is anyone else feeling a little left out by the first-timers due in December thread? This will be my second DC (DS will be 3.5). I think I'm due on 15th December.

wow, lots of newcomers! welcome to everyone. Lots of xmas time babies on the way!
I had my scan yesterday and so far things look good. Baby was right size and had a strong heartbeat. I won't rest easy for a while yet though because I've been here before and it didn't work out.
I am finding myself absolutely shattered when I get home from work. I've been sitting on the sofa with my son (2.9) while he watches cbeebies and I drift off. He orders me to wake up - don't sleep mummy. It doesn't help I'm having early starts at work meaning I have to get up at 5:45.

i can't wait for a lie-in tomorrow!!

sevendwarves · 06/05/2011 09:41

Glad your scan went ok goodnightmoon.

Did anyone see Inside the Human Body on BBC1 last night? Well worth watching on the iplayer if anyone missed it.

Missed that but might give it a look.

I'm actually reading all the labour sections of the pregnancy books and thinking of digging out my first labour notes.

(getting very aheard of myself I know!)

DarciesmumandBump2 · 06/05/2011 11:28

GNM Good to see your scan went alright, and FX your bean carrys on growing nicely :)

I got the date for my scan this morning 16th June feels like a lifetime away how will I deal with not winding myself up until then?

sevendwarves · 06/05/2011 13:24

darcies that is ages away, how many weeks will you be?

I can't see me getting mine at 12 weeks, I'll be 10+3 before I even see the MW who will then book mine.

laweasel it was about conception and life in the womb and was really fascinating.

OP posts:
DarciesmumandBump2 · 06/05/2011 14:23

Seven I'll be 12+3 weeks.

LaWeasel · 06/05/2011 15:43

Oh really? Will definately have a peek then.

As far as I can tell, we don't get 12 week scans here.

Which is rubbish. Will double check at first midwife appointment (10 wks) then maybe think about booking a private scan. Have no idea how you go about doing that, but it would be fantastic to have some reassurance before half way through the pregnancy!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 07/05/2011 08:56

Laweasel where a bouts are you based? If it's uk then should get 12wk scan.

dollyshouse · 07/05/2011 10:16

not got my scan date yet but have rung hospital and they have received my referral letter off doc so fingers crossed should be here soon, have asked for an earlier one if poss due to last MMC 18 months ago, I am seven weeks today!!

LaWeasel · 07/05/2011 10:29

I'm near milton keynes.

But nope, there's a full break down of all your antenatal appointments on the PCTs website. So unless they've made a major mistake there is only one scan offered here.

dollyshouse · 07/05/2011 10:51

i read somewhere that once you have seen the heartbeat then the rate of miscarriage drops significantly is that correct? that was my reason for wanting early scan for more reassurance really as when I went for dating scan last time at 12 weeks baby had died at 9 weeks

sevendwarves · 08/05/2011 10:03

dollys I believe that's correct.

laweasel how strange that you only get one scan, presumably each PCT gets to decide how it chooses to offer ante-natal care and appointments. I can't imagine not having the first scan until 20 weeks. Have you told anyone about your pregnancy yet? Presumably you'll already be showing and it won't be possible to keep it quiet until after the 20 week scan!

I am crap at secrets, so loads of people know already. I have had a suspected mc before (it was all very complicated), and wanted people to know why I was so upset and talk to them so I don't mind people knowing if the worst was to happen.

OTOH - my expanding belly is making me paranoid I'm incubating twins! So I'd rather have a scan sooner. First mw ap is beginning of next week, so I'll see if I can request a dating scan. Who knows!

dollys - I honestly don't know. But I can see how that would make sense.

sevendwarves · 08/05/2011 10:54

I've already told people as well. I'm going away on a hen weekend at the end of the month, I'll be just 12 weeks so I probably won't have had a scan. I thought the girls would all guess by me not drinking so they might as well know already.

purpleflower123 · 08/05/2011 11:55

I've told a few people already. It's really hard to keep it quiet!

I'm still waiting for the community midwife to call to arrange to come round. She's the one that will book me in for the scan etc.

I have been feeling really rough, I really don't remember being like this with the others, I'm hoping it's a good sign though. Even though I have had 2 healthy pregnancy's I'm still worried about mmc like the first time round.

Not only have I gone up a clothes size already, my boobs have gone from a B to a D Shock maybe I have twins in there

sevendwarves · 08/05/2011 12:22

purple I've gone from a C/D to an E! I can still get all of my jeans except my skinny ones although they're definately tighter. I ordered some maternity jeans on eBay yesterday, one pair was £1.70!

angelene · 08/05/2011 13:22

Hi all

I told my mum yesterday, she's obviously thrilled. Haven't had a chance to talk to her properly though as there were loads of family around yesterday. The plan is now not to tell anyone until the scan when we can tell dd but things at work may mean I have to tell my boss sooner.

I'm still not counting any chickens but tomorrow I'll be 7w which feels like I'm kind of getting somewhere rather than just being late iyswim. And a week tomorrow I can call the surgery to book in with the midwife - can't do that until 8w.

I'm just ordering some clothes because my tummy is expanding already - tbh I think this is because I've been SO HUNGRY rather than me showing. I am giving in to hunger now rather than ignoring it as I have previously done so am bound to put weight on fairly quickly. I lost a lot of weight last year so I need to get new maternity clothes again.

laweasal My sister is in a different area but I'm sure she didn't get a dating scan in her PCT, I do think it's totally off tbh!

dollyshouse · 08/05/2011 16:08

I was a 36E to start with and boss mentioned the other day that my boobs looked bigger (shes female by the way!! we always joke that we all have big ones where we work!) and I told her I was pregnant as I work with small children and so can't lift/stretch etc. gonna go marks for a measure and buy a non wired bra cos mine getting dead uncomfortable already, boobs still mega sore. I've also told immediate family and a few friends, think its important for some people to know so that if the worst happens you have some support but its a personal thing, plus I can't hold my own water, pregnant or not!! I also won a pair of size 14 m & s jeans on ebay for a quid yesterday and a top for a quid too!!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 08/05/2011 19:28

Hey ladies,

My boobs are sore but don't think they've grown yet :(

4 days till Ibiza just hope I still fit into my holiday clothes.

goodnightmoon · 09/05/2011 13:05

dollys - that is definitely what the statistics would suggest but it hasn't been my experience so I take little comfort myself from seeing the hb. one thing to ask is for the heart rate, a lower rate is worse. (think 150bpm is about right for 7 weeks - my embryo's was 157 the other day).

my boobs have gone much bigger, that's for sure. I bought two new bras the first week I found it - I think they are 36c and i was more 34B but visually it seems a huge difference!

i was convinced the other night that i've started showing, meaning a hard little belly that wasn't there, not that i look massively pregnant. think it may have just been bloating though! i still want to lose weight. I'm 63 kilos and should have been 60 kilos pre-pregnancy to be my "normal weight." too much cake and chocolate over the winter I suppose ... if i make it to 12 weeks i will start jogging again - last time did it until 30 weeks though that was a bit much in retrospect and i got spd.

dollyshouse · 09/05/2011 21:10

thanks goodnightmoon I don't know what to do, am only 7+2 and the thought of waiting almost another 5 weeks is torture so I had thought if I could get an early scan that it would reassure me but then if I did and became more 'real' and then at 12 weeks was still bad news would I feel worse than I would if I hadn't had the earlier scan?? Confused forget how bloody worrying and stressful this time is don't you from each pregnancy, I never had this worry and stress with my first two at all, only since the MMC because until then I never ever thought about it!

goodnightmoon · 09/05/2011 21:39

if i were you i'd get a scan. I can't resist knowing. And the odds are overwhelmingly likely that everything is fine.

dollyshouse · 09/05/2011 21:47

thanks goodnightmoon yes I think would make me feel better!! I have asked for possibility of one and doc sent referral letter to hosi last week and I rang today but was hanging on for ages and ages so will try again tomoz, was devastated by the MMC at 12 weeks scan just so completely unexpected, plus cos am now 44 and doubly worried cos unplanned preg but very much wanted, anyway feel happy cos am under same consultant as last time and she really nice.

babychoochoo · 09/05/2011 23:09

Hi all, im new to this site so please be gentle with me!
I've just found out over the weekend that i am expecting number 3.
Unplanned and still coming to terms with it, im 43.
DD1 is 6.7 & DD2 is 4.6. Im also not sure how far along i am, so i think an urgent visit to the Doc is in order.
Very sore boobs too along with anytime nausea and knackered most of the time xx

goodnightmoon · 10/05/2011 08:51

hi babychoochoo, welcome, there are a few of us 40-somethings here. let us know how you get on with the doctor, though i suppose they won't be able to date it until a scan if you're not sure of your dates.

dollyshouse - is there not an emergency gynae unit at your hospital that you can self refer to? I guess I'm lucky to have one nearby - they know me well there. I've also gone for private scans in the past. it's around £120. well hopefully your consultant will sort you out.
