Welcoming all those pregnant after miscarriage who need hand-holding, a place to moan, share happy news or just lurk.

It will happen for us this time.

Hey lovelies :)

Have not been able to get on here in about, ooo, a million years - it is SO BLOODY MARVELLOUS to see so many people with their babies having arrived and so many more making good progress!

Fair warms the cockles, you know.

The Owlet is having a snooze so whilst he's resting I thought I'd do what I've been meaning to do for ages and share some useful stuff what I have learnt:

  1. Cribs/cots can be far more use than moses baskets if your baby is likely to be large.
  2. Jumpers are bloody difficult to put on small babies; cardigans are way better.
  3. Lansinoh. Oh yes.
  4. Get a decent sleeping bra or it will actually keep you awake at night (i.e. something with no hooks on the back to dig in)
  5. Buy a kindle. And a cover with a light on it. You can use the light to check for night time poos without waking the baby up too much.
  6. Use a size bigger nappy than you think you need at night as the baby will sleep longer.
  7. Get a changing table that is the right height or you will ruin your back.
  8. Take all the drugs the midwives offer you!

All bloody obvious I know but I wish I'd known these things before! Might add more if I have time - he's woken up, gotta dash :)

Blackkat · 01/12/2011 16:58

Blackkat · 01/12/2011 16:58

And LAF sorry, congrats on viability Grin

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 01/12/2011 17:28

Ok so I am booked in for a sweep on Monday and then provisionally booked in for induction on the 10th. The 10th!!! Shock

Also under mw instructions to have a glass of wine and some sex tonight

But at least I have a plan of action. This is good, right?

owlbooty · 01/12/2011 19:11

Don't worry about the induction. I was booked for one of those and it all happened a couple of days before. However due to things going tits up during labour I got to sample the magic induction drugs anyway. They were not so bad really :)

LAF77 · 01/12/2011 21:18

owl glad to hear from you about life on "the other side". I appreciate all your pointers for coping with a newborn. I am very mindful of my back these days. I've never had any issues in my life, but carrying extra weight has made me realise that things have to be set-up right to stand a chance of a pain free lifting experience. I'm looking at the Stokke change table which is expensive, I know!

thanks for the smack bigmac I like your theory better than my scary google theory. I haven't had it happen today, so it could have been related to what the baby was up to yesterday. I hope that labour has started and you are with your baby now.

I had such a vivid dream about my baby being with me and breast feeding him. However, in my dream, I also left him in the car. Who knows what it all might mean! I'm looking forward to seeing my baby on the screen tomorrow though. Did anyone go for a 4D scan? Was it worth it?

shellshock7 · 01/12/2011 21:44

Hi owl thanks for the tips!

Hope all of you waiting for things to kick off are progressing nicely Grin

LAF my 4D scan is on Sat, very excited...baby is still transverse tho so hoping we get a good look at him. Not got the mega pre scan stress yet, just having a few bad dreams, so hoping this one will be painless? Will report back Smile

Velvetcu · 02/12/2011 01:18

Oh no me has fallen off!

Helloooooo owl glad you are doing well.

Come on ladies it's time for the next baby instalment! Grin

CollieandPup · 02/12/2011 02:35

Ohhh Im here too, always lurking. Come on top of the listers, we are definitely in need of another newborn fix!! It's just amazing on the otherside (and knackering and scary) I can't wait for your bundles to arrive!!! Smile

owl lovely lovely to hear from you! I'd add to your list an electric heater. Especially with a boy and for night feeds. We change in the nursery which was a bit cold once Isaac was stripped. But the heater now takes the edge off and he hardly cries now and the weeing up the wall and projectile poo when nappy is off has reduced!! Grin

LAF77 · 02/12/2011 17:40

shell can't wait to hear about your experience tomorrow. All is good with our baby. The sonographer was most interested in the number of miscarriages I've had and what the cause was. The sonographer said he was a lovely baby with a big tummy and long legs, weighing in at 1lb 11oz, still so tiny! He flashed his willy on the screen! Blush Time will fly by to the next one in 4 weeks with Christmas coming up.

We will look at prams tomorrow again and hopefully decide on one. It feels real on some level, but surreal on others!

Thinking of you ladies with fully cooked babies!

shellshock7 · 03/12/2011 22:42

Hey LAF glad you had a great scan and hope the pram shopping went well Smile

Well I can report back that a 4D scan is amazing and totally worth the cost. Really feel like we have met our baby, he even
looks like my brother! Seeing him look so comfy and chilled out (even tho he is a right fidget!) has made me feel so relaxed and happy. He is 2lb 2 and was right on the 50th centile line on the plot chart so all went well in that dept too....really excited to meet him now Grin

Hope all is good with everyone else Smile

bigmacandhappymeal · 04/12/2011 03:37

shell that's lovely :)

izzy if you bear it, i think i need that baton... it's action stations - I think im leaking waters (will be getting that checked tomorrow), contractions 7 mins apart at the mo, TENS is on, paracetamol chugged, DH asleep but all is well. Hoping to stay at home for as long as poss (assuming this doesn't stop!) ... Strangely excited like it's christmas eve :) Will keep you posted when there's news but I guess it could be a long haul

Lovely to hear from owl and others from t'other side - will read tips

Take care all
xxx

bigmacandhappymeal · 04/12/2011 03:40

Duh * if you can bear it

Biscuitsandtea · 04/12/2011 06:47

Good luck Bigmac xx

stitchinline · 04/12/2011 07:20

Go "bigmac* will be lurking for news. Smile

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 04/12/2011 09:17

Go bigmac !!! Will be hoping for lovely new baby news tomorrow!!

Grin

So, 41+1 now and still no sign Confused. Back to hospital for monitoring last night as baby seems to be going longer between active periods and this is doing nothing to help my paranoia about being overdue! Again, he/she stayed absolutely quiet for half an hour just to really get me worried, then woke up and we got a good trace Hmm

On the plus side, I did get a sweep done as hospital mws not too keen on me going much further overdue because of risk of deterioration to placenta...OUCH!!! I had forgotten how uncomfortable they are! And they've booked me in for a scan on Monday morning (after my sweep appt with community mw) to check placental blood flow etc. this is something that's been worrying me so I'm really glad they're checking it out (but obviously secretly hoping I go into labour today and we don't need it - not looking likely so far!)

Hope everyone else is having a relaxing weekend...

laylasmummy09 · 04/12/2011 09:59

Good luck bigmacim also lurking for news and good luck to you too izzy I hope your sweep did the trick and you are snuggling your baby very soon x

Velvetcu · 04/12/2011 10:28

izzy I hope your sweep gets things going for you and im glad that they are monitoring you

Good luck mac

getawiggleon · 04/12/2011 10:37

Just popping in to say good luck to bigmac and izzy, I hope the sweep gets things moving.
I may brave this thread soon too, we had our 12 week scan on Fri and everything is looking good this time Grin. All perfectly formed and risk of Downs as low as possible for my advancing maternal years age. The consultant reassured us that we will have a baby this time.

owlbooty · 04/12/2011 10:53

Oooh, good luck BigMac !

Just remembered three more things:

  1. Grobags are ace and mean that you don't get woken up cos the baby has booted all the blankets off and they stay warm for night feeds.
  2. In the middle of the night if you need to change the baby it's best to do feed - change- feed rather than feed-feed-change as otherwise the little darling won't go back to sleep. :)
  3. Sainsbury's online ordering and delivery (or tesco etc).
digitalgirl · 04/12/2011 15:00

Good luck bigmac!

izz so sorry to hear you've had another trip to the hospital and a sleepy bean, sorry to hear the sweep hurt, but pleased to hear you're being checked and monitored again tomorrow x x

LAF77 · 05/12/2011 08:05

Good luck bigmac hope to see news of your little one soon!

izzy hope that the sweep helped and you are on your way and today is the day you meet your baby.

blackkat maybe you could make it 3!

Welcome wiggle

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 05/12/2011 08:19

Umm...hope you don't mind bigmac but I just need to borrow that baton again for a second...

...just to let you all know that I had a "twinge" at about 6pm last night followed by pretty quick contractions, waters broke at 9pm and we headed to hospital, where Catherine Hope was born at 9.56pm. She's perfect. I had a few stitches but am feeling fine, if a little sore this morning.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who's been on this long and difficult journey with me, I couldn't have done it without your support. I'm looking fwd to seeing all of your newborn baby news very soon xxx

As you were, ladies...
