Today I have combatted high bgs with a low carb lunch of pasta and chocolate. Um...Blush

Oops bona!
I sat in the park and ate sandwiches and drank juice, injected 3u, but still ended up at 3.4 afterwards! It was the heat and my crazy lunch ratios.
Going to a wedding this weekend - wraparound dress spotty - so am expecting ridiculous bgs.

Hi just checking in with everyone.

Lol Bona!

Hopingfor, how are your night readings now? Do you need to hike up the night levemir??

I'm feeling a bit ranty. My hba1c for 3rd trimester (I'm 31 weeks) came back 6.2. My previous tri's were 5.8 and 5.6. I saw a "stand-in" diabetic consultant recently (ie not my regular) and he had a moan at me for a couple of 9 readings! Said "the targets are under 7 an hour after meals blah blah blah" as though he was reading from a text book like I was some kind of idiot that was just receiving this info for the first time! I waited over an hour to see him too. Waste of time and twice in the last week ive come out of he hospital in tears. Hope I don't see him again!

I'm Shock at how shit your consultants/doctors/nurses/mw etc are. I've never had a 'telling off' only ever encouragement and my readings have never been perfect.

Try not to worry, it sounds to me like you are doing great. Not long to go now!

Thanks spotty. My usual DSNs and consultant are usually wonderful. In fact my nurse will quite happily respond to an email on a weekend/late evening if I have a question. But this guy was awful and made me feel like crap!

ginger what a twat he sounds like! I was never actually encouraged to test post meal I did it off my own back. My night readings had been not bad for a good few days but last cpl nights have been crappy having to correct 11s at 4am then its ok by breakfast. I honestly cant remember the last time I had a day where I dont have at least one high and one low Confusedmy levemir is up morning and night will wait another night or so before I up it again tho. Wish my clinic appt would hurry up

Hang in there hopingfor! Did you have similar with your insulin after your first baby? Or is it just with this little munchkin?

Report
BonaDea · 28/06/2013 04:41

Ginger. How annoying. I would love to let these people try it for a week, especially when pregnant, and see how easy they find it. Idiot! Consultants like that are why people start 'massaging' the results in their little books!! I cannot stand being patronised - makes me seethe. Incidentally, 6.2 is a great third trimester hba1c, you are obv doing a great job. Smile

I've been having lots of weird afternoon lows. Yesterday had a sandwich for lunch with no insulin and was still low two hours later. Think it is the heat but will also need to drop the daytime levemir down.

Morning readings not quite so catastrophic but still not great. Working on them...

Think I'm on the novopen 4 but don't quote me. I get mine from dsns when I see them but am positive you can ask your GP to prescribe them.

SpottyTeacakes · 28/06/2013 16:24

Have you seen the echo one? It remembers if you've done your injection/what dose or something...

Ditto the pm lows bona, good excuse for tea and cake though!

Was told a few years back by GP receptionist that I would have to buy my own pen when I went in with a broken one wtf. Have only been given them by hospital clinics since then.

ginger not really is worse this time but then myb im just more aware this time due to my eyes and didnt do the suggested running a little higher after delivery to get back hypo awarenessSad

im still a novopen tho no idea what one it is, will look up the echo

Report
BonaDea · 29/06/2013 03:51

Diec - that's shocking. In my opinion GP receptionists are the devils minions. Far too many of them forget they're not actually the medical professionals and that they just answer the bloody phones!

Spotty,I've always fancied a memory pen to help me keep track. One of the other brands have been doing one for years. But is it heavy?

RueDeWakening · 29/06/2013 20:15

I think I've still got an original Novopen (version 1) knocking around somewhere :o I loved it, didn't get on with the more recent ones where you dial up the dose before you start at all. But it was clunky, minimum of 2u dose then up in 1u increments so not exactly fine tuned!

Hopingforno2 · 29/06/2013 22:09

Aagh so p**d off tonight had a late lunch so didnt fancy dinner was 9.6 so took 5u as it seems at night I need quite alot 1u to reduce by 1 but ut hasnt worked as at 9.30 I was 17.9!!!wtaf im also reg either high or low abd getting a fair few 7-8 readings how long after delivery should I ecoevt things to be this crappy? After my ds I admit I wasn't being careful(had other issues) ferl ad tho all I do is test and correct

Aw diec its a complete nightmare!im so so paranoid about my eyes I must be going through a box of 50 strips in a week or less as I cant settle not knowing if I think I may be high/low nothing said to me yet right enough about using too many. Think im going to have to phone the hospital direct as still no sign of any diabetes related appts and ellie is 12 weeks old or is this the norm?

Report
dieciocho · 01/07/2013 10:55
