after 60mls. And then proceeded to sleep the exact amount of time ... What stretches of sleeps does miniHY do? I am happy to report that mini Blofeld here has started to do longer stretches. She fed at 22.30 last night and woke up at 5.30 this morning. I am happy with that!

We went to get weighed yesterday. Well. Her, not me. I weighed myself as well, but that's another story. Unlike her mum she has now dropped from the 9th to the 2nd percentile. And I know I shouldn't worry. She is happy after feeds, generally a contented baby, etc etc, graphs are just a statistical distribution bla bla. But weight and feeding your baby are such emotive issues that I can't help but thinking about how to fatten her up. I need to measure her length as well, if she's high percentile height wise then perhaps she will just be long n lean.

I don't understand how formula could extend the time because their tummies are only a certain size to last a certain time. V garbled but hope you understand what I mean. Perhaps it's to do with that you can see exactly what they've drunk.

Report
Dildals · 03/01/2014 14:32

Theoretically their tummies can hold the same amount of mls. Formula doesn't digest as easily as BM so it keeps their tummies full for longer, it is also slightly more calorific.

Report
OnionRing · 03/01/2014 20:19

Yes what dildals said about digestion and also what fairy said about studies showing they don't sleep longer. Annoyingly.

Ringlet never takes more than120mls per bottle and still takes most of her milk at night. She had bottles at 7pm, 10pm, 2am and 6am last night. So frustrating! She's nearly nine months old!

mrshy I would so hire anyone to help if funds permitted. I think I need a mash up of Mary Poppins, Supernanny, Gina Ford and the Child Catcher out of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

gin I'm well impressed on your feeding, I hope it gets easier. My lochia went on for ages and was all colours of red to brown and back to red again. It did settle eventually though.

noks ANY NEWS?!

shazza how are you doing? How is your scar?

Hello to everyone else and welcome and congratulations to vos

I'm still at my parents, it's hard work without DH but lots of lovely cooking not done by me. I'm going back to a leaking roof though which is infuriating as it's the same place that leaked last time. This is what I get for living halfway up a windy fell.

Hello, sorry- only just caught up with this, unlike the Facebook page. Cheers for sharing formula thoughts people- like with everything baby related, it does divide opinion as to whether it works or not!! Dildals- I would be delighted with Blofeld's stretches- so far in her short life mini HY has prob done 2-3 3hr stretches and on one, beautiful night (a formula night actually) 4 hrs! Today she has been an absolute superstar with two good naps and nicely spaced daytime feeds, so hopefully she'll get the memo soon about pulling it out of the bag at night Grin. Onion your feeding pattern sounds tough but strangely desirable to me at this stage Grin. X

Report
OnionRing · 04/01/2014 01:38

It's a fine pattern were she six months younger. I'm going to start a thread on what I try next with her. She's nine months old, still feeding like a new born and won't sleep in a cot! Hope you're having a good night though...
