Just had a BFP and wondered if anyone wanted to join me in the rollercoaster ride over the next few months

I think I might be the oldest on here... I am 44.5, 7 weeks tomorrow. DS1 is 18months and a joy.
I had a straightforward first pregnancy with a 'normal' vaginal delivery. I kept fit while I was pregnant with walking and swimming and I swam 1km the day before my waters broke.
I actually had lots of nausea first time round and then later brutal heartburn. I had never tasted gaviscon before and then I was never without it! The upside of that was that I was 10lbs lighter after having the baby than I was getting pregnant (all put back on since).
Anyway this time I am eating like a little pig, or even a medium sized one.

missbone · 16/02/2012 20:23

Oh, lisbeth! You've really cheered me up! Just knowing you've had a healthy baby aged 43 and are now pregnant again is wonderful to hear (I'm 40.5 yrs, first baby). May i ask how you managed to 'ignore' the anxieties surrounding age and miscarriage? Any advice would be most welcome (i've even considered staying off this thread until after my 12 wk scan Sad) xx

lisbethsopposite · 16/02/2012 20:43

I think ignorance was bliss. I don't think I knew that older mums had higher risk of MC, do we? But even if the risk is 1 in 10, or 6 or 4, anyone can worry about it if they want.

Once you get pregnant, yes I worried, but it did occur to me, will I worry when they start school, when they are out at night, when they form relationships? All mothers worry - your happiness is now dependent on someone else. You also realise that if you let these worries dominate, your kids will be driven bonkers. You gotta compartmentalise.
God helped me with some worries - I felt he would look after things, whatever the outcome.

missbone · 16/02/2012 21:14

Thanks, lisbeth, you are slowly converting me to sane, rational thinking Smile

YompingJo · 16/02/2012 22:37

lol @ ZoePlankton's dizzy moment Grin - were you planning on telling those friends anyway?

missbone I don't think there's much reassurance to be sought, sadly - the thing that stops me worrying too much is that if the worst does happen, it happened because biologically this wasn't meant to be. Not because of anything else. And I would rather find that out early than later on, I guess. And at least, if it does happen, I'll know know that I CAN get a BFP - that was my biggest worry when we started trying, as I am also older and I was scared that it would take ages or not happen at all. Now I know it can - and it will again, if needs be. Sending positive anti-worrying thoughts your way Thanks Biscuit

From the beginning of the year, I was on a losing weight kick. I lost 9lbs in 5 weeks, as I am overweight. Now that I know I'm pregnant, I've read that I shouldn't diet, which I wasn't really in the first place, I was just eating more healthly and exercising a lot more like going to the gym and doing exercise videos. I'm too tired to do more than 10 mins of walking at the moment, and I know things like the gym are out of the equation for me now, so I know I won't be losing much more weight anyway, but my worry is that because I am already overweight (I wanted to lose 3.5 stone altogether) that I will really suffer during pregnancy. I was 4.5 stone lighter than I am now when I had DD and only put on a stone with her.

milk · 17/02/2012 11:20

I feel so so sick today :(

Bear1984 · 17/02/2012 11:27

I've been having ginger nuts biscuits, murray mints and using a hot water bottle which have been helping through the sickness. Been drinking sour drinks, such as a citrius juice from Sainsburys as well.

Angelico · 17/02/2012 11:28

Bear I'm also about 3.5 stone overweight without having the excuse of already having been pregnant :o I think all we can do is try and be sensible. It's helping at the minute that I don't fancy sweets or junk food. Unfortunately I don't fancy fruit either so not all good... Confused

7 weeks today!

Bear1984 · 17/02/2012 11:34

Angelico ooo 7 weeks :) I'm the same. We had a takeaway Valentines Day, but that's bout it. I'm hoping that once baby has come, the weight loss will be a lot better as I dropped 2 clothes sizes after having DD, so that'll be nice if it happens again! Grin

Angelico · 17/02/2012 12:37

Oh God, have run out of Mulligatawny soup!!! Disaster!!! Lol

milk · 17/02/2012 12:47

Angelico- buy it or make Mulligatawny soup :)

Angelico · 17/02/2012 12:56

Milk - you're awesome! Hope you're feeling less sick! x You could try the soup as it really settled my stomach after a couple of nauseating lunches. Late afternoon seems to be my danger time but have been fine after the magic soup and oatcakes!

squidkid · 17/02/2012 14:17

Hi! Nice to meet you all.

My estimated due date is 30th September, so can I just about sneak into this conversation?

I found out really early at 4 and half weeks (I felt totally strange and knew I was pregnant straight away) and I've been trying not to get too carried away until the first few weeks have passed. I haven't seen a doctor but I know the basics of what to do - got a midwife appointment on the 28th - I'll be just over 9 weeks - very excited.

This is my first pregnancy!

Angelico · 17/02/2012 14:22

Welcome squidkid - great name! :o Congrats on your bfp. I think you are due first on this board, a few people are due on Oct 1st.

BabyDustPlease · 17/02/2012 14:25

Hi All,

Hope everyones okay. I have my booking in appointment in an hour or so but I'm really anxious today as my morning sickness just seems to have stopped. Anyone else had this and been fine? I'm really worried.

squidkid · 17/02/2012 14:26

Thanks Angelico! It might be Oct 1 or 2, my period is a little variable. I'm just excited so I want to be as far through the pregnancy as possible, haha.

Squid is my favourite food ever, I prepare it at home in a mess of tentacles and ink and flash fry it, and now I can't have it for 8 months, but it doesn't really matter because I currently feel too nauseous to eat BREAD, let alone squid!

I am having to look up all the pregnancy acronyms, I am a real beginner with all this.

FjordMor · 17/02/2012 15:27

Hi everyone,

Glad I found this board/thread as I'm desperate for someone to talk to about all this as only my OH knows so far. I'm 41 yrs old and 6 weeks today (due date October 12th I think) with my first pregnancy! :) Wasn't expecting to get pregnant so easily & so quickly into trying Shock and am therefore in the strange position of being halfway between Norway & UK (emigrating) and having to travel back to the UK to sell my flat. Hoping to manage all this in as zen a fashion as possible as MC is a worry & moving/selling/buying houses/travelling a lot not the most unstressful thing to be doing. So good to hear everyone's symptoms/experiences at the same stage. So far I've just had incredibly sore boobs and a bit of nausea. I have several known and one very large fibroid though so I look about 4 months gone already & am already feeling quite uncomfortable some days :( Going to have first appt in the UK & then scan etc in Norway. Fun & games! Wink. squidkid, squid is also one of my favourites. Didn't know I couldn't have it :(

Littlepurpleprincess · 17/02/2012 15:31

BabyDustPlease I wouldn't worry about morning sickness stopping for a day. I felt like death from last friday - tuesday but was absolutely fine on wednesday, no sickness at all. Not to worry though, it returned the next day with vengance!

Littlepurpleprincess · 17/02/2012 15:34

I went for a wonder round the charity shops and got a carrier bag full of newborn clothes for £2. I know it's way to early but I couldn't leave it there and I can put it away with DS's old stuff until I need it.

Tell me I'm not mad! Blush

23yrs, 6+5, 2nd baby.

Angelico · 17/02/2012 16:09

babydust enjoy your booking appt! I wouldn't worry about the lack of sickness, all I've had is intermittent nausea so far. My boobs are still gargantuan and tender though. The whole 'morning sickness is a sign of healthy pregnancy' thing is totally overrated - loads of people I know (my mum included) never had any sickness at all.

Squidkid I would pretty much rather eat my own arm than eat squid! :-D

Congrats Fjordmor - we are selling a house and doing up another one so I feel your pain. Norway is gorgeous.

Purple I think we're all going nuts in our different ways. Charity shops sound like a great idea. I might wait till I know gender before buying anything. Who thinks they are going to find out???

YompingJo · 17/02/2012 16:28

Angelico, me and DH both want to find out. We both feel like we will be able to bond a little more with the unborn baby if we know whether it's going to a boy or a girl. Just things like referring to it as he or she, rather than it, make it seem more like a person to me.

Any other thoughts?
