is anyone else feeling a little left out by the first-timers due in December thread? This will be my second DC (DS will be 3.5). I think I'm due on 15th December.

OP posts:

sevensevenseven · 05/11/2011 09:09

I'm still here! I can't speak from experience but my brother and SIL have a Renault grand scenic which they're very happy with (and it's big enough that SIL is trying to convince my brother to have DC4).

Not long to go now, how is everyone doing? I had my 33 week check with my GP this week, everything is still going surprisingly well. He said she feels big but I was told the same about DS so I'll reserve my judgement.

Skillbo · 06/11/2011 21:33

It is getting ever so close, isn't it! I am 34 weeks on Monday which means, technically, only three weeks till he's fully cooked - poor DH is gently panicking...

DD is going for a visit to Nanny next weekend so we can blitz the bedroom, put up the new cot and all that - will make it very real to have another little bed in the corner again... am getting very excited!

Not sure about cars aethlefleda as know very few people with more than 2 but I think Ford Galaxy's have loads of room and don't actually look that big - the 3rd row of seats sort of sit where the boot is (so probably doens't have a huge amount of room in the boot perhaps?? Good luck !!

hawthers · 07/11/2011 14:05

the volvo v70 can do three seats - my bil has one and thinks its the best (but that applies to everything that he does...)

got a question about pushchairs - we've just ordered a phil and teds with a double kit but how do you get the new nipper in and out of it without taking off the double seat on top - anyone got any experience or ideas? it all seems a bit odd/squished (and MASSIVE compared to my nice bugaboo bee, sniff sniff)

aethelfleda · 08/11/2011 20:54

Aha, I had a phil and ted E3. When you put the double kit on for baby plus toddler mode, you do this by reclining the main seat baco til its horizontal, then you put the double seat on the front for your toddler. There is a space above the back of the reclined seat, if you have the doubles set cocoon (cricket bag!) then you just slide it in with baby in it, if not you clip baby into the harness. There's plenty of room to get em in and out. Though you will get some odd looks as your big DC sits happily in the front seat, and the baby (who no-one can see apart from you!) starts wailing! It's lovely and cosy in there in the colder weather as the baby slot is completely windproof.

aethelfleda · 08/11/2011 20:58

And thanks for the advice skilbo, we are looking out for a Ford galaxy in the right price range- if we got one of those we wouldnt need the third row of seats as if we stick to three kids (we are so going to!) then it's wide enough to have three kids in the second row (unlike the vaukhall Zafira where it's only 2.5 seats wide in the second row). So we could keep the two back seats fOlded down and have a boot in theory...

hawthers · 09/11/2011 13:12

thanks aethelfleda couldn't quite get my head around how to get the new one in.

do you have to take the doubles bit off to collapse the pushchair? surely you can't do it while its still attached (it scares me, can you tell?)

sevensevenseven · 09/11/2011 19:43

hawthers I think the doubles kit has to come off to fold. I really must get the doubles kit and the coccoon out and play with before baby arrives!

my2centsis · 10/11/2011 00:55

hi all, can i please wait anxiously with you??
I'm due dec 14th so im 35+1. impending ds.
Have dd who is 3.6 had a really difficult and long labour with her so im starting to be a little paranoid about the birth!
I am tired all the time! i get up to pee several times a night and dd for some reason is waking up to 3 times a night!! by 4pm everyday i have incredibly bad back pain and swollen feet and get braxton hicks for several hours evey night that are actually starting to get quite painful!!
Now that iv had my winge we are very excited to meet ds feel like this pregnancy has gone soo fast but am counting down the days till its over!! anyone else decided they will be having their baby at exactly 37 weeks like me Grin

aethelfleda · 10/11/2011 23:39

Hi my2, the theory goes that once you've stretched everything up with DC1, DC2 is a lot easier to get out. I had two friends with 24 hour+ labours with forceps/ventouse with their firsts, both had completely straightforward 3-4 hour labours with number two.

hawthers, in my E3 (a few years old now) you pushed two clicky bits and lifted off the doubles seat, then pulled the fold widgets on the sides to fold the buggy. You did used to have to de-recline the main seat (ie click it back up to normal) before you folded the buggy but they may have changed that when they updated the model. To be honest it's so darn bulky when folded I didn't really fold it much at all - used to keep it fully erected (!) in my front room and walk all round town with it mostly.

hawthers · 11/11/2011 14:58

Thanks for the top p & t tips. It be sat like a large elephant in our sitting room looking scary for the best part of a week. Must really get to grips with it soon!

sevensevenseven · 11/11/2011 18:20

hawthers I've been using ours as a single pushchair for DS since it arrived in June and I love it :)

aethel does that mean I should be worried? Proper contractions last time started at 11am, DS arrived 3.15pm! The hospital is an hour away if the traffics bad!

aethelfleda · 12/11/2011 21:23

Nah seven, no worry required. Just don't hang about at home for hours when the contractions get regular. Better you have a few hours at the hospital end than mad dash to get there. All mums are different, my other friend had a longer labour with her second than her first!
FWIW I dilated at about the same speed with both my DDs, and at the same time of day! With both of them, contractions started 5am, regularish but light by 11am (went to hospital at 2-3pm) more deep and frequent by 7pm, wanted to push at 8pm, born 8.20pm-ish.

Skillbo · 14/11/2011 21:18

Hello all - sorry it's been a while but good to see everyone is going well!

Quick question - have had a stomach bug (or am concerned it could be food poisoning) but not sure what sort of risks this brings this late in the pregnancy (am 35 weeks today - yay!)... baby is moving really really well - has always been a feisty soul - and am drinking although can't face food..

Haven't been sick but just feel rotten but DD was also ill this weekend so not sure if there is a bug doing the rounds? She bounced back after 24 hours and am hoping I'll be the same but if anyone has some good advice, would be so welcome... I am going to phone my mw in the morning just to check - spent today into bed...

If it's not one thing, it's another isn't it... heartburn has been my close personal friend for several weeks and I am necking the non brand version of Gaviscon like it's water...

Anyways, Hawthers - have you got the buggy sorted yet? Know how you feel as we had a similar thing with the new cot.. was calling us everytime we walked past it but finally bit the bullet and it's now up.. DD says it's baby brothers bed which is quite sweet!

Aethelfleda - your post reassured me a little, managed to dilate pretty quickly last time but was pushing for a LONG time so am hopeful I only have to do about 20 minutes too, fingers crossed!

Found there's not chance for One Born Every Minute at my hospital now as the midwives were asked and they resoundingly said NO... phew (although was excited by the prospect of £10k)..

My2 - welcome Smile - it's not far away is it, seems to have come round super super quick!!

hawthers · 15/11/2011 16:04

finally addressed the buggy issue and took it out for a test run on sunday. i'm actually (gruddingly) pretty impressed with it. thought it would fill our boot but not that much different from our existing single which is a relief. DS wasn't too keen on it but we did at least manage to get him in it for a bit so hopefully he'll warm to the idea of a different pushchair to 'his'. also managed to get our old coccoon to fit the new baby bit which will be handy.

i think that you'll be fine for not eating for a day or so. the baby realy is a 'parasite' so will take all it needs from you even if that does mean consuming your body fat (yey) or muscle (boo)

goodnightmoon · 16/11/2011 09:28

hi ladies, lost the thread for a while but happy to see there is a burst of activity getting buggies and car seats and the like in place! I have finally started to buy some newborn clothes, having given absolutely everything away after DS thinking we'd be a one-child family!

it really is coming up fast isn't it? I'm 35w 3d now and expect to have a c-section around 39 weeks (Dec. 11). but then who's to say baby won't have other ideas and could show up sooner!

I imagine maybe others here like me are frantically trying to organise Christmas too? We are hosting it since I certainly don't want to travel, but it means a lot of prep work since I've never done a big holiday meal before - and let's be real, it will be my mother and DH doing most of the work on the day. Still, getting all the things we need is turning into a mission!

Plus presents ... aargh.

Skillbo- hope you're feeling better. my son had a vomiting bug the other week but fortunately I didn't get it. i do have a nasty sore throat developing though.

aethelfleda · 18/11/2011 21:26

I'm asleep, after doing my last long work day before mat leave (have several short days to go but not any ten-hour killer long shifts. Yay...zzzzzz....

sevensevenseven · 19/11/2011 09:08

Hi all, anyone else getting super-excited now? I'm 35+4, tonight will be the point when I went into early labour with DS.

goodnight we're having Christmas just the (hopefully!) 4 of us. My parents want to come and do presents in the morning but thankfully they're going to my sisters for lunch, otherwise I'd worry about getting rid of them! Presents are bought and wrapped, I just need to sort out a stocking for DS. I'm just waiting to see if DD arrives in time before I write cards and present labels.

skillbo I hope you're feeling better now, I had a horrible bug at 18 weeks.

sevensevenseven · 22/11/2011 07:34

I've had my baby! Eva Rose arrived yesterday at 23:13 weighing 5lb 4oz.

aethelfleda · 22/11/2011 20:57

Yay, congrats seven (again!)

We're still car-hunting: looking increasingly like a
Ford Galaxy on the Christmas list.
Decided to pay for a dealer to get us one (as can trade in old care easily). I know it's less efficient cash wise but just need something sorted and it's worth paying for reduced hassle!

my2centsis · 23/11/2011 02:12

hi all, 37weeks today... so tierd and sore and short tempered :( dd got up 6times lastnight which does not help the sleepless nights at all. i want to have the baby now! lol. everything is ready now, packed hospital bags yesterday.
O i wish i was one of the lucky ones that had their baby early!
seven congratulations!! was labour better the second time around? what were the comparisons between 1st and 2nd? so happy for you!
who will be next ladies??

Skillbo · 23/11/2011 21:52

Huge congratulations Seven - wonderful news and a lovely name! Hope it went ok for you and you're home and snuggling with your beautiful DD!

Must admit, like My2, am wondering how you got on? It's all getting a little close for comfort...

Had my final bloods taken today and the chat about what to do etc etc... poor mw had to try for almost ten minutes to check the heartbeat - not because she couldn't find it but just because DS appears to be running marathons inside and every time she found it he would doa little jig, have a shift and mess up her readings... at least I knew he was fine as my stomach did that weird wavey thing (not sure if you'll know what I mean, but I do!)

My2 - sorry to hear about DD not sleeping well for you.. we went through a similar thing about 2 months back when we first took off DD's cotbed side but she seems to have finally got there - although am up about once a night, it's a definite improvement... here's hoping she calms down in time for when your new lo arrives!

Aethelfelda - sometimes less hassle is worth a lot and at this point, am guessing you just want to get it all done and dusted. Have you found somewhere that can get it sorted nice and quickly?... have my MOT next week which I'm never a fan off although am hopeful it'll be painless?

Heartburn is a total nightmare now and can't believe I've still, technically, got just over three weeks to go.. I am now on my 3rd huge bottle of the Gaviscon substitute but mw did today say I couldn't OD on it.... here's hoping not!!

Anyways - hope everyone gets a restful night in tonight xxx

goodnightmoon · 24/11/2011 08:03

congratulations seven! that's a lovely name. I hope it all went smoothly and that she's sleeping like a charm.

i have been given a date for my c-section: Dec. 14. Due date is the 18th though so not sure she'll wait that long. (DS was a week early)

It's all coming up fast and I feel woefully unprepared. Our "nursery" is still a study/box room full of crap. Grin

my2centsis · 01/12/2011 03:32

hey ladies its finally december!! has anyone else had ENOUGH now?? i know 5 people who have had babies over the last 3weeks im so happy for them but cant help thinking is it my turn yet? my pelvis is so damn sore i feel like its bruised and i can bearly walk! 1st day of summer here (new zealand) god hot days suck when this pregnant!
13 days to go (yes im counting)
baby 2cents please come out!!
How is everyone else?

goodnightmoon · 01/12/2011 11:03

hi 2cents, i also have 13 days to go - that is my c-section date so at least I know it can't go later! (though earlier is a worry - I'm still working through next Wednesday.)

I am happily feeling better than I have for a long while. Don't know if it's because baby dropped, or a hormonal thing or what, but my hip and back pain has eased off and I feel almost human again despite having this big bump out front to remind me I have to take it easy.

i just wish DS would sleep through the night instead of calling out for us several times to urgently put his blankets back over him or give him a cuddle. aaargh!

Skillbo · 12/12/2011 21:56

Evening all ladies - it seems to have been very quiet on here! Unless of course you're all off having your babies Grin

A week today, hopefully - seem to have developed slight SPD which makes it hard to walk at times... still trying to keep mobile but by the end of the day it is quite painful. I take my hats off to all you ladies who have put up with this for months!

Finally finished work on Friday which was hellish but all done now for six months, thank goodness!

Anyways - I am sure you've all got lots going on but do pop in and let us know how you're all getting on!!
