Hyperemesis Support

LucindaE · 04/09/2013 08:48

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

I too am having issues with the ondansetron and going to the loo.
Had two days with no sickness and its like a weight has been lifted.
Unfortunately I'm back over the loo today not sure what's changed it anything.
There's only one thing I fancy and that's a Greggs cheese pasty and I live miles away from a Greggs or an Iceland and don't have transport.
Going to sit and sulk Hmm

Does anyone notice if sickness is worse if they are doing loads and it settles a hit if you just lie still lol

Totesamazeballs · 06/09/2013 13:13

Good news MoG.

Yes, sickness gets worse for me just walking about. I am spending all day sat or lying down just to cope.

Sally- I would be feeling the same way too. Have you got anyone else who can help/ share with your sis? I hate asking favours from people but when you are so sick there doesn't seem to be an alternative.

My goodness, the thread is charging along!
Meerka I am sure RNJ is as happy as me to make you laugh.
I so feel for Everyone abut those ambitions- well, fast forward some months - you'll be doing all that.
RNJ Thanks for lovely post. Sorry to hear about Luke's reflux. So it was the deputy head who was so foul and wouldn't let you use the lift? I'm glad the car got it!
Choc I found sucking barley sugar (oddly enough, that is an old fashioned 'have you tried' rememdy for travel sickness - nice; but they were from an old fashioned sweet shop somehow left in Ealing, and I haven't seen them since.
Dilsa Sorry about puking despite Ondansetron. You know far more about meds than I, I do remember some people on here only found relief with Ondansetron, Cyclazine and some B6 combination...
FeekerrySo sorry, did you say 12 February? I can't find the post where you gave me the date, I'm being hopeless today.
Feekerry Sorry you didn't get the gender, but I am glad that you got reassurance. Excellent advice, I think sometimes that is the only thing when other methods fail, being as gentle as possible, of course, to avoid causing/ making piles worse...I am glad you went for it, anyway, you won't regret it in years to come, I am sure, and you just might have got away with it - a number of women on here had nasty puking and thought that they were getting it, but it never turned into the full blown thing, which was wonderful. My ignorance is limitless - what is 'fecal impaction' it sounds nasty.
Totes Your tip about linseed oil and sunflower seeds sounds interesting, I hadn't heard that one before.
Littlemachine Welcome. For sure this thread is moving along rapidly!
SallyBathroom? ! Oh, no, the worst possible time. Can it be deferred?
Whoever thinks you are 'being lazy' is being infuriatingly judgemental. Sorry you seem to have had a relapse, I am hoping for some good days for you soon. How is back pain?
Jen Sorry about puke, but I am glad it was at the right time. I hope some of the water went through?
MOGGlad about results.
Sorry to anyone rudely overlooked.

Oh, and Bunny and Totes A lot of people say that - that lying still is the only way of controlling it when it's really bad. It's awful as people who don't understand assume women are being lazy lying still...

Did I say linseed oil? I meant linseeds..bloody brain. Sainsburys sell this packet of finely ground linseeds and sunflower seeds and its great for adding liberally to salads, cereal etc. Bit of roughage.

I feel like I must look so lazy to the outside but what can you do?

New tip inspired by Lucindas barley sugar...Wethers Originals! Normally I don't like them but they are great for removing that gross taste in the mouth and a good sensory distraction from nausea. My teeth are going to hate me.

Heck, sally, i hope you can get some help from somewhere. that's an unfortunate set of circumstances.

and YES sally and champagne it is beyond words when people think you're being lazy / that you can manage. it's not made up (who the hell would make up HG ?! ) and it's not some minor sickness and the two things you need are the support to handle other responsibilities and for people to take you seriously ! I'm afraid to go back to my doctor now becuase he just .. does ... not. I tried to plan what happens if i get so sick again, which meds to try when, and he just said "dont you think you're worrying too much?" NO IM FUCKING NOT. excuse my language. Husband doesnt' really understand either, though he's trying. Thank god for my mother in law, who does.

Sorry for rant. I guess you guys know how it is ...

nunny and totes yes. have to do the same. can do almost nothing. Cleaning the loo was the only thing I could do today. Couldnt even get son from school, had to ask neighbour. All you can do is either sit around or lie around, preferably lie.

Meerka, can totally understand not picking your son up from school. I havent been out of the house for several days now. How do you cope with dinner?

Champagne - I am impressed you are managing to work. It must be tough.

So far I have had help in that department but next week I am at home and although my parents have promised to take my toddler out to the swings and things during the day I am dreading all of the in-between bits....especially as he needs feeding every two hours....and a dream feed at night. He has the fastest metabolism I have ever come across! And he is too young to understand what is wrong with me or watch TV so there is no down- time.

I am moaning myrtle!

Report
Meerka · 06/09/2013 16:59

At least you'll have a happier ending that Myrtle did ! :)

how do I cope with dinner? well I havent got the full blown HG yet. Most of what I eat stays down. Turned into a highly picky eater (and it changes ever so fast, poor husband) but as long as don't force myself to eat something I don't want to and as long as take it very very easy and rest lots I'm only at the nausea stage. Lots of lying down in bed bored (can't read). Am only in week 6 and last time it hit like an express train in week 7, so if I can get to the end of week 8 then there'll be hope it only stays like this. Sadly some of the research in a link from this site indicated that if you have it once, you're like 68% likely to get it again.

Fingers crossed.

and oh, poor husband is cooking for himself, son and me. Also getting son up in mornings and taking him to school.

I'll make it up to him after it's all over!!!

Totesamazeballs · 06/09/2013 17:21

I am similar Meerka. This last week things seem to have settled down so I am only sick a few times a day, although I feel rotten 24/7 and i think the fact that i have been in bed all week has helped me keep stuff down. I was waaay worse by this time in my last pregnancy so that is positive.

I just can't bear the smells or sight of a lot of food so not quite sure how I will manage. Just opening the fridge makes me feel worse!

MurderOfGoths · 06/09/2013 17:45

Keep meaning to ask this, has anyone noticed that they end up with a really awful cough when the hyperemesis is bad? I had it all through the first pregnancy (stopped dead after giving birth) and it's back again but varies depending on how bad I'm doing. It's one of the ways DH is keeping track of how I'm doing now.

Totesamazeballs · 06/09/2013 17:53

Not exactly but I get a sore throat from the stomach acid so could it be related to that?

Just got my 12 week scan thru and I have to drink a pint and a half of water....couldn't do it last time, won't this time.

if we get that far (am 44 so the chances of something going wrong are not low), the baby's due date is 24th april. Which by chance is our son's birthday too. Good planning, eh?

Totes ... good luck with the scan!

MoG your kidney tests came back okay and you're not too dehydrated I hope?

lucinda thank you for all your lovely thoughts and care.

meerka The tentative due date for DC2 is 5 days after DS's birthday, am concerned they'll end up sharing a birthday.

feek Heheh, you'll manage, best trick is when changing him put a wet wipe over his willy to save you getting a shower Wink Oh and always point in down when putting the nappy on. Otherwise, it's pretty damn easy.

Showing trace ketones with the ketostix, but I think I'm managing it ok.

Haha, Fee love it!!

Lucinda I'm due 23rd

Totes, just thinking of opening the fridge makes me gag. It's certain smells and thoughts of smells that make Bad. Chicken is by far the worst though. I have to crave something before I can eat it usually. But most fruit is ok right now.
Dh has gone to get me a piece fish and mushy peas from the chippy as I am really craving salt and vinegar. Let's see how that goes

Yeah, the wet wipe over the willy saves a lot of washing of duvets / clothes / showers :D

Oh by the way, soon as he figures out it belongs to him, expect to have to persuade him not to play with it in all places and all times chuckle
