I'm tossing and turning most nights, but find myself on my right more often than on my left as I get trouble with my right hip and it only eases if I lie on it...

Just been weighed today and I nearly died as I'm piling on 2lbs a week on average... not happy. I know my eating habits haven't been great, and with SPD making itself very much known, I'm not walking as much as I normally do, but for flip's sake! I'm really worried about putting on too much, and I can't pinpoint why!

I know putting on 1-2lb a week is supposedly ok, but I've worked so hard to lose weight I'm finding it very disheartening to see it piling all back on again, even though I know it's pretty much unavoidable at the weight/size I am. I'm curvy enough normally, but realisically if I don't put on much weight I will probably end up a walking pregnant skeleton.

forgot, again!

NeedlesCuties · 24/02/2012 14:02

Hello everyone!

danmoore When pregnant with DS I flew from Dublin to Aberdeen at 34 weeks pregnant! I think that is the cut-off week but no one in either airport spoke to me about being pregnant, nor asked to see a Dr's note (which I had got from the GP to make sure). I flew with Ryan Air and was pretty cramped and fed up by the time I got to Scotland, but all went well and I didn't go into labour, which was my dad's big fear Grin

This time round we have booked a hol to Portugal for April when I'll be around 22-23 weeks. Is a longer flight, but not crappy Ryan Air so will enjoy more leg room.

My advice is to get a medical 'fit for travel' letter from either your GP or midwife, and to get travel insurance! Some insurance companies only insure you up to a certain point, so you might need to shop around. Can't remember which one we used last time, sorry.

NeedlesCuties · 24/02/2012 14:02

Doh, I forgot too....

I am 15 weeks today :)

MrsMigginslovespies · 24/02/2012 14:36

Hi Dan. I'm an ovarian cyst old hand which is why I ultimately had IVF. But I'm not the norm, so don't worry. Mostly, they go away by themselves, but can take a wee while if they're large. They shouldn't be anything to worry about but they'll want to check yours isn't growing. Annoyingly, there's not a lot they can do about them (unless they become a big problem like mine were) but I'm sure you'll be fine but good they're keeping an eye on them. Does it hurt at all? How far along are you?

I'm 15+2 today and feeling bit chubby.

danmoore00 · 24/02/2012 15:12

Thanks Needlescuties - I'm glad to hear that you flew late into pregnancy - was starting to feel like a freak for wanting to fly so late! I will take your advice and get a fit to fly along with good insurance - brother's wedding in Spain so better had make an appearance! Enjoy your holiday in Portugal - bit of sunshine will be welcome at that point.

MrsMigginslovespies - Ovarian cysts - didn't know it was there until early scan??? It hadn't grown from week 8 to week 12 (well don't think it had as had scans at different hospitals and hard to work out there notes). Hope they don't grow - keep you posted at scan in 3 weeks.

I'm 14 wks tomorrow but too big for my jeans but my maternity jeans are falling down!!! Everyone just thinks I've been at the cream cakes - but feel like my belly and boobs might explode already!!!

Glad it's not just me that feels a little chubby - I had put on 8lbs at booking appt at 12 weeks - but am eating for 10 I think - it was the only way I could stop feeling sick in early days!

Thanks 4 advice

(13 + 6)

Westcountrylovescheese · 24/02/2012 16:57

Hi all. Just checking in. I'm 16+3 today and feeling fat. Look fat too, rather than any cute bump. Sad

Wore maternity trousers for the first time to work yesterday. I sit at a desk all day so my normal trousers are really starting to dig in. They were comfy but made me feel more fat! Sad

0FrillyKnickers0 · 24/02/2012 18:19

Hi all!

Re sleeping on left side...
...I spoke to my midwife about it because I had heard that sleeping on your right side could cause pressure on a blood vessel thing and be bad for baby...fable.

My MW said that it's fine to sleep on both sides and really doesn't make a difference. The only reason you can't lie on your back is because where our (pregnant women's) spines start to curve more, the pressure of the baby can actually make you faint! But she assured me that you'd wake up feeling funny first. But to be honest, the weight of the baby would become too uncomfortable before it got to that stage as it happens a lot later in pregancy. So, basically, don't worry!

Hi ladies happy Friday Grin

danm I flew to hong kong at 28 weeks, no problems.

Hope you all have lovely weekends! Envious of those slobbing! Looks like we'll have a lunch and a dinner out on sat then first bday sun! Tired @ the thought...

MrsLister · 24/02/2012 18:58

Ladies - out of curiosity how many of you are being 'good' when it comes to the food rules?

A colleague practically rugby tackled me to the ground when I was about to bite into a delicious slice of pizza with a semi-runny egg on it today (I had genuinely forgotten the egg ruke) and it made me really question myself.

So far I have avoided sushi (which I adore) despite the NHS website saying its fine (all UK fish should be frozen before it reaches us) and camembert, brie etc but I've eaten cured meat and runny eggs.

Just interested to hear how many of you are being good! :-)

I've also been having the odd glass of wine since turning 12 weeks.

Gingerelle · 24/02/2012 19:12

Hi techno and others- I had another midwife appt this morning and she said only need to worry about sleeping on left side towards the end of preg, and sleeping anyway is fine at the mo. Hurrah! I also had a student who was clearly keen to do some hands on so got to hear the heartbeat- so exciting! I don't think they always use the Doppler so early so it was a major bonus, hurrah for students!

Anyway hope you're all ok. I'm in bed trying to build up energy for a dinner out with DP....concerned I may drop off and land face first in the dinner I'm so tired- my mum is promising a resurgence in my energy soon but today clearly is not the day.

Happy Friday everyone!

Westcountrylovescheese · 24/02/2012 19:34

Mrslister, I cracked and had a runny fried egg (ok two) a week or so ago when I was ill. It was in date and had the lion mark so i figured it was ok. I do love them so much.... Also accidentally swallowed some well chewed (by me) chorizo.... and have had the odd wine squash (same as normal squash but using wine not ribena). Midwife said not to worry, and she wasn't worried, so feel ok about it. I think a lot of it is scaremongering and actually the NHS website is less scary than others, so am generally sticking to NHS advice. (p.s. the NHS say sushi from supermarket is fine)

Happy munching!

MrsLister · 24/02/2012 20:12

Thanks westcountry - and I agree the NHS website is less scary than others!

Tonight I shall mostly be eating fishfingers sandwiches and a fine selection of (allowed) cheeses whilst watching Drive on Blu-ray. MmmmmmmmRyanGosling...

Happy weekend all! :)

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 24/02/2012 20:20

Lots of posts to catch up on :)

I've not been feeling the best, not sure why. Think I might have picked up another bug. Have had a cracking heading since yesterday, hardly slept last night, and feel really rough last night.

Had to go to work though, but feel awful tonight - current temp 99.9f - when do I worry?
(sorry for moaning!)

MrsL I caved in last night and had a very small glass of wine, literally 100ml, it was after my Grandad's funeral so I thought I had a good reason, and I am now 16+6 so I didn't feel too bad about it.

Have steered clear of cured meats, but I've not stopped eating runny eggs. My MW said it was ok as long as in date/lion marked etc.. and no snotty white bits :)

Angel786 · 24/02/2012 20:45

mrslister have had a few glasses of wine a week, some sushi, medium steak, Brie ... All in moderation. Altho with dd I'd only have one small glass of wine an eve or two a week, this time I go large or sons times have two glasses Blush

poppy hope the funeral went aa well as it could x

Vinolover · 24/02/2012 20:54

I really cannot give up runny eggs and they are my weekend treat :) I make sure the white isn't snotty but the yolk just has to be runny! I also had the soft whippy ice cream the other day from Wimpy which was just delish!... I do feel bad about not eating very much fruit and veg but I just cannot stomach it at the moment, hopefully it will get better as the pregnancy progresses.

I hope the funeral went well Poppy.

susiegrapevine · 24/02/2012 22:04

Hello am new to the thread hopes it ok to join. Am due aug 21st with dc2. Am getting lots of spots too using a witch hazel face scrub and seem to have very dry skin on face and hands. Sickness had been gone for nearly 2 weeks but then started feeling really sick again this morn tho luckily was not sick! This baby seens to be nisbehaving more than my last as it gave me a bad back last week!

Tusa · 25/02/2012 08:11

Hey, I'm new and also due on 21st, Hey susiegrapevine!

This is my first and so far I've been phenomenally lucky. No morning sickness and few spells of feeling a bit dizzy/queazy but now at 14.5weeks I'm just feeling really good Blush and haven't really put on any weight - I had a highish BMI to start with so it's normal and healthy, and I'm being careful (not dieting just not giving in to eating for 2). I really want a home birth which so far mw says is fine and weight is not at a problematic level but don't want to push my risk factors any more.

On the food thing I haven't been very adherent to be honest. Runny eggs I've checked and double checked and as long as they have the lion mark you are totally allowed to eat them. I have still been eating cured meat and the occasional medium steak and bit of Brie - although I did cook myself a lovely medium rare sirloin last night which my hubby wolfed down but something in my pregnancy nose said absolutely not. What a waste (the dog was happy!) but that's what pregnancy nose is for I guess. I avoided alcohol for the first 12 weeks but now it's past the very developmental stage and the scans have come back all clear I'm allowing myself the odd glass of wine (I had both parents and my gran staying for a week last week, it was necessary!).

So I'm off to the baby show in London today. Slightly dreading the cuteness of it all tbh, not my style. But we really wanted to see a load of prams and stuff in one place to get a feel for what we want to try and hunt down second hand. I haven't bought anything for the bump yet so looking forward to getting something nice to start the process, but I don't want to buy loads yet! Any top tips from you who've done it before?

MrsLister · 25/02/2012 08:34

popy angel tusa - you're all ladies after my own heart! :)

Welcome susie and tusa

Today I shall mostly be lounging in bed reading the papers and blogging about my determination to not put too much weight on during this pregnancy!

My 'I'm pregnant, not fat' campaign begins in earnest on Monday when I will be replacing my 10 mile round-trip cycle commute to work with a walk (will get bus half way and walk the rest with a plan on doing the whole thing on foot by summer if I can manage it). I'm starting pilates a week on Monday (once per week) and have also bought a pregnancy yoga DVD which I hope to do on a weekend.

So far I've put on 1kg which isn't too bad but I was already carrying 'Xmas' weight so was half a stone overweight to begin with - gah!

Hope the Baby Show is good Tusa - I was contemplating going myself.

Tusa · 25/02/2012 08:41

Hey MrsLister weirdly I have also just started doing antenatal Pilates and my mission to start walking to work starts next week. It's 40mins downhill in the morning, think I'll still get the train home for now! I've just signed up to an antenatal class that includes yoga from the end of April (plus couples classes later on) so looking forward to that!

I'll let you know if the baby show's worth the bother.

Gnomi · 25/02/2012 09:16

I've just found a local Pregnancy Pilates class too! I'm going on Tuesday, hopefully it'll be good. When I went for my 16 week appointment, the midwife was quite strict about getting off the bed properly (roll on to your side, swing your legs off and then sit up rather than straining your tummy muscles). It's made me paranoid about how to move! I've also been swimming twice a week (trying to build up to three times) which I love, but it's playing havoc with my already dry skin.

Can I not eat chorizo? Don't think I've eaten any so far, and obviously I would cook it, but I was planning on doing a Spanish tortilla this week!

I've been just following the NHS guidelines. I had a glass of wine on Christmas day, but that's it. To be honest, it's tasted really weird each time I've tried to have a sip. We went out for a seriously nice meal for DH's birthday this week, and had the tasting menu. I rang ahead, and told them I was pregnant, and they were brilliant, substituting things I couldn't have (steak tartare, anyone?) for PG-friendly alternatives.

I can just about still do my jeans up (I'm 16+6), but a friend has leant me a bump band. Leggings are definitely more comfortable though!

susiegrapevine · 25/02/2012 10:14

Hey tusa I too have not yet put on any weight tho my tummy is bigger? And I do have a high bmi also tho only put on 6lbs during my last pregnancy and lost 2 stone after the joys of breast feeding. I too realised that eggs with the red lion on are ok to eat runny as salmonella checks in this country as sooo stringent! Saw this on the telly. Glad everyone seems to be getting on ok tho.

CATwith2Kittens · 25/02/2012 10:57

Hello :-)
Please can I go on your list? Self confessed list fanatic (have already made 2 this morning - swiftly adding Camembert to the shopping one) Due 12th August in Wareham, Dorset.

Westcountrylovescheese · 25/02/2012 13:50

Wow lots of newbies, welcome all!

Chorizo is cured meat so cooked is ok. Mine was soon to be cooked. Eek, oh well.

warzonemummy · 25/02/2012 14:45

hello everyone,

Please place me on the list. I am 17 weeks exactly today. Due on the 4th August. I am going to have the baby in St Georges in London

As you can tell from my name, I am not in the UK at the moment as am working in a war zone. I am planning to be back mid June - when I am about 33 weeks gone. I checked with the airline and they are okay flying me.

I am feeling fine, big boobs, no cravings and no sickness, just some times I get itchy all over. I haven't put on any weight yet. I am worried about it a bit. But the baby looks fine - flutters like a butterfly some time.

I am going to have a scan tomorrow - at my 12 week scan I was told that my baby is likely to be a girl, but I am doing another scan, just to make sure, tomorrow. I hope 17 weeks is far enough to see the baby's sex.

I have read every single post here but haven't written yet so hope this is the first of many.

xxx
