Feel very nervous writing this. But I'm in my bold "sod the doctor" mood. Anyone joining me?

Eyelash? (after all, I consider it to be you who got me here in the first place )

Anyone else?

Beansprout - wonderful news!! You must be so relieved after such a terribly scary time. Did they confirm your dd? I am feeling worse and worse as time goes on. I am now 8 weeks and the morning sickness is just awful, thought I was going to have to get off the tube this morning on the way to work to throw up -

sweetkitty · 15/03/2004 19:00

So happy for you beansprout I was the same bright red blood at 9 weeks I feared the worst but had a scan and everything was OK, the next week I had some more bleeding and another scan and OK again. Until I came on here I never realised how common it was.

Toots · 15/03/2004 19:24

Yippeee! Beansprout, so pleased. Just rushed my mum on the phone as wanted to get on here to make sure you were OK. Marvellous.

Poor you Turtle. Have you tried seabands? They helped me, I'm sure of it. It's got to be worth a shot.

We had a party for about forty on Saturday afternoon/evening. Prep was exhausting, so I just spent the party swanning about telling people to 'help themselves' in a vague way (amazingly nothing stolen ) When someone broke a glass, I just said 'nobody panic, everybody stay calm' until dp came to see what I was going on about, and he cleared it up. Good laugh actually and I ate, and ate, and ate.

Talking of eating, today I ate my mum's mother's day chocolates. Then I was a bit sick.

motherinferior · 15/03/2004 20:17

Beansprout, I'm SO PLEASED. Been logging on all day to check (well, that's my excuse).

Puke in peace!

beansprout · 15/03/2004 21:19

A hearfelt thank you, you lovely people, am very touched by your messages. Am still a bit amazed - they put this thing on my stomach and an image of a baby appeared on the screen!!!! (It's my first, as you can tell!)

As for morning sickness, I have never found the business of having to eat food so difficult as in the last few weeks. I sit and look sick at anything poor dp makes, and then only want a bit of it. May it soon pass for all of us.....

motherinferior · 16/03/2004 08:22

I spent my first scan going 'oh my god. Something's IN THERE!' as this revoltingly phlegmatic woman ignored my excitement.

Am getting quite broody over this thread, I have to say

Just had my booking scan at the hospital. All fine - 11 weeks to the day. It's 42mm long and we saw the heart going boom boom boom. Phew. Time for a celebratory chocolate biscuit I think!

beansprout · 17/03/2004 10:21

Piglit - that's fantastic!! Will join you in biscuit celebration!
Think I am still recovering from the shock of seeing something in there though..!

Toots · 17/03/2004 10:56

Did someone say biscuits?

Hooray for you and your scan Piglit. I'm 11 weeks tomorrow. Does that make your due date the 7th then? Mine 8th.

Thanks Motherinferior. I've heard some fab VBAC stories, just need to be absolutely sure mine will be one of them

Feel some joys of spring seeping in today. Went, smiling to the hall mirror to see visible proof of my approval of this lovely sunshine, and was greeted by very old ghost like reflection. Won't do that again in a hurry.

piglit · 17/03/2004 11:00

Toots - Yes, I'm due on 7th Oct. Seems like a long time away!

I try not to look in the mirror at all these days. I am either a funny shade of grey, green or, at best, ghostly white. Two of my friends have guessed I'm pg because I look so peaky!!

piglit · 18/03/2004 12:37

Is anyone else having a nuchal fold scan? I know that there are a few of us "older" mums on this thread so I'd be curious to know if anyone else is having one.

beansprout · 18/03/2004 13:12

I understand from my GP that the hospital that I am under will do this as part of the first scan, but I could have that wrong. I suppose that if they are looking anyway, I would want to know whatever they can tell me, but am not sure about any of the other tests. They haven't been mentioned yet.

I will be 35 in November, so just miss that "over 35" category where all the tests are more strongly suggested.

Will be 11 weeks tomorrow - is anyone else bursting to tell people or are you all "keeping mum" (sorry!)

motherinferior · 18/03/2004 13:23

Your Sproutliness, I think if you're having a scan they'd check, wouldn't they?

Even though I am so very very very very ancient nobody offered me anything but a nuchal, btw.

piglit · 18/03/2004 14:12

The nuchal scan is done in a different part of my hospital and I had understood it was different to the booking scan (which I had on Wednesday). All very confusing. I made the mistake of reading about the different tests and what they look for and I'm now totally confused (and anxious of course...).

Beansprout - I'm only a day ahead of you and I have been bursting to tell some people. However, I just think if I can hold on until after the nuchal test (I'll be 12 weeks + 2) then it'll be better.

beansprout · 18/03/2004 14:22

Piglit - when do you need to make decisions about tests? Didn't they go through all of this at your booking appt? I would have thought we need time to think about all of this, but the medics don't seem to be mentioning it.

I am SO tired today, am at work and can hardly stay awake, let alone do any actual work (seem to have the energy for MN though!)

piglit · 18/03/2004 14:30

My midwife was completely laid back about all the tests. I asked her about nuchal fold (on the basis that there is no risk of m/c unlike CVS) and she got me an appointmnet just like that. She also talked about triple tests but I think she said I shouldn't have the triple test if I'd had the nuchal fold. Perhaps I'm being dim but I found it all very confusing. I suppose we just have to take things one step at a time and hope for the best.

I have been exhausted this week too. Somehow I've managed to get things done but today is a disaster. I can't wait to go home!

Turtle35 · 18/03/2004 18:35

Hi all

just got home myself and it took everything I have not to fall asleep at work today. I actually went home yesterday at 10.00 am after throwing up three times from 7 - 9.30 it was scary! I was so tired all I wanted to do is sit in the toilet and weep, my dh is away this week which isn't much help cause I am not sleeping either. I decided to tell my boss this morning even though I am only 9 weeks I thought he should know why I went home insted of using lame excuse of food poisoning!

I am having the nuchal fold scan at 12 weeks, this will give you the odds of down syndrom, if the odds seem high then I gather you are given the option of having further tests which I understand from all of my friends who have done it, it was worth it, the odds were much better after having the second test. However, the percentage is 1% of m/c it's up to the individual. I couldn't abort what ever the odds but I think it can be reassuring for some woman. It's a tough one. By the way biscuits do seem to help but I have now put on SIX pounds!! I am terrified of getting huge, has anyone else put on much weight at 9 weeks?

eyelash · 19/03/2004 11:17

Haven't had a chance to read all the way down but hope everybody is well.

Piglet - we have had the nuchal fold scan debate - scroll further down where I have gone into more detail. Yes - all the various tests are confusing but it is very much a personal choice. You need to weigh up the pros and cons for you and your partner.

Well had booking in on Tuesday. Lots of confusion and tears as they refused to scan me as I had had a scan the previous week. I was gutted. The miscarriage nurse popped in to see me and wheeled in this very old machine where we couldn't actually see anything but the heart beat. But she brought me in this morning for a proper scan which was great. Baby had legs crossed so we couldn't see the sex. Best of all lots of movement, etc. My date has also changed to the 30 September but will stay on this thread as boys were 11 and 14 days late respectively. Am also officially booked in for a homebirth if baby decides to arrive before the 9 October deadline.

Sorry for rattling on.

Turtle35 · 19/03/2004 12:50

Eyelash
congrats on the dd. you must be relieved, how nice for it to be early! shame the hospital messed you around on the scan, I would of lost it! You never know you might be on time for this one. Do you want to know the sex? I am not sure if I do. off to eat a big lunch am starving as always.

eyelash · 19/03/2004 19:04

I would love to know the sex as I felt I bonded better with ds2 when I knew.

Hope you all have a nice weekend.

Toots · 20/03/2004 16:47

Turtle. Me too hungry - yummy, yummy. DP has suggested chinese tonight, bring on the pork balls. I know I will have to be the one who goes and orders it because I will find it such fun. I'm so excited by food, when I see what I want, I HAVE to have it (V8, yoghurt, smoked mackerel, mars bar, bacon crisps). I'm like a baby, if I don't eat every three hours I cry. Just had oat cakes with philly and toms, lishous. Try not to worry too much about weight gain. This are hungry times.

Toots · 21/03/2004 10:55

Btw, I've put on between 1 and 4 pounds depending where abouts in the bathroom I put the scales.

Turtle35 · 21/03/2004 16:16

How funny we had chinese food last night also. It was very good!! My scales this morning say I have gained ANOTHER 2 pounds, I have now gained 7lbs in 9 weeks, must cut down on the junk food. Feeling very hormonal this weekend, has anyone else been crying for no reason?

eyelash · 21/03/2004 19:25

And we had indian. I weighed myself this week and have gained 2 lbs but am a stone overweight so will start walking tomorrow to try to keep off weight. Also have massive sweet tooth and craving protein - I think that means a boy! I suppose we will have to wqait and see.
