Exactly what we thought kitty!
To be honest, the normal rooms were 4 beds and 1 bathroom, so not that bad.

Hi all. Well, we're back after an amazing trip away. The weather was great in Scotland too. The pram and rest of the stuff turned up that night thanks to a kind man at the courier depot - it was scheduled for delivery the next morning but when I rang up desperate he chucked it in the back of his own car and delivered on his way home!!!

T was great, even sleeping much better than at home. We reckon the combo of fresh Scottish air and meeting tons of new people / travelling / being overloaded with new stuff probably did it. Home now so we'll see how he goes.

Kitty - I think you should assume at least a couple of nights will be needed. You are likely to be induced which of itself can take more than 24 hours! I was in for a week!! 2 days being induced, then recovery for section and baby was a bit jaundiced.

I had a private room for half that time, one night in a room for 2 and a couple with 4 others. My hosp also rents private rooms for about 70 a night, but it is massively based on availability and clinical need. Even then partners can't stay overnight other than on the night of the birth which I think is quite standard. There was also a private wing where you get a lovely room and private midwives for 600 per night or something silly!!

dieciocho · 04/06/2013 07:38

Glad the trip went well bona and well done you for being brave enough to fly/travel/attend a wedding with a 10-week old!

SpottyTeacakes · 04/06/2013 08:13

Ouch spotty! Know my next wont be great either. Will your team tick you off or realise that as a new mum it is pretty damn hard?

SpottyTeacakes · 04/06/2013 19:13

Well today it was the specialist GP at my surgery I saw and she's really nice, said not to worry until I'm getting more sleep and not so knackered! Review again in six months.

Dp has been out since 2:30 and won't be back until gone midnight and I've just bathed both dc and put them to bed Grin

Ive just changed doctors surgery so have no idea how they do things. What a complete pain it is changing too stayed at the practice near my parents but got told just after ellie was born that i had to change (got a letter saying i had a month to do so) the 1st time was a new patients appt with a nurse who then prescribed me 10ml vials of novo instead of the cartritdges for pen and gave me keto testing strips for monitor instead of bg ones Hmm luckily pharmacist was fantastic and phoned them n got it all sorted out! Now im waiting on the doctor getting me reffered back down to consultant.

What a day yesterday!! Only had one high reading but then had no cake as the one we got ds was specially made and had characters on top it got home in one piece but 2 hours later the characters were falling over and the heads arms hands ets kept falling off. We tried to repair it a bit ourselves but wasnt great cue a very upset bday boy i called the place that made it and ended up with an argument they accused us a) of letting my ds play with it and b) that we had then as it 'just wasnt possible that happened' i was fit to be tied honestly could have lost the plot and oh abd his sis took it back to show her. Sorry rant over and hoping for a better day today lol

BonaDea · 05/06/2013 07:32

Hoping - what a shame about the cake! Hope you get your money back

dieciocho · 05/06/2013 07:56

My last HbA1c when V was about 10 weeks old was 7.7 - stupid thing, all the test did was mask the MASSIVE hypos and embarrassing highs I was having!

Hopingforno2 · 05/06/2013 09:33

bona thanks we had to really fight her and are still only get half the money back and to keep the cake it was dp that went so better than nothing but doesnt make up for upsetting a child on his bday!

diec im thinking even if they check mine i would be the same

Hopingforno2 · 09/06/2013 04:42

How is everyone?

Im having a really bad few days have a head cold and my bg is running high almost all the time Sad combined with the heat im feeling rather sorry for myself!! Anyone else get high nos when ill? I mean like reg 16-17 and hovering around 9-10 ? Help what do i do??

Have my eye refferal appt tues and its freaking my out too and having these highs is not helping.

RueDeWakening · 09/06/2013 10:52

I get high results when I'm fighting something off. Best thing for me is to up the basal rate for a few days till it calms down - maybe you could try that? Rather than give continual corrections.

Good news from us, M was discharged by the midwives yesterday, after getting to within 30g of his birth weight. It's taken a while, he was 3 weeks old on Thursday! But glad that's done, just need to see how the HVs are about him (inevitably) dropping down the centiles over the next few months. My sensible HV retired last year, so I don't know this new one and don't know what her reaction will be. Fingers crossed she'll listen to reason.

Hopingforno2 · 09/06/2013 12:11

Yeah im taking more insulin with every meal but its like i become insulin resistant! I took 30 units(normally 20-22) and only had bbq things so mostly meat myb a handful of crisps i even refused a bit of my friends 30th bday cake Sad i took 6u when it was still that high going to bed around 1am woke around 4.30am was 16.5 took another 5u woke again at 7.30am still 16.4 wtf??!! I took 6u and my levemir so its at 5.9 around 11.30 but i expect that will be my lowest reading all day bloody colds why is my body so stupid when i have one.

Great news about M Smile

dieciocho · 10/06/2013 09:15

Oh poor you hoping, yeah, I get readings like that when I've got a cold or 'flu. Try rue's suggestion though.

I know it's sad that the sun's gone, but it was playing havoc with my bgs - I couldn't keep them up for longer than an hour or so at a time, was constantly cramming biscuits in my gob!

dieciocho · 10/06/2013 12:05

Went to have blood taken for next HbA1C last week and GP's just called to say my thyroid function looks a bit rubbish. Had this problem at university, but not for the past few years.
Didn't one of you have the same problem? Or maybe I'm mis-remembering a post a REALLY long time ago.

SpottyTeacakes · 10/06/2013 12:17

Diec my thyroid was dodgy after dd but it was fine again by a year Smile

OP posts:
BonaDea · 10/06/2013 20:59

I'm having late afternoon hypos at the moment which is really annoying. Have tried tinkering with long acting but if I have less I end up high earlier in the day. Sheesh.

Diec - hope you get the thyroid issue sorted easily. I have to go for bloods soon and am dreading it. And I basically think it will be all nonsense anyway because of highs and lows.

Meantime, seem to have plateaued with weight loss which is annoying despite DS eating for England!

dieciocho · 11/06/2013 08:24

bona are you having tea? You know, a bit of toast or a biscuit at 4-ish? I was told off for not doing that throughout my pregnancy as I kept dipping low at about 3pm.

I've got the impression that thyroid problems are more common in T1s - is that the case?
It would explain why I'm dead tired all day long - more than just the fact that I've got a baby. Also, why I can't shift that last 1/2 stone Grin

Hopingforno2 · 11/06/2013 08:24

Well on way to opthamology appt Sad fingers crossed i dont nees treatment

RueDeWakening · 11/06/2013 10:24

Thyroid issues are autoimmune too, I think they are more common in t1s yes - my mum and sister both have low thyroid levels and take thyroxine, but I've been ok so far - get checked annually at least thanks to family link!

In other news, I've been sent an appointment for a glucose tolerance test on 9th July - hospital won't cancel it because "giving birth cures diabetes" don't you know ConfusedShock I'm going to speak to the consultant at my 6 week check in a week or two and see what she says. Idiots!
