(re-writing as the website went down...)
Sorry to hear about the headaches, Mopsytop, but glad to hear that the migraines have gone. Hopefully the headaches will follow suit and disappear too!
The 20 week scan was just a scan and did not include a midwife appt (as in week 12) so I didn't get chance to ask about the pains. I half mentioned it to the sonographer but she didn't say anything really - just said that all looked healthy and that the baby was progressing well, and was slightly above average size. Maybe I'll call my community midwife tomorrow and ask...
Looking forward to the brewage. :)

Oh my goodness! Ummm my bump this morning is mahooosive!!!!!! The difference between yesterday morning and this morning is totally visible! Freaky

Sorry completely pointless post but just had to share that news!

OiMissus · 20/07/2011 10:59

My bump comes and goes, ...don't mean to be crude, (I apologise in advance!) but sometimes a bit of pregnancy-constipation makes all the difference!!
Sorry!! :)

figgygal · 20/07/2011 12:42

Teacup mine is the same today it is huge but wonder if some of it is down to what i am wearing as today am in a work dress and it hardly fits (it used to be massive on me :(

TeacupTempest · 20/07/2011 13:29

Its so bizarre! Yep wind and constipation all contribute I am sure but I still find it so strange that my body can fluctuate so much from day to day. lol

mopsytop · 20/07/2011 13:42

Try it kri5ty - I bet you'll love it :)

my bump is still a bit just like a fat tummy - looks more like a bump when I am standing but fat when I am sitting.

Awomancalledhorse · 20/07/2011 14:43

When I lie down I don't have a bump, just a firm area around my internal lady junk, then I sit/stand up and it's just hilariously massive.
Seeing IL's this weekend, first time since we told them I was pregnant, at 5wks...will be interesting to see how they react to fat moi!
Anyone planning on going to the baby show in Manchester, in September?

OiMissus · 20/07/2011 15:25

Baby show in manchester??? More info please!
Lordy... can you imagine, all those bumps, hormones and flip flops in one room?
(I have noticed that heavily pregnant women only ever wear flip flops).

Awomancalledhorse · 20/07/2011 18:00

www.thebabyshow.co.uk/ I cannae hyperlink to save my life, so if this works it's a sign that we all must attend. Earls Court is closer for me, but as we'll, hopefully, be buying lots of stuff I can't face the tube with a moses basket & a 0-4 supply of nappies!

OiMissus, if you are going to book tickets, hang fire until tomorrow..I've got a discount code in one (of many) pregnancy magazine, I've just got to find it! Grrrh.
Just the sound of a thousand woman flip-flopping around will set me on edge!!

OiMissus · 21/07/2011 07:49

It's in my diary. Thanks. But I'm scared of buying anything now... what if I buy stuff now and then find it cheaper/better/... in September? Maybe I'll concentrate all my efforts into planning and saving, and not do any shopping. hmmm... that's going to be tough. We haven't bought anything at all yet, but had decided we'd start when we got back from our hols (now). :)

kri5ty · 21/07/2011 08:15

im thinking of going to the baby show oiMissus ihave just been keeping my eyes open for real bargains... if i find them i buy, as i figure i prob wouldnt get it that much cheaper! When i say bargains, i mean real ebay bargains, like a never been used before BT baby monitor that is like £80, and i got it for £10 woooo lol

OiMissus · 21/07/2011 08:50

Nice buy! Yup, I need to get busy on ebay for bargains like that. Then we can save our pennies for something special. I started looking at nursery furniture yesterday online. Yikes! - Why is it I only like the expensive stuff??! And why is it that if I was looking for a new bed for me, I'd look for a bargain, but with a baby... If I buy the stuff I like for the baby, it will have the most expensive furniture in the house - that it would only drool, dribble and poop on!!! Crayzeee!

  • We also need to find the sites that send free stuff. Don't know where it came from, but I got a 5oz Breast-something bottle in the post yesterday. It just arrived with a flyer advertising more stuff... and I'm going to enter every competition I can find. :) It could become a full time job. mumsnet, netmums, babycentre, ...
kri5ty · 21/07/2011 09:30

Oooo i want a 5oz bottle! i havent come across that one yet!!
We are just getting the cot bed etc off kiddicare... for the same reason.. it will get ruined! To be honest i am a bargain hunter anyway Blush i just picked up a baby bjorn synergy carrier and cover for £25... they are well over 125 both bought togetehr new... when it arrived it didnt even look used!!

people think i m crazy for buying stuff now, but my thinking is that i will get bits each month now whilst i have the money, that way it wont be a massive expense near the time! I also have a few boxes of nappies and wipes already!!

kri5ty · 21/07/2011 09:35

grr just went to buy my tickets for the baby show, but fogot my code, and i cant remember where it is now!

OiMissus · 21/07/2011 09:48

I agree, spending bit by bit means there's no massive outlay in November - just before Christmas. I also read somewhere that it's a good idea to get everyone's Christmas presents now whilst we still have the energy, then we don't have to trail around the shops when we are massive (in our flip flops in the snow ;) ) or with a new baby in tow. (but I'll never be that organised!)
I'm thinking of using washable nappies. My friend did. She bought a pack for £200, and loved them - and they saw her little one through. If you use disposables, apparently you'll spend over £2000 by the end - so washable ones are definitely worth considering!

kri5ty · 21/07/2011 09:58

I'm just a little worried about washable ones.. i don't know why, prob just the marketing of disposables is too good! I know it is silly, but i would just worry too much about nappy rash, leakages etc

mopsytop · 21/07/2011 10:25

As far as I can tell from researching this, kri5ty (as I also want to use non-disposables), so long as you try a few and find the ones that fit your baby properly, there is no more leakage than disposables and, in some cases, less. Re: nappy rash the only worry would be if you left your baby sitting in a wet nappy, so long as you change them frequently enough that would be fine too. It saves literally hundreds and hundreds of pounds and probably thousands if you have a second child as you can go on to use the same nappies for them. I am definitely going to try it anyway, at the very least. I am just going to get a few different types and see which ones work for my baby - they do advise to try several types as different babies are different shapes and some nappies won't suit them - and if it doesn't work out at least I will have tried. I hope it does though as I do want to save my pennies - I also like a bargain :)

OP posts:
kri5ty · 21/07/2011 10:33

hmmm you are convincing me! I am just worried i will pick the wrong ones and it will be a disaster! are there any brands that are "better" than others?

mopsytop · 21/07/2011 10:38

It is really important that you just buy or borrow one of several different brands and types and try them on your baby. Don't go and buy a whole set of one type as they may not fit your baby. You really need to try them first, and when you find the best fit, then you buy more of them.

I know that some NCT local groups lend out different types of non-disposables for trying them. Otherwise you can look online to get second-hand ones from other mums or just buy one each of several types. it's better if you can find someone to lend you them or pay a small fee to hire them as otherwise it's a bit of a waste of money.

But definitely, the advice I have been given is to try several types to find the one that best suits you and your baby. Things also like drying time have to be taken into consideration if you don't want wet nappies all over your house - and if you want to buy fewer they need to dry faster so you can use them again quickly.

OiMissus · 21/07/2011 11:55

Good advice - Mopsy - thanks. I think you can buy sample packs too - rather than investing in the full "pack". I bet the suppliers will be at the babyshow.
As for drying times - very important! - as is a tumble dryer I bet, or enough nappies and out-of-the-way space for drying nappies. I'd hate to have a house covered in drying nappies.

kri5ty · 21/07/2011 12:01

< is trying to think where i could dry them in the house >

Good thinking about the baby show! I bet they will have samples!

OiMissus · 21/07/2011 12:18

we're trying to sell our house at the moment so we can get somewhere bigger. I have a washer/dryer at the moment, but I doubt this will be good enough. a dedicated dryer in a utility room or garage is needed! (Oh a utility room! dreamy dreamy dreamy!)

mopsytop · 21/07/2011 13:58

I think you can get ones that dry super fast and you don't need a dryer for them - using a dryer would kind of kill the saving money thing. My friend has ones that are nearly dry after they come out of the machine! I think they are bum genius. If you google 'the nappy lady' there are all the products on her site just to get an idea of what's out there. I have a weeny weeny house and am not planning on tumble drying if possible so I need to find quick drying ones. I am going to use disposables for first 4-6 weeks at least though as they are so tiny until then, and start trying the non-disposables after that.

Well it's official I have a tiny penis growing inside me Grin I know I'll come round to the idea but at moment still a little disappointed it's not the girl I wanted but glad he's healthy. Was so worried when DH was driving to hospital I thought I was gonna throw up was shaking and on the verge of crying he would have laughed if he'd seen me in that state as I'm pretty unemotional normally. Turns out no movement the last few days is because the placenta is forward so he's been bouncing off that. Can't believe how clear it was the sonographer said they 95% accurate but I think with me she's spot on we could all see gender clear as day. Lots of legs kicking and waving and Got a really good look at his face when looking for cleft lip unbelievable really.

Have to have another scan as they couldn't see the spine from 3 sides went to the loo and jumped around but he didn't want to move but she said it's just routine and that the cerebellum looked fine and that would have been an indicator if spina difida. I'll have had 4 by then quite lucky really.

Ive said for couple weeks i thought it was a boy maybe intuition but Wow I'm going to have a son better start with some boy names. So glad we found out can think of him as something other than it now.

OiMissus · 21/07/2011 16:42

wow - your sonographer was informative! I had no idea what mine was checking for. All I knew was that she was doing lots of measurements to see that everything was normal and healthy. So we got the general all clear - but it's nice to know that at this stage they can and do check for evidence of cleft lip and other more specific info.
We opted to find out the sex. But my parents were so disappointed that we did, and they have said they do not want to know. So now we have to be really careful who we tell. - So we are still calling it "it" so that we don't let it slip!
