High HCG but nothing found on scan? :(

So my last period was the 10th of june.
I have a 30 day cycle and ovulate around day 21. I went to A&E last wednes day (18th june) with water infection. They tested my pee and it was clear.
They booked me a scan for last friday (20th june)..they did internal scan and nothing was seen in my womb or tubes i had bloods and they came back at 2483...they are saying that a sac should at least be seen when levels are at 1500. im so confused, how am i pregnant yet there is nothing there? i now have to wait for friday for a rescan. this is my fourth pregnancy

I repeated my hcg 48 hours later and it went up to 900. I then went home and yesterday I started spotting brown discharge, so I went to the hospital, again they couldn’t see anything on the scan but the consultant thought she could see the start of a gestational sac and rebooked me for a scan next Friday 03/02/2023. My hcg levels yesterday was over 2000 but still nothing seen on the scan. I’m petrified I’m worrying non stop and I’m still having brown discharge! Can anyone help x

It’s torture but all you can do is wait for the scan. See above for my post that shows that over 2000 hcg isn’t necessarily the end of the road - they saw nothing at 2600 for me and said to expect the worst as they said in almost all cases they can see something with this level, and now I’m 32 weeks pregnant with that pregnancy. I had brown spotting as well. At the same time I had a similar experience with my first pregnancy without having my hcg tested and eventually brown spotting turned into bleeding and loss. I have my fingers crossed for you and hope it works out into a healthy pregnancy. Be kind to yourself until you have that next scan xx

Yes I was told my pregnancy was likely ectopic, or a “pregnancy of unknown location” I think they said.
basically I think brown discharge tells you absolutely nothing!
Yes it was brown coloured, discharge like not flowing. One day quite a lot (almost a “flow”, then it varied for a week or two. It was the same as previous miscarried pregnancies so brown discharge tells you nothing. I was convinced I had lost another one as it was so similar. But this one never turned red. I only had any pain when the red blood came with the losses.

Brown discharge doesn't always mean something bad it can be old blood or implantation. I had it with my 1st he's almost 14 now, the midwife said its not something they're really concerned with I'm early pregnancy unless it comes with pain or changes to fresh blood.

My 3rd pregnancy my Hcg was 3499 so after having pains they booked me in for a scan 72 hours later but it showed nothing, my levels were 14592 so they suspected ectopic I went to surgery being told i was having my ovary and pregnancy taken away, woke up and was told my ovaries were clear and they didn't know what was going on. 2 days later got my bloods checked before I was discharged and they were at 25698. I was booked in for a scan 2 weeks later. On the scan day at first she couldn't see anything so looked at blood supply and found a heartbeat, my son has is 3 now. They never could explain what happened, one MW said I may have been pregnant with twins and was too early to see anything and potentially one was absorbed early on which may be why my levels were really high but showing nothing on scans.

I hope all goes well. I know it's hard but try to be kind to yourself. Taking it day by day until you have your scan and I really do hope you're ok xx

I had first scan today at 6w1d where very small sac aroud 2 mm was seen but that they could not say if its gestational sac. They took B-hcg blood test which is around 34000 so what it should be around 7 weeks. Anyone had experienced something similar but able to have successful pregnancy.

Yes my hormones were always higher than what could be seen on my scans the day I was rushed for surgery my hormones were 25698 they thought i had an ectopic pregnancy because nothing could be seen on the scan. Never really got told the cause but I have a beautiful healthy 4 year old son now.

I hv been devastated since yesterday.I’m supposedly 6+4 days pregnant today went for TV scan yesterday n been told they can’t see anything at all.Just an empty sac with unknown location of pregnancy.I am 42.6 years old hv a 16 years old son n had a miscarriage last year very early.I am absolutely petrified to hear the news n so scared.I have a hospital appointment on wed the bloods n further investigation.Never checked my hcg levels n I’m on pregesterone pessaries(400mgx2)too as my progesterone was too low n end up in miscarriage.Has anyone had a similar experience?Sonographer said there could be 3 reasons.1. I’m too early for the scan 2. Had an early miscarriage. 3.Ectopic..I’m bleeding,no pain at all.I can’t be early as I’m tracking everything on ‘FLO’ n tracked my ovulation too I know when I ovulated.Could anyone help pls?Thanks ♥️

Brown discharge doesn't always mean something bad it can be old blood or implantation. I had it with my 1st he's almost 14 now, the midwife said its not something they're really concerned with I'm early pregnancy unless it comes with pain or changes to fresh blood.

Yes my hormones were always higher than what could be seen on my scans the day I was rushed for surgery my hormones were 25698 they thought i had an ectopic pregnancy because nothing could be seen on the scan. Never really got told the cause but I have a beautiful healthy 4 year old son now.

I went for a scan with my son due to pains and nothing was seen even though my hormones suggested I was at a stage in pregnancy where a scan should see baby. They thought it was an ectopic pregnancy so I was rush to surgery. After I woke up from surgery they informed me they couldn't find the baby so left me to see what would happen, 2 weeks later I went for another scan initially they couldn't see anything on external/internal scan, she then put the blood flow/heart beat on and found my son right at the back of my womb, apparently I have a tilt (which I didn't know about) and he was hidden. I never really got told why my hormones levels were so high but I have a beautiful healthy 4 year old son now. Wishing you lots of positivity ✨️

Sorry to add I also track with Flo and was sure when I ovulated but they said can sometimes ovulate late one month like an anomaly and that could throw your dates by a few day to over a week which is a huge change in very early pregnancy x

Stacyb90 thanks for the reply lovely.I am glad it all turned out good for u 😊it’s horrible to hear’Ectopic’im just keeping the hope up.The reason I’m saying I knw when I ovulated cos I checked with ovulation test n it told me when I was ovulating.I really hope that im just too early to see my baby on the scan.Have a EPU appointment tmrw for the blood n more tests crossing everything 🤞

They said mine was likely ectopic too and I was terrified. But at the third scan… there she was! And now she’s a 6 month old asleep on me. Fingers crossed for you, it’s so hard xx

I remember each day being so hard, literally counting down the hours to the scan, over analysing every little twinge I felt. I don’t think there’s anything I can say other than that you just have to be strong and ride it out; don’t punish yourself for worrying. I remember my husband telling me to forget about it for a few days but it’s just not possible! Do what you can to make yourself happier (chocolate?!) but it’s going to be hard until the scan and it could be hard afterwards (I’ve had this outcome before also.). You will get through it x

So I stumbled across this thread and it gives me hope but this is my story

found out I was pregnant Oct 6th via home pregnancy test. I wasn’t trying to get pregnant it just happened. So back story to my health I have PCOS and almost 2 years ago I had bariatric sleeve surgery. Even after the surgery my period is irregular but more frequent. Went from 277lbs to 208lbs

oct 6 I ran to urgent care to do blood work that came the next day at 18hcg
oct 11 I went to my OB for more blood work and my HCg came back 316. This day I start lightly bleeding. from then the obgyn said she didn’t think it was a viable pregnancy based on how far along she projected me to be
Oct 18 HCg 769 still light bleeding with clots
and still being told not likely viable and that I should consider termination and that I could be miscarry or eptopic. I had a pelvic exam and was told no dialation ( which would indicate miscarriage) but still not to rule it out

throughout the week I’ve had sore breast and lower back discomfort and two random days of cramps

Oct 20 HCg hit 919 still told not normal pregnancy and to terminate. And still bleeding going on two weeks

Today Oct 26 I was told my levels were at 2600 HCg but nothing was visible on my sonagram and that I Am believed to be having eptopic pregnancy. the blood flow today from my bleeding has lighten up today ALOT no clots no back discomfort

idk what to think as I’ve read some of these post and hoping for the best. I am going to wait it out week to week and see what happens. This would be my first pregnancy I’m 34yrs old

Good luck to you, I hope it turns out well. I don’t understand the advice to terminate when it’s not 100%…. Until it’s confirmed one way or another surely you’d just wait and see. Fingers crossed x

I know this is an old post but want to share my story so far too in case any other women find themselves in the same boat.

went for a scan yesterday at approx 5 weeks because of right hand side pain. Couldn’t find a sac or any pregnancy in my womb. Was diagnosed with pregnancy of unknown location. Said it could be possible ectopic because of an organised group of blood vessels at the edge of my uterus. Or could be ectopic somewhere elsewhere but couldn’t see it.

they took my HCG levels which came back 1,107 .. sonographer said she’d expect my levels to be around 700 right now if I was just early and said that it was concerning they didn’t see anything. I really didn’t feel that she is very compassionate towards me and it all just felt quite clinical. said that we have to wait and see to see what the results come back with after my next blood draw on Saturday.

I am feeling so worried with nerves.

It’s impossible not to worry and I wish you well. As I said in a previous post my HCG was around 2600 when they saw nothing on my scan and I was told it was “almost certainly” ectopic, pregnancy of unknown location etc. 4 days later they found sac in my uterus as it should be and now I have a healthy 1 year old.
maybe my case was the rarity but it just shows that there’s still hope. Good luck x
