Postgrads thread here

AlbaDeTamble · 02/01/2011 08:04

How's the overdue club at the top doing today? I'm about to join you, not a single sign of imminent arrival here...

Hope the list's ok, I'm not so good at pretty bold names... Typing on phone as it's easier whilst bouncing on my ball (fat lot of good it's doing...) but must stop being impatient, maybe I have a really well behaved boy who'll arrive tomorrow on his due date.

Postgrads link at the bottom of the list, I do hope to get there soon!

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 02/01/2011 11:25

congrats sparkley

welcome to all the new people, sorry I can't namecheck, there is soo much to catch up on!

wild pompom waving for everyone at the top of the list!

I'm sure bubs has had a growth spurt. I'm now almost the same size as I was with DS at 32 weeks.. Piccie here

and on that note - wooohooo, I've got to 24 weeks :)

and I can breathe again!

Gi1da · 02/01/2011 14:46

Hello ladies!

Bunny how'd it go with the osteopath, things warming up? Sounds like you have a good plan, good luck with the reflexologist too. Must be a relief to know that you have a date (well near enough) if nothing else gets little one moving. Was your induction ok before? Am a bit worried about it, have been reading up on stories from the Childbirth thread, seems like people either found it totally ok, or hated it for being too much to soon.

Alba Smile at you putting the homebirth kit in a cupboard, I balefully glare at mine everytime I see it. No wonder the mws weren't in any hurry to get it to me, they must know something I don't!

Clareanna sorry to hear about the SPD, what an arse.

Toomt hope things warm up for you soon. I wish I could clear a bit of room at the top of the list but I feel like I will be sat there for ages like some ginormous ever-preggers Miss Haversham.

Lia hope you're doing alright, sounds like you've had a right old battery of tests.

Congrats to everyone starting the New Year on mat leave, I've had to pop in to work briefly a couple of times (no problem as it's right next to where I go for acupuncture) but I do feel quite removed from it. I just listen to all the office politics and think bloody ell - how ever did I use to deal with all this childish crap every day!

Happy hope you get some help with not feeling on top form. Get well soon lovely.

Ivy 24 weeks, congrats, amazing how fast it suddenly starts to go. Smile

Orangegloss totally understand the nerves, keeping fingers crossed for you and wishing you a sucessful scan x

How goes it CariMoo? Will you find out at your scan if you're having a boy or girl, or are you going for the surprise on the day?

Best wishes to everybody xx

OrangeGloss · 02/01/2011 14:52

No sooner had I posted then I went to the loo, wiped and had red blood (just once). I've had brown spotting after that and mild discomfort. I have a scan tomorrow. Did anyone else have this? Sorry for selfish post, am just worried :(

Gi1da · 02/01/2011 15:02

Orangegloss sorry to hear that, I know how worrying it all is. Didn't happen to me, but there has definately been early bleeding from other ladies on the thread here. We've had some friable cervixes, implantation bleeds and just totally unexplained cases. Great news that you managed to get a scan tomorrow. Hopefully they will be able to put your mind at rest. Just try (and I know hard hard this is) to not think about it too much today and rest. Sending you best wishes x

PenguinsMummy · 02/01/2011 16:59

Congrats to Zayja and Sparkly on their arrivals.

Happy New Year to all. Xmas Smile

lia66 · 02/01/2011 17:58

hi everyone,

happy new year to one and all. Xmas Grin

Big congratulations to sparkly and zayja on their new arrivals, what a lovely start to the year, enjoy your babymoons.

orange sorry to hear you are worried, noone can know for sure I'm afraid, hope tomorrow brings reassuring news for you. (((())))

Been quiet here although we did brave Ikea today to get the girls a wardrobe as theirs is about to completely fall over I fear. I've got a little man coming on the 11th to start work on all the little odd jobs that have never been finished, putting large mirrors up, finishing gloss paint in various rooms, fixing hole in ds's room, etc etc. Will be nice when he's finished.

Am also looking forward to SHameless starting back on the 10th Jan, anyone else an addict? Love it, have watched every single series.

Good luck to all at the top, come on ladies, you can do it.

Oh and I've started to get itchy on left hand so looks like it'll be induction for me in 10 wks, eek. Not fussed about induction, just the 10 wks bit!! Shock

Waves to everyone else

*louise( hope you had a quiet and very uneventful New year, look forward to seeing you back amongst us very soon. xxx

malteser1981 · 02/01/2011 18:47

Just to let you all know I am watching and waiting for the new arrivals, don't expect much posting though as Eli is a hungry lad, 8lb 6oz at birth and growing by the day! I am yet to get to grips with the 1 finger typing whilst breastfeeding! xx

crochetcircle · 02/01/2011 20:05

hi orangegloss and welcome to the thread. I had a mmc last time round too, so like you was/am very sensitive to anything out of the ordinary in the first trimester.

It might reassure you to know that I had a small amount of brown discharge and a tiny wipe of blood at 7+5 this time round. Rushed to EPU for a scan, as this was how it started last time, thinking it was all over, and certain that I could feel cramping too. However, everything was fine and I'm now 17 weeks. FWIW once I'd seen the blood I think my mind invented the cramping, because as soon as the scan was over it stopped. The sonographer couldn't really explain what was causing the bleed but it didn't cause any lasting problems.

My SIL also had a small amount of bleeding just before 8 weeks that carried on sporadically to 11 weeks - she's one week ahead of me - and everything was fine with her too.

Good luck getting through this difficult time of the pregnancy. If you are worried I think you would have grounds for an early scan, unless you want to hold out until the one you have booked. There wasn't much to see at my early scan, although obviously there was enough to tell that everything was ok - but they are pretty small at that point!

Good luck to the ladies at the top of the thread, and congrats to sparkly and zayja on your new arrivals.

How are you doing apples ? My bump seems suddenly huge - I'm not sure when it happened! Have you felt any movements yet? I'm not sure what I'm looking for as this is my first, but I have definitely felt a few things that probably aren't wind-related (i.e. followed by an emission!) - mostly in the evening when I am lying down quietly. Its exciting, although I think that maybe I will never stop worrying about whether this will be a healthy baby.

nickstermum · 02/01/2011 20:28

Apples are you really 16 weeks already? Gosh that's flown!

Orange... ((hugs))

Well my feet are up, will be 9 weeks on tuesday, had another day of a little brown goo, but nowt more than I had been having up to the scan! Major knicker checking going on, even when we were out for a country walk today but it seems to reassure me!! Porn star norks galore which is great, here's hoping they stick around!! Only 3 more weeks to the next milestone..... Wish I could go to sleep and wake up then!!

Hope all the new babies are feeding well, being good, and that the ladies nearing the top of the list are gearing up for birthing!

Ladies around the halfway mark, hope you are getting lots of movements and everything is good :)

Waves to everyone else xx

sparklyrainbow · 02/01/2011 21:48

Belated Happy New Year to you all....

Alex and I are doing well, him more than me after such a long first stage and a drawn out second stage as he was so big and I was so tired- ended up with forceps delivery and a 3rd degree tear. I'll spare further details but I ended up with a full complement of drugs/epidural to cope and still struggled. He was slightly jaundiced but seems to be improving now, though breastfeeding didn't happen which I'm a bit :( about (though it does mean DH can share the feeds which has its advantages with the pain I'm in!).

Before I go back to gazing at my son I'll just add what others have said- this thread is amazing and I don?t think I?d have got through pregnancy without it.....and now I have a baby Grin

Hope there?ll be some more names underneath mine soon and many more post-grad babies to come in 2011 xx

sparklyrainbow · 02/01/2011 22:08

Pics of Alex on my profile if anyone's interested! :)

nickstermum · 02/01/2011 22:28

Ah sparkly congrats xxx
My labour/del with my son was pretty similar to how you describe, although wasn't a big one. Well done for getting him out :) although sorry re the bf :( enjoy every minute!!

Can anyone remember how soon a Doppler can detect the heartbeat?? Can't remember!!

toomuchteaching · 02/01/2011 22:47

Just wanted to say fingers crossed for orangegloss tomorrow, hope you manage some sleep and that you get good news.

And malteser Eli is such a gorgeous name. I'd update the list but at 10.30pm it's not quite worth it - I promise to try tomorrow ladies. Glad you're enjoying him, sounds so lovely.

sparkly sorry to hear about your difficult delivery and feeding, but so glad you're enjoying Alex! Oooh I'm getting excited.

Don't worry Gi1da, I don't want to jump the queue, I'm happy to wait my turn, it's just that nothing is happening here. Except I'm super uncomfortable and hence burst into tears today when I could only find one sock. Stupid hormones!

MW listened for a heartbeat and got it at my appointment at 13+1 (just checked my notes)... but I might just have been lucky, she did say she wasn't sure she'd find it. But she knew my history and offered to try. As for home ones, I've really no idea when you can start using them, sorry nickstermum.

Waves to everyone else, sleep well Envy

appleblossoms · 03/01/2011 08:18

Morning ladies, on my phone so excuse layout and any typos!
orange sorry you've had a scare, have you had any more blood? I bled quite heavily post sex Blush at 12 weeks right after my scan, midwife booked me straight in for another scan and all was fine. Doctor thought it was cervical something, basically cervix will bleed when irritated or when I do too much...hubby's refusing sex for entire pregnancy now! But at least little bean is healthy. Good luck for your scan today!
nix I can't believe i've got this far already either! 17 weeks, flip, I swear I only took the test last week. Sorry about your goo...stupid bodies keeping us on our toes!
crochet my bump has done the same! I'm suddenly huge, and since i've only put on a pound in the last couple of weeks i'm pretty sure it's down to baby and not mince pies and christmas cake. I think i'm starting to feel movements. I get these tickling feelings inside which I remember from ds and the occasional poke but feel silly thinking it really is the baby. Stupid mmc has left me totally unable to trust how I feel!
Yesterday I got a couple of 'tightenings' across the top of my bump...i doubt they were BH as surely it's far too early...any ideas what it might be people? Should I worry? Or tell dh I need to spend the day on the sofa? Wink
Hope you ladies at the top aren't too uncomfortable. Looking forward to lots of lovely birth stories soon.
Very jealous of those starting maternity leave, i'm trying to decide when to start mine...
sparkly congrats on little alex. A shame the start hasn't been exactly as you'd hoped, but I bet you don't care when you look down at that snuggly little bundle!

clareanna · 03/01/2011 08:57

Ahhh sparkly he's beautiful- well done you!! I too had a similar labour and just wanted to let you know that I healed really well- you'll be fine. My milk also took ages to come in (5 days) due to birth trauma and it wad a very stressful time- given how big alex is I'm not surprised you needed to ff don't beat yourself up about it (hug). btw- if stitches are bad, kotex nighttime pads were the softest I could find!! Oooh you're bringing it all back...

nix a lot of it depends on where your placenta is as to whether you can hear a hb - my mw couldn't get one at my 16 week appt, so pls don't worry too much if you can't get one yet.

orange I had some bleeding at 6 and 9 weeks with my ds. I had an mmc at 13 weeks and had no bleeding in that pg, so bleeding isn't necessarily a sign that things aren't going to plan- but I know how worried you must be - I'll be thinking of you today x

ivy hurrah for 24 weeks!!!

toomt can you pass on the forklift when you're done with it?! Turning over in bed is a new form of torture! And quite frankly dropping a sock is close to disaster in my book- can't wait to be able to bend over again!

How are the rest of the top of the list club doing? alba gi1da bunny sending you positive labour vibes~~~~~~~~~~~
just realised that when you do all have your babbas I'll be scarily near the top - eeek!!!

Had a Angry moment yesterday when my mum helpfully reminded me that this time last year she told me not to worry and that this time next year I'd have a baby and my mmc was just a hiccup. She just doesn't get it!!! Grrrrr

apple if you're worried call your mw for advice. In the meantime nothing wrong with a duvet day if you feel it's what your body is telling you! I def got some twinges if I'd done too much.

Muser · 03/01/2011 09:09

Alex is gorgeous, well done sparkly.

CaribouMoo · 03/01/2011 12:05

Hi all, just a quickie as we're on our way out to see Megamind. orange I'm sorry you're having such a worrying time. Like Gi1da I have no experience of this, both mine were missed MCs with no bleeding. I too have read of others who had bleeding yet all was well, so keeping everything crossed for you today that you get good news.

Sparky lovely photo of your little man - he is a big baby, I'm wincing at your story. He is totally worth it though, well done again.

Gilda you still hanging in there? I already know we're having a little boy, we found out at our private scan just before Christmas! Will ask them to double check though at the anomaly scan on Wednesday.

Any word from GLB? Clare hope you're coping with your SPD. When I got a booklet on it with DD it reminded me of syphilis instead of symphysis, so I affectionately called it my syphilis from there on in! You've probably worked this out by now but sit down to put your clothes on - I did myself a mischief many a time trying to lift a leg to get trousers on.

Nix i think its around 16 weeks with a doppler, maybe earlier if its a MW using it?

Better hop it before we miss the movie x

Gi1da · 03/01/2011 12:08

Big hug for Sparkly. I hope you have a really speedy recovery and wish you well settling in with your lovely Alex. Well done you for getting through it Smile.

Thoughts going out to OrangeGloss for today's scan.

Luckybear looking forward to hearing from you.

Bunny good luck with the reflexology today!

Waves all around xx

Still NOTHING going on here! Gaaahhhh!!!

Postgrads thread here

Redheadgal · 03/01/2011 12:51

Just to add my tuppence worth. I had bleeding twice with this pregnancy (first at 7 weeks - 'old implantation bleed' and again the morning of my 12 week scan - 'friable cervix'). Neither time did it amount to anything serious. Like others I had an mmc beforehand and had absolutely no bleeding. I think we're just more attuned to any problems now.

Absolutely nothing happening here. Apart from major insomnia, but now the final test is under way that's not too much of a problem. Can't get comfortable anywhere and getting out of bed is a military operation. Got excited when I felt some cramping last night, but zilch this morning, so still waiting. Just troughed my way through a whole pineapple. I know, I know, I need at least another 7 before anything can hope to happen, but it makes me feel better.

Sparkly - Alex is lovely although I'm wincing and crossing my legs at the thought.

Meita · 03/01/2011 13:08

Congratulations Sparkly, Alex is a real cutie! Sorry to hear about the pain and the BF. Were you very set on BF, i.e. are you very upset about it now? Usually I'd say "whatever works (best) for you" but if you really, really wanted to BF perhaps there are still ways to get there. It would be hard work, mind, and with no guarantees of success, but I believe there are MWs out there who would help you re-lactate if you really wanted to.

Also want to join in the general thread-appreciation society Wink. I joined this thread just about a year ago, after getting an early December BFP - sooooo much has happened in this last year, and this thread has always been such a pillar of support. I feel very attached to you all! soppy kisses and hugs all round

Louise I wish from the bottom of my heart that this year will be good for you.

OrangeGloss · 03/01/2011 15:15

Thanks for all your kind support. I measured about 5 weeks and no heartbeat (6+5 by LMP) so am waiting for blood tests to see if it's on the way up or down.

Sorry for not being more sociable and really selfish, I'm perhaps here too early even if it is just semi-lurking :(

louisesh · 03/01/2011 15:38

Thanks very much Meita ,Lia and Happygirl Your sentiments are lovely .XXXX

Happy new year to all.
