hamncheese I love the phrase pie baby!

Thanks for all your well wishes about the engagement, we're both catholic so it felt like the right thing to do before the DC arrives, not even thought about what or when for the wedding, DP keeping quiet until the scan I think.

MrsMigginslovespies so glad that the scan went well x

MrsMigginslovespies · 17/01/2012 19:52

Eighties, that doesn't sound right to me. Can't you ask again? I thought a nuchal scan between 11-14 weeks was standard, but I could be wrong. Definitely worth following it up imho. Good luck.

And meant to say earlier, many congratulations WelshLadyCDF! Lovely news and super exciting!

Westcountrywife · 17/01/2012 20:04

Hi all, phew now found where you are hiding!

Eighties, sounds right if your hospital doesn't do the nuchal fold test, I don't think all do if your are low risk. I think you have a dating scan then an abnormality scan at 20 weeks. The nuchal fold test is done at 12 weeks if you are having it... I think that's right, anyone have any other ideas?

My hospital will be the RD&E Exeter... for some reason I am really not getting the at home thing. Possibly as this is my first I want lots of people around who know what's going on as I suspect me and DH will be rabbits in headlights...!

My first scan is 23rd jan when I'll be 12+3...

Westcountrywife · 17/01/2012 20:06

Oh and congratulations Welsh! We got married in August. Remember to treat it as the biggest best party ever!

capecath · 17/01/2012 20:19

Loupee definitely does feel more real after the first scan! We're due on the 15th at RI in Edinburgh and DS1 was rather early so if that's anything to go by we may even see you there :)

LoveMarmite interesting dilema with your sister... She may warm to the idea of being an auntie! I have an older sister who doesn't have kids and is rather baby-shy, but she makes such a fuss of her little nephew now. Let her know she is important to you and that you value her input. It sounds like she is worried about losing some of you to your baby, which may happen to some degree, but think it could help if she feels included.

With our first I found it all quite interesting to see how friendship dynamics changed. Some for the better, others not so much, but I think it was mainly because we're pretty much the first in our group of friends to have kids, and I think some of them didn't know how to relate.. not because they didn't want to, they just didn't know what to do or say so we just got a bit ignored at times. I have been keen to try and make extra effort with some of these people, because for some of them they may just feel a little uncertain, and I love them enough to want them to be involved. I have been trying to be interested in their lives and put myself in their shoes. It is great having people who are going through the same things as you, but actually too much baby talk can get a bit monotonous after a while, so some variety is good :)

Sparklesandglitter · 17/01/2012 20:24

Can I be added to the list? Age 27 DC1 DD26/08/12 thanks Smile x

thatboysmum · 17/01/2012 20:38

I've had my sister doing the whole feeling my tummy thing already, couldn't stand it and had to tell her so. I had forgotten how touchy feely people get when they know your pregnant. We got alot of 'advice' first first time round, followed by "well thats what we did when we had kids, never harmed them!'' when we did things our way. Hopefully that won't happen much this time round as this is our 2nd and we've done it already!

Angel786 · 17/01/2012 21:01

Totally agree with needles when dd was born I could've screamed at mother, mil, fil, etc! Not so much unwanted advice but just wouldn't bloody listen, so overheating dd in several blankets when I'd said she didn't need it, alwaaaays telling me dd was hungry (when she was overtired!), even now I said at the weekend don't do all the buttons on the cardi up as it's q warm indoors, I just put it on dd to stop her scratching her arms too much but lo and behold after I'd unbuttoned granny would And breathe! Angry

Fab news mrsmiggins glad all went well!

Lovemarmite · 17/01/2012 21:16

Oh joys, the comments will get worse then probably?!
Right a thick skin it is then. I've already said to my sister that I will probably make lots of mistakes, as that's what parents are meant to do!!

Great news on your scan Mrsmiggins

I got a call from my doctors today as I'd asked for vitamin D tablets (well, as prescriptions are free!) as I thought I read that they're available on the NHS in the pregnancy book. The receptionist really quizzed me about why I needed them and so I went into not going out much as it's cold and so might need supps - also a veggie and so only getting it from eggs. Oh dear, went to check the book again and you have to be on 'Healthy Start' with vouchers to get them non prescription - hmmm, maybe not available to everyone then? So will probably not get them and now a wee bit confused if you should take them or not worry!
I bought some very expensive pregnancy tablets from G&G and there's tons of tablets to take daily and I can't get through them as they make me retch - and not sure which ones are the vitamin D! d'oh.
Is anyone else taking them?

Welcome too to sparklesandglitter!

ballinderrymum · 17/01/2012 21:34

eighties i agree with westcountry i had my booking in, blood tests and scan today (i'm 10weeks + 5 days) and my next scan is at 20 weeks - with DD it was the same

PoppyS34 · 17/01/2012 21:52

lovemarmite the midwife said to me that they did discounted supplements for vit d and calcium (as you need one to help asborb the other), so maybe ask your midwife? Not sure if that is the same elsewhere, but I hneed to take extra calcium

pleased to read about all the scans. Monday cannot come soon enough for me :)

Westcountrywife · 17/01/2012 21:55

Lovemarmite, my midwife has told me to take vitamin D for the whole pregnancy, this could have been because of other health issues. I got mine from a pharmacy (pharmacist knew strength to buy) and they cost about £1.20 for 60 tablets. DH is taking them too as they said on the tv that they are good to take.

Westcountrywife · 17/01/2012 22:00

P.s. New Look sell 'Hands off the bump' maternity tshirts....

P.p.s. had MIL on Sunday tell me that she didn't have ms or nausea with both her pregnancies, apparently you can stop it by telling yourself it's not there, it's all in your mind... I seethed, DH did not sufficiently defend me and is paying for it. So anyone else think its all mind over matter or go you want to strangle my MIL with me?

ballinderrymum · 17/01/2012 22:01

i saw on the news that there was an increase in the amount of children with vitamin D deficiency and they were recommending for pregnant women to take it

Westcountrywife · 17/01/2012 22:01

'do you'

...must let others post now.

Purplelooby · 17/01/2012 22:02

lovemarmite I'm veggie too so I'm worried about anaemia amongst a zillion other things... I do eat eggs though. Basically I'm taking the pregnecare tablets which as far as I can tell contain the mixture of whatever it is that you need - defo iron + C, folic acid and they have 200 % RDA Vit D. The only trouble is that they are massive so I feel sick just thinking about taking them :( I force myself to though - sneak them in with a bagel and cream cheese (just about the only thing that I actually delight in eating right now) which makes it go down ok.

Sooo... I thought I would struggle to keep my caffeine levels below 200 mg, being obsessed with both tea and coffee - however, I can't even think about drinking either now. DH thinks I've gone mental (like those wierd people who don't drink Brew Wink). Anyone else gone off something that is normally their favourite?

ballinderrymum · 17/01/2012 22:05

westcountry i heard someone saying that pmt was just a figment of your imagination... she was a psychologist! arse! i love experts!

PoppyS34 · 17/01/2012 22:09

purplelooby i've not gone off coffee at all, have to drink the decaff stuff now though, but I have gone off meat a bit and refused chocolate cake today -just didnt' fancy it. Shock now that IS a first...

I don't think it's that I've gone off stuff, it's more that nausea doesn't put me in the mood to eat - if that makes sense? I just don't fancy eating stuff.

westcountrywife I would argue with your mil that there's not much mind over matter with hormones, but on the flip I have been able to stop myself being sick before, just by cooling down and breathing deeply. It was the only time the nausea almost got the better of me. However, I've got off pretty lightly on the ms front and others aren't so lucky, so I reckon there'll be a few others who will help strangle :o

Lovemarmite · 17/01/2012 22:12

Thanks everyone - will look at the vitamin D tablets tomorrow properly/ask the midwife and I'll probably do my DH's head in and buy more!

I think I will throttle your MIL with you westcountrywife! Such nonsense!

Purblelooby your name is crazy - like it! I am really finding it hard to have a good diet as a veggie. Normally love dal with rice and green veggies, but now yuck, even beans are making me gag. Managed to have some humous the other day and then had to throw the rest away as nope, that was not quite right the next day. Love tea, now can't bear it. So am living off water, regular portions of dairylea which I am pleased to say, I am getting bored of, marmite on toast, risotto and luckily some salads which are giving me dreadful wind. TMI, sorry! Hoping my better diet comes back in soon. Oh to have an indian again! oooo even writing the word makes me feel not so pretty!

Angel786 · 17/01/2012 22:16

Lol west country acc to my mil dh and his sis slept through from day one?! And dh didn't crawl just walked. Hmmmm

Loupee · 17/01/2012 22:19

capecath have you given birth in the Royal before? I've not long moved to the area so everything is new to me. That's where I'm going for the scan on Monday. Just can't wait now, probably won't be able to sleep the night before!

I also take the pregnacare vitamins, I find them easier to swallow with a thick drink, like a smoothie, instead of water.

sc0ttishlass · 17/01/2012 22:24

Loupee - that t-shirt is hilarious - well done for finding that one!

I will be at the Princess Royal in Glasgow (havent heard anything from them or anyone - still await an scan date or any form of appointment but just looking forward to private scan on sunday).

hope you enjoyed your mac and cheese mrs miggins - I cant get enough cheese at the moment :)

xx

tashaw28 · 17/01/2012 22:36

Had my scan today and saw a heartbeat!! Exactly 9 weeks! So excited and so is DH now he's seen the picture! Congrats to all the other scans, I can't wait till my next one on 6th feb now! Also staring to feel a bit better the last few days although cant face cooking in the eveningsSad

hamncheese · 18/01/2012 07:45

Loupee - How is Edinburgh? I was never sure when visiting but I'll be leaving Glasgow too soon... will end up in north Lanarkshire at Wishaw general in the end. liking the tshirt, luckily I stole got my hands on a screen from my mum to screen print so the opportunities are endless.

Suggestions as to best slogan for bump related tshirt anyone?? :)

Purplelooby - I raise my hand and confess myself one of the weird non-coffee drinking people Blush but I am missing being able to drink tea continuously... fruit tea just isn't the same. Also don't know if anyone else is the same but I have lost my sweet tooth. Seriously after every meal I'd be like 'right, where's dessert then???' and now not only do I not crave something sweet I don't even want it when offered.. very disconcerting.

scottishlass - how far along are you? I'm going to be at the Princess Royal in Glasgow too and got nothing from them for so long and finally at 11+2 got a letter for the booking. Had to call like 15 different numbers to get anyone who could confirm (though not very confidently) that I would get a scan at the same time which seemed a bit unusual. Everyone in the place tells you a different thing!!

congrats to all having happy scans :)

theressomethingaboutmarie · 18/01/2012 08:49

well it never rains but it pours! Our CEO took me aside yesterday to advise that at some point in the next few months, it may be that I'm made redundant. He doesn't know that I'm pregnant as I'm only 8 weeks gone. Initial panic as to how we would cope and the stress of the situation affecting the baby as changed to glee that I have a 6 month notice period and a 6 week statutory redundancy notice period which, according to the solicitor I've just spoken with, would actually entitle me to get SMP from them too. We will fight to see another day!
