I've been getting it from all directions for not wanting to breastfeed and am finding it very hard not to give in to the pressure, My reasons for not wanting to breastfeed are that i have back problems and will need to be on painkillers am currently only on paracetamol and in constant pain can not be in this pain with a baby and i may not always be able to do all feeds if i am in to much pain anyway, also i have a very stong bond with my niece which i believe came from being able to feed her as a baby and would not want to deprive DP of that experiance since i enjoyed it so much.

I keep being asked 'why do u not even want to try it's best for your baby' and on a few occations 'is it not worth the pain to do the best for baby' finding it very very hard not to crack under the disaproving looks has anyone else had to deal with shit over not BF??

Tosh MrUmble, sorry. All the info says is that it helps protect and reduces risk of things. If you have seen something else send it my way.

Lie.
If anyone asks, and you are sick of justifying your decision, lie. Or avoid the question.
I am in a similar but opposite position, iyswim. I can't be arsed to stop bf my 18 mo. ( love being able to stop her crying in the evening when she's tired by waving a boob at her )
My family made it clear they think its freaky and unnatural to bf someone who can walk and talk. Dh is supportive, and we just don't discuss it with anyone else, its no one else's business but ours. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed by my decision to carry on, but I do feel it has got sod all to do with anyone else.
I would say its the same for you. None Of Their Business.
Good luck, and don't let this dominate what should be a lovley time for you all.

And captain the op never asked for advice she asked if anyone else was getting a hard time for not breastfeeding

NinkyNonker · 14/09/2011 20:30

And yes, exactly what ifailed says too. Op, you don't have to explain to any nosey, judgemental so and so. Feel reassured we all get it, whichever milk we go with. I dodge Ferdinand questions as am still feeding my 13 mo old which some find odd (fee of my friends got to 6 mo) but when I had to feed her at a recent lunch I got some pretty horrified looks and the odd snide comment. Some people are just judgemental, doesn't make it your problem.

I'm just waiting till people find out I'm pregnant and still feeding...oh the horror!

Ferdinand questions?! Feeding!

Scheherezade · 14/09/2011 20:31

I'm the opposite, I desperately want to BF my child, because I want the 100% absolute best for him. DP really wants me to breastfeed, for the same reasons - but today I was being pushed by my Drs not to, because I have to take seriously damaging medication to the baby.

I think we are going to try hit a compromise - if I can just stay in hospital with the baby, so I am off meds, but breastfeeding. I'd rather be seriously ill myself (but alive!) but my baby have the best start he can. I'm not being a martyr, uits just my choice.

I have FF all 3 DCs. I have several very good reasons for not breastfeeding which I no longer feel the need to explain to others. Please remember it is your choice & no-one elses. Sure, your DP can bond with the baby in other ways but that is not your only reason for FF is it? IMHO, your baby will benefit more from a happy, pain free (as much as possible) mummy who uses formula than from being BF by a poorly mummy in constant pain. Be strong Smile.

Ferdinand questions - that's it, Ninky - just go deaf. Am I Ferdinanding him? No, we decided on the name Carlos. Congratulations on your pg!
