bigmacandhappymeal · 20/09/2011 10:18

Oops and irene how was the antenatal class? We're booked onto the romantic sounding "Parentcraft" on 8th October which the NHS puts on down here...

Daisybell1 · 20/09/2011 11:39

Morning all!

How are the non-sleepers? A bit better I hope? I'm finding it easier at the moment and am wondering if its because the weather's cooled a bit... I'm on a knackered old roll together mattress and I think that may have got me through... Plus one of those v-shaped pillows - one bit under bump and other between my legs seems to work.

Milky I am also Envy of your weight gain, and am also Envy of Collie's. Having got on the scales this morning I've put on 3 1/2 stone Blush. But my midwife told me that if you're not hungry, its ok, just keep up the fluids. I clearly appear to have been drinking liquid lard!

Izzy I want Poppy as a name now! Its lovely.

Doos great news that you're going shopping this weekend - we will look forward to details especially if its a pram

Velvet

IreneHeron · 20/09/2011 13:02

Velvet so glad your scan went well.

Bigmac fellow cancerian here Smile. Glad your DH isn't losing his job. You'll get used to the hour changes although I'm sure if you are like me you'll be counting the minutes until he gets home at night. I remember that well when DS was a baby.

The antinatal class was really good although I got lost and was late so missed a big chunk of it. Having a class for a second baby is actually more useful than I thought it would be. My experience last time helped me put things into context better. I think they seemed a bit unreal and abstract last time although the teacher was good. I feel really positive about achieving a natural birth, I've been a bit scared of it up until now. I can really see how last time I was on a hiding to nothing trying to labour and the cs was inevitable as I was induced and strapped to monitors unable to move. I'm going to try and get the remote monitor if it happens again like that. No wonder contractions kept stopping as I wasn't moving about much and midwives kept telling me to sleep.

Daisy I'm still struggling to sort out my bags, have added Kamillosan and Anusol to the bag. Good to have that stuff handy as sadly piles and sore nips are very common problems. Glad you're all ready, good luck. Hope things kick off for you soon.

IreneHeron · 20/09/2011 13:04

Gah, forgot to say our car insurance people have written off our car after a minor prang. Some tit in an Audi overtook us on the slip to the A1 and scraped 3 panels and the wing mirror. Sadly because ours is such a rustbucket it isn't worth repairing. Now we've got to get a new one quick. Couldn't bear not having a car getting this close to due date.

milkyways · 20/09/2011 13:55

Congratulations on the scan velvet! Great news miniV is growing nicely!

Irene glad you had a good nights sleep. Had to wake up DH last night to massage my lower back as it was aching so much. I really should teach him how to "massage" rather than poke his fingers and thumbs into my spine!
That's interesting info about the parent class too - I'm glad going for the second baby proved helpful for you. My first labour sounds alot like yours - I was induced and couldn't move about either. Hopefully the classes will help me too!

bigmac Hope you're feeling a bit better now? Great news on MrB's job though!

IreneHeron · 20/09/2011 14:07

Milky the midwife at our antinatal class said the best way to massage was to use a tennis ball, especially if you have a partner who moans about hand ache or as you said pokes thumbs too much.

Youremindmeofthebabe · 20/09/2011 14:29

ooh I was just going to say that irene! A tennis ball is AMAZING, a new found and lush addition to a massage here. You can even do it by yourself standing against a wall if no partner to hand!

cep · 20/09/2011 14:30

velvet yay on the scan results.

bigmac glad dh isn't being made redundant.

irene sorry bout the car, hope you find something great in time.

am also a cancerian. Grin

PinkFondantFancy · 20/09/2011 15:33

Hello everyone! I am still lurking! daisy I've been thinking of you and I am so impressed with how calm you seem to be.

Irene so annoying about your car!! Hope you can sort a new one soon.

velvet stay away from work!!!! They will be fine without you and you need the rest.

On natural birth stuff, I had been using a natal hypnotherapy cd for a few weeks before the birth which I found really calming. I also did pregnancy yoga which saved my bacon as practicing breathing before the event really helped.

Big shoutout for my lifetwin mamap - I am hoping for news of your little one v v soon

Minipink is just perfect and beautiful. Not keen on sleeping but luckily my mum is staying at the mo and her moral support is massively appreciated-she took the baby for a couple of hours last night to give me my first sleep in 30 hours.... She is so worth it though Grin

PinkFondantFancy · 20/09/2011 15:33

Sorry for lack of personals, I am avidly following the thread tho

CollieandPup · 20/09/2011 15:54

Does minikpink have a name yet? So glad your both doing so well pink. Yay for helpful mum! Interesting what you said about pg yoga. I really fancy it but there is nowhere local doing it, but maybe it would be worth a journey.

Daisybell1 · 20/09/2011 19:24

Evening ladies - still here! Consultant was horrible and very brusque but after OH stared her down, she's booked us in for induction on Thursday. Am having a slight wibble over whether i've done the right thing but at least i've got a date. At least my lovely nutcase mental health midwife will be around to hold my hand on duty.

Lovely to hear from you Pink. Sorry to hear about your car Irene, what a bind at this time and thank you for the pile cream reminder - glamorous Grin

Waves to all!

bigmacandhappymeal · 20/09/2011 20:55

daisy Really glad that you've got something sorted... A wibble is pretty understandable. In one way it's brilliant as baby will be here soon, in another way - argh! The unknown! In the meantime, think of the pram useage you will soon be having... am I right that it's one for every day of the week Wink ? And who knows what else you might find on ebay over the next couple of days...

Hi pink! Great to hear from you :) I've got that natal hypno CD and book. Am going to crack them open soon. Lovely that your mum is there for you both. Come on now, spill the beans on the name!

Lovely to see so many cancerians :)

Have come home and had the obligatory snot bubble cry and feel a bit better now. Stupid hormones. I'll just get this week out of the way and I'll feel a bit better. I hate horrible management situations. And you're right, it is great news about MrB's job.

Thanks for the antenatal class write up irene. Interesting about first vs second time attendance...

collie how are you doing? Do I need to haddock you as well today :) ? The joy of living in Brighton is that there is preggers yoga/pilates/angel therapy/you name it (apart from aquazumba Envy ) coming out of our ears. :)

bigmacandhappymeal · 20/09/2011 20:57

sorry for over use of emoticons.

Daisybell1 · 20/09/2011 21:34

PS can I have some advice on something? Have bought a little cute t-shirt for baby which I was thinking of wrapping up and giving to OH as a thank you for looking after me so well for the last 9months. Cute idea or do I deserve to be flamed? I don't normally do cute...

Sorry am on phone, will name-check properly tomorrow.

Velvetcu · 20/09/2011 22:13

Oohh daisy glad OH sorted the consultant and that you have a date. I don't do cute either but was thinking of doing a similar thing with an item of clothing

PinkFondantFancy · 21/09/2011 01:41

Mini pink is called Persephone Amelia Grin

PinkFondantFancy · 21/09/2011 06:27

daisy I think that sounds like a lovely idea!

PinkFondantFancy · 21/09/2011 06:41

Oops I didn't read the main part of your post daisy . I think you've done the right thing and well done to OH for helping you stand your ground with dr. I would put real money on daisybean starting to wriggle free herself this avo or tonight now you've got an induction date....

collie I also used a DVD a bit 'pregnancy health yoga with Tara Lee' which was pretty good. The classes were better but if it's a long way it's hard to go when you're already tired.

bigmac it's amazing how much better a quick cry and snotter makes you feel, isn't it! I'm keen to give aqua zumba a go-there's a class near here but you have to wear swimming caps at that pool apparently it makes your legs turn to a shaking mess afterwards because you end up working hard by accident. Think I'll give it a go in the new year.

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 21/09/2011 08:18

Just a quick one as got to do school run but velvet yay for good scan!! And daisy yay for the eviction notice - I know it's scary but at least you know you'll get to meet her this week Smile

lovely to hear from you, and Persephone's lovely!! Smile

heading off to mw straight after school for blood tests to check for oc after random hand/arm itching - hopefully nothing though Confused

bigmacandhappymeal · 21/09/2011 09:03

I love the name Persephone pink AND Amelia (which is on our shortlist). Absolutely and genuinely beautiful.

Swimming caps - agree the boak. My bone structure does not allow for such things. And also agree the a snot session was the only way forward.

hope all is well izzy

daisy really like the idea of the t-shirt. I also don't do cute but if we can't do it now, when the hell can we :)

By eck ladies, did I have cramp last night! I'm not sure what woke me up first, the cramp or my bellow of pain and significant swear. Meant to say as well that I'm seeing the Consultant anaesthetist (sp?) on Friday. I damaged a disc in my back in December and they want to suss out whether it means that I can't have an epidural. Gulp.

CollieandPup · 21/09/2011 09:55

Morning lovelies!!!!

velvet YAY for miniv gaining so much weight! I wonder if such growth spurts are normal? I can go 2 weeks and feel like I haven't grown and then a couple of days later my belly has ballooned!!! I really hope you are not working too much and are resting!!

Irene what a pain about your car prang! Not what you need I'm sure!

bigmac yay for MrB keeping job although long days suck! At least he can move to a better job in his terms now though, and not in desperate panic. Boo to not being able to car share, DH and I used to car share, although actually sometimes I'm quite glad we don't anymore as when we were busy that hr journey turned into a planning session of jobs to be done and he would drive me crazy

How are you feeling today bigmac? less snotty I hope Grin ! I think teary snotty days are compulsory! My Mums DP had to have his 17yr old dog put down on Monday. I don't really know the dog that well, and he never really took to me- ALWAYS growled at me- but I found myself blubbering all over the place at the Sad news!!!

Daisy Great news on having a date. V V scary I am sure but equally amazing!! The next stage of your journey will soon be here and I just know you're going to be great!! Enjoy today! Ps think the t-shirt is a lovely idea. I plan to take DH out for a fancy last singleton meal just before pup arrives to say thank you which I also get to enjoy

Milky how was your parentcraft class? My first was last night too! It was ok. Better than I expected and some of the couples more friendly than at the NCT. found out about local pregnancy pilates class in nearby village which I can't actually believe I didn't know about but am now super excited about. Ideally wanted pg yoga for the breathing, anyone done pg pilates?

Also found out that they have just introduced something called 'domino birth' in my area which means I can plan a hospital birth, but can be supported by my cmw to say at home as long as possible first. She'll come out to my house, and then to hospital with me to continue providing my care unless there are complications. Sounds VERY appealing, although do need more details.

Pink Persephone Amelia is a beautiful name!! How elegant!

Good luck Izzy at mw.

All ok here. Sleeping better last night. Just sitting here watching stomach ripple!! Smile

Blackkat · 21/09/2011 11:55

Hello all,

Pink what a lovely name, really beautiful and unusal too. So glad your DM is there to lend a hand and that you got some sleep yesterday.

Daisy glad OH sorted things for you - it sounds like you've made the right decision about tomorrow. I'm so excited to hear more news about Daisybean
I will be thinking of you xxx
(oh and I think the present idea is lovely, really lovely, might well steal it - the idea not the t-shirt obviously!)

Irene how awful about the car - really hope you get a new one fixed up soon

Velvet yay for minivelvet so pleased that all is well. Growth spurts seem very normal I think. Hope you are enjoying being off work and are getting some proper rest for the nagging spd?

Izzy hope the blood tests go smoothly and FX it's not OC. Any name decisions?

Bigmac snottering on a routine basis is obligatory isn't it? Grin So pleased that Mrbigmac has job confirmed, though the commute thing doesn't sound so fun - partic when it sounds like you had a good routine and balance going on before. FX he finds something closer to home soon.

irene yrmotb thanks so much for tennis ball tip -

Collie hope you are getting some proper rest, please don't go back before the note says you should, all the rest you get now will help out later. Smile
I did pilates before I was updiffed, couldn't continue when I was pregnant because the teacher wasn't trained - but the core muscle work and the breathing will really help you with posture and labour.

minnie hope all well with you? Did I see you post a good link to a pregnancy pilates/yoga DVD somewhere? Could you resend pls?

irene, Milky glad all antenatal and parenting classes are going ok, I've still not been given notification of my NHS ones - I did check with the midwife last week, but she said I should hear at 30 weeks...which is next week...might give them a call.

So, we've still not bought a thing for the baby, still feeling too anxious. A good friend gave me a gentle talking to at the weekend and suggested that perhaps I do need to start buying a few things, or asking my Mum to do so and keep them at her house. Being a newbie, do I really need to buy loads of clothes? Surely, even given copious amounts of sh*t and puke a couple of multipacks of babygros will suffice with some socks and hats and stuff. Oh and yes nappies. But will that do until it's here and I know I can legitimately and cheerfully buy more stuff order online and have it delivered?

to Harassed cep and lara

hotnspicyonions · 21/09/2011 12:11

Hi to all they may remember me. I've had a mad few months and have just found this thread. So I've been having a catch up with all the goings on, including the sad news on Magic8. I'm sitting here in floods of tears when DP walks in and says, "Are you crying?" All I could do was nod and he said "Why?" All I could croak was "MN" and he replied "Why do you do it to yourself?!" Men just don't understand eh?!
Congratulations to Owl pink and wombat and anyone else I may have missed through my tears and snottiness!
Daisy keeping an eye on you too! Good luck for tomorrow.
Tunnocks How's things with you DDate twin?
We're currently encamped at my Mums as we are having a new kitchen fitted (5 weeks before DD, great timing Wink). Luckily she's on holiday so it was fab timing for us to move in and not deal with the carnage of living through no water/cooking facilities etc. So would have left some lovely homemade stuff but am having a break from it at the mo. My little one is moving around loads and seems to be heads down ready for exit. But can't come before 1st October as there's nowhere to put baby in Mums house :)
Will catch up again soon when the tears have subsided!

Youremindmeofthebabe · 21/09/2011 13:01

blackkat definitely agree that amount of clothes will probably be fine, make sure you buy a couple of sizes. All I got was 8lb baby things and 0-3 months and DS was teeny and all clothes swamped him til we went shopping.. All the good stuff has slightly more of a gender bias anyway- you are team yellow, right? Baby gap socks are the best ones for staying on little feet- sounds crazy- why would all socks not stay on- but they don't! And Tesco babygrows seem to fit well, better than Asda, ime. And a nice neutral cardie and you're done!
