Feel very nervous writing this. But I'm in my bold "sod the doctor" mood. Anyone joining me?

Eyelash? (after all, I consider it to be you who got me here in the first place )

Anyone else?

also thank for the reassurance on the cramps, I just wonder when they will go, it's hard to act normal at work when I feel like lying down under my desk in a fetal position!

Turtle35 · 10/03/2004 13:04

so sorry to hear about your sister in law, it's terrifying hearing news like that especially when hormones are running you raged! don't envy you at the moment, hang in there it will all be worth it in the end I am sure of it! I am also sure you will start to feel better soon.

beansprout · 10/03/2004 13:07

The cramps have got better, but slowly. They really started to improve at about 8 weeks, although I still have my moments. Best thing though is that you get used to them and they are not so scary. And to think - this is only the beginning!!!

What was the bad advice your 22 week friend got (if you don't mind me asking, I am just being nosey though, so no worries if you would rather not say).

Turtle35 · 10/03/2004 13:16

she was told not to worry about various aromatherapy oils and has been using something on her tummy (can't remember which one) for strech marks and I read in one of my books that it was one to stay away from. Also she has only seen her GP once and has had two scans - that's it, she doesn't have a mid wife, she is going to Kingston Hospital where they don't hook you up with a mid wife. Up until 20 weeks she only had one scan and one appointment with her GP. There was some other stuff to but being in a pregnant state of mind, I can't seem to remember much these days! going to go have some lunch now

piglit · 10/03/2004 16:21

I had a scan this morning (because of my bleeding at the weekend). All fine - baby was wriggling around like mad and the hospital agree with my dates - 7 October. Huge huge relief. I'd say to anyone with any concerns - get an early scan if you can. I can't explain what a relief it is to see this little thing on the screen. :0

beansprout · 10/03/2004 16:30

Piglit - that's so great, I'm really relieved for you, you must have been so worried. Can't wait to see my little one myself, it must be very, very exciting!! Will now have celebratory chocolate biscuit!!

Turtle35 - that's worrying to hear. I found a document yesterday on the rcog website that basically lists all the advice doctors should give us... very enlightening.. and not even close to the experience I have had so far. At this stage it feels like we are on our own a bit anyway, but I am really uncertain about what care I should be expecting. Don't want to be too pessimistic... probably just symptomatic of the day I am having. Did manage to get through my work meeting without crying/killing anyone, so at least there's that.....

eyelash · 11/03/2004 06:28

Piglet - great news. You must be so relieved.

Diddums - how are you?

Am feeling rubbish too, just sick all day, tired and usually either irritable or down right sad! Apart from that - fine!!

So relieved to hear you talk of bumps - can I have a bump yet (10 weeks tomorrow) or am I, as I just thought, turning into a moose? This is my first, so I have no idea!!

Hope everyone who feels sick or fed up starts to feel better soon xx

If I had a left over test, I would definitely have used it by now!! I just want this scan and to know if things are ok. My sister in law lost her baby last week and I just feel very wobbly at the moment.

Think I will try the size up approach with the clothes first and see how much weight I put on - oh for just having a cute bump, but I don't think that is going to happen!

Turtle35 · 11/03/2004 11:49

Morning all, I think the morning sickness is starting to kick in for me, I feel slightly nauseous today for the first time, not sure what to do, the thought of drinking water is makeing me want to run to the toilet. I feel huge and am only 7 weeks - all my trousers are getting tight and boob size has gone up another cup! A good friend of mine is 17 weeks and is barely showing but was one those types who had a dead flight stomach to begin with! Lucky thing, I can recall ever having a flat stomach! I feel like a look about 5 months already! Dreading going back to work next week, I have been on holiday for the last two weeks entertaining family from Canada and to be honest am exhausted, they are leaveing today and I will sleep for three days solid I am sure. Hope everyone is feeling ok? any good advice for morning sickness?

Turtle35 · 11/03/2004 11:55

Have found a beautiful maternity shop around the corner from where I live, I was shocked to find a very average pair of jeans cost £65.00! Yikes this is gonna get expensive! Beansprout a friend of mine tried a size up and said it didn't really work but she had a designer bump!

motherinferior · 11/03/2004 12:00

Courage, my lovely friends. First trimester is truly vile but you WILL get through it and believe me will turn into heavily pregnant hippopotamuses in due course and look back enviously to the stage where you just looked as if you'd been overdoing the pies.

I certainly didn't believe I was pregnant till my first scan. Mind you, I was somewhat in denial till second stage labour

miffy2 · 11/03/2004 12:10

I am 8 weeks now and as on my previous PGs I have had v bad morning sickness (and afternoon, evening etc). It is pretty hard in work as I have a 2-minute walk to the Ladies, right thru' the middle of the department I work in. They must think I have a weak bladder!

As for the stomach, well, I would like to think I have a bump but to be honest it is the flab left over from #2 that I never got round to fully losing. (After this one I swear I will get fit and slim...)

The next 6-8 weeks are the toughest on the figure because you just feel fat and not pregnant. Hopefully by then I will have stopped throwing up too...

beansprout · 11/03/2004 12:21

Have had all day sickness for about four weeks now (since week 6). There is one moment in the day (lunchtime i.e. now) when I go from being as sick as a pig to Ms Hungry Hippo and HAVE to have a tuna sandwich. I then spend the rest of the day feeling sick at the thought of food (inc. what I ate for lunch) and wanting to crawl to bed.

Cold lemonade is nice though.

Spod · 11/03/2004 12:44

oh piglit i am pleased for you!! seeing the scan is great isnt it... so reassuring... ohhhhhhhhhh i'm all broody! and dd is only 4.5 months old!!

piglit · 11/03/2004 14:14

beansprout - I am exactly the same as you. I feel totally rubbish from about 10 in the morning (nausea, retching and heartburn) and then at about 1.30 I have to eat something. As soon as I've had my lunch I can't stand the thought or sight of food and feel rubbish all afternoon. Cold lemonade has been my saviour!

Does anyone else have an aversion to food smells? My sense of smell seems to have improved dramatically but I hate the smell of all food. A couple of people here at work have hot lunches at their desks (soups, pot noodles etc) and I have to close my office door or else I retch.

beansprout · 11/03/2004 14:25

Am averse to most smells athe moment. The thing that really makes me go at the moment is peppermint tea, which of course, people keep recommending. We have a box at home and every time I open the cupboard door and get that minty whaft..... eugh!! It may have to be banished...

I usually trust mother nature but at the moment she has me wanting to only eat crap food. Am usually good with my vegetables but at the moment, I'm like a child who just doesn't want to know!

piglit · 11/03/2004 14:33

I'm the same. I threw out almost everything from the fridge the other day - all on the basis that it was "stinking the place out". dh thinks I'm mad.

Turtle35 · 11/03/2004 14:46

Im with you also on the smell thing, I can't get over my sense of smell, however I was a smoker before I found out I was pregnant and I have been told that when you give up smoking you gain your sense of smell and taste back. My husband put worcester sauce on something the other night and I thought I was going to run to the toilet. Beansprout I think mint tea is over rated, I was expecting it to help with the bloating and full feeling I got every night but it didn't at all. I guess the bloating was more like uteris expanding and mint tea will certianly not help there!

beansprout · 11/03/2004 14:47

dp, on hearing that ginger is good for nausea, went out and did what is now known as "the ginger shop" - ginger biscuits, ginger tea, ginger beer, even soup with ginger in!! Bless that man. Needless to say, have had enough ginger for a while, but still have my ginger nut biscuit before getting out of bed in the mornings, which is the only thing that seems to help.

How many more weeks of this?!! I want to move onto a new complaint!!!

Turtle35 · 11/03/2004 14:47

by the way will try the cold Lemonaide - sounds soothing but am really craving a milkshake at the mo.

beansprout · 11/03/2004 14:49

Turtle35 - you have that bloated feeling too? I only need half a plate of food in the evening and I feel like most people do on Christmas afternoon - completely stuffed and overfed!! And only ten minutes before, my stomach was rumbling for Britain!

piglit · 11/03/2004 14:52

Ok - how's this for a new complaint...

Has anyone had to put up with people speculating about whether you are pg? At 10 weeks we are still keeping quiet but my dh overheard 2 people he works with discussing whether or not I'm pg. They both reckoned that I am because on each of the last 3 occasions that they've seen me I've been really pale and sick looking and when we all went out for a meal I only drank lemonade. So much for keeping it quiet until week 12..!
