Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Sally If you can, osteopath saved my sanity with my SPD.

So sorry to hear the suffering, hope you don't have it to the very end.

Luke is now 3 weeks and 6lb14oz. Unfortunately he has silent reflux, so not an easy time just now.

If I can offer any ondansetron based advice - glycerol suppositories on boots website, delivered... No hassle and the only thing that helped!

Lucinda You're amazing keeping everyone feeling like they have someone who gets it. Thank you again. And yes, my line manager's (a deputy head) car did get it... Haha!

Totes I Miss cereal. but even when I wasn't pg I noticed the milk made me feel weird, wonder if I am a bit allergic to cows milk.

A huge ice cold bowl of something crunchy and vitamin enriched, instead of dry toast

ChocChaffinch · 05/09/2013 13:34

and Ive been having dreams about cups of tea, gigantic cups.. and swimming in a crystal clear lake. water water everywhere and not a drop to drink. It's like being madly thirsty but a real struggle to drink water.

am sucking sherbert fruit sweets from Lidl. Gooood.

MurderOfGoths · 05/09/2013 16:14

"Thanks for the advice guys! I am just munching on some grapes now and they are surprisingly good. God I can't wait to be able to drink normally. I fantasise about standing in a waterfall of pure water, having it splash all around me and drinking it! "

Oh god yes! I told DH the other day I want someone to force ice cold water through all my veins/arteries/anywhere with a path through. Just flush all the nastiness out of me and then swim about in ice cold water.

Still waiting on the blood test results, they said to call at about 4pm, but still no sign.

Alright, things I can't wait to do

  • play a FPS without nausea
  • down a pint of water in one
  • eat a huge great fucking cheesecake
  • play with DS and make up for being a boring mummy
Totesamazeballs · 05/09/2013 16:35

So funny that we are all dreaming about water....the human mind has that element of predictability when denied a basic need.

Grapes NOT good!

Dilsa1 · 05/09/2013 17:37

Sorry disappeared as had super rough couple of days. Nausea and vomiting a lot despite the ondansetron last night. This morning wasnt much better. Feel really weak now and shattered! Boo hoo!

feekerry · 05/09/2013 17:39

hello all.
this thread is moving fast! haven't had a chance to catch up. with u on the dreams. i constantly dream about ice cold slush puppies..... hmmmmmm.
was at midwife yesterday. all well. baby heart beat was good. starting to feel some movement now but still nothing like first pg.
all was fine tho so maybe this is just a quieter child!! pleads on knees its quieter
anyway 'it' becomes a he or she late tomorrow afternoon as off for a gender scan late tomorrow.
still being sick here and there... really not great at nearly 18 weeks!!

Totesamazeballs · 05/09/2013 18:08

Sorry to hear that Dilsa! I feel like I had a small reprieve and then am back to being good for nothing today.

Exciting Fee! Do you have a DS or DD already?

LittleMachine · 05/09/2013 18:48

Found you all. Just about to read back and catch up.

feekerry · 05/09/2013 19:11

dd already totes
have made no secret i would like another dd but on the other hand as i am never never ever doing this again (would not put myself thru another hg pg) then there is a part of me that thinks maybe a ds would complete things...
we will see!

Totesamazeballs · 05/09/2013 19:24

I think I am having another boy which I think DS will have great fun with but there is also a part of me that wants a girl....but then I also want three kids....might change my mind about that though. I certainly can't imagine going through this again or going through it with two children to look after so three kids is a pipe dream. I am also not sure we could afford another anyway.

feekerry · 05/09/2013 20:09

i stupidly thought that i was only at a slight increased risk of getting hg second time round as each pg is different blah blah. i won't be falling for that a third time.
i couldn't/wouldnt put my body or mind thru another hg pregnancy.
and like you say doing it with one dc is hard enough already let alone with 2.

jenpatnim · 05/09/2013 20:39

Hey all! I dream about food and water as well.... we're all the same!

The doc gave me laculose, which I took today. No effects yet, although worryingly when I was in the bathroom yesterday and made any sort of attempt to go, there was blood spots from the rectum. It'll be 2 weeks tomorrow with no 'movement' and I feel achy, bunged up and bleh.

Work was like a sauna again - 29 deg in my room. I threw up at lunchtime, all the water I had drunk between break and lunch. That's the first vomiting in about a week too.

But in better news, I went to the hospital for the quad test - it is the blood screening for risk factors for spina biffida and down's. I mentioned to the midwife I was a bit worried that I am not showing (woman beside me in the waiting room was 1 day ahead of me with a perfect little bump) and she did a sneaky little scan! Just checked size and heartbeat - it is measuring 17+2, when I am 16+5, so it is growing, and the heartbeat is there! Feel so much better, I don't think I realised how worried I was.

I told my mum and she was disappointed I didn't find out the sex. Lol. It was less than 5 mins with the scanner, no pics or anything, just checking.

feekerry · 05/09/2013 20:55

Jen don't mean to be gross but i am a bit of a constipation expert now after so much ondansatron!
when you try to go do you have the feeling that its there but just not coming out? if so...... plastic glove, bit of vaseline and manual evacuation. i promise its not bad at all. i ended up with a fecal impactation after leaving it so long. and awful piles and lots if blood from trying for ages.
gross i know but don't leave it any longer!

ChocChaffinch · 05/09/2013 21:15

jenpatnim · 05/09/2013 21:46

Choc the pharmacist told me it was mild! Hope I get through work tomorrow!

And also I have not had an urge, was just trying for the sake of it.

Totesamazeballs · 05/09/2013 22:06

Oh my God...hot fudge cake with clotted cream!! That is what I am dreaming about tonight...along with more water!

Jen - sounds nasty, two weeks is a heck of a long time to go. Is it that you don't have the urge or get the urge but can't?

Constipation/ piles runs in my DHs family and I suffered from piles after labour. Lactulose was ok but took a few days to start working. Sunflower seeds and a linseed mix on any food you can tolerate can help push things through but perhaps only if mild.

Prune juice if you can stand it and cant you also take fybrogel alongside the lactulose? not sure about that but might be worth asking. Germaloids is good for piles if that is an after effect and they are ok in pregnancy.

Will be willing you to poo over the t'internet!

jenpatnim · 05/09/2013 22:10

No urge as such, no. Meh.

Totesamazeballs · 06/09/2013 11:27

Morning all! Lying in bed trying to keep some stuff down. Had quite violent vomming session earlier but fortunately PIL were out with DS at the swings so couldn't be overheard!

Dreamt about swimming and having a buffet last night. Finding it so hard to drop off at night because I feel so sick. Annoying!

How is everyone else? Did you get the results MOG?

How is your back Sally?

Bowels Jen?

Sally8655 · 06/09/2013 12:34

Totes- my back is still sore but bearable for now.

Just trying to battle through the nausea and voming again. Started losing weight again despite trying to eat more.

Feeling really emotional at the moment. Just seem to be hit with one problem after another right now. Also a great deal of ignorance and lack of support from people we expect more of. They pretty much think im faking my health issues and just lazy. Not to mention dh just found out he's back to Australia for 3 weeks on the 21st. Just don't know what I'm going to do. I can't expect sister to look after me for 3 weeks. Plus I have contractors coming to do my bathroom while he's away for 6 days, amongst a few other things happening at the end of the month which I now have to cope with on my own. I'm so upset.
Sorry to winge :-(
