Ah clare how lovely...not long now :)

Gonnabe cling to your scan that you had lovely x and the bleeding has subsided, thats great :)

magic hang in there, you are doing so well :) I dont know if you have any experience of SCBU but its hideous to have to leave them behind, i was only 4 floors away from DS for 1 week but that was enough. Sounds like they are cooking fabulously and will be a good size when they come out so they may very well not need SC. FX

dorcas sounds like a wonderful birth experience :) Good on you. I watched a hyp birth the other day and the woman was practically asleep until needing to push, might have to investigate as i dont birth children easily!

loopy i hope you dont mind me asking, what is your chequered history re birthing? Lots of different experiences or all the same? Sorry for asking, you dont have to reply :)

ba8y it is terrifying after MC, MC takes all the goodness out of enjoying pregnancy...but i will try very hard to think positive mantra :)

CaribouMoo · 08/02/2011 19:45

Ba8y even the thought of a sweep makes me wince, hope you're doing alright now and that things start to happen for you.

Hey Dorcas, good to hear from you. How has your wee girl being doing?

8s glad things are more bearable for you at the moment. You're doing so well and we all have grumbles with one baby on board, so everyone understands how you must be feeling.

Lia do you think the evening primose will make a difference? Will you be taking raspberry leaf too?

Gonnabe i will confess to a little wee episode during a coughing fit many weeks ago but thankfully nothing since. I haven't even started doing pelvic floor exercises. I wasn't great at remembering when pregnant with DD so will need to get my act together. That's good to hear you are feeling more positive. I also watched OBEM and it obviously affected my dreams. I dreamt that I was in a queue of pregnant ladies, all politely taking turns to give birth. When it was my turn DH wasn't there but DS arrived (my sub-conscious blocked out how he actually got there!) and he was just perfect - with gorgeous dark brown eyes and hair and was clearly Asian, whereas me and DH are both fair skinned/ haired and blue eyed!! No idea what that was about but I was over the moon. Then it descended into a typical anxiety dream about not having brought any vests to the hospital for him etc!!

Clare my love, so close!! Its really exciting. Your wee family outing with DS sounds lovely too. I remember DH and I going out for dinner a few nights before my elective section and it was quite poignant, thinking that it was the last time there would just be 2 of us. Can't wait to hear your news x x

What's your news Nicks?

I am still totally fed up with work, which has gotten unbelievably stressful. The weather during commutes is compounding my misery, nearly getting swept away, trains cancelled because of flooding etc. ONLY 10 WEEKS TO GO TIL MATERNITY LEAVE!! Not that I'm counting...

AlbaDeTamble · 09/02/2011 09:30

Clare whilst I have a minute, want to wish you all the best for Thursday and looking forward to seeing you on the next thread when you're posting again.

Nickster I can highly recommend self hypnosis, I listened to the natal hypnotherapy CDs and read the book too, managed a filling with no anaesthetic late last year which was a really good test of how well what I'd learned works... And I had such an easy labour, it was quite different to first time round when I 'got through' each contraction with coping techniques, rather I could feel what was happening with each contraction. I had to think myself into it and work at it, not helped by midwife examining me when she arrived (only 2cms) and leaving an hour later declaring no progress... On Lia's suggestion I'd crawled back into bed and was hiding under my duvet making lots of progress, very quietly. I was happy to see the back of the midwife, I didn't like her, and anyway was way off in my own little zone and didn't want to talk so couldn't tell her.
An hour later, with some lovely gentle coaching from Lia and having got into the pool against midwife advice (she said it would slow things down, I wasn't worried about that and anyway the kids were all waking and DH needed to get them all ready for school and particularly needed to ensure DSS had breakfast as he had an AS exam that morning!)

I could feel dilation with each contraction, and thought I was close but '2cm no progress' made me slightly doubt myself. I suddenly had a panic 'I can't do this any more'... Classic transition. I think Lia and I both knew that, and minutes, maybe seconds later absolutely needed to push. Thankfully DH had popped up to see how we were doing. DS's childminder had just arrived to get him, I seem to remember DH shouting downstairs to let her know baby arriving, so she grabbed what she needed and whisked DS away for breakfast at her house, and DH got ready to catch the baby. Lia did a fab job keeping incredibly calm, coaching us both through what to do and calling the midwives back. Two pushes, one for the head, one for the rest with seconds between, and I just went with what my body told me, it was amazing. We sat in the pool with a warm towel over the baby to keep him warm, both my stepdaughters met their baby brother before nonchalantly heading off to school as 3 worried looking midwives and a blue lights ambulance (not needed!) arrived... And my lovely community midwife took over. That 15mins pause before they arrived was such a beautiful start.

Anyway I'm waffling a bit there, but I can't recommend natal hypnotherapy highly enough. Also yoga, I learned from that some seemingly silly techniques that truly worked. Breathing out like a horse... Puffing out through loose lips, hard to explain but horses do it, and it makes it impossible to clench your jaw and similarly you can't clench anywhere else and really helps things open up. Also groaning or ommm noises with out breaths again help you relax. All good stuff.

And doulas are very very helpful. Someone you know and trust who knows what you want and can guide you when you need someone to think for you and offer suggestions when needed that can keep you on track. Very helpful if you don't click with the midwife you get too, so you still feel safe and supported.

Hungry baby, must go, but waves to all, sorry can't stop and namecheck Blush, but thought my experience of 2cm not fully effaced to baby born in 2hrs and no need for pain relief might be helpful. Partly luck but I'm sure other stuff really helped.

toomuchteaching · 09/02/2011 11:37

Also just popping in to wish clare all the very best, you get to meet your little one soon. See you on the other side.

Waves to everyone else, hope you're ok Ba8y1 and things happen soon, and that everyone else is doing well too. Every time you read the thread do your pelvic floors!

lia66 · 09/02/2011 11:55

alba that brought a tear to my eye. It was truly inspiring to see you labour so well and birth your gorgeous little boy so beautifully.

carri I won't be taking raspberry leaf as personally, (just my opinion mind) don't think it does a jot of good. The difference in EPO is that it contains the same hormones that are present in semen and so gently encourage the cervix to soften over a period of time. Again, my opinion and it won't get you into labour if your body is not ready. After 37 (36 for me, shhh! Wink ) you can apply it internally by inserting a capsule last thing at night as close to the neck of the cervix as you can get, ( I used a tampon last pg). It will disolve over night.

No need to worry about the mw's wondering what on earth you've been doing if you happen to go into labour as natural bodily fluids would flush anything left out.

As A Doula I wouldn't recommend/advise anyone to do this as it's not my place but as a friend, if anyone asked me, I would tell them what I am happy to do with my body.

I used it from 35 and half wks in my last pg as I was facing an induction I didn't want at 38 wks, ( and I didn't know what then what I know now about my rights etc) and went into labour naturally at 37 wks, my only ever natural labour. Having said that, dd was 9lb 5 when she was born so whether she was ready to come anyway, I'll never know.

Again, am trying to avoid pressure to induce to will be self administering again.

ba8y1 hope you are doing well,

Hugs and a few hours sleep to those struggling in the night due to being huge uncomfortable, it won't be long now peeps.

Hope everyone has good day. :)

nickstermum · 09/02/2011 12:32

Good luck clare

ME alert, am terrified and very tearful.

just spent the morn in a& e having had a very wet brown bloody bleed in the night which smelt of amniotic fluid. No cramping just very tender. A&E couldnt scan me til friday morn at epu, private scan fully booked also til friday so just having to sit it out, in bed rest.

nickstermum · 09/02/2011 12:37

sorry stupid craptop posted it halfway through....

I know its brown, and the gynae said that was good(!) and it has stopped and its running clear now but the smell of TMI Blush sperm ie amniotic fluid was overpowering this morn.

Am terrified in case its MC starting up, am terrified in case babys ok but am losing water at 14+3

I need to try and think positively Hmm

Sorry for the mememe posts, wallowing a little!!

I am still retching when teethbrushing, have stripy norks and shattered....they just werent very reassuring at the hospital x

lucysnowe · 09/02/2011 13:01

Hi nickster

So sorry to hear that, must be soo stressful for you. Are you too early to ask midwife to check heartbeat for you? I'm sure everythings okay - as the gynae said - but having to wait till Friday, it's a long time.

I think it is quite common for some ladies to leak fluid, I think they just need to keep a closer eye on you and make sure you don't run out Smile. Take care of yourself.

shame · 09/02/2011 13:14

nick I'm sorry you are worrying. Friday must seem a very long way off. They could certainly pop you on a monitor to check for heartbeat, they did that for me when I had a fall at 15 wks in a previous pg. Maybe give day ward a call and ask.

Obviously I can't say everything will be ok, I wish I could but you know that brown blood is better (if thats possible).

For what it's worth, amniotic fluid replenishes itself constantly, if there is a little leak, then maybe it will reseal, it can and does happen. Also baby's head may well settle over and block the leak.

When you say running, how fast do you mean? Are you having to keep a pad on that is getting soaked constantly? or more trickling. Obviously trickling would be better.

I have to say, bed rest won't make an awful lots of difference to the outcome sadly at this stage so if you feel that you would rather be up, then do so but be careful and No lifting at all.

Let us know how you are, thinking of you. X

shame · 09/02/2011 13:16

sorry, had namechanged for a different thread, (it's Lia) Blush

Gonnabe · 09/02/2011 13:16

Ohhh nickster I'm so so sorry to hear this - I've got everything crossed for you. Try and rest now till Friday xxx

CaribouMoo · 09/02/2011 13:27

Oh Nicks, that's shit you're having a scare. No experience of this so can't say one way or the other what it could mean but hoping that everything will be ok. That's pathetic they can scan you until Friday either, they must realise you will be going out of your mind.

As Lia and Lucy have said, try contacting your MW to see if she can listen for a HB. Although, at my 16week appt the MW couldn't hear the wee man's so it might not help in the end - even if all is well.

Oh pal, I wish i could give you a big hug and force someone to scan you to put your mind at rest x x

nickstermum · 09/02/2011 13:30

Thanks guys, they said 14+3 was too earlyfor the hb. I have called the mw unit so just waiting for a call back.Sorry lia when i say running clear i mean that the discharge is clear now, ie when i wipe. The bleed had stopped by the time i got to hosp. Doesnt seem to be any more fluid (smell) anyway. Someone on another thread suggested an incompetent cervix, trying to stay away from doctor google though at the min!!

dorcas111 · 09/02/2011 13:34

Hi everyone, just popping back on while I have a moment. We are all doing well- bit of a tricky start with the breastfeeding, but I think we are getting there. I just can't believe how loved up I feel, I feel like I am on drugs! Can't stop staring at my gorgeous daughter and can't bear to be apart from her for a moment. I miss her when I go to have a shower!
Clareanna, good luck for tomorrow, will be thinking of you! I remember you getting your BFP soon after me- and look at us now!
Nickster I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. It is so stressful, especially when you have to wait for a scan, it seems almost cruel to make you wait that long, although I guess if they are booked up there's not much they can do. I really feel for you and will be thinking of you and keeping everything crossed.
Hi to everyone else.

CaribouMoo · 09/02/2011 13:36

Meant to say also, surely no pain or cramps is a good sign? Keep us posted with MW suggestions, don't be afraid to be pushy if she tries to fob you off.

Clare - all the best for tomorrow lovely lady. This time tomorrow baby brother will be here!! Looking forward to hearing your news soon x

Isn't it ridiculous the things you find yourself worrying about. Normally its about lack of movement but today the wee man has been kicking away non-stop since half 6 this morning. Instead of just being happy that I can feel him I'm now worried he's in some sort of distress. Has anyone else had their baby do this for such a prolonged period of time?

lia66 · 09/02/2011 13:38

God I hate that expression, Incompetent cervix. Angry

Hosp could certainly scan you to find heartbeat. If it continues I would try and push for ealy scan nick

Hopefully it is simply heavy wet discharge, sometimes that has a bit of a semeny smell about it in early pg.

Fingers firmly crossed foryou.

lia66 · 09/02/2011 13:39

cari this baby never stops moving, makes me feel quite sick sometimes. I do have the odd wobble, maybe it's disressed etc but in my rational, (eg, non pregnant) mind, I know it's unlikely.

clareanna · 09/02/2011 13:39

Hi all- thanks for your good wishes- very strange feeling to think that this time tomorrow baby brother will be here!

nicks I'm sorry you're having a scary time, please step away from dr google. I hope you can get a scan soon please keep calling for a cancellation- will be thinking of you and hope all is ok x

lia66 · 09/02/2011 13:40

clare have I missed something? Are you having cs? or induction tomorrow?

Muser · 09/02/2011 13:50

Nicks I hope everything is ok. Fingers crossed for you.

clare good luck for tomorrow!

nickstermum · 09/02/2011 13:58

Thanks guys, just veered near dr google but have shut it down..upsetting! Gah, too much info! I promise clare x

Clare i was going to say have a wonderful time tomorrow... then that just doesnt sound right....!! I hope your little one arrives safely and that your birth is easy, stress and trouble free xx and that you can enjoy a glass of bubbly sometime afterwards :) xxx best of luck xxx

AlbaDeTamble · 09/02/2011 14:05

Nicks thinking of you. My MW listened in and heard heartbeat at my booking appointment (14 wks), but, placenta high posterior and she's very experienced. It's not always possible so may worry you more to try.

As for scans, where do you live? In London some EPUs you can just show up with no referral and wait, elsewhere, with a bit of googling you can often find several not too far away (try fertility clinics too, they often do scans in-house and will do reassurance scans for a fee).

I'm a bit shocked they can't refer you same day for an emergency scan, it's so cruel that you're expected to wait.

Good luck and I do hope you get reassurance really soon

nickstermum · 09/02/2011 14:11

I live in cheshire. Our EPU is walk in too but only open in the morning. I have rung them. I've finally managed to get the MW and seeing her tomorrow after lunch so will try and tearfully persuade her to listen in.

In the meantime feetup, rest up, no lugging 3yo up the stairs, (or 7kilocat for that matter!!) and see where we go from here xx

AlbaDeTamble · 09/02/2011 14:11

Dorcas so pleased you're having a lovely babymoon. Feeding is hard work and tricky to start with, and midwives aren't always the best if it's not going well. If you feel you're struggling get help! Doula support and a lactation consultant sorted me out this time and without them it's highly likely I'd have ended up FF as I did with DS1. Not that that's the worst thing ever, but I guess I wanted you to know it's not always plain sailing and decent support and advice makes a huge difference. Good luck!

PenguinsMummy · 09/02/2011 14:12

Clareanna Best of luck for tomorrow - hope everything goes well.

Nickstermum FX that you get a scan soon. TMI Blush but I had a really heavy discharge with my last pregnancy which all turned out to be fine.

I saw the MW again today as I'm now even bigger and fairly breathless so MW reckons I definitely have polyhydramnios especially given I had it last time too, although as I am measuring 5 weeks ahead already it is more severe this time. So am getting scanned tomorrow and may then need to see consultant depending on results of scan. They will probably just need to keep an eye on me and do ELCS at 38wks rather than 39wks as don't want to risk me going into spontaneous early labour.

Waves to all.
