hi ladies, sorry not been on much lately, days have been spent hooked onto the pump, and trying to latch ds2 spending as much time as possible skin to skin. saw mw earlier ds has slight jaundice and has lost weight but well within the 10%. the bf mw says to try nipple shields as she thinks he's become used to the taste and feel of the teats.

collie i hope you're ok sweetie.

doo sorry luv i don't know anything about the aspirin taking. i think there are a couple of people on here taking it.

i hope you're all ok.

Freezingmyarseoff · 15/11/2011 22:18

Good luck Cep with the pumping, and they say it's just pregnancy that's glamorous Grin. I found the whole pumping thing rather difficult but then BF isn't exactly easy. Really hope it works for you - i'm impressed at the effort.

Doo I don't know anything about aspirin as not been on it myself but I do knowthat by 37 weeks babies are officially fully cooked so it sounds to me that it would be fine to stop (and important for you own health). Does that help at all?

Night all

CollieandPup · 16/11/2011 10:27

Hi everyone. Blimey it's been quiet the last couple of days!

Thank you all so much for your lovely messages and thoughts about Freddie. Sadly he didn't respond to treatment and he deteriorated Saturday and even more Saturday night. His kidneys were not going to recover and he was suffering, so we had the horrid task of going down on Sunday morning to put him to sleep. I didn't visit him on my birthday as I was just too emotional, but when he saw us on Sunday in contrast to our last visit he instantly calmed. We had 30 precious minutes with him before we had to say goodbye. It's been a sad week, and we can see his brother looking for him around the house. But he seems ok overall.

cep how is beautiful Xzander doing? And how are all the other yummy mummies doing???

What about fellow top of the list-ers?! wiw, lara, izzy, bigmac??? hope you are all doing ok?! Grabs baton- think I'm ready for this now, so no cue jumping please.... I refuse to see 40+12!!

Stitch how was your sewing class? I did one a coupe of months ago too.... Must be a nesting thing! I've successfully reupholstered a chair (although that was with a stapler), made a moses basket cover, lined my bedroom curtains and made a tea towel with left over material. All easy stuff but I felt rather proud of myself!!!

As this is dc1 I have no real idea on mats and pumps but I opted for plastic mats - one upstairs (the wedge one from JL) and another for downstairs. (and extra muslins as a result of velvets recommendation). I have a single electric breast pump, courtesy of DSIL - but I would have still got an electric if I had bought. Couldn't be bothered with a hand one. Mines a single, but some of my mum friends have also suggested a double pump!!

Was down at the day unit yesterday as. Thought I had a slow leak in my waters. Anyway, turns out I don't (sudders at thought it's just me leaking pee), but had lots of monitoring and all is ok. Which given my stressful week was nice and reassuring. I am so ready for him to come now though! One of my good friends was due the day after me-she popped on Saturday!!! She had a boy and he's beautiful....and now I WANT MINE!!!!!

Having a rest day today. Don't know what to do with myself!!!

Collie again so sorry about Freddie, lovely that you had that time with him though and hope his little brother is OK. My sewing class was brilliant ? I do quite a bit of sewing and quilting etc.. and this one was a bit of a design, embroidery and appliqué class so learning some new techniques and generally just fiddling around with like minded people. Did a panel that I?ll use as the centre of a quilt for mini stitch. The shop it was held at had the most beautiful fabrics so I was in heaven for the day :o I love fabric

Glad all was OK after monitoring and was just wee :o

Doo I?m on aspirin (and fragmin) and according to my consultant they?ll review at 36 weeks to see how they?ll manage my anti-coagulation over the birth.

The opinions on mats and pumps has been very helpful ladies so any other useful tips that come to mind please pass this way :0 I need all the help I can get

CollieandPup · 16/11/2011 11:02

Thanksstitch . My sewing class was basically to show me how to use my (brand new) machine! Blush ohhh I'd love to make a quilt! Is it difficult? Do you need a pattern?

My how I met your mother DVD set as just arrived...anyone seen it??? Think I might have just found my days entertainment!!! Smile

OP posts:
stitchinline · 16/11/2011 11:39

collie quilts are as easy or as difficult as you want to make them!

You don't always need a pattern if you are just doing simple blocks but if you want some ideas a great website is the moda bake shop one. It has good instructions etc..

wombatinwaiting · 16/11/2011 15:52

Hi ladies and sorry not to have been on for a while. Had another wobble a couple of days ago but much better now after the realisation last night that this needn't be taken as seriously as I have been taking it and I need to add some daily fun into my life!

doo - re: the asprin - I stopped taking it (on ob/gyn advice) at 34 weeks. Hope that helps....

Went to see ob/gyn yesterday for usual check up and she seems to think all is fine but didn't have any thoughts at all on whether wombatjunior will be late, early or on time - I don't feel vaguely like I'm due to drop yet and have had practically no BH... who knows though! The one thing I do have is group B strep - neither m/w nor ob/gyn seemed worried as long as I have the antibiotics as soon as I go into labour.... anyone else got this or any advice?

cep - well done on your perseverance - hope things get easier soon.

Lemon drizzle cake for all! xx

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 16/11/2011 16:11

Mmmmm....lemon drizzle cake....Smile

wombat I'm not sure you can really predict when it's going to start, and fwiw I don't think presence or absence of BHs are anything to go by; I've been getting them since about week 23 and now seem to get pretty strong ones quite a lot, but no signs of early labour! Glad you're feeling out of the wobble zone a little, it's hard being so near the end, I just want to get it all over with now...

collie I'm so sorry about your cat Sad Sad. Well done on taking over the baton - you're definitely due some good news so hopefully we'll be hearing baby news from you soon Smile

Baby has been behaving since panicking me last week, had 38 wk check yesterday and am 2/5 engaged but obviously baby %233 = that means nothing! My childcare for dcs 1 and 2 (my mum) is currently 4 hours away so ideally I could do with waiting until she comes down next week..

Sorry for rubbish catch up

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 16/11/2011 16:12

Hmm that was supposed to be baby no. 3 NOT baby 233!! Confused

Biscuitsandtea · 16/11/2011 16:15

If it was baby no 233 Izzy I'm sure we'd have read about you already in the Sunday papers Wink

Wombat I never had any BH whatsoever with DS. My waters went at 36+5 and he was born the following day, but not a hint of BH or any early labour sign up until that point. And I seem to recall I'd been to the mw perhaps earlier that week and she didn't think he was engaged at all or anything. There was no sign that anything was imminent (other than the family history that my mum kept reminding me about Confused).

Hope everyone else is ok xxx

wombatinwaiting · 16/11/2011 16:47

Thanks supermum(!) izzy and biscuits about the BH. As I don't feel too uncomfortable, I don't mind keeping birth off for a while as it's the post bit I'm wobbling about!

Oh, and if anyone wants to wonder at the miracle of conception etc. check out this TED clip: www.ted.com/talks/alexander_tsiaras_conception_to_birth_visualized.html?mid=52
Got quite emotional!

cep · 16/11/2011 21:04

collie am so sorry about your cat. i hope you're ok.

wiw sorry about your wibble, but i'm glad you've come away feeling a bit lighter hearted.

i had planned on coming on all euphoric as i managed to get him to latch twice once for a couple of minutes as a top up before he fell asleep and then a proper feed, but then the last feed was a complete disaster, the stupid thing kept coming off, he was chomping on it, and he just couldn't get anything off me. feel like i've fallen back down to earth with a bump. The blasted things are just too big. Will be trying some others tomorrow.

hope you're all ok.

Minnie74 · 16/11/2011 21:08

collie sorry again about Freddie, glad you had some time with him though and he was calmed down too.

wiw I have group B strep too. The midwife in the maternity unit didn't seem too worried but did say that I should go into hospital as soon as waters break for antibiotics to stop infection. She also said if you don't get two lots of antibiotics (in a really fast labour) then the baby would need them too just to be on the safe side. We'll both have to stay in at least 24 hours too while they keep a check on the baby (regardless of how fast labour is)

Had midwife appointment on Monday and I'm 3/5ths (is this engaged or what is not engaged) Baby is still really high up under my ribs though and sleeping is becoming almost impossible unless i sit completely upright.

Had our last antenatal class last night which was really useful. Bit disappointed that it was a really small class though and the other couples weren't really local so probably no chance of meeting up again.

Finishing work on Friday! Grin Will miss it but blood pressure was up a bit on Monday so feel like I am probably doing the right thing.

Minnie74 · 16/11/2011 21:14

cep x-posts Sorry about the struggles you're having with bf-sounds rreally hard. Hope it picks up soon and you're not getting too stressed about it -although I'm sure that's easy for me to say. I'm thinking i'll give it a try but am worried that I might suffocate the poor lad with the size of my enormous boobs! H cup now so dread to think what that means for once they have milk in them. Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 16/11/2011 21:27

cep I also feel for you with the bf thing. It is so stressful. I remember DH having to sit here and try to time how long DS was actually on for as we had terrible trouble getting him to latch on too. We were in hospital for a week (at first for me after a difficult labour, then because he wouldn't feed, so they couldn't send us home, and then his jaundice came out). But anyway, that all meant that DH and I had a lot of time sat around just trying to get him to feed (DS, not DH Confused)

So I do feel your pain a bit - it's really hard going so sending you some hugs and G&B chocolate (which is excellent for milk production apparently Wink)

Minnie I also feel your big boob worries! I'm a HH now and was last time too. I think I ended up a J cup for nursing bras. I hated having non wired bras for the feeding months Sad. I think the thing I found hardest was actually finding a comfy position to feed in. My friends seemed to just sort of hold the baby one armed up against their chest, but I always seemed to have to hold DS 'out' in front of me to be lined up with my boobs. And thus needed to be able to sort of rest him on my legs, which meant i needed to get my feet up on something Confused. I had all manner of cushions and things to try and get comfy and it was ok at home. But I did find it got harder as he got bigger and heavier iyswim.

That probably sounds really garbled, and probably makes no sense whatsoever . Sorry Blush

cep · 16/11/2011 22:53

thanks ladies, is just so frustrating for something that's supposed to be natural.

biscuits my mw suggested holding him as though he were sat with a leg on each side of one of my legs and just support him against the boob.

Biscuitsandtea · 16/11/2011 22:55

Oooh, I never tried that one! I tried rugby ball like, and mainly settled on a sort of cradle hold. Think I might look into more positions this time round though!

bigmacandhappymeal · 17/11/2011 17:56

Hey everyone
Hope all are well? All quiet from me as I've been having a mixture of sorting out the house ,having a bit of a 37-38wk wibble and having a briefly busted laptop

cep hope bf starts to take soon - it sounds as though you couldn't be trying harder to make it work which is very inspirational to read.

minnie - hooray for finishing this Friday - hope you have a splendid last day and some lovely things planned for the next few days?

Thanks for doing the list collie I'm all present and correct :)

How's everyone else doing? It's been

A grumble from me - Had my 38 wk appt today and my BP was too high - getting tested again on Monday and have convinced myself that I now have a headache (idiot idiot idiot). Had a touch of protein in my wee as well so we shall see what Monday brings. Also, the HappyMeal while still engaged head down has turned so that his/her back is now facing my right side (we watched it happen on Tuesday night) which I'm a bit peeved about as I've been religiously laying on my right side, even when I get uncomfortable - anyone else know if this makes a difference? And finally, my pelvis has given up - it really knacks if I walk around/get out of bed/sit up/move my legs. Excellent :)

So in short, collie, please hold onto the baton for a bit ;)

bigmacandhappymeal · 17/11/2011 17:57

gggrrrrrr *it's been very quiet on here lately

cep · 17/11/2011 20:38

alleluya (sp?) bf mw gave me an avent nipple shield and he now latches on every time. i have to have a rolled up towel under my rather large boob to lift it up, (so not bfing outside then Smile ) and a pillow to support him and success. Now however he doesn't want to stop, Grin .

bigmac try to relax, and good luck for the bp test on monday. the ball is supposed to help with positioning i think. not sure what to advise about the pelvis though except just try to take it easy.

dooscooby · 18/11/2011 12:36

Hi everyone, just a quick check in cos it's been really hectic and I'm away this weekend-last time before the arrival-eek!

cep sorry you've found the bf tough going, seems a lot of my friends have too. Well done on persevering though and seems like the shield has helped. Whoever was talking about having big boob-that's certainly not a prob I'll have to worry about, maybe making enough might be?!

bigmac hope you're feeling less wibbly-not much longer of this wibble business left is there (although then starts a whole new set of wibbles I guess!)

Thanks for those who've shared their thoughts on aspirin-bit weird there's no official protocol but gotta trust the consultants advice I guess. She just said it will have done its job by 37 weeks, whereas I want her to say the impossible 'it won't harm your baby and everything will be alright and your baby will be delivered just fine!)

Blackkat · 18/11/2011 15:47

minnie hope your last day at work has gone ok, so pleased you've decided to finish this week rather than next! Smile Feet up next week xx

Doo enjoy your last weekend away, are you going anywhere nice? Re the breast pump discussion, I[ve not bought one yet, just to save the expense/guilt if I can't BF. All the people I've asked have suggested the medela electric pump - double barrelled!

cep so pleased that the BF seems to be going better now, I can imagine that's a huge relief.

WiW and Bigmac hope the wibbles are subsiding Smile FX for you on Monday mac

happy weekends x

Hi all
I'm feeling a bit better today thanks - mainly because one of the ladies I really like from NCT had to be induced today (as her waters had broken) and I'm a) really happy for her and b) feeling pleasantly envious... so while I'm still high on the BP front, stretched to buggery and pelvicly challenged, actually I'm now feeling positive about meeting the HappyMeal again :) Thanks for all your nice words everyone.

Excellent list work blackkat - I can't believe there are that many of us who are full term at the top!

cep brilliant news re the latching - well done

Have smashing weekends everyone
