Just did two pg tests and positive (although faint). Took 10 months ttc last time and as DD is almost one I've only had periods for a few months so this is a hugely pleasant surprise!

Anyone-else out there?

Hi all. I went for an early scan today - thinking I was about 6 1/2 weeks. I was told that there was a sac and a yolk but nothing else yet so I am either a week earlier than we thought (which I guess could be true as my cycle can sometimes be quite long) or something is wrong - but I've now got to wait 2 weeks until they scan me again. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Meanwhile I am seeing so many family members and friends over the next couple of weeks - non of whom will believe "I'm on antibiotics" for a second. What a time of year to be preggers!

eightieshopaholic · 21/12/2011 20:54

Can I join this group!!

Had my midwife appt today:- what a nightmare!!! student midwife took blood wrong dropped on floor didn't have cotton wool ready, couldn't answer my questions actual midwife kept popping in but taking phone calls this is my first pregnancy and have been left with more questions than answers feel upset and angry my partner wanted to complain!! stopped him.

blackcatsdancing · 21/12/2011 21:02

i'm due around 13th August. They don't do nucal fold scan where i am either. The GP printed out the surgery's info sheet on early pregnancy which said if i wanted to have it (or was advised to have it) i'd need to go to London- presumably i'd be referred and have in done under NHS. I know the blood test and nucal scan are done between 11 +3 and 13 +6. CVS can be done during that period and for a bit longer after (until 15+6). So i'm resigned to having CVS at the end of January. So just under 6 weeks to go. Next week i see midwife for pre-booking appointment.

namechangerbat · 21/12/2011 21:06

Blackcat - can I ask why you'll be having the CVS?

NathanDetroit · 21/12/2011 21:27

dollie OMG, I am so thirsty. It seems to come and go but I remember being at my sis in law's gulping water and getting some strange glances from her...

Just been out for DH's work do and everyoneseems to know. HMM! Might tell my parents Boxing day or something like that. My mum's lovely but also a bit of a naggy nightmare and I know she'll do my head in.

Didn't book nuchal scan as don't need to go in for it til about 12 weeks which is double the amount of pregnancy I have. Think I'd like to wait til January (only 10 days!) and then get on with that booking. Am going to have my registration visit with the nurse so will ask her some questions then and see what happens. Was explaining my feelings to DH this evening and he was really kind and said we could pay for a private dating scan if I was getting too stressed.

eightiesshopaholic I would so complain about that! Midwife shouldn't have been taking calls and leaving you with an inexperienced midwife, that sounds really stressful for you. I was looking at our community midwives website and it gives the email address for the Supervisor of Midwives with any questions/queries so I'd suggest just dropping her a line? I think it's important the managers know what's going on as you could have some serious stuff going that needs to be brought up.

blackcatsdancing · 21/12/2011 21:32

i'm just assuming i'll need it as am 43/nearly 44. Its the only way to know for certain. That said if i get good scan/blood test results and the midwife and consultant are reassuring i may not do it as there is small chance of miscarriage. I have found out that the best thing to do is get a CVS done by a very, very experienced doctor, it decreases chances of miscarriage. I'm near enough to London that i can go to the fetal medicine centre which is run by a world expert in fetal medicine. So even if I'm referred to NHS hospital i think i'll end up paying for it to be done privately (nucal scan too as they are experts at those also).

glittershoes · 21/12/2011 21:43

Hello!

Just bitten the bullet and booked an early, private scan! We weighed up all the pros and cons and decided to go for it so roll on 8th January! I'll only be 8 weeks but hoping it will give me some piece of mind. So excited!

namechangerbat · 21/12/2011 21:45

Glittershoes - we had a private scan last time with dd2 at 8 weeks exactly. Was really lovely Grin

NathanDetroit · 21/12/2011 21:51

glittershoes hurrah, that's really exciting! Not long to wait at all. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

glittershoes · 21/12/2011 22:03

Thanks! I am so glad that we have decided to do it. Really hoping that everything is ok and so excited about seeing it all on screen.

namechangerbat - could you see much? I am not quite sure what to expect!

namechangerbat · 21/12/2011 22:05

Not sure, shes 1 now so it was a while ago Grin think it looked like a kidney bean type thing with a heart beating.

Saw dd1 at 5 weeks 6 days Smile saw her little heart too

NeedlesCuties · 22/12/2011 07:43

Did you ladies know there is also an official ante-natal thread for August 2012?

check it out, lots more women due at the same time as us all.

August 2012

0FrillyKnickers0 · 22/12/2011 07:58

Hi Smile Just got my BFP! I thought I'd be all crazy and excited, but I'm kinda in a dream world!! Very happy though :) Gonna make an appt with Dr this morning if poss. It's nice to meet you all!

NeedlesCuties · 22/12/2011 08:15

Congrats Frilly!

That's a special Christmas gift for you this year :)

0FrillyKnickers0 · 22/12/2011 08:24

Thanks Needles! It is Grin Ok, so now I need to learn how NOT to worry!! Any tips Hmm??

PoppySeed34 · 22/12/2011 08:27

namechangerbat- wow! good luck! :)

Westcountrywife - not got pit problems yet, but that can only be in the post I guess..!! I am sweating more though, lovely! Add that to my bloating and trapped wine and spotty chin and I feel even more attractive - lmao Xmas Grin

My nails have never been nicer though, anyone else? Pregnancy hormones apparently (blame them for everything, it seems,)

I am thirsty too, and it's not helped by not drinking enough.. need to sort that out, but can't face more loo trips..

YAY - glittershoes, how exciting, can't wait to hear about it all. hopefully the time between now and then will fly by, what with Xmas and New Year. Although the last 7 weeks seem to have been the slowest of my life so far...

Wishing you all a good Thursday Brew

PoppySeed34 · 22/12/2011 08:37

congrats frilly, if you work out how not to worry please let me know Xmas Grin i change between being excited and being freaked out by everything - trying not to think about things too much till 12 wk scan.. (not sure that's the best idea, but hey ho :))

0FrillyKnickers0 · 22/12/2011 08:43

Poppy, love the name Wink I've already downloaded the app that tells me about the baby's progress Grin Maybe we can figure out how to stop worrying and sell the cure! So glad I'm not the only one with spotty chin and sweating more!! I hate being spotty Sad but, i am pregnant so it's worth it!!

PoppySeed34 · 22/12/2011 09:01

thanks frilly, when I joined I was reading about at what stage I was at and read that the baby's heart was the size of a poppyseed, apparently! not very inventive, but I was still in shock from BFP!

despite the unglamorous side effects I'm over the moon and it is most definitely worth it Xmas Grin

Clarajinglebumps · 22/12/2011 10:58

Also very thirsty here! I'm constantly drinking Soda water and lime. First day of school holidays so still in my jammies and watching Ben 10. I have a night out tonight at a local hotel with all of Dp's friends and their wives. Its going to be hard to hide the fact i'm not drinking. I'm thinking that I'll have a glass of wine with dinner and then just drink soda and lime and pretend there's vodka in it.

I missed one of their kids birthday party a few weeks ago as I had a tummy bug and was being sick everywhere. (the reason I think my pill didn't work)
I think if I turned up and wasn't drinking they would definitely suspect. So Dh is going to just go to the bar for me and refuse all offers of drinks.

We'll see how it goes..eek! I'm just really apprehensive about telling everyone.
I think because its the third- I'm not looking forward to the "another one?" looks.
Is that silly??
How are we all feeling today?

Gnomi · 22/12/2011 11:00

Frilly and Poppy, I'm with you on the spots. Aaarrgghh!! When will I ever be spot-free again? It's like being a teenager!

eightiesshopaholic I would definitely complain. I mentor/train people in my job, and I would never leave a trainee unsupervised, particularly with a patient. I think it's terrible. Don't worry about seeing that midwife again, she's almost certainly part of a team, and you could get assigned to someone else.

Got up this morning feeling distinctly queasy and hungry, only to find DH had eaten all the bread. Could have screamed at him, but he'd already left. Toast really settles my tummy, had to eat rice krispies instead so am still feeling sick. Xmas Sad

0FrillyKnickers0 · 22/12/2011 11:25

Do you have a list I can add myself to? Would be nice to know when everyone's due Xmas Smile Went to Dr this morning and filled a form to get appt with midwife. Feels so unreal still. Got my first bounty pack! Wish I wasn't working today...just want to go home and read all about it! I think it works out that I am 4+2 (is that 4 weeks and 2 days?!)

Redbird12 · 22/12/2011 14:04

Hi all, finally finished work for a week so a bit more time to catch up with all your posts (& laze around in PJ's all morning!). Reassuring to hear others are having similar symptoms to me - thirsty, craving carbs, tired, missing a glass of wine on all these Xmas nights out! Felt very nauseous last week whilst Xmas shopping, had to keep coming out of shops to sit down & get some air but that seems to have subsided this week.

So far have got through 3 Xmas do's & my sister's wedding but planning to tell our parents & siblings this weekend so it will be good not to have to pretend any longer, there is only so long you can sip a spritzer very very slowly at an all day event! And they should be excited, will be 1st GC for my mum.

I have my 1st midwife apppointment next Fri, think I am due around 6th Aug so hoping to get scan date before end of Jan as would like to tell work before next work trip abroad on 31st Jan. Still feels a bit unreal! Hope everyone else is feeling ok today and looking forward to Xmas (even if the wine, cheese & pate are off the menu!)

0FrillyKnickers0 · 22/12/2011 14:15

I've never heard of the thirst thing before now...I've had it the last week...very odd.

Angel786 · 22/12/2011 16:15

Hey all, little warning... If you've not heard re your first ante natal appointment follow it up! I'm 8 weeks and hadn't heard re midwife appointment. Turns out uclh didn't receive the referral from my GP!
