Before I get killed, I'm not suggesting it is only circumsion, that's just the title of this thread.

I'm due in less than 4 weeks and I'm having a boy. I'm definitely going to circumcise him. It's part of my culture and my partner's culture so it's going to be done. I just feel sad that it's seen as such a bad thing, where there are some benefits to it.

Anyone circumsised/circumsizing their sons?

Larry that's not really that much of a big deal in the wider scheme of things is it?

My DH is circumcised (he was mutilated at an age young enough that he doesn't know what it's like to have a foreskin) and our DS (10) is fully intact. However, our DS knows exactly what to do to keep his penis clean. How? Well, we taught him what to do and also it was explained to them at school during a "changing bodies" PHSE lesson - PHSE being part of the national curriculum. It's hardly rocket science anyway and isn't really a skill that takes ages to learn like the piano is it?!

I really can't believe that you consider that particular aspect to be of such significance yet think that the infliction of totally unnecessary harm and suffering on a child BY ITS OWN PARENTS is really not that much of a big deal because babies and children soon forget and grow up to have no complaints/regrets are all happy because they have low maintenance easy-clean penises
that deluded people like you think are incapabale of passing on anything nasty to anyone.

My DH was circumcised for ritual reasons and brought up in a culture where every male child was done - FFS in the culture he grew up in they even throw parties afterwards and parade the poor little kids around in little suits specially made and sold for the occasion!!

But even he can see that ritual circumcision is utterly morally wrong.

I don't give a flying one about any religion or any culture - some things in life are just plain WRONG and setting out to deliberately and intentionally inflict totally unnecessary harm and suffering on a child - any child let alone your own - is just WRONG, WRONG, WRONG and should be recognised as such by anyone's standards.

yuck @ the thought of pirecing my child's ears. why would I? I'm not some sort of sadist.

also, you cannot justify circumcision of an infant by saying you wont know how to tell him to clean his foreskin. that is amongst one of the most ridiculous things i have read on thsi thread.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 07/01/2011 22:39

good point Imarried. i wonder should i hold auditions now for the man who has to teach my sons to wash? Hmm

It's barbaric and ought to be banned.
