earlier business?! I meant activity!

cep · 25/06/2011 08:06

Morning Ladies,

daisy we like Kate but are now wondering how popular that's going to be. didn't even occur to me but my dm pointed it out.

wombatinwaiting · 25/06/2011 09:05

Lovely to hear all the name chat - you've given me some inspiration as we are also struggling with boys names big time. We've decided to stick to team yellow for now but are fairly sure bump will be blue as DH has 3DS already.... we'd both like team pink but will wait and see..... we were very brave yesterday and started looking at buggies as I may pick one up when I'm back in the UK next month (more choice of colours etc. plus we can claim back the VAT!)

Was also Angry about your friend's comment coconuts and it sounds as if you have kept just the right tone in your text messages.

I was quite reassured to read of your ladies' reactions to other pg announcements - I'd thought it was just me being really mean. My best friend from uni is just 1 week behind me and so excited at every step and regularly texting with updates which is lovely but I have to admit to being very envious and can't get as excited as I would like to for her - sigh.....

Anyhoo, onto more positive things - more power to you knitting folk out there - seriously impressed with the needle action that's going on!

The Orient Express will be an amazing experience dachs - enjoy every second, particularly the boarding - you'll get lots of people looking at you with great interest (and jealousy!) I'm assuming you're going from Victoria? I've not done it myself, but used to work in travel and sell it as part of various tailor made trips we did and everyone used to rave about it. Lovely time of year to be doing it as well. Still think of you lots and thank you for taking the time to catch up on this thread and let us know how you're getting on.

He he at man-brain velvet and emoo - I think man-brain is definitely of a lower level than pg-brain - at least we can (attempt) to resurrect proper-brain post pg Grin

Good news on the progress owl - 34 weeks is amazing!

Any news from crochet....?

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 25/06/2011 09:07

coconuts I am Shock and Angry at your friend, that is a horrible thing to say! As we are all, unfortunately, living proof, mc can happen to anyone at any time and to assume it will only happen because there is "something wrong" with the mother is both ignorant and arrogant to an unbelievable degree.

On a positive note, I like Ethan James, it sounds lovely together Smile

daisy I really like Matthew as a name but unfortunately dsis had an absolutely appalling long-term boyfriend called Matt who has ruined the name for me forever! Alistair's an interesting one though... orange I really like Oliver too but it's dne

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 25/06/2011 09:12

Hmph, phone ate my post Angry

Oliver is nephew's name so it's out for us. daisy I think you're ok with Phillippa - it's a lovely classic name - but I do understand your concerns. One of our three girls choices is Catherine which has been a long-term favourite and was nearly dd's name but I do worry it's been all royal-weddinged out!

Our other girls choices are Felicity or Beth (or variant thereof). Still feeling about the boys though!

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 25/06/2011 09:14

wiw We are indeed boarding at Victoria. I will look forward to seeing all those Envy faces Grin I need to sort out all the clothes I want to take this morning so I can go shopping for any extra stuff I need. I've bought a few new dresses over the past couple of weeks so I have some stuff that fits. I put on a skirt yesterday that I've had for ages - and it fell off me! So I think I'll pretty much be needing to stick to dresses for the holiday. Some of the ones I already had are too big for me, but you can get away with that better with dresses than you can with skirts or trousers. I have a long slinky red dress to wear for dinner on the train :)

I'm very Envy of all of you and your growing bumps, but I'm hoping to be back here in August, so I'm going to try to enjoy the break and pray that the IVF works when I do it again.

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 25/06/2011 09:16

izzy I like Felicity :) (Not that I'm biased or anything, having used a variant for my girl twin Wink )

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 25/06/2011 10:16

Thanks everyone for your messages of support. :) Feeling much better today. Didn't order the buggy, but only because it was on preorder so we'll just wait for it to come in stock mid July. I don't really like the idea of my money being taken for something they don't physically have in their stock room.

On the name front I really like Oliver (Ollie) but we have an Ellie already so Ellie and Ollie really is too much of a mouthful! Although I'm loving Isaac too, will have to put that to DH :) Also love Felicity (and Felicia obviously Grin ) My girls cholice would have been Emelia Rose. Or should I say our choice Grin

Dachs - very Envy of you planning to wear dresses, I have some lovely ones I could still get into but this bloody English weather is not going to permit. I'm sure you'll have a lovely time :) and fingers crossed for the IVF in August.

Wombat - it is hard to be pleased and excited for other people. There is only one person I'm excited for and that is a friend of mine who has had 3mcs and is currently only 6 days ahead of me, we're both having boys and it really feels like we're in it together because she knows exactly how I feel. We talk everyday and I truly am rooting for her. She has been through it big time and she is the only person in RL that knows how I feel and she says the same.

Orange - Also have bump envy here too, despite having one of my own that seems to be growing more and more!

Emoo - I still have close family I am avoiding as I don't feel ready to tell people. I think because I've left it so late now it just feels a bit weird rocking up to someones house and the first words I have to say are "I'm pregnant" like they wouldn't notice or something. It makes me feel like a naughy teenager or something Hmm

Hope everyone has a good weekend, I have to do all the shopping on my own as DH is working but he has all week off next week and we're doing some decorating so that'll be a nice distraction :)

OrangeGloss · 25/06/2011 10:43

Daisy I forgot to say, don't worry about the name/royal thing, go with what you love as you'll be saying it for a long time :)
Coconuts are you decorating a nursery?

Catherine is a lovely name, and also a classic. For pink we have Millie, Maisie or Violet, with Rose as a middle name - am liking Ellie now too! I like Seth but don't think dh isn't keen. Same with Gwynneth. I like Matilda (Tilly for short) but dh knows someone at work with DD same name, but I don't think that should put us off....

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 25/06/2011 10:52

No we don't have a nursery Sad

We're decorating our hallway. Our hallways leads down into our bathroom and in November our bathroom ceiling collapsed -250 year old house so ceiling was full of soot. Whole flat had to be professionally cleaned and even now I still find smear of black soot here and there so just want to freshen it up a bit. A lick of paint and some new accessories :)

Baby will have to stay in our room until it is old enough for a bed and then we'll get bunks for him and DD as DDs room is tiny tiny. We can't afford to move but if you saw the rest of our flat you'd tell us not to. It's all period like and huge! (apart from DDs room) so the plan is to just have the bedroom to sleep in and the rest of the flat is plenty big enough for toys etc.

There are so many things I hate about this flat but I can't see my moving for years. I love it here. I live right along a river on a little one way street, two parks either side of me, but in the centre of a town. I love it! and its cheap as chips!

Well that post turned into a bit of an essay Blush

OrangeGloss · 25/06/2011 11:13

Coconuts sorry for the assumption, we haven't got a nursery either. If it's in with us to start with we thought there's no rush, and it won't know or care anyway as long as it's loved and cared for. Your flat sounds lovely and ideal location :)

nickstermum · 25/06/2011 12:37

hi ladies, feet are up totally exhausted. Coconutsw, your friend is a witch! Dachs, it WILL work... your body has carried twins for half the pregnancy term, it WILL do it again... i have every confidence in you that it will work for you xxx and pray that it happens naturally in between... :)

Loving the names. We have an Oliver Leo. Surname is one syllable and very dull.. beginning with W. Coconuts our boy is Oli, Ols, Ol Bol and OllyBob.. are his nick names and they really suit him. I like Elliot for a boys name too, but would be Oli and Eli - same problem!! Boys names very stuck on,.... front runner i think is Cory/Corey for a boy. Lots of girls names at the min, Shelby, Iris, Scarlett (DH and DS fave, my least!!!) Elsa. Ethan James is lovely, a fave of mine, but two friends have Ethans. Catherine is lovely Izz and my dsis name! spelt like that too... I love Violet too orange and Lilia. Its just boys i am particularly stuck on :( and i just know it will be a boy!! Am so sad, i have a spreadsheet going!

34 weeks tomorrow eek! Owl is that bag packed yet!?!?!
Getting kicks up the top so not convinced its still breeech but will see... very heavy down below and fanjo is starting to ache, but not engaged or anything. Keep thinking with the heaviness that waters are going to pop any minute but they never do....!!!

nickstermum · 25/06/2011 12:39

Looove matilda for a girl btw..... and DH suggested millicent.. but didnt like that.. so many options for agirl, but bugger all for a boy.....any inspiration, please let me have it Grin

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 25/06/2011 12:43

if we ever get pg again I'll have no idea what to call it. It took us ages to choose Alexander and Felicia - we couldn't agree on anything! Especially boys... Girls are a bit easier.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 25/06/2011 12:44

Nix - I have a spreadsheet too!!! I thought I'd be the only one!!!

Preggo brain moment x 2 -

  1. we are having a boy. SIL showed me a list of names she liked. I turned over the page and asked her why she hadn't got any girls names. Blush

  2. discussion about jeremy kyle (i don't know why) but I turned round and asked why it's always men that get DNA tested, never the women. There was actually a tumbleweed for that one Blush Grin

nickstermum · 25/06/2011 12:53

Owl.. just read back.. engaged? WOW best def get that bag packed, I too spend life on the loo :( its sitting so low now that i can be desparate for a wee and nothing comes out bar a dribble, baby seems to be blocking it somehow then when i lift up bump, out cometh the waterfall lol

Apples so glad you are finding it easier looking after newborn plus toddler.. rather than being diffed. I am struggling atm with defiant 3yo pushing me to the limits with DH being away, so looking forward to it hopefully being a bit easier... soooo exhausted i havent moved today off the sofa!! poor DS.

Dachs, just really wanted to give you a big hug xxx Orient express sounds an amazing trip of a lifetime just what the hot doc ordered!! I really hope you are able to enjoy it and use the time away to grieve for your babies, but also come back refreshed. I cannot imagine what you have been through, but your strength has inspired me and I sincerely hope you conceive very quickly again xx

owlbooty · 25/06/2011 13:33

Aha, thank you for that top tip Nix Grin Damn, we are a classy lot. As this is first baby I suspect he may just sit there making me uncomfortable for a number of weeks to come or even ping back out again. However, The Bag is packed and travels with me to MW appointments - not that I am paranoid she's going to find something that sends me straight to the hossie, noooooo. Although if she isn't absolutely 100% sure which way up he is at the next check in 2 weeks I will have to go up to the ECV clinic for a scan just to make sure - don't want to find an arse where it should be a head when one is planning home birth Shock

We've got names sorted, in theory, although I know in practice if he doesn't look like the name we've picked we'll have to have a rethink and we only have one boy's name so we'll be basically buggered Grin

coconuts Poor brian Grin I know the feeling.

Dachs not quite in the same class but I once treated myself to a first class ticket on the Eurostar from Paris to London - it was bloody lovely. Orient Express will be streets ahead of that so I bet it will be utterly fabulous :)

cep · 25/06/2011 16:48

afternoon ladies

coconuts i actually had to laugh out loud for that. Grin

Our problem with names is if it's a girl i want Annie for a middle name after my gran, but our surname begins with a p so i could get stuck with sap, tap, map, nap, bap, lap, cap, rap (don't mind that one too much), you see my point. Grin

appleblossoms · 25/06/2011 18:01

Hope you're doing well and are busy enjoying newborn snuggles now. Have been thinking of you.

Very Envy of Dachs heading off on the orient express! What a fantastic holiday that'll be... and you of all people deserve a really amazing time. When do you go?

orange enjoy the tour of the birth centre...it'll feel really surreal! First room on the left, with the birthing pool that I didn't get to use, that's where Malachai was born Wink

owl and niks can't believe you're almost there now!!! Won't belong till you girlies are posting your birth announcements. Glad you've got your bag packed owl...

niks I feel for you...it really is hard in the last month. I felt like such a bad mummy as I just didn't want to move off the sofa, and I couldn't play with ds like he wanted me too. It really is easier once you bend in the middle again! and you can give the 'bump' to DH and go off and play with ds. Grin

Grin at you girlies with spreadsheets!

big hugs to all you with bump/preg announcement envy. I still get a twinge of something when a certain friend posts blase things about early pregnancy, and I have my newborn in my arms! Can't believe your friend though coconuts Angry that's just plain rude regardless!

Loving all the name thoughts you're having. I think we've finally decided on a middle name... Malachi Henry... I find naming a baby so hard, it's such a big responsibility! Maybe that's just me.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 25/06/2011 18:21

apple I'm staying in London on Wednesday night and the train heads off on Thursday morning. We get back to London on Thursday the following week and we're staying in London for 3 nights so get home again on 10th July. And if everything goes to plan I would expect to get a positive on OPK when we get to London, so those 3 days might be busy Wink And if that doesn't work I'd be expecting next AF on around 21 July, so not long to wait after we get back until the next round of IVF.

Envy of all you pg people and name spreadsheets. We deleted our spreadsheets after we decided what to call the twins. i know what I'd want to call a daughter if we had one, although I'll need time to persuade DH into the name. It's a shame girls names are so much easier when really I'd like a boy, but I'd be happy with anything that cried and wriggled and actually managed to stay put in me for long enough to cook properly so if there's anyone up there listening to me, please please please let the IVF work and give me a real live baby to look after. apple I love Henry as a middle name - if we do have a son it will be one of his middle names (any boys we have will also have James as a middle name as it is an important family name for me)

Daisybell1 · 25/06/2011 19:31

Dachs you are NOT thread hijacking, we never want to hear you say that again! We're privileged to have you around my dear, and its always lovely to hear from you. Your strength is an inspiration, it really is. And Nix has got the word right that I was looking for earlier - have a really refreshing time, you totally deserve it! The Orient Express sounds completely gorgeous (am a bit of a train freak) and glamorous - enjoy!

Owl and Nix are 34 weeks? How did that happen?!?!?! Delighted for you guys, and terrified for me at 28+4 - EEEEEK!

Emoo that mention of the 20 minute transfer time from MLU to hospital is making me wibble Confused - that's the transfer time I'd need. Surely they'd send me earlier rather than later [praying hopefully emoticon]

Coconuts your flat sounds fab! No nursery here either. But I did buy a buggy today Grin

Thanks for the reassurance re Philippa - she's going to be Pip/Pip Squeak/Pippin rather than Pippa (full name will be Philippa Alice (after MIL who died 3 years ago) my surname then OH's surname. Bit of a mouthful... Hmm

And I can donate a boys name if anyone is in need - my Grandfather's middle name was Kerrigan (his mother's maiden name - irish) which we were both very taken with. Feel free to pinch it Grin (or tell me its awful!!!)

CollieandPup · 25/06/2011 20:07

Evening everyone.

Please come back. You?re not making the place miserable, its always nice to hear from you.

Orange big step looking at buggies even if you?ve not bought it. Which one were you debating? My 20 wk scan is a week on weds (eek). Thanks for asking. Half excited and half petrified. Assuming all is ok and pup is showing its goods we?ll be finding out the flavour. That must have made your scan hard having it on your DD, I think I?d have been tempted to change it. We know 2 Masies, which I think is lovely but I think I?m with your DH and DS and love Violet And both DH and I love Seth, is a front runner on our practically non-existent boys list.

Dachs the orient express, how amazing!!!!! What a holiday. But indeed, you are a cheap date ? but might not be a bad thing if your eat8ng in Michelin Star restaurants all week! Grin Enjoy it, you both so very much deserve it.

Owl wow, 34 weeks and engaged!! How exciting. I hope the reaming few weeks go quickly and comfortably.

izzy I love Oliver and I?d want it on our list but my aunt has married into the ?Oliver? family so that just wouldn?t work. Like felicity v much too.

Coconuts, I think Ethan is a gorgeous name, its on our list Smile . LOL at you Brian moments!!!

Wiw well done for looking at buggies too. Any thoughts so far?

Who said Alistair ? Was it Daisy?? I like it. Always have ever since I was young. But DH says no Sad

Nix I think your ds name - oliver leo is lovely. My youngest niece is an Iris, with sister Eve. I think its lovely. And I really like Scarlett. Its on my list but dh not so sure.

Cep ? lol are your initials. DH is obsessed by exploring every possibility of a nickname. But I tend to be less worried about it. Unless its really bad like CUM Grin or something, I don?t think it?s a big deal. We had the conversation about Kate too as a friend of mine loves the name. I think it will become very popular, as will pippa. But as long as you don?t mind having a popular name, it doesn?t matter. I personally want to try and avoid popular names though. My name is quite uncommon, and I?ve always enjoyed that.

I am loving the name talk and its something we are really struggling with. We have lots of girls names but no real favourites yet. A few boys names, but again I just can seem to see naming a baby any of them ? but then that might be something to do with not being able to visualise a baby!! Lets see what you think ? Team Pink ? Esmée, Auerlia, Florence, Grace, Mia, Alisha, Florence, Olivia (common?), Nara and Faith. Middle name jean after my Nan. Team Blue ? Isaac (is this common?) Logan (American?), Noah, Seth, Manley and Aron.

We have also been buggy hunting today and think we?ve decided on a Quinny Buzz 3 (any views?). I?ve posted a thread on the pg board about buying this new or 2nd hand ? any thoughts anyone about buying old/new travel systems???

nickstermum · 25/06/2011 20:39

Collie, I love Noah, thats on my list, DH says too biblical! Love Florence and Flora, Esmee i think will be popular this year because of twilight. I dont think olivia is common. DS is 3+8 and oliver wasnt as popular then but its been No 1 on the top100 for the last 2 years since.. but is a name i adore, and my nan was olive. I also love Logan... (7kilocat sadly is named that, my russian prince...its very regal and i love it...otherwise it would be on my list!!) Aurelia love, as do Amelie.

Does anyone else think Shelbie/Shelby sounds like a hooker? My friend said that when i was thinking of names for DS, but i really like it. She wanted to call her Ethan Summer - i know what i prefer Grin

YEY for 28 weeks and proper viability Daisy.

Owl i thought that was a top tip... esp considering that you will be washed ironed and packed already!! I havent even unloaded the boxes from the loft yet.... eek. better get a move on. This poor baby has no where to sleep, nothing to sleep in, nothing to wear... and only a soft teddy to snuggle!!! God, really must do something about it.. if my waters go early I am fooked!!

Apples glad everything is fine, and love the name!!.... worrying about how near the top of the list i now am....

Dachs. No thread highjack.. you are one of the gang regardless :) xx

owlbooty · 26/06/2011 10:19

I meant a top tip about the peeing technique, Nix , not the bag Grin

Dachs I have a kipper here and I'm not afraid to use it - don't you dare think you're hijacking the thread, like Nix says you are one of the gang. :) We're all just hoping and waiting for a lovely bfp for you however it comes, and then we'll be cheering you on all the way
