Just looking for like-minded ladies who are also new at this weird and wonderful thing to share my terror joy...

Feeling good so far at 5+3 although obv very early days and so much talk of miscarriage on this forum that it can become a little scary. Huge sympathy for anyone who's had a miscarriage, btw.

But thought I'd ask:

*how long had you been trying?
*how far along are you (if you know)?
*how are you feeling? Symptoms etc
*who have you told?
*are you, like me, rabidly Googling EVERYTHING?

Had my first appt with midwife this morning n she wad lovely (thank god!) just said I will have to go to a bigger hospital half an hr away to give birth as my bmi is 35 but if i can get it down i will be ok at the smaller local one. Not bothered which really. So my first scan is booked for November 6th - feels so much more real now! Gotta have a blood test for getational diabetes at 20+ weeks no biggie. Told my boss as she said someone has to come do a risk assessment lol! 7 weeks feels like a lifetime away til my scan!

GeordieCherry · 17/09/2012 17:02

Hey that's good Hopeful. All sounds positive. This will be the longest 7 weeks ever!!

I've sacked off the diet, figuring I might as well enjoy what I want so I already have a little food bump.

Think I'll get one of those bump covers so I can wear my clothes for a bit longer.

Boobs absolutely wreck today. Having to put one hand on my chest when I'm walking around!

On our way to the Dr this eve. Hope they do a little more than just make a midwife appointment...

It will make it more real to have a medical type person involved. And I want to know if I can go abroad in November!

Fluffeh · 17/09/2012 17:44

Faith I'm about the same as you on 8+2 today. I have my booking appointment tomorrow with the local midwife.
After that initial visit though I'm having a case load midwife meaning I'll see the same one right through as I'm a bit of a complicated case.
I keep flitting between excitement and fear. I can't wait for the 12 week scan :).

HaveALittleFaith · 17/09/2012 18:03

It's nice to be on this thread, because I'm due right at the end of April (at least til the scan confirms it!) I'm the baby of my ante-natal thread! I'm suffering a bit - starting with back/abdo pain and ended up in A&E on GP recommendation. They scanned my kidney and tried to look at the baby (bladder not full enough!) :( turns out I have a uti tracking up to my kidney. Possibly why my sickness has been so bad and I have felt so tough the last few days! I'm the same Fluffeh, nervous/excited about the scan. Realised today how nervous I am about the pregnancy and hoping I'll be able to feel excited when I do see baby. I suspect I'll cry! :)

Mabsey · 17/09/2012 18:33

Thanks for your advice - all good ideas.

GeordieCherry · 17/09/2012 20:04

Eek Faith that sounds horrid!

Saw the Dr tonight. He said "congratulations", took my bp & referred me to the midwife. Well, gave me the phone number. That's what they do here Smile

He phoned through to the receptionist as well as got them to give me an Emma's Diary. They all went "aww, congratulations" as well. It feels a bit more real now Grin

Cannot feckin wait til the scan. I'll defo blub! Going to bell them tomorrow, they were closed when we got out the surgery this eve

Forgot to ask the Dr if I can go to the Philippines in November. Suspect it'll be a no cos of the flights (think I'm covered for jabs by my last trip to Asia)

So glad I have you ladies to share all this with, I'd be climbing the walls!! Wink

MissMedusa · 18/09/2012 08:07

I think you should still be able to fly in November. I think it's around 6 months that they don't want you to anymore. It also depends on the airline but either way November should be fine.

HaveALittleFaith · 18/09/2012 08:10

Yes the flying is ok, you'll just need to ask about the jabs Cherry.

I'm glad I've got today off, I'm absolutely wiped out! The pain is tolerable so I guess the antibiotics are doing their job.

Fluffeh · 18/09/2012 17:27

Had my booking appt today and it was really helpful. The obstetrician I was seeing told me that the elcs my neurosurgeon wanted me to have was needless. He wants it to stops my inter cranial pressure raising in labour and the obstetrician said that wasn't probable as I had no need to push as babies "push themselves out".
I spoke to the midwife about it today and she has given me a referral to a different obstetrician after agreeing with me the first woman's comment was ridiculous, yay!
I'm not nearly as scared as I was before it now. As I know now I'm not risking anything going wrong in labour.
She also gave us loads of information and just settled most of my worries.
I have the phone number of the scan arranging people to hopefully book the scan for oct 11th. All in all a good day. Now it's just a few weeks wait till I see my baby :).

GeordieCherry · 18/09/2012 17:28

Thanks for the flying tips Medusa & Faith

Read something about not flying in first trimester as it's dangerous... I'll be just into the second by then though. Looking forward to not feeling like a dishrag by the end of the day, and actually being able to take some exercise.

Have booked a travel clinic appointment with the nurse on 5 October so will find out then about jabs etc.

Booking in appointment with the midwife on 15 October :-D Don't think I'll get a scan then, from what they said on the phone, and it'd be too early then too, I'd only be 8 weeks. Only!

At least it's all happening.

How's your day ladies?

GeordieCherry · 18/09/2012 20:22

Help help help!!

I've got a sore throat & feeling achey & coldy. I'm usually a fan of hot whiskey & cold remedies

Read previously that paracetamol is ok during pregnancy so I took half the dose. Now I've read to not take anything without checking with a midwife first Sad Blush

What do you think?? Gutted

HaveALittleFaith · 18/09/2012 21:00

Paracetamol is fine, take a full dose. You shouldn't take any cold and flu remedies but try a slice of lemon in hot water with a teaspoon of honey instead of the whiskey and you use Vicks etc (I think, just double check!). Treat yourself to some Balsam tissues :) hope you feel better soon.

I'm feeling lots better since I started the antibiotics and I'm not being as sick. I think I was more dehydrated than I realised!

8+4 today :)

GeordieCherry · 18/09/2012 21:24

Thank you Faith Blush

It's the sore throat start of a cold feeling & I didn't want it to get any worse. I usually go straight for the echinacea, ibuprofen, garlic, zinc & vit c. If it sticks around I go for the hot toddy

I've got lemons & honey so I'll take them to work tomorrow & load up on even more veggies & garlic

5+1 Smile

Meeting a friend for lunch tomorrow & I think she might have some baby news for me. Glad I can be totally Grin about someone's news & not Envy

If she asks I'll tell her; we know the other is ttc

Bedtime. Super tired. Again. Happy as thoughWink

twinklingelephant · 19/09/2012 08:24

Hi ladies. Good to read all your posts.
Well, after feeling pretty unwell for the last 4 days and a colleague commenting on my nausea yesterday (we have 2 colleagues just given birth & another due soon), I just did a pg test this morning - and its positive!
Having been off the pill since Christmas I guess I shouldn't be surprised but I don't think myself or my husband really thought anything was happening as we haven't exactly been actively trying round dates or anything. Probably being a teacher meant I was more chilled out in the summer holidays so it happened!
I've been having period like cramps for about 2-3 weeks now, and headaches and exhaustion since saturday. I thought it was a bug and had monday off work. Yesterday went in, complete exhaustion, headaches all day and nausea until mid morning when it suddenly switched off. Reading all your posts this sounds pretty normal. Although the achey belly does feel like I'm going to have my period. Maybe I should get checked out? I have another test so I'm going to do that later. I don't have a dr at the moment (we moved house in May) so I need to get that sorted too I guess.
Off work again today, mainly cos feeling so rough and then after doing the test this morning I think my husband and I (is DH the right abbreviation?) need some time to let it all sink in too.
Then... I need to find some ways of coping with tummy pain, head aches, and nausea whilst teaching. I am a music teacher and have an hour of hymn practice to get through first thing tomorrow morning!
Oh, and how early have you guys told people at work? I think maybe I should tell someone (deputy head?) just so someone knows if something happens to me whilst I'm there?
Sorry for the long post, first time on this site, first time to have a positive pregnancy test. and slightly freaking out!!!! x

HaveALittleFaith · 19/09/2012 09:10

Hi twinklingelephant! Welcome to Mumsnet and this thread!

Sounds like you're very early days! I've had the period like cramps all the way along - I'm 8 weeks now. I told people at work fairly early on because I'm a nurse and it requires lots of moving and handling. I've also been very sick so is been difficult to hide! You do need to register with a GP so they can get you under the care of a midwife. I wonder if some of your symptoms are dehydration? My MW yesterday said you need to drink twice as much when you're pregnant Shock

Yes DH is the right abbreviation!

laurajane89 · 19/09/2012 10:46

Hi i had a miscarriage in the middle of july this year at 8 weeks. I was soo desperate for a baby we started trying straight away and i am now happy to say i had 3 postive tests yesterday and im about 4+2 pregnant Smile x

laurajane89 · 19/09/2012 10:46

But also very nerves x

WeatherWitch · 19/09/2012 14:36

Hello everyone! 8+2 today after 18 months of TTC - scared even to start posting on here in case it jinxes it... Due date either 30 Apr or 01 May depending on whether you believe the MW or doctor, one of whom factored in my 30 day cycle and the other said it made no difference, so I'm dithering over joining either the April or May 2013 threads. So glad I'm not the only one sitting here wondering if something is going to go wrong - could send myself mad if I wasn't careful.

twinklingelephant · 19/09/2012 14:51

Thanks HaveALittleFaith, it could well be partly dehydration. I know I'm pretty rubbish at drinking enough, particularly when I'm at work.
I've found a surgery I like the look of too so I'm going to go and register this afternoon. See how soon I can make it all official!

HaveALittleFaith · 19/09/2012 15:05

I was a bit shocked - Monday I got sudden onset back pain that's was agonising. My GP advised me to go to A&E, after a long wait I was diagnosed with a UTI that had tracked up to my kidney. When they tested me they said I was very dehydrated. I was a bit Shock because I generally drink a lot. But yes twice as much as normal - which might be a challenge to the who don't drink that much! Good work finding a practice, hope getting registered goes smoothly.

HaveALittleFaith · 19/09/2012 15:06

Oh and welcome laura. I know it's scary! Will you get more support and an early scan this time round?

fertilityFTW · 19/09/2012 15:55

How're you feeling today Geordie? You have all my sympathies as I'm just coming out of the other end of this awfulness. Warm salt water gargles throughout the day, including first thing morning, last at night - and tons of honey laced ginger lemon tea and orange juice! Also the paracetemol - spoke to chemist et al and was told to take recommended dose throughout the day - keeps any temp down, and will help body rest and recover. Big hugs, it felt like the worst thing ever since it coincided with the BFP! A dark lining on the silver cloud, but almost rid now!
twinkling and faith I'm finding I am incredibly, incredibly thirsty, I seem to perpetually have some cup of (fruit)tea/juice/water etc. stuck to my lips (makes the bathroom run quite frequent though!

TremoloGreen · 19/09/2012 16:03

Hi all - welcome newcomers Smile

I'm really thirsty too, had terrible dry mouth yesterday. I reckon I'm managing about 3 litres of water a day, peeing non-stop though! I moved into week 5 today, so lots of development happening this week, probably extra important to stay hydrated! Is anyone else obsessed with reading about how the baby is developing each week, or am I just a nerd?

So I'm on an overnight flight to Bangkok tonight, compression stockings at the ready! Slightly dreading managing jet lag and pregnancy fatigue on a business trip, not to mention hiding the fact I'm not drinking alcohol or coffee from my colleagues Confused I just hope it all goes OK!!

twinklingelephant · 19/09/2012 16:34

so nice to have people to chat to in a similar boat as it were! yes, now I'm thinking about it I am very thirsty! Found a lovely looking clinic - but they shut at 1 on wednesday! typical. I can register online though which is useful and they have surgery til 6.30 weekdays and on saturday mornings so that will be helpful.
Just did test no2 to make sure of this morning's diagnosis - another positive. DH took a look at them - think it's made it real to him now! I have a (only slightly) freaked out husband!

fertilityFTW · 19/09/2012 16:44

What kind of 'freaked out'ness are your other halves exhibiting?
Mine's been oddly distant and of little (and very grudging) help :(
