I was low carbing in the early weeks but i feel so weak when i do LC, i often need quick fixes and i'm struggling with ideas if you know what i mean, i've had to ditch eggs as i feel sick as anything with them. I'm back up to 11 now just as i'd got it now i'd hypo'd, this is going to be a long night arggh xx

SpottyTeacakes · 16/06/2013 20:10

Hmm I hear ya. I don't low carb but I never had a problem with my post meal readings I was really lucky, but I also had the worst pregnancy and poorliest baby of the thread Confused

Anyway how about noodles? I've always found them fine on my levels and obviously filling, easy to weigh and work out carb amount. I'm a bit of a carb addict really Blush tuna pasta salad?

Spotty - how's the duct?

I was pretty low carb before pregnancy (not v low, around 80g per day) but found I was so hungry that I couldn't keep it up when pregnant. Some decent not too carby snack to have around would be berries, nuts, cheese, cold meat, melon. But of course when pregnant you just want crisps!!

SpottyTeacakes · 18/06/2013 08:43

It's fine thanks Smile I cleared it that morning but it hurts so much to do so Sad I don't know why I keep getting them!

hellbunny, that 8.9 on waking that you had the other day, was that a normal reading? If so, don't stress. I'd be really happy with anything between 6-9 on waking.
I'm either between 11-16 or 2-5 when I wake up - is there nothing in between, stupid body!? Confused
Had a 2.0 this morning because I was 15.2 at 00:30, so corrected with 5u - yeah, a bit too much I think!

I want to ask a dull, grey question - but now that we've all got/are about to have dependents, have you got life insurance?
We've found one through Diabetes UK, but wondered if there were any other companies out there that would take me on if the quote from Diabetes UK was too high.

BonaDea · 18/06/2013 12:57

Diec, I only have it through work, a pretty trad 'death in service' type benefit which pays out a multiple of my salary if I die.

I remember trying to get some critical illness cover a few years ago but couldn't get cover. Mind you I think critical illness is prob far more likely for a diabetic than plain old death!

If you have any joy with life cover let us know!!

hellbunny1 · 18/06/2013 20:18

Thanks ladies, i'm usually in the 6's (i tend to go to bed around 7mmol) but i went to bed at 8.5, but then that means the basal is pretty spot on doesn't it? it was 6.9 this morning, i'm telling myself i'm happy in the 6's, the DSN wants me in the 4's, even the 5's aren't good enough for her but thats never going to happen with the DP in pregnancy! With my other 2 babies my readings were always between 6-7mmol fasting (i checked at 4am sometimes and it was around the 5mmol mark) and they were ok so i'm not fretting about the fastings anymore just to please them.

Does anyone/did anyone else feel like the insulin is just like water? haha, it just feels wacky injecting so much for small meals when pre pregnancy i'd be needing 2-3 units.. bizarre but baby is putting up resistance and all that.

Growth scan today, baby is estimated 2lb 8oz at 28 weeks, happy with that, i hope its accurate as my other two babies scans all turned out to be pretty accurate.. fingers crossed! his tummy is around the 30th centile.. head around the 80th.. Blush haha, xx

BonaDea · 18/06/2013 20:54

Hell - those morning readings are great. As my pregnancy continued dawn phenomenon made fasting levels a nightmare and 6-8 was the best i could hope for if i was lucky. I hope your midwife is diabetic otherwise she needs a slap for not congratulating you instead of setting unrealistic targets!!

hellbunny1 · 19/06/2013 14:19

it drives me mad with their morning targets, none of them are diabetic (i found this out on my dafne course lol!) I think they assume we are all like a text book, it was 9 this morning week so not too happy but the post meals have been good the past couple of days so trying not to worry! the weather has gone abit stuffy again, I think that's helping to pull the readings down abit xx

hellbunny1 · 19/06/2013 14:19

meant to say eeek rather than week lol

BonaDea · 19/06/2013 21:50

Yep, agree that hot weather helps!!

dieciocho · 20/06/2013 07:04

Readings of 4 hellbunny? No way, I don't feel safe at that level because I know it will drop. Your DSN isn't so S.

SpottyTeacakes · 22/06/2013 09:33

I've just had a letter saying I need a repeat thyroid test as it was borderline, diec was it you who had the same? I had the same after having dd so not worried....must be why I'm still carrying a bit of extra weight Wink

dieciocho · 22/06/2013 14:46

Yes spotty, it is me. I have been told that I will be tested again in 3 months and that there is nothing I can do about it Sad

SpottyTeacakes · 22/06/2013 14:48

Mines end of September. I'm sure it'll be back to normal Smile (both of us)

Hopingforno2 · 23/06/2013 04:15

RueDeWakening · 23/06/2013 22:20

That sounds rubbish, Hoping - hope things are better tonight. I'm all over the shop tbh, but keeping on keeping on, I figure that's about all we can do.

Hopingforno2 · 23/06/2013 23:32

Im the same rue its doing my head in now esp since im trying so hard to keep it steady for the sake of my eyes didnt even allow myself a week off after delivery! Im still waiting on consultant appt too.

dieciocho · 25/06/2013 10:16

spotty what stage are you at with introducing real food to little F? Are you delaying because he was early?

SpottyTeacakes · 25/06/2013 10:17

No with weaning you do it on actual age. Felix is on three meals a day now at seven months Shock

OP posts:
dieciocho · 25/06/2013 21:03

Blimey! And how are your boobs and blood sugars reacting to that?

BonaDea · 25/06/2013 22:44

Wow spotty! He must be a hungry wee fella. I met with a friend today with a 7.5 month old who just plays with food in his mouth and is basically ebf still.

T's sleeping has got so much better! He is just about going through the night to about 5 or even 6. My morning bgs are rubbish tho - think the night feeds were keeping them low. Now double figures all the way!

SpottyTeacakes · 26/06/2013 04:09

My boobs are engorged lots but he was feeding two hourly and I've cut it back to 3-4. Sugars are high Blush

I had an awful migraine last night and was really sick Sad

OP posts:
dieciocho · 26/06/2013 07:14

bona I have exactly the same situation now that V sleeps for 8hrs. Dawn p. readings are horrid some mornings and I can't see a pattern Angry

Ouchy boobs spotty, not looking forward to that.
