Hi Tillymint - glad to hear the scan went well!

I really wish that we found out the baby's sex now... it's bugging me though I know it doesn't matter to me in the slightest!! SO I am sat debating the differences between pregnancies so far..does this mean it's a girl not a boy.. or do I go with my gut instincts...!!!!!!! Here is the list!

  1. spotty and dandruffy this time - lovely shiny hair and skin last time
  2. cyclic pregnancy sickness this time, on going.. concentrated period of sickness last time gone by about 14-15 weeks
  3. hairs still growing on my legs this time (but slow).. no need to shave last time!
  4. branflakes and milk are a must have now... potatoes last time!
  5. no appetite this time - starving constantly last time..

Both dm and dsil were convinced that their dd's were ds's (like me this time) but dd's arrived - is this a good way to look at it as I am convinced this is a boy!!

Oh well.... have to wait and see! It'll be interesting to find out especially as we tried Hazel Chesterman-Phillips timing method for a girl (not that we are bothered either way!)...

Here's to the name choosing arguments to come!!!

stringbean · 04/05/2004 20:28

Hi everyone. Thought I should drop in and see how you all are. I'm afraid I haven't had time to read all your postings - work is manic at the moment, so no time to log on there, and we're decorating the spare room for ds, so the computer is in the dining room and connecting it is a bit of a faff (is that a word?).

Jacksmum, so sorry to hear about all you've been going through - is it getting any better?

Re: probiotic drinks, there was an article about this on Radio 4 a while back, and they suggested that they're not really much help on their own as they tend to be destroyed by acid in the stomach and small intestine. Apparently there are about 500 types of bacteria in our gut, so enhancing just one doesn't really do much good; your gut flora changes on a daily basis as well, depending on what you've eaten, so this has an effect too. Apparently , you need to take prebiotics as well (don't ask me what these are!) to feed and enhance the bacteria already in your gut, but they did suggest that just eating more fruit and veg and improving the quality of your diet could have the same effect as taking probiotic drinks etc. They did concede though that probiotics are helpful in cases of childhood diarrhoea. Right, I'll shut up now.

Good to hear about your scans, and that some of you have asked the sex. I'm really curious as to what I'm expecting, and would really like to ask, but don't want to appear as though I'm not concerned about the baby's health. Obviously, this is the thing we're all most concerned about, but just wondering if the sonographer thinks 'God, just be grateful it's OK, sex is immaterial'. The thing is, I was convinced all the way through that ds was a boy, but with this one I really haven't a clue; the pregnancy has been totally different in lots of little ways.

Still don't look pregnant, but have put on over a stone, so just look as if I've been pigging out, which is worse I think. Clothes all getting a bit tight, but Gap men's department has come up trumps again (found lots of stuff there last time)and have just got back all the clothes I wore last time from a friend, so hopefully I'm sorted. Did try on some stuff in Formes in Covent Garden last time, lovely clothes, but made me look like a barrage balloon. I think you need to be a certain shape for maternity clothes - and I'm not sure I'm it.

Best of luck to the rest of you still waiting for your scans. I still haven't had an appointment for mine, and I'm 19 weeks on Saturday - the midwife told me they're sent out around 17 weeks (is the postal service lousy in other areas too? It's getting really dire round our way!) and I'm nearly 19. I live in hope.

dinny · 05/05/2004 15:32

Hi Stringbean (and all),

Don't think they mind you asking what sex it is at all (unless hospital policy not to disclose). Our sonographer asked if we wanted to know what it was.

I got my 20wk scan app at the 12wk one. May be worth chasing at the hospital in case you aren't on the system for some reason.

cazzybabs · 05/05/2004 16:36

Dinny I would phone up to chase up for scan because my form asking for one wasn't sent and only when I chased it up did I get a date and had my 12 week scan at 18 weeks. So it could be you are lots in the system.

I am getting pain across my bump for the last few days - I am guessing it is ligaments streching.

Can I ask when you have seen the midwife - how many weeks are you? I have seen for my booking appt. but I sam confused as to when I should see her again. MY bf tells me just to phone and ask her but she did fill in the back of the pregnancy notes as to when to see her, but I am kind of confused by it - a blond moment (and I am not blond!)..

dinny · 05/05/2004 17:03

Hi Cazzybabs, think you mean Stringbean re scan not me - had my on Monday. I wouldn't trust them not to have lost her in the system though!

Re midwife - I had my booking app late (was lost in systen!) at 15 wks, then saw one of the team at 18 weeks (she had come in error though, the oher midwife said). My next appointment is 24 weeks (I am nearly 22 wks now). Think there is usually a long gap between booking and next app. Are you with the community midwives? Or at surgery? I'd phone if unsure. Dinny

cazzybabs · 05/05/2004 22:54

A blond pregant moment!!!!

Just thought am prob. offending all blond people on her who are not a ditsy as me - sorry!!!!!! Its a brown haired moment!!!

stringbean · 09/05/2004 13:57

Finally got my scan appointment through on Saturday. It's in a couple of weeks, so I'll be 21+ weeks by then. Re: midwife appointments, my midwife went through all the visits with me, and explained how the NICE guidelines for ante-natal care have meant that second time mums have fewer appointments, as it's deemed unnecessary to have as many as previously if you're 'low-risk'. Consequently, I saw mine at 11 weeks for booking-in, 16 weeks for bloods, and won't see her again until 28 weeks! I do have a mobile number in case I have any problems. To be honest, I seem so busy at the moment, that fewer visits won't bother me, but 12 weeks is a long time to wait.

highlander · 09/05/2004 23:23

got my amnio results last night - everything fine and we're having a boy. Yahoo - no pressure to have another one

Bit of a relief, just have to see the OB this week to get booked in for the CS. Now I can relax (a bit!) and occasionally pee in the pot or have my BP taken.

Still waiting for the bump tho'.......

cazzybabs · 10/05/2004 00:43

Hey they are all doing this on the August thread - its a crazy site. Madame Zaritska's reading

What she senses for you
The day you deliver, outside will be slightly overcast. Your baby will arrive in the afternoon.

After a labor lasting approximately 6 hours, your child, a boy, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and will be 20-1/2 inches long. This child will have green eyes and be almost bald.

Well there we go - check it out

sheknows.com/inside/look/736.htm

cazzybabs · 10/05/2004 00:49

Although now I am confused because according to the chinese gender calender (www.yinyang.cc/calendar_gender.shtml) its a girl.
And if I was wearing my engagment ring when I did Madame Zaritska's reading then the baby would be a girl born on a sunny evening - he ho...just have to wait for the big day I guess...
unless I am having an intersex baby or a transvestite (no idea how to spell that!)

dejags · 10/05/2004 01:05

Hi All,

Haven't been on here for a really long time. We are doing very well - 21+3 now and still looking forward to our 23 week scan next week. I am beside myself with anticipation - I cannot wait to find out the sex of the baby.

Madame Z has this in mind for us:
The day you deliver, outside will be sunny. Your baby will arrive in the early evening.

After a labor lasting approximately 12 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 5 pounds, 12 ounces, and will be 20-1/2 inches long. This child will have light blue eyes and a little patch of brown hair.

We are unlikely to have a 5lber as DS was 8lbs10, this baby is also unlikely to be 3 inches shorter than his/her brother... fun nonetheless.

Otherwise this pregnancy is progressing fairly uneventfully. I have felt pretty cr@p for the past week - lightheaded, pubic bone sore, heartburn but no real complaints.

Hope you are all well.

Hi all,
Just a quick post to let you know I'm still around. Busy at the mo with the 'life laundry'. Still waiting for exchange of contracts on house move. We've decided if the sale falls thru', we'll wait til next year to put on market.
Just have to change guest room into bedroom for dd1.
Had a terrible IBS attack today. Luckily neighbour came over to take care of dd2 and pay cleaners, whilst I was upstairs with 'stuff' eminating from both ends... Dh had to come home to take care. Hope its not a sign of things to come.

Keep healthy and happy

mcgarry452 · 11/05/2004 11:38

I had my 21 week scan yesterday, and they think it's going to be a little boy!!

He looked very healthy, so hopefully no problems there.

It all feels much more real now!

Good luck to everyone else having their scans.

dejags · 17/05/2004 15:36

cazzybabs · 17/05/2004 23:27

Had my 20 week scan today - at 8am!!! Which was a rubbish time, not only did I have to get up really early when I am already very tired, I didn't need any time off work . HUMPH!!! We took dd and dp mother. Poor dd didn't want to left with her grandmother and screamed so much dp had to go out of the scan after 5 minutes and save his mother. But anyway dp, dd and dp mum got to come in at the end and see the baby.

It is all fine - slighty small but still within the normal range (hopefullly it will just fall out!) and no idea what sex it is, but it is definatly human.

Am due around the 23rd I think - I am not really sure as can on only work out how many weeks I am now 20+4 if thats any help to anyone.

Dejags - sorry your are feeling so tired.
Jacksmumto1 - hope your SPD is managable.
Hope everyone else is alright.

tillymint · 18/05/2004 21:53

It's real now, complete on 16th June.
Need to get somewhere to rent now. One we've seen is over budget, so trying to negotiate lower rent, Wish me luck.

Roll Call

highlander · 18/05/2004 22:52

jacksmumto1 · 19/05/2004 19:50

Hi all... I am sort of around - staying with my parents so I can have childcare help and rest - SPD is manageable at the moment so I hope I can stay this way! Going home next week so will be online more (and hopefully will be able to cope with everything!). Am starting to feel nervous about the prospect of having 2 children to look after - arrghh!!!

roll call: 9th Sept (though likely to be earlier due to elective cs - will confirm later!!)

no idea to gender - am feeling jealous of all those who know!!!

tillymint · 21/05/2004 12:48

jacks
glad to hear you're on better form. Don't be nervous about two babes. They are such a joy and no. two seems to be easier. I'm expecting no. 3. with dd2 nearly 10mths and has just started to crawl eeeek!!
SPD taken a little dive - overdoing it!
Make sure you don't get complacent now that you are feeling more relaxed.

Speak soon

dinny · 22/05/2004 16:29

Hello, how is everyone?

I've been on the "restless legs" thread - just started getting this - annoyingly. Driving me potty.

I have resumed having the odd glass of vino in the evening now my sickness has gone. Shocked to realise I could easily feel like downing half a bottle. My appetite for alcohol has returned!

Can I ask a feeding question - are you all planning to bf? I had a hard time feeding dd1 and am worried same will happen again. Would be interested to know what preparations you areall making (if any) and how I can maximise chances of success this time.

cazzybabs · 23/05/2004 19:53

I am feeling a little sorry for myself today - i have a terrible headache all day! So I went into Boots to buy painkillers and the lady said while you're here I take your blood pressure because high bp causes headaches. And its slightly on the highside (something over 92 and 90 is the bit where they think its getting a little high) - so tried to phone my midwife but I have 2 who jobshare and I can't get hold of either of them and I don't know whose on call and whose not working and I am not sure this counts as an emerency to phone the on-call midwife so I'll have to wait until morning when I can try and phone again. I am sure its just because I am dehydrated, although thats my other moan IA m drinking so muich water I feel like a fish and I keep going to the loo every two mintues!!!

Hope everyone else is coping with heat - am dreading July and August.

tillymint · 24/05/2004 00:34

cazzy
sorry you're feeling yuk
why don't you all the maternity ward directly about concrns over bp. Or see GP?
Must admit I don't even know what bp should be, or when to get worried. Mine was 115 over 54 today.
As for heat, buy the fans now. They sell mout PDQ!I was pg last year and dd2 was born 26 July. For the first fwe weeks, she slept in just her nappy, no sheet with a fan blowing above her all night. Downstairs was cooler, So we slept in the lounge.
We're already getting some air cooling units in preparation. dd2 room was 26 C when I put her down at 6.30pm tonight, fan still on in her room.
This year I'll have all of august pg - not looking forward to it either. Try not to think about it.

cazzybabs · 24/05/2004 00:56

From my limited understanding of bp its the second number they look at. 60-80 is normal, but can vary round that. 90 is a little on the high side and anything over 100 they get really worried! I am not concerned about it - I'll see hpow my head is in the morning!
Fans sound good - shall have to invest. although am still after my new pram (found it for £50 cheaper somewhere else other than kiddicare!)
