Just had a BFP and wondered if anyone wanted to join me in the rollercoaster ride over the next few months

Hi everyone. I've not posted much yet as I've been so so tired. I'm quite lucky so far though as I've not really had any sickness, just a couple of days of slight nausea. I have my booking in appointment a week today and also have the letter about my first scan. The scan isn't until the 22nd March, I'm going to go crazy waiting.
I tried on some maternity clothes in Dorothy Perkins yesterday as my clothes are starting to feel a bit tight. I couldn't bring myself to buy anything yet though. Has anyone dyed their hair since knwoing they were pg? I want to but I'm not sure if I should.
I have also told my boss now. He was happy for me and I'm relieved as I won't need to make excuses to go to my appointments. Really sorry to all the ladies who have had bad news :(

Sassee, I hope these 12 days go super quick for you and you only ever hear good news!!!

milk · 16/02/2012 15:59

HeeHeeHeeBum, I bought maternity clothes last week: a dress from Topshop (was £24, down to £6.50), and a cardigan from H&M (was £25, now £7). I find Topshop maternity dresses are cut small, hence why I bought the size up. I won't wear any of the clothes until my 12 week scan though.

HeeHeeHeeBum · 16/02/2012 16:04

Wow milk you got some good bargains there. I hadn't thought of Topshop - I will look there too. I tried H&M but couldn't find the maternity section. I know it is going to be a problem for me and I'll have to live in skirts/dresses as I'm tall and have lots of problems buying trousers as it is. Lots of shops have a tall range and a maternity range but not the two together :)

DameFlatYouLent · 16/02/2012 16:28

heehee I'm tall and find H&M maternity pretty good, but their trouser sizes are stingy! It can be very depressing shopping there. I cut out all the labels last time so I didn't have to look at the scary numbers Gap do some longer leg stuff iirc, and their sizing is less insulting!!

That's very good advice about clothing. Last time I was preggo I found some lovely maternity clothes in h&m. Oooh I'm a bit excited!

I have a christening to go to Sunday, I havnt a clue what to wear because everything just feels blahhh! Any ideas anyone?

milk · 16/02/2012 17:07

marvellousmarie, I would wear a pair of plain black trousers, with a feminine top :)

Zoeplankton · 16/02/2012 17:10

Hi all!

Sassee - hope its good news 12 days from now.

If you've been silently beaming hate at those of us with no symptoms, rest assured I got my comeuppance. I had to travel to Manchester yesterday (and back to London today!) and by golly did that fast train turn my stomach. BLEAUGH!

Here is my cheerful anecdote for the day. I went out with two friends in Manchester last night. Five minutes after meeting up, one of them casually asked if I was pregnant. I gasped - 'you must be psychic! I am! But how did you know?'

'Well', she said, 'two minutes ago you were telling us you had morning sickness on the train...'

Pregnancy brain! Apparently, mine has kicked in early ;)

missbone · 16/02/2012 17:14

Try ASOS maternity. Not looked myself yet (far too early) but it's supposed to have great stuff (vintage aswell).

missbone · 16/02/2012 17:32

Oooooh! The ASOS maternity range is fabulous! Really stylish and feminine.

BabyDustPlease · 16/02/2012 17:54

I'm so glad you have started talking like this. I feel HUGE! I am 6+5 and my clothes are getting tighter and tighter. When I put on weight it always tends to go on my belly so I've always had a problem with looking like I have a bump when I don't. I'm still keeping it a secret so this weight increase really isn't helping!! But the only way I can stop the morning sickness is by eating!! HELP!!!
Rant over, sowwi Blush

BabyDustPlease · 16/02/2012 17:55

I meant talking about this, not talking like this!

milk · 16/02/2012 18:05

BabyDustPlease- "But the only way I can stop the morning sickness is by eating!! HELP!!!"- what food have you been eating?

Beeblebear · 16/02/2012 18:07

Before getting my BFP I found some jeans that i absolutely loved. THey were marked $17 but when I got to the till i found they were marked down to $5. I went back and bought another pair in a size larger - since we were trying i figured I might need them eventually! I have also already hit up our thrift stores in seach of maternity-ish tops so that will be good for the early bits, a couple for the later. Scored about 12 tops (and some other goodies like onsies to give to our parents) for $125 - Yes, it's still early and I went overboard but i'm EXCITED!

milk I have been eating fruit and cereal bars mostly with a little bit of choc sneaked in but no more choc than I normally eat. I think its the amount?! Getting me down though, silly I know but I don't want to be non-preggo fat!!

Beeblebear · 16/02/2012 18:28

Oh and does drinking tea seem to give anyone here a total buzz? I have usually one black tea every morning, but this last week i get 3/4 of the way through it and it gives me a buzz and makes me dizzy! Think i'm going to have to switch to decaf.

HeeHeeHeeBum · 16/02/2012 18:45

BabyDustPlease your snacks sound pretty healthy. I can't stop eating cheese!

BabyDustPlease · 16/02/2012 18:49

HeeHeeHeeBum maybe its more bloating then. Just feeling really down about my size, silly I know because I can't wait for my bump!!

I can't stop thinking about miscarriage. Please forgive me...i know i shouldn't be allowing these despairing thoughts to overtake me and i certainly shouldn't be airing them on here. Anyone got any positive reassurances/statistics for a paranoid 40 yr old? Please?? I'm 6+3, 1st baby xx

Angelico · 16/02/2012 18:55

I'm totally obsessed with that Heinz Mulligatawny soup at the mo. Mmmmm, spicy! Ate it with oatcakes for lunch yum yum. No more jacket potatoes after PotatoGate yesterday (turns green at memory). I'm also really off sweet stuff at the minute when a fortnight I was gobbling sugar.

7 weeks tomorrow!

BabyDustPlease · 16/02/2012 19:08

missbone I think we are all worrying about it especially with such sad news on here every day. The way I think about it is look at all the pregnancy's that do go all the way, all the women that have had babies no problem. You have to hold on to them. The clinic where I am going to for my early scan has this on their website about what they can see in the scans but it has miscarriage stats, hope it helps:

^At 6 weeks we can see the gestation sac and yolk in the womb. The risk for miscarriage at this stage is approximately 10%
At 7 weeks we can see a heartbeat. The risk for miscarriage at this stage is approximately 5%
At 8 weeks, if the heartbeat is present, your risk for miscarriage is now only 2%
At 10 weeks, if the heartbeat is present and the baby measures appropriately for your dates, the risk for miscarriage is now 1%^

Hope that helps...xxxx

BabyDustPlease · 16/02/2012 19:09

Angelico sounds like you are craving very healthy stuff. I really really want chips and mayo but have managed to avoid having it so far. Carrot sticks for me and I'm still fat!!

turnwest · 16/02/2012 19:15

Well, I m no good at statistics but I have a friend who had her first pregnancy at 46 IVF, had a perfectly normal healthy pregnancy and gave birth to twin boys last year.

I keep trying to reassure myself by thinking that even though we have lost many on this thread recently, the majority of pregnant women will go to have healthy babies. It's worrying though, I feel the same paranoia some days.

Thanks, Babydust & Turnwest. I have a deep faith in an Almighty God and it is Him who i will have to trust xx
