How heartbreaking to read about Freddie collie pets are part of the family, no doubt about it. I'll pray for a little miracle for him.

Biscuitsandtea · 12/11/2011 09:45

Just wanted to say thinking of you Collie and your poor cat. Hope he can be as comfortable as possible and I'm praying for a little miracle that the treatment starts to work. Brought a year to my eye when you said he cried when he saw you Sad.

Do take care and look after yourselves xxx

Minnie74 · 12/11/2011 11:10

collie just dropping in to say I'm so sorry about little Freddie. Can't imagine how I'd cope if it was one of mine so completely understand how dreadful you feel. Pets are such a massive part of your life. Keeping my fingers crossed for a miracle for him. Take care x

bigmacandhappymeal · 12/11/2011 11:16

Oh collie I'm really sorry that you are having such a rotten time. I hope you manage to have a least a little bit of a nice birthday and I'll be thinking of you over the next couple of days

biscuits hurrah for a fab scan and welcome to the list! Good to see that the glue and stapler have been applied

cep you've made me come over all funny with your lovely message. I also don't know what I would have done over the last year without the FO room and this board

Right, should I carry on watching the awful but brilliant Calamity Jane or start doing chores... hmmmm.

bigmacandhappymeal · 12/11/2011 11:46

Ps crazy batshit mental dreams have started up again - last night I dreamt that Steve Brookstein (sp?) from X Factor a few years ago had retrained and was my midwife. Awful.

harassedandherbug · 12/11/2011 11:49

Oh collie I'm so sorry about Freddie. We had to have our dog pts nearly 3 yrs ago (actually it was this time of year he got ill). He was 10 (but that's young for a cocker) and he got an auto immune condition so basically his body was killing his blood cells. It was horrendous and we tried everything we could, but you just know when it's the right thing to do. We also didn't have insurance and it cost us over £700. But we felt we just had to try everything we could. There's still a Jas sized hole, but now I'm confident we did the right thing. Personally, I'd go and visit as you'll kick yourself afterwards but can understand why dh doesn't want you to. Try and have a nice birthday, thinking of you lots xx

cep you made me cry....... You girls have been such a huuuge support, I couldn't have got through this without you all x

biscuits yaay to fab scan!

Velvetcu · 12/11/2011 12:20

collie I hope you are ok, how rubbish that this is happening on your birthday. My dog is my baby so I know how hard it is when they're ill

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 12/11/2011 12:45

Big (((hugs))) for collie - I hope you're ok and will be praying for Freddie to turn a corner soon x

LILI80 · 12/11/2011 20:17

Just wanted to say congratulations cep ! Fab news xx

collie Pets are a huge part of our lives, and don't worry you may have had some awful luck just recently but your baby will bring you so much happiness. Really hope your cat picks upxxx

Purpletoes · 12/11/2011 23:31

Just to add my congratulations too cep well done!

collie so sorry about your cat. Hope things start looking up soon and you enjoyed your birthday as much as you can.

I may have overdone the trying to be social whilst 6 months pregnant this week am absolutely shattered now but I had fun! Grin

wombatinwaiting · 13/11/2011 05:37

Huuuuuuge congrats cep and well done on managing with just g&a. HEre's hoping Xander manages some decent breast feeding soon. Thanks for your v kind words too - couldn't agree more Smile

Stupid qu I'm sure, but why do you need painkillers for after pains only for DC2 and beyond and not with DC1?

Freaking out somewhat to be second on the list. I have to say that I don't feel as if it's going to be any time soon. Ob/gyn appt on tues which I am looking forward to - I have only put on 700g in the last 6 weeks.... 12 kgs before that though so I hope all is ok. Terrible night's sleep last night plus parents are trying my patience somewhat so feeling pretty shattered all round - planning to take it very easy from now on.

I'm so sorry to hear about darling Freddie collie - not what you need right now, especially when it's your birthday. We eventually had to have our gorgeous Suki dog pts back in August after complications after a car accident - so very, very hard to make the decision even though it was the right one in the end. I am thinking of you lots xx

Delighted to hear that you are firmly stapled down biscuits!

Great news on being signed off harassed - hope you manage a bit of me time now and gold medals all round for your lovely DH.

Waves to all and leaves fresh crepes and fillings x

Biscuitsandtea · 13/11/2011 08:22

WIW, here's a link about afterpains. It sound as though, in theory, you get then after birth in all cases but I've heard lots of people say its worse for DC2 and subsequent. I remember my mum telling me about afterpains when she had me, and that they were terrible when she bf me (I was - and am! - her second).

Reading that article it seems you get them after the first birth too although I never noticed them with ds. And I've only ever heard people complain of them for second + births, so much so I actually thought you didn't get them for the first one (until I just read that!)

Hope that helps. Sorry my post is so garbled, brain not engaged yet zzzzzzzz

lily06 · 13/11/2011 10:35

Delurks to say a huge congrats to Cep, I remember when you got your bfp on the just mc thread and I'm so pleased for you that all has gone well x

katherine2008 · 13/11/2011 16:28

cep congrats - hope that things are going well and little Xander is feeding better x

wombatinwaiting · 13/11/2011 16:45

Thanks biscuits for the link - intersting. I wondered if it was because the process of giving birth the first time is so overwhelming you just don't notice it!

shellshock7 · 13/11/2011 18:05

hey biscuits congrats on the 20 week scan, good to see you over here Smile

izzy glad things have settled down after your scare....baby will be here in no time now!

so sorry to read about your cat collie, hope you are doing ok

Nothing to report here, illness still hanging on GP reckons its a bug that I'm having trouble fighting off as low immune system when preggo...but I wish it would go! Physio was a bit odd...she is not sure it is PGP, which would be good, but she doesn't know what it is, so have a gym ball to sit on and do pelvic exercises and a support to wear...go back in a coupla weeks to see if any improvement.

Mum and Dad are getting my changing bag for me for xmas, so went shopping for that...gone for a pacapod one, it is so me with its super organisation...stitch as a known fellow extreme list maker you may be interested! And we chose a moses basket (but not bought) too, very exciting Smile

Hope you all had a good weekend...I'll will leave you the most chocolatey brownies I've ever made, got loads left as I am on bland food only at the mo, total nightmare with these lying around Grin

cep · 13/11/2011 21:30

thank you for all the good wishes ladies.

collie Thankyou for your lovely words, so sorry for Freddie, and don't feel silly for being upset as the others said they are a member of the family. I hope you managed to enjoy your birthday anyway.

lily06 hi, thankyou for coming out, Grin how are you doing?

we're doing ok, Xander is still not latching and i'm trying to express as much as i can to bring the milk in which as it's only just building is frustrating as he has to have both mine and formula milk. I'll be calling the mw tomorrow to get more advice and hopefully she'll be coming back out to me. Must go as he's crying now. hope you're all ok.

stitchinline · 14/11/2011 16:30

collie so sorry about Freddie :(, I hope that despite everything you managed to have a lovely birthday and I am sure that there are lots of good things to come your way after such a rubbish time so far.

cep lovely to hear from you, hope you can sort the feeding out soon

shellshock will look at those ? am sure they will appeal to my organisational requirements from the sounds of things. I was going to get a lovely leather one but my mother talked me out of it and I bought a lovely new handbag instead Wink

wiw am quite glad my mother isn?t planning to come until post birth and not sure dad will at all... I feel your pain with the exhaustion of parental visits.

Good for you getting signed off harassed I am really struggling at the moment and am only 24 weeks, thankfully planning to finish at 30 weeks so not too much longer sitting at my desk in agony.

Desperatly want to buy a bouncy ball thingy but as we are about to get our house painted and going to have to move entire contents of bedroom into living room there is no way I can get one yet.

Yay for biscuits on the list :o

Had a lovely but busy weekend, spend all day yesterday doing a lovely sewing class and although exhausted by the end it was such a nice way to spend a Sunday. Also managed a bit of Christmas shopping so feeling quite smug, determined to get it all done and posted by the end of November as sick of the last minute posting stress. Had a look at booking flights home for next June as some specials around but DH now in shock at the £400 for the baby ticket, Shock.

Hope you all had lovely weekends

dooscooby · 15/11/2011 07:38

Morning! Yesterday was a quiet one in here, hope everyone is ok? Really sorry to hear about freddie collie, hope youre doing ok in the circumstances.

How are the rest of the top of the listers doing?

harassed congrats on starting m/l-although i wish you didnt have to endure the pain. I'm getting really desparate to leave work now, i feel like i need to move on from work mentally now and prep for birth & baby!

So, any experienced mums have views on changing mats and expressing pumps? Theyre two things on my list which i havent yet really thought about yet. Re the mats, is plastic the best way (cant say i really like the look or feel) but would i regret buying anything else if its going to get poo all over it? Do you need one for that matter? And pumps....where do i start, should prob take myself over to the product reviews on here....!

LILI80 · 15/11/2011 08:36

Hi dooscoby

I bought two plastic changing mats with my DD, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. I know what you mean about the feel of them and they can get quite cold so I used to put a towel down on mine so DD wouldn't get a shock!

They are a god send though as they're so easy to clean and the number of accidents we had we needed something that was easy to clean!

Re breast pumps. I had a manual pump but have bought an electric one this time round. I found the manual pump really hurt my wrist and I had to pump for ages to get anyting out! Although my friend has got a manual and she gets loads of milk out!

I haven't used the electric but I'm hoping that it will work for me and cut down on the time it takes to get some milk out.

collie how are you chick? sending you hugsxx

cep how're you getting on? xxx

Biscuitsandtea · 15/11/2011 11:07

Doo - not sure I'd class myself as 'experienced', but I'll tell you what I think on changing mats and pumps!

Re the changing mats I think you have to go plastic. Even if you put a towel down if they don't like the cold. There will be accidents and you'll want something wipe clean. Especially if you're having a boy (I don't remember if you know, or what you're having?). DS used to wee practically every nappy change at one time. You had to have a really swift practised action for 'old nappy out and new one on and covering everything up'!!

Also, because he used to wee so much I rarely bothered with putting a towel down unless he didn't have a top on. If they stay clothed while being changed it shouldn't be too cold.

I do know what you mean though about not liking the feel or look of them, and I'm quite picky as I think some feel cheaper and nastier than others!

Breast pump wise I had an electric one but never really got on with it. I could never get much out, but then I never stuck with it for that long, and DS would never take a bottle anyway, so I really never bothered that much with it. I did use it I seem to recall when I had mastitis? DS still fed as that was the best thing to do for it, but I seem to recall perhaps I pumped afterwards to make sure I was getting plenty through or something? Can't remember clearly but that does ring a bell....

Biscuitsandtea · 15/11/2011 11:08

Also - Collie how are you doing? Thinking of you xx

Hope everyone else is doing ok xxx

Velvetcu · 15/11/2011 12:32

doo I have plastic mats which I put a muslin on so no worries when it gets pee'd and pood on. I have the tommee tippee electric pump and I love it Smile

Freezingmyarseoff · 15/11/2011 13:03

Haven't been on here for ages so I'm completely out of touch but wanted to catch up again

Firstly, congratulations to Cep wonderful news about Alexander.

Secondly, sorry to Collie about your cat Freddie. But also wow, you're at the top of the list, how is up there? Time has flown by to me.

Izzy sorry to hear about your scare, but glad the cold water worked eventually. Naughty baby

Doo about changing mats, last time we got a plastic one that had plastic backed towels you could velcro in place. I thought it was quite good, so we've ended up getting the same again as it finally ripped last year. We don't need anymore towel mats though

Waves to everyone else, I will catch up slowly

dooscooby · 15/11/2011 13:54

Ah, thanks for the thoughts/tips on pumps and mats ladies. I found a wedgy type plastic mat on John Lewis website that is really plain and gets good reviews, so that's one thing ticked off. Interesting you like the tommee tippy pump velvet - I ventured over to the which reviews and it didn't do that well, people seemed to prefer the medala ones, but sometimes it's just a personal preference thing isn't it.

Feeling a bit nervous today - I'm due to stop taking the aspirin at 36+6 and as I approach this I'm getting scared. I emailed the consultant who I no longer see and although she was nice, she didn't really provide any reassurance that baby would be ok when i stopped it, just that I needed to stop for risk of bleeding in delivery. Anyone else prescribed aspirin and able to give me a talking to?!

izzy how are your movements since your scare? I hope you're getting lots of wriggling for reassurance. Ugh, roll on the end of the day....
