Feel very nervous writing this. But I'm in my bold "sod the doctor" mood. Anyone joining me?

Eyelash? (after all, I consider it to be you who got me here in the first place )

Anyone else?

I told one of my best friends about my pg last night as I had finally made it to 12 weeks. I got a really odd reaction. No congratulations or anything. She doesn't want children and never has but I thought she might be pleased. My dh thinks it might be because I hadn't told her earlier (she asked me how long I'd known). I felt really upset by her reaction and it's really dragged me down. Any advice?

Thanks harman. We're telling my mil next week. I'm not looking forward to that either. I'm glad mine isn't the only awful mil around!

beansprout · 24/03/2004 10:54

Congratulations on your 12 weeks Piglit!! Totally agree with Harman on telling someone else who will be thrilled and balance out the other reaction for you. I have given myself a very hard time about telling dp's family (and we haven't told them yet) and so have just needed to accept that some people will be happy and others will not. It's no reflection on me, just how things are.

Harman, could it really be twins?! We need to get you that scan!!

Hope everyone else is ok too xxx

motherinferior · 24/03/2004 11:18

Piglit, some people can be very odd. I had a friend who didn't want kids whom I did tell quite early but who got really iffy with me as my pregnancy progressed and eventually I just dropped. I am so sorry about your friend. Congratulations from me, anyway.

piglit · 24/03/2004 11:20

Thanks motherinferior. You are one of the first people to say that to me.

How is everybody.

Harman - glad you are back but sorry you are having a rough time. Is there any way you can get a bit of a break from it all - like go on retreat or something? I am not joking - maybe if you went off for a few days everybody would realise how much they missed you!

Beansprout and piglet - enjoy telling people and yes you will get some odd reactions and comments but also plenty of really positive ones as well.

Toots/Turtle35/Harman - I am 13 weeks tomorrow and have just bought a pair of stretchy maternity trousers from next. Only £15 and I think these will be one of my staples. They feel nice on and I feel very slim although I am far from it. Highly recommended!

I wonder if it is worth a new thread as this one is getting very long and starting it with a recky of those of us on here. What do you think?

I think it's a good idea to start a new thread also. Well it finally happened, sorry to go into grim detail but my constipation was so bad that I now have......yep you guessed it hemorrhoids! bloody awful things, have had before after an op but this is really alarming when a lot of blood appears and it took a second to realise where it was coming from. I have tried doing everything to avoid constipation but it's impossible. Have decided enough is enough and am going to see GP tomorrow, will report back with any useful
information but am not holding my breath.

Both my mil and fil didn't sound very happy for us when we told them the good news, you'd think for the first grandchild they would be jumping for joy - my mother and sister both burst into tears of joy when I told them, in-laws can be wierd.

beansprout · 24/03/2004 20:37

Turtle 35 - you have my full sympathy, that's always a miserable one. Good luck at the docs with that.

Sorry about your in laws too. Now we are all getting to the telling people stage it seems that one thing for sure is that we are going to have a bunch of mixed reactions between us but I would have thought that grandparents to be would be reliably pleased - I mean, we are all old enough to be making this decision!

Dp's family is going to be difficult as the funeral for his sil's baby was only on Monday, but that is not people, that's circumstances, and very difficult ones at that.

Good luck to all of us and hey, you can always rely on us lot to be chuffed to bits for you

eyelash · 24/03/2004 21:45

Beansprout - the funeral must have been tough.

Turtle35 - I have had piles but only in the last few months. Poor you to get them so soon. Any tips would be great.

Right - I will start the new thread now.

Thanks everyone for all your thoughts etc and all your advice especially bunny2. I am okay apart from this week someone at work told everyone that she is six weeks pregnant, I know she is excited but that didn't help. I am getting my bloods tested by the doctor who has been extremely supportive as she always is. I will keep in touch and let you all know how it's going.
Love to everyone Diddums
