cazzybabs · 22/04/2004 20:37

I am feeling fat, but at the stage where maternity clothes are too big and normal clothes are too small (what a pain). I have a date for my 12 week dating scan (umm I reackon its only 5 weeks too late - I hope they just to it as a dating scan and then do my 20 week scan at 20 weeks else I shall feel robbed). I haven't felt the baby move either - so I am really worried now and when the midwife came she didn't listen for a heart beat so maybe I am not really pregnant at all....espcailly now I have told so many people because I am getting so blooming fat.

Am trying to persuade dp that we really need a new expensive pram (I likw the mamas and papas ones - especially the really expensive ones) and a nice graco swimg - dp on the other hand its not convinced as we only have a tiny house that's not ours and we are supposed to be saving to by a house - but who needs a house when you can nice baby things I say!

Hope everyone else is blooming.

highlander · 23/04/2004 01:56

pretty sure I felt foetal movement yesterday (17wks) and today - pretty freaky, although for some strange reason I laughed out loud

DH (who's a doctor), said 'wow' quickly followed by 'are you sure you weren't about to do a big fart?'

It's made up for the ligament pain I had yesterday that left me sofa-bound - and I thought I was supposed to be blooming!

dinny · 23/04/2004 14:10

Tillymint, life not too hectic or anything then???!! Hope the family is better now. I tried to drink glass of wine yesterday and threw up straight away. V annoying. Have discovered gorgeous mat clothes - Isabella Oliver - ordered loads and they look soooo nice. Feel all slim and chic in them (bit big though as bump not developed enough, I think).

dinny · 23/04/2004 16:16

Pollingfold, I tried to email you details for yoga in S London - tech said you didn't want to be contacted via Mumsnet. Email me if you still want some teachers' details!

Dinny

mcgarry452 · 23/04/2004 22:22

Hi everyone. I'm new to mumsnet, and my first baby is due on the 10th September. Can I please join in this thread?
It's great reading through all the messages and seeing that I wasn't alone in thinking that I might turn up to my first scan to find that I'd imagined the whole thing!! I've got my 21 week scan on the 4th May. I'm dying to know whether it's a boy or a girl!

cazzybabs · 24/04/2004 23:18

i HAVE my 12 week scan tomorrow (well actaully my 18 week scan) which is really annoying as dp is away and they can't change it. I am just hoping everything is going to be OK. My friend from work has offered to come with me but I think I would rather go alone...just incase. and I have my bloods next week (If I am really pregnant).

Distracted · 25/04/2004 00:56

Tillymint - what a disasterous holiday, poor you! Are both your dds better now? What about you - presume your swelling didn't get any worse and you didn't have to go to hospital? All that to cope with as well as the pregnancy - hope everythings on the mend now. Don't worry about the mat clothes, you've got enough on your plate at the moment! Anyway I just heard from a friend that there is apparently a Next in Swindon that does mat clothes, so planning a visit soon (went into Next in Bristol and was told that virtually none of the shops sold mat. clothes, would have to mail order unless I went to Cardiff, which is too far away).

Highlander - glad you felt some movement, it's always reassuring isn't it (I didn't feel any first time until 20-22 weeks).

Good luck for tomorrow's scan Cazzybabs.

McGarry452 - are you going to find out the sex at your scan then? That's exciting - you'll have to let us know.

I'm moving house next week, which I'm dreading so may be absent from Mumsnet now for a few weeks with all the packing etc. Although I know I'm not the only one moving house. We're all mad!

cazzybabs · 26/04/2004 00:35

Had my scan today and was really really scared...but I am really really preganant and I saw the heart beating (because in Cambridge they don't listen for the heartbeat anymore when you see the midwife )
and it was moving around. BUT there is no appointments left for my 20 week scan so have to go at 8 in the morning - which is a pain because who will look after dd as dp will want to watch the scan.

AND the other good news today is dd did a wee in her potty today for the 1st time. She was running around with no nappy on as she normally does just before bed when suddenly she went and sat on her potty and there it was. I am very proud. I took photographic evidence for dp (because he is still away) (if boots print it and don't think it's some kind of dodgy child porn - rather than just a really proud mum.) God - I am sad!

jacksmumto1 · 28/04/2004 14:05

Hi everyone, haven't been around for a little while but have the chance now to update! Having a horrible time this week, my SPD is very bad - I can barely move but neither will the pain go away however I sit or lie. I've spent 2 days crying with the pain. Thankfully my inlaws have had ds but he's back today and I am dreading having to cope. Midwife has re-referred me to physio to see if they can offer any further help plus I am seeing the GP regarding stronger painkillers. Don't really want to take any medication but realise that I can't cope with a 2 year old AND be in this amount of pain for the next 20 weeks(!) If anyone has any suggestions - please tell me!

Baby however, seems to be fine - kicking and squirming away - oblivious to mum's discomfort! 20 week scan is now on Monday so hope I get some photo's this time!

Cazzybabs, glad your scan went well and you feel reassured. I can't understand that they don't listen to the baby's heartbeat at each antenatal appt - surely it is a good way to check all is ok as well as reassure the mum??

dinny · 28/04/2004 14:13

Oh, poor you, Jacksmum. What an awful lot of pain you are in. I'm afraid I have no suggestions. Does osteopathy help at all (would you get it on the NHS?)
Whereabouts are you again? If it's anywhere near me (south London) we could meet up and you can have sit/lie-down whilst I run after your ds and my dd???
My scan is on Monday too! At 2.30. I'm quite nervous about it. Just been kicked SO hard by baby - really hurt. Everyone keeps saying I am suddenly looking v pregnant. Forgot just how much tummy expands!!
Big hugs to you, Jacksmum - and to everyone else. xxxx

niknik · 28/04/2004 15:27

Hi everyone hope you are all well. Sorry to hear your suffering Jacks

Have just come back from my 20 week scan and got about 10 great piccies. She took about 1/2 hour doing the scan and was pointing everything out. We have a great picture of its face sideways on and you can see its mouth and nose really well (poor thing has inherited mine and DH's noses already, looks decidedly pointy already).

Crown to rump length 18 cm and legs 11 cm's. Dates are a day later than last scan so my official due date is 8th Sep.

I am now going to try and relax and enjoy the rest of this pregnancy. I am going to book in for Aquanatal and Yoga classes and try and get a bit fitter

Off to the Lakes now for the weekend.

Hope every body else has a nice weekend and good luck to all those who have scans over the next couple of weeks

dinny · 28/04/2004 16:12

Lovely to read your post, Niknik. Glad all is well. I'm so nervous about Monday. Were you worried before your scan?

Enjoy your weekend - this weather is amazing. x

jacksmumto1 · 28/04/2004 18:21

Thank you Dinny for your offer of support - unfortunatley I am a bit far from London in Bristol - but thankyou! Have just seen the GP, she has given me a prescription for codeine but wasn't happy about it and has asked me to wait till I see the consultant on Monday before I take any. She could give me pethidine in tablet form but again wasn't too happy about that.. I do understand her reasoning as ideally no medication is best in pregnancy. My midwife has phoned for the second time today (and is v.concerned) and suggested I get fitted for a fembrace asap rather than wait for the new physio appt as I will have to pay which ever way I go. Having to make the decision of whether to struggle on here with dh trying to give the best support he can around working full-time or whether to spend time at my parents some 200 miles away where they can help me out with ds and I needn't do any housework etc... I think the decision is made for me regarding ds needing a full-time carer who can give the care he needs...

talk soon! xx

cazzybabs · 28/04/2004 18:27

jacksmumto1 - god it sounds awful. I am offering virtual baby sitting services - my little girl would love someone to play with! Hope you manage to get something sorted soon.

tillymint · 29/04/2004 00:40

Oh Jacks, I was in the same pain last year with dd2. I eventually gave in to pain killers, but tbh they were not very effective. You will need a great deal of practical and emotional support. I was confined to a chair, and like you ,no position was pain free. The belt support did help a little, but as I got bigger it became uncomfortable. I don't want to be all doom and gloom - I do have some advice.

  • Get in touch with local support group - you need people who really understand to chat to.
  • Visit www.spd-uk.org Print off the information booklet and get everyone in your family to read it ESPECIALLY PARTNER. They need to understand what you are going thru' and what support you need.
  • Visit an osteopath. It will be worth every penny -(mine is £30 a session and I go every fortnight). I feel sooo much better this time. Last year I would've remortgaged to be pain free.
  • Never push a supermarket trolley.
  • Never push a hoover.
  • Never cross your legs.
  • Either sit upright, or lie flat - no slouching. Posture is essential.

I'll give you some labour advice nearer the time. All I will say is 12hrs of labour on gas and air felt pain free in comparison - and dd2 was 9.5lbs! The pain relief afterwards is heaven sent!

Ask me anything, I want to help. Try to see an osteopath - it's not on NHS.

I'm with you all the way Jacks. It will be worth it.

tillymint · 29/04/2004 00:47

distracted

Good luck with the move.
Trying to do a life laundry myseldf - I have so much toot!
Still can't find the bag - dh thinks it may've gone to the clothing bank. grrrr.

Had to cancel my scan last week - cso now it's next Tuesday, at 22 weeks! Starting to feel little flutters now! But very tired this week - prob recovering from anti-biotics.

QESTION TO EVERYONE
Anypne else taking probiotic drinks? Apparantly good in pregnancy - will find out more.

cazzybabs · 29/04/2004 15:33

About the probiotic drinks I was thinking about it because I am reading they are good at preventing Asthma and Excema (sp?) and hayfever etc. But apart from thinking about it I haven't really got round to anymore then that so am intersted in your thoughts and what you will take.

jacksmumto1 · 29/04/2004 16:59

Tillymint - thank you for your support and advice.. it does mean a lot to know people care!

My mum is coming tommorrow for a extended week and then we (ds and I) will go back with her for at least a week. This to and fro'ing will carry on for as long as I need help. InLaws have also offered help with ds and we have arranged to sort the help required on a 'as need' basis so it can change depending on requirements.

I do have some questions...

  1. how did you cope with dd1 during your pregnancy?

  2. what support belt did/do you have? (I had a tubigrip last time - so uncomfortable; have a belt from bumpto3.com which was helping and I am sure is keeping things stable this time but is now getting uncomfortable as I get bigger).

  3. How do I find a reputable osteopath?

Hope you are managing this time round. Any tips would be welcome!!

Sorry Niknikm for the delay in response to your questions re heart moniter from Mothercare - it was only £30 and i bought it last week from quite a big store we have near us (Purley Way, Croydon) and it has two sets of earphones so we can both listen at the same time and i think you can plug it into the tv and get surround sound but I haven't been quite that sad yet that i have done that but its a pad you strp on to your belly and plug the headphones into and after slight moving around you can clearly hear the heartbeat!! Its fab and whenever i get panicky about not feeling kicks or anything it reassures me loads! Must say though that got my first kick on Saturday morning and it was quite hefty!! After waiting so long for the 'butterfly' feeling that i was told about it would appear that i have skipped straight to full on kicks but at 22 weeks i should bloody well hope so!!

I reccommend the heart moniter thing though as cheap as chips and utterly amazing fix to have whenever you get the time!

highlander · 02/05/2004 23:06

has anyone seen the Due in Jan 2005 thread? My God, we're old hands now

It seems such a long time ago that I did the preggers test and now I have a booting foetus!

dinny · 02/05/2004 23:29

Hello!. Had my scan yesterday. All was fine and got nice pics. Didn't find out what sex it was - dh wants a suprise. Very tempting to ask though.
Did you have your scan yesterday, Jacksmum? Anyone else have one soon?

Lolabelle - that Mothercare store (Mothercare World?) is our nearest one too. Where abouts are you - Croydon?

jacksmumto1 · 02/05/2004 23:49

Hi!

Yes! did have our (3rd!) scan yesterday - well Had 2 in fact! Baby didn't want to move and was curled up so had to go off for a choc bar to see if a sugar rush induced movement... well, it did change position but wouldn't move again! A very laid-back baby - obviously takes after dh! - one arm behind head in reclining style and one hand by it's face!! As you have probably gathered, we didn't find the sex out... I did doublecheck with dh before we left but no, he didn't want to know! (I'm convinced it is a boy though!) Will be having another(!) scan at 28 weeks (due to AFP levels being high - often means size is small therefore they want to check growth).

Having a naff week - nasty tummy bug means needing to be very close to the loo... Plus I have got so spotty and dandruffy - I NEVER have this problem!!!!! Where is the 'blooming' stage????

Hope everyone else is well!

cazzybabs · 03/05/2004 01:08

I had my bloods taken today - not as exctiing as a scan though that's the week after next at 8 in the morning. Still need a babysitter for dd so dp can come.

I am spotty too and its not little ones but great big uncoverable by makeup ones!! And to top it all off a friend of ours came to the door today and I was fast asleep with the tele on so he knocked at the window (why - if I knock at someone's door and they don't answer I go away) but anyway I had to answer the door pretending I had not been asleep - I am mortified and he kept asking all the complex questions about what I was up to and about the pregnancy and I was so foggy god I must have looked really wierd....

Jacksmumto1 glad the scan went well and hope you are feeling better with your tummy bug - many hugs!

tillymint · 03/05/2004 23:28

Glad we're getting excited about scans. Mine was yesterday, my active little one kept rolling over the wrong way or something so I had to go for a wander to get him in a beeter position to see heart. Yes HIM, I was too nosey this time. I needed to know whethr or not to keep dd2 (9mths old) pink things - guess not.
However dh and I agree that pink sleep suits at night are not a problem, will keep them.
A boy, how exciting !!! IOs that why I'm spotty this time too?
