Lovemarmite · 18/01/2012 19:50

Hi there and welcome woopsiedaisy and great news on your scan!

Thanks for the heads up about John Lewis and prams, will remember for a few months down the line and hope the one I choose to go to has a good range.

Have just developed a bad wheeze and I think it's my gluten intolerance as I am having toast every morning with marmite - ahhhh! can't bear gluten free bread and so what can I put marmite on now?! Hmm, may have to try and find something else to curb the sickies - has any one found another secret food?

blackcatsdancing · 18/01/2012 20:07

lovemarmite do you like rye bread? not gluten free but lower (i think). is it definitely a gluten intolerance of is it the wheat? some people can tolerate spelt and spelt bread is easy to make at home.

Lovemarmite · 18/01/2012 20:22

Hi blackcatsdancing, thanks for your thoughts. I've been making 100% spelt bread at home and I think the gluten effects have caught up with me now. Can't take normal wheat as it gives me terrible throat problems and really bad fatigue - took me about 9 months to find out what was wrong with me. Too much dairy has the same effect and so a little is fine. I've also realised that both my parents have similar things - Dad has bad rhinitis from dairy and my mum is completely intolerant with wheat... not sure if it's hereditory as it seems a bit controversial in the academic circles, only coeliac is confirmed a genetic condition.
Have tried rye and maybe will try it again - bought some rice bread, hmm interesting and was eating millet bread from Biona for a while, but since pregnant, all tastes have changed and I really am hankering for things I don't normally eat.
Maybe I'll have eggs and mushrooms with a big bowl of fruit with some nuts in the morning and try digging out the millet from the freezer... pants, none of that goes with marmite!

What do you have for breakfasts?

voscar · 18/01/2012 21:33

Lovemarmite - have you thought about cornbreads? Many of them are not made with wheat or gluten? If you can't get cornbread, what about tortillas?

You can also get rice flour rolls and things if you look in the specialist/allergy sections.

Might also be worth reading the ingredients in crisp breads? I know there was one gluten free crisp bread that was in the free from range that was perfect for me and wheat free.

Apart from that it's cereal!! But that doesn't go with marmite!

Lovemarmite · 18/01/2012 21:46

Ooo yes, corn, I bought some yummy tortilla flour and we were making them ourselves, great idea, must dig it out again - for the past 10 weeks I've ignored it! Oh yes and my dodgy buckwheat crackers that are there - maybe they'll go with marmite?! Thanks, crazy taste buds might be into things like that again.

Sorry to bang on about my eating but thank you so much for your advice x

hamncheese · 19/01/2012 07:22

I just had tomato soup for breakfast. People always act like I'm insane for having non-breakfast specific food in the morning. But seriously, if you don't feel like toast, cereal or a fry up what are you going to have? What's wrong with baked potato and cheese for breakfast? Or noodles? Or jelly? Plus why are hotels always forcing fresh orange juice on people at breakfast? So much conformity, let me eat my dinner at 8am!!!

non-pregnancy related rant over.

I'm unofficially (i.e. no dating scan yet) 12 weeks today and I am showing in a tiny tiny way :)

Happy morning all!

woopsidaisy · 19/01/2012 07:50

I'm with you hamncheese. I've just had two boiled potatoes with butter and ketchup for my breakfast.
Yummy!

hamncheese · 19/01/2012 07:56

Mmmm potatoes for breakfast, delicacy Grin they were one of my 'safe' foods in the worst of the MS!

capecath · 19/01/2012 08:18

LoveMarmite oatcakes (notably Nairns) are yum with marmite. Also corn thins. I am munching them like popcorn (they taste like popcorn too).

Loupee hmm.. I'd suggest NCT antenatal classes since they're a great way to meet people. You need to book well in advance though - I left it too late and couldn't get in! But then I only made it to 1 NHS class anyway because then DS arrived... I'll pass on details about baby/tots classes closer to the time.

MrsMiggins if you're looking in Edinburgh for prams, Leith Pram Centre are super nice and helpful, with good prices, although we actually bought off Kiddicare.com in the end :P

Lovemarmite · 19/01/2012 09:44

oo will like at oatcakes if they're good with marmite! Hmm popcorn too eh? and potatoes for brekkie, ooo now that's a good idea... egg and chips!!! that sounds really great :)
Thanks for the suggestions!

hamncheese great to hear you're 12 weeks - yippee! :o

glittershoes · 19/01/2012 12:19

Found you!

Sorry for my absenteeism, been crazy busy, super tired and am now on holiday in Scotland with little signal!

So pleased for everyone with wonderful scans - can't wait for mine! I have my booking in appointment on Monday and we book the scan then. Cannot wait!

Really enjoying being away although it is a little frustrating for emotional me; we have done this holiday for several years, always with the same group of friends and it is usually all about the drinking and the hot tub, neither of which I can do! We have told our friends (they would have definitely guessed!) and they are all being really lovely and supportive but it is a bit lonely when they all head out to the hot tub with their drinks and I stay inside by myself (could go and sit and watch thm I suppose but then they couldn't smoke and, let's face it, it is Scotland in January!). Just feel a bit of a spoilsport; sleeping in the afternoon, missing trips to the beach as the car makes me feel sick, not being able to stomach the lovely cooked breakfast they made.

Just another thing to adjust to!

I am folic acid and vitamin d - my doctor said to take it the full pregnancy as it 'has recently been proven to be incredibly beneficial'. And I am in East Yorkshire, which means I will be in Hull Women's and Children's Hospital I believe - think that is the only option here other than a home birth!

therumoursaretrue · 19/01/2012 12:34

Hi August mums :-)

I am 22 and am 8 weeks with my first LO, due date 26/7/2011 as far as mine and GPs calculations go but no scan yet so that may change.

therumoursaretrue · 19/01/2012 12:36

Oops meant 26/8/2011 numbers are clearly my strong point Blush

peeriebear · 19/01/2012 12:42

I am 9 weeks today :) Still feeling sick (morning? Ha!) but it seems to be gradually lessening. Lots of toast and Marmite getting me through! for the purposes of the list this DC will be my third, all being well.

MrsMigginslovespies · 19/01/2012 14:13

Oatcakes, a bit of cream cheese and marmite is lush. As is a potato scone (no flour at all), popped into toaster, buttered with marmite. Yummy. I confess I had toast and marmite today too, with a rare cup of tea. Really not fancied one recently which is v odd. Some days I like granola too, the apple and cinnamon one from M&S. Not slimming but delicious.

Capecath odd you mention Leith Pram Centre as that's where my Mum are going next week for a browse. Website looks good and want to get an idea. But like you, will probably get something off t'internet eventually.

Am quite pleased because bloating seems to have gone down a bit now I'm finally off the progesterone pesseries. Was looking so vile last week, but better now. No idea when I'll actually look preggers, but sort of hope it's soon ifswim!

Boo Glittershoes you're having a bit of an emotional time. I can imagine it's an odd time, but good that they know. Could you perhaps suggest a nice walk nearby that you could all do together instead? Hope you manage to enjoy the rest of your trip.

Off to fially do some work, hope everyone is having a nice day. x

NeedlesCuties · 19/01/2012 16:11

Rant Alert!!! Please can someone say something to me that will help me out.

Today I have been sick 6 times, and it's only 4pm! Everything I've eaten has come back up again, even a dopey few chewy sweets I was eating while driving.

Feeling totally bloody miserable :(

Rang my dad half and hour ago to ask if he'd please mind DS for me for a few hours so I could die in peace.

Cry!

MrsMigginslovespies · 19/01/2012 16:18

Hmm. Keep an eye on it, I say. Make sure you're drinking enough to counter any dehydration and see if you can nibble on a (boring) dry cracker or something a bit later. Main thing is to keep drinking. Even water if you can face it, otherwise, something with a bit of taste like squash diluted. Poor you, that's really rubbish Sad.

hamncheese · 19/01/2012 16:43

poor needles :( try something fizzy to drink? x

glittershoes · 19/01/2012 16:53

You poor thing needles. Agree with mrsmiggins - make sure you drink lots and if it persists then ring your midwife.

Thanks as well mrsmiggins (very wise today!), I am just wallowing a bit really. I don't want to spoil their fun by asking them not to go in or anything or even just to include me more but I can't help feeling left out.

Right now for example, they are all out in the tub with beer and wine and I am inside by myself painting my toenails and watching the loose women repeat. It isn't their fault but I can't help but feel a little excluded.

Still, chin up, I am having a baby and they aren't! Much more exciting than a few hours in a hot tub!

Westcountrywife · 19/01/2012 17:29

Glittershoes, you are your own individual hot tub for the little one at the mo! I know what you mean though, in some ways it's not just the missing it now but knowing future events will change... Next year will you be taking a 4 month old into the hot tub? This I think is the moment that we all become proper grown ups. Scary hey?

On the other hand, I love pizza for breakfast...!

Westcountrywife · 19/01/2012 17:30
MrsMigginslovespies · 19/01/2012 17:38

Glittershoes, much nicer to have pretty toes than a hangover! But seems a bit of a shame to leave you out. Bah humbug say I.

Needles echo too about a fizzy drink. Am a total wimp normally with fizzy things, but for some reason, Coke or Diet Coke can hit the spot and knock away my nausea. Good luck and hope you're feeling better.

Will stop hogging this thread now. More than enough from me for one day!

x

Lovemarmite · 19/01/2012 18:24

Sending a big hug to you Needles - hope the sickies pass soon and that's it.

glittershoes you're right, you're having a baby, that's way more exciting!

Thanks for the suggestions for marmite partners Mrsmiggins - will look for the Nairns oatcakes tomorrow as see they're wheat free and then will be making potato farls at the weekend... hmm scones sound fun, are they the same I wonder? Hope I can be up for cooking, seeing my culinary efforts are a bit limited due to the 'can't be bothered' bug I've picked up recently.

Phoned to see if my blood tests were in as I was sooooo exhausted today and was wondering about anemia etc and was told all my bloods/urine tests were tops and so went and sat under a sunlight therapy lamp and got some vitamin D and then felt a bit brighter :)

Lovemarmite · 19/01/2012 18:28

Oh hang on, just got up from writing and nope, still knackered! Hope energy returns soon.

Can I ask please - how long have you waited/been waiting between seeing the MW for a booking-in appt. to getting the scan date? I am getting a little impatient. I only saw her last Tuesday and not heard anything yet, but it's only been a week and two days...

peeriebear · 19/01/2012 18:48

I'm not even booked in with mw until the 30th and I made the appt over two weeks ago. I have yet to see a single medical professional or prove I'm pregnant!
