Just looking for like-minded ladies who are also new at this weird and wonderful thing to share my terror joy...

Feeling good so far at 5+3 although obv very early days and so much talk of miscarriage on this forum that it can become a little scary. Huge sympathy for anyone who's had a miscarriage, btw.

But thought I'd ask:

*how long had you been trying?
*how far along are you (if you know)?
*how are you feeling? Symptoms etc
*who have you told?
*are you, like me, rabidly Googling EVERYTHING?

Hi all Ive just found out I'm pregnant about four weeks, just missed my period what is 5+3??:)

GeordieCherry · 16/09/2012 00:23

FTW same here re: the worries. Although I read mc risk was 1 in 8. I'm aware of every twinge!

Aw, hope the Dr gives us an e.d.a. I worked out 21 May from on here & NHS Choices website. I'd like a scan date as well & to know if there's a midwife led birth unit here

I've recently moved so this will be my first visit to this GP. Hope I like them!

Spent faaaar too long on my feet today. Fell asleep in the cinema & then back at home pretty much as soon as I sat down

Need to go to mil's tomorrow & really cba. She's quite a negative person. I'd much rather be on my own getting ready for the week ahead

Hopeful you been to the Doc's yet?

fertilityFTW · 16/09/2012 09:51

GeordieCherry I think I'm around the same EDA as you - according to my own calculations anyway, will know more after scan in a few weeks. I thin the 1 in 4 figure was based on my being practically 35 - just goes up the older you get :(
Hope MIL trip is minimally disruptive, stay in your own head, I'm sure there plenty to keep you occupied in there and you can filter her out and daydream Wink
Hope you have a more restful week.

hopeful92 My mum's been calling everyday begging me not to bend over or pick up anything - I'm having to explain that I can't exactly manage to lie prone on the bed for the next few months :) hope you can minimise all the exertion and get some feet up time!

Callipygian A bit bummed to hear there was no fanfare at GP's - I have my appt next Thursday and was hoping for lots of drama, some excitement or in the very least a drum-roll and streamers Confused

GeordieCherry · 16/09/2012 10:12

FTW I am 35 Grin

Haven't told my Mum & Dad yet. It's more likely Dad who'll be telling me to take it easy. Mum's more practical

The house really needs a proper clean. I'm planning on doing the oven wearing a decorator's mask!

I might take a pg book to mil's & just read that if I need to not be hearing her for a min or two...

Get our food organised & clothes I can wear for the week & the house cleaned. That's all I want to have achieved today!

Fx for a cheerful Doc tomorrow. (I'll be cheerful anyway; I'd originally booked it as a "why aren't we pg yet?" appointment Grin)

hopeful92 · 16/09/2012 11:29

GeordieCherry No docs yet as they told me to go straight to midwife when i tried to book an appointment?! Midwife is coming to my house for first appointment tomorrow morning im very nervous as im overweight and feel im going to get a lecture on it :( I eat healthily though and walk a lot. Hopefully shes nice..

hopeful92 · 16/09/2012 11:31

Oh and what does 5+3 mean?

GeordieCherry · 16/09/2012 16:06

Hopeful how many weeks are you? Wondering if they'll direct us straight to midwife...

HaveALittleFaith · 16/09/2012 16:08

hopeful it means weeks+days so I'm 8 weeks 2 days (from date of last monthly period) so I'm 8+2. Managed a 4.5k walk with DH which was nice in the sunshine. Tired now though!

MelCGox · 16/09/2012 17:23

Faith...I did 4.5 mile walk today too. Was good to stretch my legs and was just the right distance that I enjoyed it without tiring myself out. Im 4+5 so still quite early but tiredness-then-insomnia has already kicked in, so hoping the fresh air has done me good ready for a week at work. Nobody at work knows so having to 'act normal' even though I'm bursting to tell!!!

GeordieCherry · 16/09/2012 18:42

Oh I wish we'd gone for a walk today. Or the yoga at the gym I'd planned into my day

Nope. Spent a frustrating afternoon at mil's. She & dp got at each other the whole time. We moved some of her furniture, took some rubbish to the tip. And she never asked about the bean or said Congratulations once. Pfffft

Anyway, had a yummy tea (although well done steak remains an abomination) & going to watch Strictly on catch up. Then bath & early night

7 weeks feel like a realllllly long time til we can officially tell people

HaveALittleFaith · 16/09/2012 18:56

Yes the walk was good actually. I got all stressed out about that state of the house (even though it wasn't really that bad) as we started walking. DH was about to race hme to do stuff but I said no and insisted we walk. By the end of the walk I felt loads better and had things back in perspective. When we got home we had a quick rest (it was tiring!) and then got a fair bit done. I feel tonnes better now! Grin I blame the hormones!

Sorry to hear it was difficult at your MIL's Geordie! Sounds like a nightmare.

TremoloGreen · 16/09/2012 19:17

Hi all - I too went for quite a long walk, traipsed round the shops buying some comfortable bras because my boobs have turned to rock this weekend! Then zonked out for an hour or two at home because I was exhausted :-)

GeordieCherry MIL sounds like a PITA. I'm slightly dreading the first visit after we tell mine... they're lovely but I forsee a massive over-involvement/ trying to buy us masses of stuff we want to choose ourselves going on!

I agree that well-done steak is an abomination as were the hard-cooked eggs I had for brunch today!!

So I'm going to the doctors for the booking in appointment tomorrow morning. Is there anything I should ask/ be prepared for? I'd quite like to ask them to do some blood tests for progesterone because I had all sorts of tests when I was trying to conceive and they showed I had low progesterone post-ovulation Confused Has anybody else got any experience like this (with PCOS or similar?)

hopeful92 · 16/09/2012 20:10

GeordieCherry I only got my BFP last Monday so Im only between 4 and 5 weeks so not very far!

HaveALittleFaith · 16/09/2012 20:44

My booking in the midwife took a medical history from me and DH (will be keeping an eye on me due to a history of depression!) and family history. Talked me through appointments and scans. So far I've had full blood count and fasting blood glucose done (because I'm overweight), I go for more bloods Tuesday now I've reached 8 weeks. I don't know what they'll actually do though!

GeordieCherry · 16/09/2012 20:47

Tremolo I also need new bras. Can only fit into 2 proper ones & then the sports bras Blush. Hahaha!

Hopeful we're nearly bfp twins! Af due last Monday & tested Tuesday. Man, that's been a long week!!

Aye, mil is indeed a pita. Can't wait to tell people who'll be giddy & excited with us. My sister's been lovely but lives near Newcastle still. Pffffft

I have a list for the Dr: scan dates, any tests we should have, confirmation of eda, when do I meet a midwife, any do's & don'ts I haven't read yet, birth options where we live (pref a midwife led birth unit as dp has vetoed a home birth), let the Dr know about medical histories of our families. All in 7.5 mins yeah?? Grin

GeordieCherry · 16/09/2012 20:48

Faith I'll be mentioning my mental health history too ( or just wear short sleeves...)

Mabsey · 16/09/2012 20:54

Hi all
I am 5 +2 now so very early. It is the first one and have been trying for four months so feel very blessed.

We have told parents and a couple of close friends but want to keep in quiet as long as possible. We have my husbands 40 th birthday coming up in a few weeks time. Everyone will now something is up if I am sipping orange juice. Does anyone have any advice?

I feel uncomfortable denying it but don't want everyone to know in case something happens.

TremoloGreen · 16/09/2012 21:12

Mabsey A few tips on hiding not drinking... make yourself soft drinks that look like spirit and mixer, be seen holding a glass of wine then pass it to your husband and if anyone asks, tell them you're on antibiotics Grin

HaveALittleFaith · 16/09/2012 21:17

Or do a spritzer, with hardly any wine in it? You can carry an alcoholic drink without drinking it. Is it a family party at home or are you going out?

GeordieCherry · 16/09/2012 21:18

Mabsy could you drink something that looks like booze? Add a lime slice to soda or tonic & no-one will be any the wiser. Make yourself scarce for shots & always have a drink in hand so you can refuse any offers

I feel like if someone guesses I won't deny it as I'm quite superstitious & don't want the bean to bugger off cos I've denied it's there Blush

I was caught on Saturday night but that friend will keep our secret & act surprised when I can finally say

Seeing some other friends next weekend who will defo ask. Especially as they know we're trying & I'll be refusing a glass of fizz at the Spa day!

GeordieCherry · 16/09/2012 21:19

Sorry MabsEy

LikeCandy · 17/09/2012 07:25

Hello all, I'm on the April thread but thought I'd pop in and say hi.
I am 11w+2d pregnant, and we found out at 4+5. The last few weeks have been unbelievable.
From 5 to 7 weeks I had some bleeding, from bright pink to dark brown, I was terrified, a very early internal scan showed a heartbeat which put us a little more at ease.
I've had all day nausea, lack of appetite, sore nipples, change in taste / smell, spots, bloating, my hair has been coming out in clumps - but everything seems to have settled now. I can deal with spots and bloating, which seem to be the only symptoms I'm left with!

The m/w appointment was fine, family history, blood test, pee sample - nothing too exciting!

Both sets of parents know, my bosses know, and a few of DH friends, but than that we're waiting until we go visit family (about 15weeks) to announce to everyone - I can't wait!

I still have to wait until next Friday for our 12w scan (which will be the day before I am 13w!) and I am so impatient for it!!

I am loving being pregnant, and can't wait to have a bump to rub and talk too! Enjoy it ladies xx

MissMedusa · 17/09/2012 10:28

I had my first scan last week at what I thought was 5+1 and the dr. couldn't see anything which had me in a complete panic all weekend. I had bloods taken Thursday and Friday to see whether they were increasing and another scan this morning. It turns out the HCG levels were increasing and this morning we were able to see a small sac. The dr. put me back a few days at 5+3 so somehow I must have conceived (or implanted) a little later than I thought which is odd as I was using opk's and temping. Anyway I kind of wish I hadn't bothered with the early scan as I could have saved myself so much worry. I'm back again on Thursday for another but I kind of wish I could just leave it alone for a while and enjoy being pregnant without worrying about every little sign that isn't in line with the norm.

sgibbo · 17/09/2012 14:01

Hi Mabsey another idea on the drink front if you are going out for the celebration would be 'I drew the short straw and have to drive' that one seems to be working for me at the moment
