Open to all elderberry grads and anyone who fits the berry criteria: over 30, first trimester(ish) with #1 after trying for a long time, and nervous as hell. Come on in for handholding and nub theory!

Blind have you been booked? My appointment letters were really clear, explaining when it was with the midwife and when it was with the sonographer. The instructions were different for each app (pee sample for the midwife, drink water before the scan).
Maybe in your area they combine the two?

Thundercatsarego · 19/10/2013 10:22

kitty 2 hours sounds like booking in to me, but like merk says it should specify if it's also the scan- because you have to actively opt to have a scan- I did this during booking in. Worth a phonecall if the letter isn't clear.

BlindKitty · 19/10/2013 10:34

Grr very annoying!!! Why don't they just state what will/may happen at the appointment?! If the mw is doing all my prenatal history on tues then I'm assuming it is for a scan but would be nice if it was clearer! Will call Monday

Foodylicious · 19/10/2013 12:23

kitty where I am we have a booking in appt at 8 wks for about an hour, then the 11-13 week apt for scan and appt with dr(I think its a dr or mw), anyway I remember the MW saying its a long appt in 2 places so this must be what you are having. Can you ring the number on the letter? there might be someone around on a Saturday.
am poorly and having the day in bed - oh is great has been to the shop and bought and cooked me a freezer pizza which I have just had in bed. So including breakfast that is my entire calorie intake used up for the day, oops! I am such a good eater at the moment!
achey, headachey and generally stil cold and cough bluuugghhh, have a few sore ribs from all the coughing. So in bed I will stay.
Sorry for not commenting more on other people - I have read your posts but can't concentrate very well Sad.
has taken ages to write this!

Got my scan appt through today! ! its aaaaages away! Ill be 12+4

kitty have you got your official maternity notes yet? I had a 40min appt with midwife and got given the folder, (booking apt) was mainly form filling. on the scan letter it clearly says its for the scan.

I hav another midwife apt at the start of Nov, I have to take a wee sample!

BlindKitty · 19/10/2013 13:46

Well I have my booking appointment at home on Tuesday. Although the letter I've received says antenatal booking appointment at the top! Tried to call but closed on a sat so will have to wait until Monday. No one has mentioned any urine samples or scans.

MotherOfCleo · 19/10/2013 14:06

Ladies I'm afraid there comes a time that you can't go to any appointment without a wee sample. One of the stranger sides of pregnancy seem to be wandering around with a vile of pee in your bag. Confused

Brodicea · 19/10/2013 15:37

puppy - exciting to have the appointment!
foody - I have a horrible cough too following a nasty cold. Your pizza sounds like a most excellent cure Envy !

Berries - I too am a little perplexed about my appointments and what's happening etc.
I've had:
booking in appointment
blood test for infections (HIV etc) - had to go to phlebotomy at the hospital as the MW couldn't find a vein.

On Monday I've got the dating (12 week) scan (!), but I've opted for combined screening for Downs. Do I need to have a blood test immediately after the scan? No-one has explicitly told me this.... and my scan letter doesn't mention it. My next midwife appointment is at 16 weeks which is too late.

Confused
Brodicea · 19/10/2013 15:40

When I went to phlebotomy the nurse tore out my Nuchal/Downs blood packet and shouted 'ELEVENTH FLOOR' at me until I explained that this was my booking in blood test and not the Nuchal one Angry but the scan is on a totally different floor... (might just be getting myself in a tizz because I'm nervous about the scan itself...)

BlindKitty · 19/10/2013 15:58

Guys, sorry to ask a dumb question but is the 12 week scan the nuchal fold scan? I got a booklet through the post that doesn't even mention the 12 week scan other than for downs testing and then goes strait to the anomaly scan!

Boomgoestheweasel · 19/10/2013 16:34

Brod, yes, you need a blood test at the same time as the scan. They should know this and direct you to phlebotomy, if not you need to tell them! And yay for the scan Grin

Yes kitty dating and nuchal are both done at he '12 week' scan x

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go Sad

MotherOfCleo · 19/10/2013 16:35

Hi ladies, as I remember I had a booking in appointment which lasted about an hour, had to take my pee in a pot for that one. That's when I was given my big white folder.
Then had my 12 week scan at the hospital, I went for the combined test too, I had the scan which lasted about 10/15 mins I think mainly because baby was bing awkward and wouldn't lay how they wanted once I came out of their I was sent for a blood test.
To be honest I just went where I was told by the nurse Blush

Brodicea · 19/10/2013 17:12

Thanks boom and mother! Getting all discombobulated by the enormity of Monday

Thundercatsarego · 19/10/2013 17:16

When I went for dating scan they took my blood at the same time. No pee needed for that one, but pee needed for all other antenatal appts.

MOC I think its a vial rather than vile although carrying the pee around can be pretty vile! Last time I forgot mine and had to text oh to bring it when he picked me up.

Pipersouth · 19/10/2013 17:20

Hi everyone (waves nervously) After stalking the Elderberry thread but not really posting much since thread 3 I finally got a BFP this morning after TTC since July 2012 using 3 different tests I had stored just in case!!

MotherOfCleo · 19/10/2013 17:45

CatsCantFlyFast · 19/10/2013 18:16

Angelina77 · 19/10/2013 18:28

Gz piper glad to see another early stages like me (4+2) :-)

Pipersouth · 19/10/2013 18:29

I'm relying on the wisdom aboard the berry copter especially as we are also in the middle of buying a new house! Smile

Thundercatsarego · 19/10/2013 18:44

Congrats piper!

Oh we have house buying experience on board too if you need help with that!

How are you feeling?

BlindKitty · 19/10/2013 18:54

piper ah well this is a one-stop shop so you've come to the right place Smile

Tallyra · 19/10/2013 21:01

welcome piper, congrats!

So, to carry on the confusion, now I'm 14w, what's next? do I need to make an appt for anything? I was way too sick to take any notice at my booking appt. I've been seeing a hosp consultant but no contact with mw since then.

CatsCantFlyFast · 19/10/2013 21:06

Tally you need to book a 16 week appointment with your midwife and a 20 week scan. And a flu jab at your doctor.
SO pleased to hear that you're starting to be able to raise your head and think about the future. Huge kudos to you for surviving this far.
