I am sure noone has noticed! I have noticed a few hairs peeking out on my neck. UGH. I have BLACK body hair so I need to keep a very close eye and have my tweezers handy for battle!

kri5ty · 12/07/2011 10:29

i do normally ... have very dark body hair... but for some reason my arm hair has now turned in to lonf fluffy blonde hair, and now i have my lovely beard to top it off :(

its just a shame by belly has started developing black hair... i wouldn;t hve minded blonde haha, i must be having a boy!!

mopsytop · 12/07/2011 10:39

Pregnancy is SO glamorous, isn't it!?

OP posts:
kri5ty · 12/07/2011 10:56

It sure is!

hairy, sweaty, swollen ankles, stretch marks, not to mention the weight gain and the "fat stage" before the bump is obvious to everyone!

it will sure be worth it though come December :o

Just been for 16 week midwife appointment. Heard little beans heart beat before he got all shy and disappeared. Feels like a long time till Christmas though!!!

mopsytop · 12/07/2011 19:00

Ooh, my 16 wk appointment is tomorrow - I hope I get to hear the heartbeat too! What happens at the 16 wk appointment??

OP posts:
newartriotstar · 12/07/2011 20:25

I've got my 16 week appointment tomorrow too! I had to ring up the midwife today about the outbreak of something "risky" at work and they said they'll check the heartbeat, take blood to check my immunity to the outbreak at work, possibly take blood for the downs screening test if I decide to have it and generally just had a chat. So glad I'm seeing the midwife tomorrow as have been feeling really upset today about my job putting my baby in danger.

mopsytop · 12/07/2011 21:48

Oh dear newart, I hope that everything is okay and that you are immune or, if not, they can mitigate the risk. How stressful. I hope the midwife can set your mind at ease. This is such a worrying time anyway, you don't need extra stuff to stress about. Let us know how it goes.

Just had my 16 week appointment - all is fine and I heard the baby's heartbeat - yay!

OP posts:
lalababy · 13/07/2011 13:39

Hi All... how is it going... I've been away for ages - but don't have the stamina to back through all 400 messages I have missed :o
I had my 16 week appointment on friday... but they didn't listen to the heartbeat... I feel completely cheated!

Anyway... I was wondering have any of you started shopping yet? My DH reckons I should wait till we have the anomaly scan at 20 weeks... but I want to start now!!!! In either case, I would love to discuss each item to buy in agonising detail!

mopsytop · 13/07/2011 14:48

I have to say, I fail epically on the shopping front. I am completely uninterested in buying anything for the baby! Maybe I will get more excited later on but right now I just find it boring. Especially things like prams. But even cots and clothes and things. I am going to try and get as much stuff second hand or on loan as I can (apart, obviously, from car seat and mattresses). My sister has a load of baby clothes from her little girls I can have - so if I have a boy he will probably have an alarming number of pink things :)

The only thing I have thought about is nappies. Is anyone else planning on trying non-disposable nappies? I have a few different ones a friend gave me and am going to buy one or two more to try several on the baby before I decide a) if I can do it (!) and b) which ones to use.

OP posts:
Awomancalledhorse · 13/07/2011 15:08

mopsytop, I could hug you! I thought it was me being weird & asperger-y because I'm not really excited about buying baby stuff, although I have bought a few bargain bundles of clothes on ebay.
MIL asked if we were going to redecorate the guest bedroom (sorry 'nursery'), wtf is the point of that? LO will be sleeping in our room for six months & when it's big enough to be kicked out into a different room it will be too small to care that the walls are cream!
We're getting most things secondhand too (MIL bagged us a cot last week).

We're going to try terry toweling nappies & some branded ones (think we're looking mostly at bumgenius or little lambs), MIL is taking us to a baby show in september so hoping to get nappies there at a discount.

Can you tell from this post that MIL is more excited about this baby than we are (her first GC)?!

Sweet that you heard the heartbeat at the MW appt Scota & Mopsy, sucks they didn't do it for you lala. My 16wk appt is tomorrow.
My blood tests came back that I'm not immune to rubella, cue massive panic whenever someone sniffles near me!
My sense of smell came back yesterday, still have a blocked nose though!

mopsytop · 13/07/2011 15:15

Yay - I am not alone! We redid my office (which is going to have to double as baby's room) in cream as it needed painting. No baby stuff or colours or anything. Baby won't know or care IMO and cream is a nice restful colour anyway. My desk is going to have to double as changing unit!

I don't think I am going to bother with towelling nappies and plastic pants, am probably only going to try the all-in-one (i.e. that have the waterproof bit as part of the nappy) - but I would like ones that are in one size (baby to potty) as much better value. Trying various brands. So far have heard that bumgenius is good and little lambs also.

I haven't lost my sense of smell or been too snuffly. But the killer migraines for the past 8 weeks might have made me less noticing of any other symptoms. So far I am 16+3 and no migraine since 16 weeks ... fingers crossed - feeling very optimistic!!

OP posts:
lalababy · 13/07/2011 15:16

Ha, ha... lucky little boy then :) I am thinking about some second hand stuff as well... but again I need to know what I am looking for! Truth is... I am just excited to go shopping.... I haven't bought a thing for myself recently other than a set of 4 maternity shirts from ebay (bargain!).

While I know non disposable is good for the environment... I just don't know if I can do it... the thought of everything leaking and sliding down my arms...
Although once you give it a try I'd be curious to know how it goes!

Awomancalledhorse · 13/07/2011 15:27

mopsytop, glad you've not had a migraine for a while! I've not had one for the entire pregnancy which is amazing considering I normally have one every fortnight. Fingers are crossed for you!

lalababy, the way I see it is both DH & I have (had in my case) encountered much worse at work so a bit of explosive diarrhea should be childsplay Grin.
We are planning to have a few packs of disposable in the house when it is born, just incase it's small or it takes us a while to get to grips with reuseable.

mopsytop · 13/07/2011 15:29

AFAIK lala they leak actually less than (and certainly no more than) disposables in terms of poo but I do think you have to change them a bit more often in terms of wee. Disposables also leak and I think poo incidents are definitely going to happen to all of us at one stage or another ! I think you need to wash them once every 2 or 3 days, which is the hassle-some part. One of my friends has them, however, and said it has been no problem and she now has them for her 2nd baby which is on the way, so it is a major saving. I hope I can manage it! That way I would get to be green AND a cheapskate at the same time!!! My plan would be to use them most of the time but if we went away for a weekend or whatever to use disposables then, so as not to have to be carting dirty nappies about ... !

OP posts:
lalababy · 13/07/2011 16:15

Ha, ha! I am obviously completely unprepared for all the poo!!! Here I thought i was going to get away till potty training without evening having to see it :)

Don't you have to wash the diaper each time you use it? Apparently there are reusable diaper laundry services... but then that pretty much kills any hopes of being a cheapskate.

mopsytop · 13/07/2011 16:31

Yeah you have to wash it every time. If you have about 20, you can get away with washing every second day. If you choose your nappy wisely, they can dry very quickly. And if you get the baby-to-potty ones, they last the whole way until your child is toilet-trained. Then you can use them again for the next baby (if you have one). You can put disposable liners in them that catch most of the poo, or use washable liners. I am just going to experiment with the various types and see what suits (and if they suit at all). If I fail, at least I will have tried!

newartriotstar · 13/07/2011 17:26

Had my 16 week appointment today too. Did hear heartbeat but had to ask for it!
Spoke to the midwife about the outbreak at school (slapped cheek) they're checking my immunity now and checking my booking in bloods again too to see if I was immune before. When I asked if I should go into work they were pretty clear that it's risky and a stressful situation to put myself in until I know whether I am immune or not so I've informed work that I wont be in until I get the results at least. I feel semi-relieved but the guilt of not going to work for a week when I'm not ill myself is overwhelming me a bit!

I'm not particularly interested in buying anything for baby yet either, I did spend a whole evening last week though looking at novelty costumes for it though :/ I'm thinking of doing disposable nappies, my midwife clinic run a nappy group every month for people to have a look at all the different types.

mopsytop · 13/07/2011 17:38

newart don't feel guilty at all about not going into work - there's no point putting your baby at risk, and your midwives advised you to anyway. So just enjoy the time off as an unexpected break and have a nice relaxing time.

Did you mean you are thinking of doing non-disposable? I think, from what I hear, that it's best to borrow or buy one of several types and try them on your baby before buying a whole lot. For example, one of my friends said she really liked one type of nappy but her baby's legs were just the wrong shape for it! So I really think you need to wait and see what your baby is like!

OP posts:
newartriotstar · 13/07/2011 18:00

I did mean I was thinking of doing non-disposable. My brain has gone completely to mush this week with all this drama!

figgygal · 14/07/2011 07:38

Oh my god I've put on a stone just weighed myself after a long weekend of friends visiting, bbqs and feeling bunged up (constipation really kicking in now). Not liking it gong to start swimming asap on the plus side 20 weeks next week and scan a week today.

kri5ty · 14/07/2011 08:57

Hi girlies

Just been reading through all your posts!

I'm not sure if i could handle non dispoable... not too sure why though? How do you get all of the poop off before you put it in the wash? I just have visions of washing my clothes after and them coming out smelling of poo!!

I am getting jealous of everyones 16 week apps, the MW didint even mention checking for a heartbeat, just dipped a stick in my wee and took blood preassure, was suprised they didint weigh me

figgygal i have put on over a stone :( but i had put most of this on in the first 9 weeks when all i could eat was junk food!

I have bought loads of baby things lalababy... but thats just as i am a plannaholic! And i would rather buy it now, while we have the money, than in a few months when OHs secondment at work is up... people keep telling me to wait in case something is wrong, but the way i see it is that i will have a baby at some point, so i will need everything!

lalababy · 14/07/2011 10:45

kri5ty don't feel bad - I was totally cheated during my 16 week appointment too. No heartbeat, no weigh-in... !!! But on the plus side - I have my 20 week appointment on the 5th of August and then I can listen all I want!

I haven't started shopping, it seems there is so much to sift through in terms of what is needed and what isn't - I do want to start working it out. Plus with everything there are so many styles / types etc it seems even deciding what brand is difficult!

With the diapers... I never really gave non-disposable a thought before this conversation.... but you never know.

kri5ty · 14/07/2011 11:51

lala i had a crazy panic moment, and started a thread, asking people to write EXACTLY what i will need, down to how many vests/ sleepsuits etc!!!

i am getting everyting!! but i am getting a lot of second hand / nearly new stuff to keep the costs down :-) i have had bargains galore off ebay!
