Wowsas... Sometimes it's hard to believe there is life on the "other side"... I think many of us (well me at least) are in denial that this fat belly might just result in a little baby further down the line.

An aside note... I really hope HR don't google my history / search terms. Last week there was all sorts of thrush related stuff (takes too long to google it on my blackberry) and I just googled "do all pregnant women's belly buttons pop out?" (In case you're wondering mine is a definite "inny"). Am hoping that with some of the stuff I google, it's just so gross that HR would be embarrassed to quiz me about it.

owlbooty · 11/07/2011 15:27

Forgot to say - whoever it was who was asking about the Spatone sachets - I have had a bugger of a time digesting the ferrous fumarate (Fersamal) tablets I got prescribed. So I've been taking 1 x tablet every other day and supplementing that with either 1 x spatone or 2 x spatone on the days I haven't had the tablet. My iron levels have gone up from 10.3 to 10.7 in 3 weeks - so I would say they work, coupled with plenty of iron-rich food (i.e. red meat, chocolate, spinach, lentils etc). They don't make me feel sick either.

Daisybell1 · 11/07/2011 16:38

Right, where's that Pink woman???

Have just read her comments on the pork pie thread, and now I want one REALLY BADLY

Grin

She started me off on set yogurts too!

cep · 11/07/2011 16:42

afternoon ladies,

Grin at all the new customers of pacapod they just look so useful but tylish as well.

bigmac hope scan went well.

bigmacandhappymeal · 11/07/2011 18:43

Blimey, just managed to delete my post. Brian is calling I think.

I'm delighted to say that the scan went really well and we have a healthy, wriggly baby, bang on due date. Also relief as my stupid placenta is not so stupid after all and has moved up out of the way! Phew. We are currently Team Yellow - I say that because we got the sonographer to write the sex down and it is now in a sealed envelope which will now drive me mad which I am completely fine with. Seemed like a good idea at the time :)

Lara I know. 14 - 17 weeks seemed to take an age and then all of a sudden today arrived. Bonkers. 9 days will pass suprisingly fast for you too I'm sure. Especially if you are on a Colin-related high. The happymeal movements are not regular by any means and oft-confused with wind. Most of the time, happily for MrBigMac, it would appear that it is not my over-active bottom though. It will happen for you.

daisy when you find Pink, tell her I also had to succumb to the calling of pork pies and a mint magnum but I can't pin that on her

I think I'm brave enough to update the list now and start shopping

Have a lovely evening all

PinkFondantFancy · 11/07/2011 18:54

Haha daisy I have had two mini pork pies and two french set yogurts today Grin I am soooo addicted-all I can think about is pork pies!! Really glad your second antenatal appointment was better.

thanks owly I feel much better knowing I'm not the only one.

Lara mine was an innie but overnight one night became an outie Grin I was wearing quite a tight dress to a wedding at the weekend and looking at the photos you could see my outie through the dress

bigmac how did your scan go?

Erm advice needed please-could do with getting things moving again as have been constipated for days Blush. I have tried drinking litres and litres of apple juice and a whole bag of prunes but nothing is working!! I don't really want to have to go to the doctor....

PinkFondantFancy · 11/07/2011 18:58

bigmac crossed posts-fab news on the scan! Do you think you'll open the envelope? I'm not sure I would have even got ad far as the car before ripping it open! Did i start the mint magnum thing? Brian made me forget whether ive already banged I'm about this but I am COMPLETELY addicted to mint magnums too although at least I've managed to restrain myself to one a day unlike my two a day of everything else habit Grin

bigmacandhappymeal · 11/07/2011 19:06

pink will then blame you for mint magnum addiction but am not convinced you started it! If I'm honest, I think I will be ripping it open v soon but just giving MrBicMac his dues for a bit.

On the constipation front, it is worth seeing GP - mine prescribed Lactulose and it did the trick (as did fresh apricots, apple juice and cherries - not all at once but in one day). Also, try cups of boiled water (thanks nanabigmac)

Blackkat · 11/07/2011 21:11

Really pleased that the scan went well bigmac, get yourself on the list.

I've got a "reassurance" appt at the midwife tomorrow to listen to the HB, they rock, helpful bcs my 20 wk scan isn't until 21 wks, seems to be going so slowly.

pink raw carrots, the way forward, seems to do the trick for me and always have done. Smile

owl step away from the hoe Smile just some gentle harvesting and eating methinks.

cep you so should be on commission, showed DH and he thought they were great too

pork pies, magnums and cheese on toast all round

Daisybell1 · 12/07/2011 07:24

Ladybird we're keeping your bean bag warm for when you feel like returning - come back soon!

Owl I think you're spot on - its the jealousy of other people's care free happiness at their pregnancy which gets me/us. Group hugs all round. Thanks for the ball sizes info - I think I'll go for the largest as can then always under-inflate, can't it?

Wey hey for BigMac and the happy meal! So glad it went well, and yay for the envelope (go on, you know you want to Wink)

Blackkat Good luck today, lovely to have sympathetic midwives who can reassure Grin

Hello to everyone else

Have a question - has anyone else's OH suddenly hit the realisation of what's happening and turned into an emotional wreck? My 'don't do emotion' farmer has turned into a complete jelly!!! Bless him..

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 12/07/2011 07:41

Quick wave to all and a yay!! to bigmac for a great scan! Grin Grin

Am intrigued by pacapods...they look fab but pretty expensive - anyone managed to find a good deal on them online?

Re iron supplements: have you tried floradix/floravital? I find it easy to take and works quite well without side effects of constipation etc!

Anyway sorry for brief msg - will catch up properly soon xx

owlbooty · 12/07/2011 08:57

Whoop! For the good scan BigMac and hoorah also for Kat 's lovely MWs doing reassurance appts - I found those super-helpful esp. with the long gaps between appts around 12 - 20 weeks, hope it goes well.

Can I just say that pork pies utterly rock and I could eat my own bodyweight in the delicious little feckers. Failing that, a fried egg sandwich. I've been troughing fried egg sandwiches since day 1; still can't resist them.

Pink - vindaloo? On second thoughts maybe not; if that got stuck it could be horrific. Grin Hope things get moving soon; tis most miserable.

Gee, this pregnancy lark is super glam. Today I need to go out and buy a sieve in case I crap in my birth pool. TMI? TMI, sorry. Grin

LaraandLittleBean · 12/07/2011 09:01

Morning All.

DH left for Germany (at 4am) this morning. Rang me from the airport and told me he'd just eaten an almond croissant. Of course, that was it - I had to make an emergency stop at Pret to pick one up. Oh dear - it'll be downhill from here on in me thinks.

I now fancy a pork pie - problem is I don't even eat pork.

Never tried a mint magnum - strawberry cheesecake Haagen Dazs is my weakness (although it has to be eaten with at least two other scoops of other flavours to be fully appreciated - ideally Belgian Choc and the Pralines and Cream one).

So happy re. your scan bigmac - don't know how you can show such restraint... I'd have opened the envelope sneakily in the middle of the night (or lifted the envelope up to the light to try and see through it).

Blackkat - my 20 week scan is at 21+5 - seemed like a good idea at the time but bloody annoying now. Especially because I am panicking. Good luck at the MW's today - hearing the HB is amazing. (Don't think you have a doppler, right? I don't and would love one.)

Your DH sounds super endearing Daisy - mine has been pretty composed. I think he's very excited (although would never show me he's excited).

Pink - when did it become an outie? No real desire for mine to pop but found something else to mental about.... (i.e. the lack of popped-outiness).

Anyone saving their holiday leave to add to the start of maternity leave? I have about 3 weeks left and plan to use it all at the start of maternity leave. Figured that if I need the odd day here or there I can just pull a sickie (that's pure dedication to my place of employment). The migraines thing worked a treat the other week (I have genuinely been getting horrid headaches that last all day but just didn't happen to have them on the two days I called in sick).

Right - off to pour a glass of milk to have with my almond croissant (so at least Bean has something vaguely nutritious).

LaraandLittleBean · 12/07/2011 09:02

x-post Owl... Are you getting a sieve for real??? A normal, every day kitchen sieve..??

Daisybell1 · 12/07/2011 09:20

Lara the midwives at my booked unit take great delight in waving the sieve around in the birth pool room Blush

OH is very endearing - think the arrival of LO is bringing to the surface many years of surpressed emotion (both his parents have died plus its 10 years (almost to the day) since the farm was wiped out by foot and mouth). Maybe he's now realising the extent of his loss, and the responsibility he'll have in September....

owlbooty · 12/07/2011 09:22

Yep; sieve is obligatory. Nobody wants to find a poo floating around in the pool Grin I believe if you use the pool at the hospital they have one available. Gross, I know, but apparently most people accidentally crap during labour. Joy! Farewell, dignity.

I am currently taking 2 weeks' annual leave before my mat leave officially starts at 38 weeks.

Damnit, now I want an almond croissant. This is not a pregnancy craving, I just love almond croissants.

PinkFondantFancy · 12/07/2011 09:48

I'm told on good authority that you will almost DEFINITELY do at least one poo during labour but that the MWs are v efficient at changing pads/fishing it out so you might not even notice. Grin Blush

tiggersreturn · 12/07/2011 12:53

Advice I received last time was to save your holiday for the end of mat leave as you'll be really short of money then and it's nice to get a sudden influx of cash to help with childcare and other return to work costs or just generally. So I'm doing that again.

I'm going on mat leave as of next mon night when I'll be 30 weeks. At last week's growth scan (28) I was told they were measuring the equivalent of 34 weeks for a singleton pg so I figure I'll be around 36+ equivalent by the time I go off.

Hope everyone's doing well.

OP posts:
nickstermum · 12/07/2011 13:15

Can i just say that i most definately did not poo during my labour...!!!
Grin

Daisybell1 · 12/07/2011 13:21

Sorry for interupting the poo talk but ladies, get yourselves to Kendal Asda - pork pies are reduced Grin

Now, back to the poo....

LaraandLittleBean · 12/07/2011 13:29

By the time I get there from SW London, they might just have run out.....

Daisybell1 · 12/07/2011 13:30

Guess it depends what time Pink gets there Wink Grin

LaraandLittleBean · 12/07/2011 16:23

I was just looking up remedies for treating thrush (mine is better BTW) and one of them is to use garlic... I thought "WTF - how do I apply that? whole cloves, chop it up and apply. How gross, how unhygienic - the last thing I want near my fanjo is garlic... Utterly repulsive... EUCH!" And then I read on... the garlic is to be used as whole cloves... in COOKING. Oops....

bigmacandhappymeal · 12/07/2011 16:44

HA!! Lara and Owl you have made me roar with laughter. Sieved poos and inappropriate garlic-fanjo combo! Grin I have a water birth in mind so will thrill MrBigMac later with news of yet another purchase he was unprepared for and then wonder why we have not yet DtD

Thanks for all the congrats - really appreciate it and am willing the next few days to go faster for those of you that are waiting.

Daisy Wow, sounds as though that's a lot for your OH to process. Mine is getting tight eyed occasionally as the enormity of it all sinks in but that's without everything else you describe. Is he a talker?

Blackat - delighted that you are getting a HB sneaky peek.

Lara I'm thinking about what to do re annual leave and ML. Suppose I must really but I'm inclined to think ££ rather than time. Try mint magnums - you won't look back.

Tigger - brilliant re maternity leave

I've phoned Kendal Asda to warn them of the influx of mad-eyed preggo types looking for pork pies. The staff don't stand a chance!

bigmacandhappymeal · 12/07/2011 16:45

although suppose I could just use current kitchen sieve - waste not want not! BOAK!
