Lara - have you tried yoghurt in affected area? Grin

OP posts:
Velvetcu · 12/07/2011 17:51

am also chuckling here about sieving poos and garlic fanjos Grin

Daisybell1 · 12/07/2011 18:05

BigMac my friend as a mug specially designated for pregnancy tests, but your sieve idea takes this to a whole new level!!! Thank you also for phoning Kendal - I wondered what all those additional security guards were doing at the front Grin

Thank god you read the rest of instructions Lara that could have brought tears to the eyes!!!

OH isn't a talker at all, which I worry about as he has had so much crap and has never spoken to anyone about it.

I have to use this year's leave before I start my maternity leave so I'm off in 3 weeks but maternity doesn't kick in until the end of August. Then I can use most of next year's leave before I go back...

Very scary afternoon - realised that hadn't felt Daisybean move all day so ended up at the hospital in a panic. All's well, thank goodness, but the few minutes when she couldn't find a heartbeat on the monitor were awful.

owlbooty · 12/07/2011 19:15

Daisy I'd have been joining you at the hossie but then I remembered it's bloody Tuesday - he's doing bugger all again unless I sit really quietly with a mug of hot tea at which point he wakes up :) Glad all is well; I know how scary waiting to hear the heartbeat is.

And back to the poo - my dear SIL explained about the poo-sieve in gory detail to Mr Boots whilst we were out on a family walk, I think she did it just to see the expression on his face (which was priceless). Then we had cake and tea. My inlaws are top. Grin

Lara I used to use feed minced up garlic to my tropical fish to clear up parasites and fungal infections; it worked a treat so I reckon it's worth a go - so glad you don't have to insert cloves of the stuff though, that would be horrible Grin

OP posts:
cep · 12/07/2011 20:38

evening ladies,

sorry to introduce the poo talk again, but it is very common to cause baby is pushing passed those parts as it comes out. nix are you sure? cause i thought i hadn't but dh says otherwise. Midwives are very good at clearing it away without you even noticing you've done it. but i suppose at home, you'd have to do it yourself. (sorry i am actually laughing here.)
bigmac if you did use the one you already have i'd definately bin it afterwards keep the new one for the kitchen. Grin

Blackkat · 12/07/2011 21:15

So in the supermarket I was in in Spain they had a choice of six sieves, of differing sizes, 3 plastic and 3 metal. I'd never seen such a selection. Presumably a water birth is a popular choice in Spain then?! I mentioned this to DH, and the reason for needing the sieves, and he promptly went to look at the price of vodka Grin

Heartbeat was fine once lovely midwife could find it, apparently anterior placenta was in the way and the wee feller was wriggling and booting the doppler too. She predicts a boy. DH smug as hell.

Been to biffer aqua too and then had a lightbulb moment in the supermarket when I remembered that caprice des deux or whatever that cherub cheese is called is pasteurised, so I could stuff my face with bread and cheese to slake my swimming (ahem, floating) hunger.

Off to check my sieve/colander status..my dad helpfully suggested a runcible spoon, or his gardening sieve Grin

CollieandPup · 12/07/2011 23:02

Evenging everyone. Sorry I've been MIA the last few days. I was enjoying the lovely weather on Sunday and been busy at work for a change actually a training day today to improve my leadership skills! Not sure who I'm meant to be leading, they're all jumping ship!!!

orange quinny is out purely because we had to eliminate something. We were very close to buying it actually but the reviews are very mixed and a few niggly things kept coming up that in the end put us off. That and the fact that it was initally on offer near us but that ended before we made a decision. We've decided on the Cameleon. We're having a LOT of 2nd hand stuff of my SIL so I figured we can splash out on the things we're buying.

I had no idea who freddie the firefly was, or indeed Lamaze. But having googled, I have now set up an Amazon wish list full of it's stuff!!! Do they do Hungary Catapillar? I love that!!!

cep glad you had a lovely birthday. I think you should spend your birthday money however you want, and if you want a pacapod you should get one as a treat. Would he normally pull his face and get involved if you wanted to buy an ordinary handbag with your birthday cash? Men!!! Confused

On the subject of changing bags I saw someone the other week with a Cath Kidson one. Looked in the shop at the weekend though and they looked a bit small, but haven't really looked at any others to compare. Anyone else looked at them?

daisy glad the ante-natal class went well. And bless your DH!!!! He sounds lovely and like he's going to make a smashing daddy! Grin at you slipping up on team pink though!!!

lady if your still lurking, hope to see you back here very soon once you've plucked up the courage to join us again! Good luck for your scan tomorrow.

bigmac YAY fir great scan, so glad happy meal is doing ok.

Stopped off on the way home to buy a slice of pork pie with egg!!!! I blame pink !! No infact i blame all of you I am also craving mint magnum too!! Yumm!!! Although did boak at owls sieve purchase today! [grin ] @ SIL!!! I recently had to listen to a colleage re-live the birth of her son, where she uncontrolably pooed all over herself! TMI... Why do people insist on sharing these stories in such great detail?!! Ok, can we stop the poo talk??? I'm very disturbed!!! I really don't want to poo myself!!! Sad Thankfully we're NOT having a pool birth. Respect to everyones individual choice, but I can't think of anything more disgusting worse, especially if it involves catching your own poo!!! Smile

lara your scan will come soon and just think how much bigger and cheekier bean will be having had that extra week!

pink how's the constipation? Have you been to the gp or did you find an alternative solution? Nothing worse than constipation! Like its not cramped enough in there as it is!!!

lara I have quite a lot of leave left so am planning on taking a couple of weeks between now and mat leave and then using 3 weeks to finish at 37 wks. I'll also carry a week over to next year to use at the end if my mat leave. The ladies on here have certainly convinced me to finish early than 38 wks as orignally planned.

daisy sorry you had mad panic today but glad daisybean is ok. Pup was super active got a few days after the scan last week but has gone very quiet again! I still get the odd kick, so know he's ok, but thought I'd be feeling a lot more by now!

Whipped our travel cot up last night abs very pleased with it! Think I could recommend the Graco contour electrica travel cot!

Also do you think this steriliser kit is a good deal? see here

Back from cinema having watched bad teacher -Rather disappointed! We have unlimited passes and gave watched a lot of films on it recently and I have to say, all have been somewhere beywen awful and average. Any good suggestions? NOT harry potter!! Smile

Youremindmeofthebean · 13/07/2011 08:57

Lol collie You might have to get used to it! Apparently most women poo as your body needs to move everything from the bowel before pushing baby through. stands up I suspect I did a poo! They whip it away so quick that you don't really know, but I have my suspicions. I was past caring really at that point..

daisy my dp's dad died when he was 9, and we discovered after ds's birth that he had never really dealt with it at the time. It was a lot for him to process, but he managed really well. He's not really a talker though, so maybe your DH will have dealt with those emotions a bit better.

I am here, although lurking more than posting. Not feeling quite ready to be super excited and planning stuff, but not wanting to freak out either. In a sort of happy limbo/ denial. But loving hearing all your chat.

I even thought about having a pork pie yesterday after the chat, but realised I would need to find one without that jelly stuff in and have no idea if that even exists. Might settle for a Mint Magnum. I'll keep you informed!

Waves to all, you beautiful people.

owlbooty · 13/07/2011 09:13

Morning lovelies :)

Kat I did floating yesterday too - god it was blissful once I'd got into the pool past the flabbergasted stares of small children and random horrified looking blokes staring at me in my humungous raspberry pink maternity cossie. I kid you not, you could use the giant pants as a shopping basket. They are ENORMOUS. Being weightless was very, very nice and my poor squished joints appreciated it hugely but getting out again was like someone turning the gravity up - oof. My MW also has interesting fun finding the heartbeat and struggles to work out which way up Owlet is because of anterior placenta - even now she said she wouldn't have put money on what was head and what was arse. Thank god I had the sneaky bonus scan last week so we know for sure.

This is the way forwards, this plus a large cold Ribena.

Collie a few people have told me that Bridesmaids is very funny but I don't know if you'll be able to drag DH along to that!

The only changing bag I've got is the plain black Boots club freebie one. I rather fancy one of the Skip Hop ones with the funky patterns on but I know this will result in Mr Boots refusing to carry it anywhere and I can't be arsed having a bag each.

LOVE the pacapods though cep - esp the Logan ones which Mr Boots might actually carry about as they are not too girly. If the Boots bag fails I might splash out on one

Right. Day 3 of mat leave and more DIY needs doing.

Daisybell1 · 13/07/2011 09:16

Morning all

From what I've heard, its good to poo Grin

My poor best friend was so worried about pooing in front of her partner, that she didn't really push and ended up with a ventouse Sad She assures me that pooing will be the last thing on her mind next time!

YRMOTB sorry for your DP's loss, but I guess it makes sense that becoming a father brings emotions to the surface - I shall keep a close eye open for any wobbles up here. Apparently I'm doing ok with my farmers wife induction, however I still don't make gravy like his mum.... Hmm

Collie I haven't seen a Cath Kidstone changing bag yet, but I am interested. I have a roll of that style fabric and I don't know whether to make a changing bag, or this quilt with it....

Yay for Tiggers maternity leave!!!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 13/07/2011 09:19

Have absolutely zero time for a catch up, will be back tmorrow, have had a mad few days.

Just wanted to report that my GTT was all clear YAY!!! Although am anemic and need to have more blood taken by end of week. Boo!!

Anyway must dash hope yu are all ok, "I'll be back" Grin

Daisybell1 · 13/07/2011 09:20

X posts with Owl Grin at your swimming experience. My ante-natal class is known as 'Marine Animal Rescue' as I keep waiting for Greenpeace to appear to drag me back to sea....

Will you sit down Missus! Please! I'm getting a complex that I'm lazy, and you painting is not helping! Still, I have discovered that baby wipes will clean 40 years of farmer finger prints off paintwork, so I have set-to on several doors....

OH is now getting nervous that I'm nesting already...

CollieandPup · 13/07/2011 09:40

Owl I just nearly spat my brew all over my kitty reading your post !!! Grin I think that about some of my knickers and I'm only 21 weeks!!! Glad the float was good though!

Speaking of size, my rear is nearly as large as my bump!!!! What is that all about?!!! I'm usually quite modest in the rear so a colleague thinks it's justice (great)!!! All my weight seems to have gone on my arse and my love handles!!!!

daisy and yrmotb so Sad about your partners losses. I can imagine how that would effect their reaction to being a dad. DH's dad was is alive and was a good father up until DH turning 18. Mum and dad separated, e found a new wife and amilyvand treated DH and his sister (particularly sister) very badly. We haven't seen or spoken to him since our wedding day, which he almost didn't make. I know DH feels very let down my him, I wonder if any of that will resurface? I think he feels the conviction to do a better job.

daisy ironically I've got more chance of dragging DH to see bridesmaids than the new Tom Hanks film which he's refused to see. Think someone mentioned that Bridesmaids was funny so he might be sway-able. I have a feeling it might be a dissapointrnt though.

Yay Coconuts for all clear on GTT!

Right, working from home day today so better log on and pretend to do some work! Grin

owlbooty · 13/07/2011 09:41

Nah, I'm still sitting here faffing on t'internets. I might have another cuppa before I gird my loins/get off my monumental backside and do some work Grin

I wonder if babywipes would get off years of cat nose filth from our doorframes though? Might have to experiment. Mr Boots is hoping in vain that I will start nesting as he does all the cleaning and I am a right lazyarse.

Swim free, fellow whales! Swim free!

CollieandPup · 13/07/2011 09:45

Oh wow daisy the quilt is BEA-utiful!!!!!! Make that, make that!!!!!

I can't even sow a hem!

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 13/07/2011 10:41

Quick post and run on way to office (sorry!) to let you know 20 week scan this morning went really really well Grin. I know we're only halfway there but it does feel like a big hurdle over with...I can't believe how good the technology is now and how much detail they can see even compared to 5 years ago when we had dd!! [old gimmer emoticon]. Only possible issue was slightly low lying placenta which they will check again at 36 weeks but is likely to have moved up. At least I get a bonus scan though Smile

Got to dash - work calls - catch up properly later xx

CollieandPup · 13/07/2011 10:43

Eating pork pie!!! Yummmm

Velvetcu · 13/07/2011 10:44

lol am loving that we are still on poo talk. I really don't care if I poo. My sister was completely ridiculous about labour/birth last year - the midwife had to shout at her because she refused to open her legs as she didnt want anyone to see her fanjo!! Dont know what she's going to due as her second baby is due in December!

Daisy sorry you had a panic but glad all was well. I will also be testing out whether baby wipes can remove years of dog snot from doors too :) That quilt is gorgeous.

Owl I have a mental picture of you floating around in your giant pants.

helloooo yrmotb how are you?

coconuts yay for GTT but definate boo for more bloods. Are they giving you iron?

collie we were thinking maybe Quinny too but have heard mixed reviews. We really want a Jane but they are v expensive.

I've had the day off work today. My hips/perlvis have been playing up and I had leg cramps all night. I am pretty pissed of with my head of department too. Timetables for next year have been done and usually I get the A-level and GCSE classes. Because I'm going to be off they have given me the younger years instead which I understand but my timetable is really bitty. I've got 12 classes and have them for the odd lesson here and there which makes planning and establishing good behaviour very difficult. I also have only been given 5 frees which is the lowest number legally possible. I really need to work to 38/39 weeks but that timetable makes it pretty impossible :(
I'm also dreading going back to work next July already because of it!

CollieandPup · 13/07/2011 10:45

X-post izzy YAY for great scan!!! I know what you mean, even though there are no guarantees still getting past 20 has felt hugely reassuring!!!! X

Velvetcu · 13/07/2011 10:45

x posts Izzy wonderful news Grin Grin

OrangeGloss · 13/07/2011 10:59

I mentioned sieves to dh last night and he looked appalled Grin !! Especially as I want to try and use the pool myself
Grin at garlic fanjo too!! That can?t be good!
Coco I have the Freddie and the sock/wrist rattles! No flip flop bug though but after googling it?s on the list too
Cep have you managed to do any sorting or buying? Is your DH wanting to protect you? Hopefully he?ll come round soon
Daisy at least you can knit in the open now! Good that you have extended stay in your notes. My DH seems to be better prepared than me, but he?s had lots of new dads to talk to at work so I think that?s helped him a lot. It?s good he?s going through this now and will be ready for your LO. Naughty daisybean giving you a scare, glad everything is ok
Ladybird I hope to see you back soon, even if you just pop in
bigmac I LOVE Elton John Envy fab news to hear happymeal is doing well too Grin
Collie I?m just paranoid about our choice, but it was very cheap so if we don?t use for long we won?t feel too bad. Good choice though! We don?t have anyone to borrow/accept from so everything is new, so saving money where we can. How about Bridesmaids? It was quite entertaining. I?m struggling atm too getting the use out of my unlimited pass

Re baby holding I haven?t actually held one before Blush
I?ve had a pork pie obsession, much to my dh?s amazement as I have never actually liked them before, go figure. And mint magnums but that?s nothing to do with being pg. My new obsession is new potatoes with butter :)

Pink Lactulose really helps, and is ?delicate?. I have half a teaspoon full every other day, but have suffered more than most with this particular symptom right from the start ? you can buy over the counter if you can?t get to your gp. The MW suggested sweetcorn or popcorn and I?ve found that really helps when all else has failed

I have 5 weeks on Friday left (leaving at 38 weeks), but have 11 days leave to take spread over those weeks, so not long. I was 50/50 about time vs money, but they said take em and I?m on my first day off and actually glad I have!
I forgot who mentioned they are team yellow?us too, we still haven?t opened the envelope
I?m going to get the free Mothercare changing bag today if they have any, but so want a Pacapod now. Is it worth spending the money?

Izzy I?m glad I refreshed, that?s great news Grin it really felt better for me from there onwards
Velvet sorry work have been so crap. Is it a done deal or can you request a change? [innocent]

oops bit of an essay Blush

Wombat33 · 13/07/2011 11:09

Yey - great news Izzy and hello YRMOTB !

Velvet I feel for you on the hip/pelvic pain and cramps - me too. I find the cramps are eased by drinking lots of water during the day (and night) and having added salt on my dinner in the evenings.

Grin @ the sieve conversation.

No idea what change bag or anything we're getting yet. Am planning a mammouth baby shop on Sunday. We're also completing on our house on Mon and moving in on Fri so manic here!

Anyone got any views on the Bugaboo Bee? I think it's between that and the Cameleon for us. A bit worried about the Bee's offf-roading ability (v limited I thiink) but it has weight and ease of folding/transporting advantages over the Cameleon... Thoughts?
