Before I get killed, I'm not suggesting it is only circumsion, that's just the title of this thread.

I'm due in less than 4 weeks and I'm having a boy. I'm definitely going to circumcise him. It's part of my culture and my partner's culture so it's going to be done. I just feel sad that it's seen as such a bad thing, where there are some benefits to it.

Anyone circumsised/circumsizing their sons?

GenevieveHawkings - they are not facts they are conclusions that you have reached (incorrectly!!) based on what I have said.

If people who have been through the procedure are not qualified to recommend it, how are you, who haven't been through it, qualified to state that it shouldn't be done?!? Laughable.....

GenevieveHawkings · 06/01/2011 17:58

My definition of hypocrite taken from the Cambridge dictionary

noun /ˈhɪp.ə.krɪt/ n [C]

"someone who says they have particular moral beliefs but behaves in way which shows these are not sincere"

Someone just like you SVH78.

SVH78 · 06/01/2011 17:59

Moron?! reducing yourself to personal insults?! Why would that be?!

I have not said that it would be pain free - I am sure that you have read my opinions on this point.

"unneccessary barbarism and violation of human rights" - again, this is your opinion which I disagree with!!

You think it's wrong, I think it's right - we're never going to agree on this issue so this is to a large degree pointless.....

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 06/01/2011 17:59

not laughable at all.

i have had a local anaesthetic in my perineum in order to have stitches following childbirth. i was crying like a baby when the needle went in and writhing in agony when the stitches were being done. it definitely was not minimal discomfort. now bear in mind taht teh amount of LA a baby can be given is reduced drastically because of teh risk posed. how do you think, if given a voice a baby would describe that pain? also bearing in mind that babies go into a catatonic trance when immense pain has been inflicted. it is a survival tactic.

SVH78 · 06/01/2011 18:00

GenevieveHawkings - we can't even agree on dictionary definitions hey!

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 06/01/2011 18:03

"We disagree on the pain and suffering point - so there is doubt on that point"

actually this is pretty much saying you think it is pain free, as is the post you made about there being minimal discomfort.

SVH78 · 06/01/2011 18:05

I've never said it is pain free.

You're totally missing the point again. These men are not qualified to comment on it because they can't remember anything about it so their opinions count for no more than you consider mine to do they?

I wouldn't recommend it simply because no one should be looking to inflict unnecessary pain and discomfort on a baby for no good reason. You can't use religion as a reason here because we've already seen that both you and your DH are quite prepared to totally disregard religion when it comes to who you would like to have sex with aand marry.

My own DH was circumcised at a young age, although not a baby, (he's a very lapsed muslim) and will readily tell he has no recollection whatsoever either of life with a foreskin or the procedure he underwent to remove it. He knows no more about what it's like to have a foreskin than I do.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 06/01/2011 18:07

so you agree it will hurt your child to have this done?

SVH78 · 06/01/2011 18:08

"My own DH was circumcised at a young age, although not a baby, (he's a very lapsed muslim) and will readily tell he has no recollection whatsoever either of life with a foreskin or the procedure he underwent to remove it. He knows no more about what it's like to have a foreskin than I do." - it clearly doens't have any psychological effects then does it?!?

So in conclusion - no one is qualified to comment on it, we have very differing opinions, we are never going to agree!

SVH78 · 06/01/2011 18:09

ILoveIt - no I don't agree. I think there may be some discomfort

GenevieveHawkings · 06/01/2011 18:10

Maybe not SVH78 but you remain a hypocrite (by my definition at least) and I'm off to have my tea.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 06/01/2011 18:10

what makes you think there may be some doscomfort?

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 06/01/2011 18:10

discomfort

ladysoandso · 06/01/2011 18:12

take a look at these images if you can stomach it

I think SVH is a troll.

Thanks to everyone else for the huge amount of knowledge I have gained in this thread. x

SVH78 · 06/01/2011 18:17

A troll!!! Very grown up!!! I'm definitely going to take your comments seriously now......

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 06/01/2011 18:22

what makes you think there may be some discomfort?

clumsymumluckybaby · 06/01/2011 18:35

well i tryed to read the whole of the thread. and i didnt make it.
im holding my 4 month old boy in my arms, crying.
i cannot believe a sane person would do this to a child that trusted them to protect, love and care for them.

i do not give a damn what some ridiculous book says,if i choose to believe in a god,i certainly wouldn't believe in one that asked me to inflict pain on my child.

there have been some very eloquent and intelligent posters on this thread,i am perhaps not one of them,
but at least i know wrong from right, and knowingly inflicting pain on your baby is wrong .and inflicting enough pain to send them into a catatonic trance is beyond horrific.

ladysoandso · 06/01/2011 18:36

Lol! In the 5 mins between our posts the only thing that outrages you is that comment. NO comment about the pictures.

You are devoid of all emotion.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 06/01/2011 18:38

clumsy it is heartbreaking isn't it? Sad i just couldn't comprehend wanting my child to suffer. it goes against logic.

clumsymumluckybaby · 06/01/2011 18:49

i just feel sick whenever i think about it.
i think i should hide this thread.Sad

clumsymumluckybaby · 06/01/2011 18:52

my son is ill at the moment,he keeps looking at me like he wants me to fix it.

i couldnt bear it if i knew, not only could i not make it better but that i had chosen for him to suffer.

BadBagel · 06/01/2011 18:58

SVH I will never understand your reasons and I think it is a real shame that you deny your son the opportunity to make his own choices regarding his circumcision.

SVH78 · 06/01/2011 19:44

Docile!!?? Lol

I am definitely hiding this thread - the hysteria, overreaction and personal insults have become completely ridiculous!!! Some people really need to get over themselves!

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 06/01/2011 20:32

like the ones circumcising their children for their own selfish reasons?
