Just looking for like-minded ladies who are also new at this weird and wonderful thing to share my terror joy...

Feeling good so far at 5+3 although obv very early days and so much talk of miscarriage on this forum that it can become a little scary. Huge sympathy for anyone who's had a miscarriage, btw.

But thought I'd ask:

*how long had you been trying?
*how far along are you (if you know)?
*how are you feeling? Symptoms etc
*who have you told?
*are you, like me, rabidly Googling EVERYTHING?

HazleNutt sounds like we're pretty damn similar. I'm 33, this was our third month of trying and loads of my friends and family had awful problems conceiving.
You're about the same stage as me too, aren't you? I'm 5+5 today.
Interesting to hear morning sickness has kicked in! Am feeling queasy but no actual upheaval....yet.

Beaver, I think I should be around 5 weeks yes, although my cycle is longer than normal, so those calculators that take this into account say I'm 4 something.

Still spotting a bit, of course started reading all about ectopics and miscarriage. I think I should better go see my GP tomorrow, just in case. A bit scary, so many things that can go wrong..

MelCGox · 12/09/2012 14:00

Hi ladies,

My husband and I decided we wouldn't actively 'try' to concieve, but wouldn't 'prevent' so to speak, and just carry on as normal so we didn't put pressure on ourselves. That was a couple of weeks ago.
For the last week I'd been feeling exhausted and sore boobs. Thought there's no way I could be pregnant this quickly, but did a test incase (had a night out planned and thought i better check so I didn't run the risk of pickling the foetus!) the test came back with a really faint line. Spent the next day googling it (sounds like im not the only one doing this!!) and thought its probably just an evaporation line... But better get a digi test to double check. That came back as 'Pregnant'. Still didn't believe it so did another test. Yes, again...pregnant!!! And now I've missed my period.
I can't really believe how quickly it has happened, and although I realise how lucky we are after reading other peoples struggles, I'm quite shocked!! My head can't keep up with what's going on in my body!
This is first preg for us and were not really sure what were supposed to do! I've read some books but now it's actually happening I feel a bit freaked out!
Called the midwife and they said they just do a scan at 12 weeks, I don't need to do anything before this (other then stay healthy). Has anyone else had any check ups/ scans before 12 weeks..?? Seems like so long to wait to check everything is ok.

MissMedusa · 12/09/2012 14:05

I think it depends on where you are. I'm 5 weeks today and will have my first scan tomorrow.

MelCGox · 12/09/2012 14:30

Very jealous you get a scan so early!

MissMedusa · 12/09/2012 15:15

I think as long as you're not high risk, it's fine to wait. Not sure how much they can even see at this point but of course it's nice to have the reassurance.

proudmomofone · 12/09/2012 15:28

49 days past last period. Three neg test. Crampin sore burning nipples really tired heart burn I pee a lot more moody

TremoloGreen · 12/09/2012 17:18

Hi all and congratulations!! Grin I got my BFP yesterday and two more today. I think I'm 4+1 so very early. We've been trying for a year, I have PCOS and we were waiting for a referral to a fertility clinic when I found out. I have to say that I mostly felt shock and disbelief when the line appeared - immediately started crying and asked DH to confirm that what I was seeing was real!

I feel like I shouldn't get too excited at this stage, because I don't know how I'll cope if it doesn't work out. I'm trying to stay positive and calm and to be honest, it's not too hard as I don't really feel pregnant yet... my only symptoms are that I have a really low tolerance for hunger (feel very sick instantly) and I'm a little more tired.

I have googled tons of stuff too, basically didn't get any work done yesterday. I have to say that I found most of it reassuring, although I deliberately avoided anything scary - I'm sure I won't maintain that level of self-discipline for long!

I've decide to book myself an early scan at 7 weeks or so as I hope that will put my mind at rest. I don't plan to tell anyone until after the 12-week scan, although I have a feeling I will cave and tell my best friend on Saturday. She's 7 months pregnant with her first baby and has been with me through my whole ttc saga so I think she would be a supportive person.

TremoloGreen · 12/09/2012 17:21

MelCGox, I don't think you can guarantee you'll see anything until 7 weeks or so. I don't think you'll get a scan on the NHS unless there's a medical reason but you can get one privately for about £150 if that's something you would consider?

speedyboots · 12/09/2012 17:31

Congratulations to new joiners. Nice to know I'm not the only one googling everything. Still knicker-checking a lot too. I felt pretty sick last week but it's gone again now - apparently (thanks google!) it's normal for it to come and go so I'm trying to eat lots now in preparation for it coming back. It's definitely for that reason, not because I'm greedy.

medusa - thanks, I have seen that site and luckily I have some friends here who have already had a baby here so can tell me what to do. My gynaecologist is lovely, so that's a good start. How good is your German? Mine is ok but when I'm nervous it all goes wrong so I'm hoping to find an English-speaking midwife.

Fluffeh · 12/09/2012 21:44

Hi I'm 7 +4 and can't wait for my first scan but we don't even have the first midwife appt until Tuesday.
From the dates we've been given it looks like we got pregnant on the first try. Which shocked me but even more so my obstrician and endocrinologist who were just putting fertility clinic referrals together because of my pcos.
It's going to be a closely monitored pregnancy as I have a huge amount of medical problems and have had to stop taking most of my medication but I know it'll be worth it in the end.

MissMedusa · 13/09/2012 08:23

speedy my German is fine so it's not a problem under normal circumstances but I can imagine it deteriorating rapidly in a stress situation. Thankfully most medical professionals should have some grasp of English in case I completely blank on my German.

I have my first scan today and I'm so excited. DH and I had decided to put off celebrating until we get it confirmed by the doctor and today is that day. I'll report back if there's any news (good or bad).

MissMedusa · 13/09/2012 10:12

Has anyone got suggestions for a good pregnancy journal? I'm looking for something I can keep track of appointments, symptoms, nutrition and maybe write a few thoughts in.

Paradisefound · 13/09/2012 14:28

Hi I'm new here. Will be 9 weeks on Saturday. Been trying to conceive for 10 months, didn't think it would happen as I'm 36 and my menstrual cycle is 77 days long !! No fertility drugs taken. I had an early scan at 7 weeks as I was admitted to hospital due to hyperemesis .. I couldn't keep anything down week 5-7 and ended up dangerously dehydrated. It was amazing to see the baby, so tiny, gratefully in the right location and with a strong heartbeat. I'm still sick several times a day and spend most of the time in bed as I have no energy. I was back in hospital again last weekend and despite the meds I 'm sure I'll be back in there again! I had no idea that being pregnant could make you so ill. Everyone in my family knows, hard to hide my obvious ill health. Next scan 7th oct... Fingers crossed x

AuntyDiluvian · 13/09/2012 15:33

Hi all (and especially Beaver) - I'm in Week 7 and my situation's just like yours MelCGox. Thought it could take ages to conceive so as we're both in our 30s, why not try now rather than wait until we have stupid life/home/finance stuff in order - and oh hello pregnancy. Obviously I feel extremely lucky but also totally daunted and time is dragging to scans until I hope I can get more excited!
So hi everyone and good luck with all scans/appointments.

hopeful92 · 13/09/2012 15:37

TremoloGreen I know how you feel about not wanting to get too excited, I got my BFP on Monday and four more and it just doesn't feel real yet. I have my first appointment with the Midwife she is coming to my house on Monday so that wil make it feel more real I guess!

Can anoyone tell me what happens at a first appointment with your midwife? Do they confirm your pregnancy with a test? My doctors surgery said they don't do pregnancy testing and I had to see midwife so I'm slightly confused as to what she's gonna do at my house? Nervous! x

paddycat1 · 13/09/2012 16:13

Hi i'm in the early stages to and am either 7 weeks or 5 weeks depending whether you count from conception or from date of last period!!! I have had nausea and wanting to wretch at most smells, sore boobs, twinges in my sides at night. Excited yet scared at the same time as I also do not want to miscarry and due to being 40 I would like a normal pregnancy. Been trying for 18 months and found success after following The Fertility Plan book. Had my first midwife appointment yesterday and terrified of the combined test but best to be forwarned and armed or whatever the saying is. Congrats to one and all.

HaveALittleFaith · 13/09/2012 18:32

Hello all yes I'm 7+6 after 2 years 8 months of TTC. Another one who had been trying for ages but was a bit Shock when it actually happened! I was losing weight to get my BMI under 30. I'd just achieved if when I got my BFP!
I am feeling rough! Oh so tired. Sickness comes and goes - worse the last few days. Yes I do carry a sick bag with me, certainly to work! I had an hour's drive Tuesday and I took a plastic bin in the car in case I couldn't pull over quickly enough! :) Confused oh and the constipation! I have had to get the GP to prescribe me lactulose to get things moving. What fun!

hopeful I had my booking in appointment. She went through my medical history and DH's, talked about relevant family history, weighed me (BMI was 29, yay!) and did my blood pressure. She talked through when each appointment and scan would be and reassured me considering it had taken so long for us to get me pregnant!

otterpop · 13/09/2012 20:51

Hi everyone, can I join in? My first ever mumsnet post (though I've lurked for a bit now!), making it seem more real! I was lucky enough to get pregnant first time last month, was rather shocked to get a positive result straight away like that to say the least! I'm 5+4 today, only found out last Monday and am very excited and happy. I'm feeling a bit nervous this week as I had some brown discharge, like when your period is starting (sorry, TMI!) on Monday whilst at work, and period pain like cramps had actually woken me up that morning. I phoned my GP who was lovely and has booked me in at the EPU next Thursday for an early scan (they won't be able to see anything before then apparently) to check all is well, and reassured me lots that many women get early bleeding like this.
Symptoms so far: sore boobs (I'm already in non-underwired bras cos my normal ones were killing me!),feeling a bit dizzy if I stand up too fast, tiredness, hideous mouth ulcers (apparently common in pregnancy, yep, I've been googling everything!) and constipation: I am not the most glamourous person at the moment!

GeordieCherry · 13/09/2012 22:46

Hopeful I'm a 'graduate' of the same ttc thread as you. Nice to see a name I recognise!

Bfp on Tuesday so very early days for us. Super excited

Would like to join a thread where I can chat for the next few weeks before we can share our happy news

Told my sister (thrilled) & DP's Mum (non-responsive). Also the acupuncture lady who helped! And my personal trainer so I can avoid anything that might compromise the wee bean sticking around

Bed time now. Rather tired & a bit queasy today. And very windy Blush

Callipygian · 14/09/2012 19:40

I'm 7+2, feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness.. We weren't exactly trying, we took a risk knowing we want a baby within the next few years and have enough money to support a baby. Period didn't come and what do you know :p Husband is pretty chuffed that he's in working order.

We have told DH's parents and my Dad, my Mum is coming to stay with us this weekend so we're waiting to tell her in person (they're not together).

I have had slight nausea in the middle of the day but no "morning" sickness. Main symptom is that my boobs have got so big that i'm worried they might knock me off orbit with the earth. Desperately want to go swimming but my costume wont fit now as it was already snug on my chest, not sure when the best time will be to invest in a pregnancy costume.

GeordieCherry · 15/09/2012 09:45

My 'morning' sickness is in the evening Calli. Defo helps to eat a few smaller things through the day

Went to a party last night & one of my friends guessed. Me not drinking was a right giveaway!! And then looking a bit green. She's got 2 so understands (& knew we were trying) Think others knew too but didn't say

Super tired, freezing cold & sore boobs. Not feeling bad other than that & the evening queasiness

Can't wait to tell people though & work out what I can wear

Dr tomorrow so hoping to get a few things sorted, not least a scan date Grin

How's everyone else?

Callipygian · 15/09/2012 12:20

Ah yes, i've been cold too GC, fortunately the weather is looking up today!

Good luck at the doctors, i was a bit underwhelmed with our first visit to the GP. I drank my weight in water expecting a confirmatory pee test but nothing, no blood pressure check, no blood test. She just asked me to pick a hospital and told me what i can't eat.

I've had a couple of work events where there has been a lot of booze that ive had to avoid. I've gone with the "the wine at these events always gives me headaches" excuse. Didn't convince many on the day but the morning after lots of people said the wished that they had followed my lead.

hopeful92 · 15/09/2012 19:02

GeordieCherry Ah yes so nice to see a familiar name :D Congratulations! Looks like we will be due around the same time as I got my BFP Monday!! Still don't dare get excited in case anything goes wrong.

Been getting some symptoms this week. Been very very tired which is unusual for me as I usually have lots of energy! Been falling asleep on the settee very night! Been feeling very nauseated at night time as well which is annoying! Boobs a bit achey - painful when knocked etc. Been getting dizzy spells at work as well which is odd and not very good as I work in a job where I am on my feet rushing around all day - I really don't know how I am going to cope at work when I get a big bump as I work in a bakery and am constantly having to bend n stuff!

fertilityFTW · 15/09/2012 20:35

Oh, this is a perfect thread, I was getting a bit lost on the May one and searching for first-timers as well!

I'm 34 and have been TTC for what would have been 3 years this December - and we got our confirmation at our long awaited fertility clinic appointment! I had sore boobs and cramps - waved a few sticks in wee and had a faint line (did it every day for three days and incredulously watched them getting stronger.
GP appt next week and a scan in 3 weeks (think we're very early on, about 4wks).

Been worried about every single googlable thing! Right now petrified about MC as clinic doc said 1 in 4 pregnancies (I'm assuming at my age) don't end well. Eep. Trying to balance anxiety and excitement, anxiety winning so far.

Good luck to everyone!
