I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Aww Sally that's a lovely photo of you

Sally8655 · 08/09/2013 11:48

Ah thanks, obviously that was before I ballooned, became pale and spotty with greasy hair and all the other looks HG and pregnancy brought.

Anyone else finding that when they are hungry, they are suddenly ravenous and can't wait for an hour while something cooks or you tip over into vomming because your stomach is empty? I am finding that hard to manage at the mo. living off crackers because they are quick when what I really want right now is a casserole or homemade veggie soup.

Sally8655 · 08/09/2013 14:08

I know exactly what you mean totes, it happens to me all the time. i can no longer stomach crackers though. I've just had some nachos with melted cheddar cheese and salsa done in the microwave. It was quick and salty. Just what I needed when my stomach was empty and needed food quick. Not healthy at all but the salsa was refreshing.
Ive been asking my dad to make his famous scotch broth for ages now as its quick to heat up and really the only thing with veg I think I could maybe eat. I'm still waiting for it.
I can safely eat fruit but it doesn't last long in keeping the sickness at bay.

jenpatnim · 08/09/2013 14:46

Champagne, this is my first as well. The midwife at my last appt gave me a super quick scan and all was fine even though I don't look pregnant. I'm sure there is nothing to worry about.

Sandwiches are a good quick food!

Totesamazeballs · 08/09/2013 15:26

Can't stand bread! I seem to be eating so unhealthily when normally I am very veg focused! It's bizarre! I seem to remember it happening last time too, although I randomly developed a Greek salad fetish. And all I can drink is Nesquick...I would never touch the stuff under normal circs!

I am the same with fruit in the afternoon. It doesn't seem to fill the gap much but at least it's watery.

I managed to supervise digging up a few of our potatoes today! Def feeling better this afternoon than I have done for a while.

Lucinda - I feel like its unlucky to add my due date u til I get past my 12 week scan. Roll on 12 weeks...please God!

LucindaE · 08/09/2013 18:27

Totes I know just what you mean, I'd had an mmc and I was superstitious too, and then there came a test result back with a high risk of Downs, so it wasn't until week sixteen that I relaxed even slightly... Don't anyone who is anxious feel under any pressure to post their date!
The strange thing is, it's the unhealthy foods, the salty, sugary stuff and junk food that seems to stay down. I found, for instance, that the juice of tinned fruit made a nice drink. How unhealthy is that, but it's liquid? I think home made soup is wonderful when you are recovering from this a bit and can eat.
A lot say they have to eat at once, or puke. One person on this thread said she had to tear open some cakes in the supermarket, and shove them into her face, while people looked disgusted.

Choc Lol about shite!
Sally I love your photo too, a shame you couldn't get a second one on. Slinky Champage and Others It is fascinating the differences in measurements. I remember I did seem to have a big belly after about week twenty, but I don't know if it looked particularly so because of general weight loss elsewhere. Maybe it was extra fluid. I was wondering, Sally* I assume your belly button has popped out (I can't remember after years now when mine did or most people's does)? Is it rubbing against something in your clothing?
Jen Thank goodness for bowel relief.
Hope Everybody is doing OK.

I have been at that stage today Champagne. After initially losing weight I now find myself having to eat every few hours just to stop from puking! Ridiculous! People won't believe I was sick when I emerge from the house with a good layer of winter insulation! I will be so unfit too. I get out of breath just climbing the stairs.

Meerka · 08/09/2013 20:24

The only people who will believe how sick you can get is those who've been through it or seeing their wife/partner go through it. No one else can believe it :/

Feeling very alone after the doctor said that he didnt want to take the responsibility of prescribing ondansetron and quote "don't you think you're worrying too much?"

Not sure I can do this a second time. Even at this lesser level of nausea, 33 weeks is unendurable. If it becomes full blown ....

Husband badly wants me to go forward with it but I just don't know if I can.

LucindaE · 08/09/2013 20:37

Meerka Poor you, hugs, don't despair. Do try phoning 024 7638 2020, the Pregnancy Sickness Support group, and explaining that you feel you cannot go through with it because the GP is refusing to prescribe Ondansetron. They have helped people on this thread before to get medication, and quickly, as there are a team of sympathetic dr's and midwives involved. Also, for sure Caitlin Dean on Facebook's Hyperemesis group will help. Let us know how you get on.

Champagne Sorry about relapse...

ChocChaffinch · 08/09/2013 20:53

felt v nauseous today but am tired so think that Is why. And I'm scared to poo
am drinking as much water as I can.... and have taken max lactulose dose but bowels remain closed for the day.

am finding the best sweets are fruit sherbets from lidl Grin zappy little mothers they are

jenpatnim · 08/09/2013 22:54

Well the lactulose continues to work - I am taking 15ml a day and hoping it continues to work.

Am also obsessed with M&S Apple and Raspberry Juice - it is so refreshingly tangy and slightly tart I love it. I think I drank a whole carton today :)

OK so with the sickness vaguely under control, the lactulose on the case, move on to the next issue. Discharge.

I know there can be more than usual but I think I am going to have to start wearing pads or something because there is so much! My knickers can be soaked after a while and I am changing them throughout the day. Anyone else, or is this one just for me?

Sally8655 · 08/09/2013 23:48

Thanks lucinda, tomorrow ill change it to the belly pic, just for the day if anybody is interested.
My belly button is still in but looks rather stretched and sore. It's not bothering me though, just weird.

Jen I have had to wear panty liners since quite early on. I too suffer from this. I'm sure it's normal. I still change my knickers twice a day to feel fresh.

Not been to bad on the sickness front today, managed no meds and only puked once. Robinsons fruit shoot lollies are amazing, will be buying more of them. It's like a sorbet calippo.
Back pain is manageable now with my hot water bottle and resting in positions advised by doc.

Hugs to everybody xxx

MurderOfGoths · 09/09/2013 02:15

Another one who has to eat instantly if I feel hungry. Guaranteed to be very ill otherwise.

I cannot believe I'm awake right now, so tired but no matter what I do I cannot get comfortable. I seem to have a wonderful combination of constipation, indigestion and trapped wind. Plus my back and hips are aching. I am so fed up right now.

MurderOfGoths · 09/09/2013 03:03

Hmm can't tell if the nausea is worse because of the indigestion.. if I take gaviscon will it make me better or worse? Am I going to spend the rest of the night hugging the toilet?

jenpatnim · 09/09/2013 07:31

MOG I hope you got through the night ok.

I'm just getting ready for work (joy) and hoping that the cooler weather over the weekend translates to a cooler classroom.

Even though I am functioning much better, the nausea is still there much of the time.

MurderOfGoths · 09/09/2013 09:03

Didn't manage to sleep, feeling pretty awful now. Luckily I wasn't sick though.

ChocChaffinch · 09/09/2013 09:10

yep MOG wondering if my extreme constipation is adding to my nausea, hope to god ondansatron don't lose their power on me like every other drug

yes - pg is a time of urgency isn't it Grin if you're hungry you have to EAT NOW, if you need the loo you have to WEE NOW when you're tired it hits you like a rock and you have to SLEEP NOW!!!

ChocChaffinch · 09/09/2013 09:11

regardez la belly button -- I'm sure I had to wear a plaster on mine for a bit, or with certain maternity troosers
funny I just remembered that

ChocChaffinch · 09/09/2013 09:13

just ate a nectarine. and it was beautifully ripe and juicy. but it tasted soapy so I didn't appreciate it as I should've done.
hate you HG

LucindaE · 09/09/2013 09:59

Just dashing on to say Meerka hope you saw the number I recommended for quick help - this thread moves on so quickly you may not have and you sounded a bit desperate>
Everybody
Back soon. Oh dear, MOG That doesn't sound good..

choc Oh god, don't even mention ondansetron losing effect! Off to see my GP again this afternoon, doubt there's much she can do, but it's nice that she's keeping a close eye on me. I hate being pregnant so damn much. I spent much of last night wishing for a miscarriage, this isn't right :(
