She had some red marks on her cheeks for about a day and a half and they're gone now. I also had the pediatrician at the hospital check her head and he said it's nicely shaped and no damage from forceps :)

I took your advice btw and had an epidural. I was initially ok after they started the drip and coped for 6 hrs on gas and air but then they broke my waters and contractions got so intense that I thought I'd murder someone. Decided it's not a contest of who can last longer without pain relief and got epidural. My god, this stuff is amazing!!! I wanted to kiss the doctor :)

I know what you mean about wanting to kiss doctor - while still on G&A waiting for the epidural to kick in I actually told him I wanted to kiss him (bad enough) he politely declined and left hurriedly.

Thank you ladies. I still can't believe she's finally here. Feels like a dream. I was in labour from the Wednesday when I told you all. Got to triage at 4pm. I was 2cm dilated and I'm unbearable pain so they let me stay and put me on gas and air. By 6pm I was almost 5 cm dilated. Managed to get to just over 9cm on gas and air...but then they realised baby was in an awkward position and no way I could push her out and get to 10cm as she was in way of part of cervix. At this point my heart rate dropped from all the pain and so did hers so they put me on epidural and sped up the contractions through an injection. Then they said had to get her out through vontouse as heart rate was bad and if that didn't work would be emergency csection. Luckily they got her out and I didn't have a cs but had episiotomy.

Ended up being monitored, put on IVs, had a catheter stuck in and lost a lot of blood but am ok, home and recovering now. Baby is doing great! Cannot believe she survived it all!

Reebok congrats!!!! It's amazing that you got to 9cms on gas and air!
It's funny how our labours were similar - I can definitely relate - also had episiotomy, was on IV for fluids, had antibiotic because of an infection, catheter - eh, felt so helpless lying there in bed but I'm glad I'm home now as I feel so much better!

So fed up! Sick of people saying 'it could be anyday now'. It's obv not going to be .... Stop/start contractions for weeks and still nothing.

Stuck hiding up in bedroom all day, as DP has DSD(10) this week and it didn't occur to him that I might want some privacy at 40 weeks pregnant

Feel so helpless. Just want this baby to be born already, but there's nothing I can do about it.

they are 12, 10, 8.5, 6.5, 3 and 15 months.
5 boys and baby girl.

DS1 was barely 3.5 when DS3 was born - it was steep, but mainly because DS3 had tongue tie which was undetected till he was 8 months old!
I struggled so much with BF him and he was still loosing weight. I had to mix feed from 3 months and gave up BF at 5 months.

DS5 & DD also had it but theirs was found out at 3 weeks, they both had TT released within days. I actually bf DD until she was 1year old.
[I think there was more to that than just nourishing her, I'm pretty sure I was compensating for lost times with the boys. ]

isitme1 port wine stains may fade if they are on areas where the skin grows thicker or stretches considerably as they grow, but it is a skin condition that won't go away, sorry.
A friend's daughter had a version of it where the skin has little red blobs in a cluster (like raspberry) and it was quite large at birth but now has shrunk.

there might be surgical options to reduce it, but I don't know.
is it a large area and/or visible all the time? Are you upset by it?

Congrats to marushka and to reebok! Wonderful you have your wee ones with you and a hearty well done for making it through what sound like quite difficult labours!

I'm launching into my third night of what I guess is pre-labour, after a full day of contractions no more than thirty minutes apart. Contractions are now excruciating and I'm worried they aren't even proper contractions.

The timing is variable and they don't start out bearable, peak, then recede like I've heard others describe - I don't know when they're coming and they don't feel particularly wavelike. It's more a very rapid ramp up from 'oh is that another one?' to 'AAAGH!' in a few seconds, then a full minute of pain before it fades away.

And I'm getting clusters of them - say I'm having them regularly every 15 minutes for a few hours, every one of three will have a series of two or three 'aftershocks' which follow every few minutes.

Combined with the growing exhaustion, the lack of any kind of rhythm and the thought that this may not be remotely related to proper labour is enought to be really profoundly discouraging. And keep thinking that if I'm struggling so badly with this, how will I ever cope with the real thing?

Anyone have a similar experience or any wise words to share?

Well done reebok, what a trooper. Sounds like you did a fab job, congrats again.

I updated on the other thread; DD was born on Thursday at 5pm. Quick labour, contractions started around 8am. Went in at 1pm and was 4cm. Went for a walk for an hour, came back onto ward and contractions came every 1-2min. Waters broke at 445 and had DD at 455pm with a bit of gas and air. 8lbs 11.5!

Zing it doesn't upset me as to me hes still my perfect little prince but I know its a cruel world out there and that does upset me .
Today a close relative sounded so disgusted when she asked what it was. Felt like slapping the bitch.
Its on the back of his head and with his hair on its not too visible but as per tradition we shave our children's first hair and now hes hairless its 100% visible across the back of his head.

Hello, to update you all, after saying it wasn't going to happen today I had my first contraction at 9.30 am, they very quickly went to every 5 mins.

Managed to get dd's party set up and started at 12.30pm (picnic at local park area), stayed for an hour then left gps to take over.

Got to labour ward at 2pm and ds born at 5pm. Was so much quicker than with dd I couldn't believe it. We're back at home already.

So none of you lose heart, I was convinced last night that I'd be about 2 weeks overdue and now tonight I'm at home with a new baby.

I'll read the thread tomorrow and find out what's been going on today. Want to stay with the rest of you now and find out what happens.

Dd's birthday tomorrow so they've just missed sharing!

I've been lurking on this thread (am active on August ante-natal thread) as at 36+3 I'm not quite 'due any day', however after a sleepless night due to backacke, period cramps and lots of braxton hicks I'm secretly hopeful that my body is at least in warm up mode.

First pg... please tell me this can't/won't last 6 weeks and I'm still going to go overdue!

I'd say they are still practice contractions (Braxton Hicks) but frequency suggests they could turn into proper ones soon, hopefully.

the actual contractions serve the purpose of dilating the cervix, so you should feel pain in the same location as period pains - but stronger.

good breathing through helps, this is what you do: as the pain comes take big breath and slowly exhale as if you were trying to blow out 100 candles in a row. keep doing that until the pain is gone

(warning: it might make you a bit lightheaded/dizzy so hold onto something so you won't fall!)

can you request a sweep today?
if yes, DTD as soon afterwards as possible - both will help with dilating process.

pain relief: see how you do. when in labour the adrenaline does help cut out some pain but there's gas&air, pethidine etc and the king epidural of course(all hail! )

BH actually happen all the way through pg, but are not noticable until last few weeks with 1st pg.

(in comparison with my 6th baby I noticed them from 5 months! although they were painless then, in the last few weeks they were really strong, and some would stop me in my tracks and take my breath away!)

hopefully they will turn into proper contracions in the next week or so - but there's just no way of knowing, sorry!

Thanks zing, I have noticed a few here and there since about 30 weeks but only if i was sitting quietly. Now they are very noticeable and seem to be coupled with baby punching/headbutting my cervix, which is lovely haha.

I am trying to mentally prepare myself for a good few weeks of this, as like you say you just can't tell... I just hope not every night is as restless as last night or I'll be pooped in labour!

Do you think it's worth taking some paracetamol at bedtime tonight, see if that helps?

gerty I would. paracetamol takes the edge off the pain.

some people worry that taking it would mask labour pain - all I can say is I wish! if it did there would be no need for anything stronger!

so just take two after your dinner, you should be ok.
if you go into labour you'll know!

Gerty I've been in latent labour for over a week now, so yes it's very possible that your discomfort could go on for a while! I was really frustrated because it's tiring being kept up with painful contractions, but now I'm more relaxed about it and just keep thinking, every contraction does something
