Not fair....where's my snow???? We've had a light dusting but hardly anything worth metioning....still bitterly cold though Angry The chickens' water keeps freezing and the door to their run keeps sticking so I can hardly squeeze my bump through (must sort it before I get any bigger lol)
Sending good vibes to those at the top, hoping we have some baby news VERY soon Grin

That sounds positive unbuffy (from someone who doesn't know anything about labour though!) but hopefully if the contractions are starting to get stronger then one of these days soon it will get going properly? Fingers crossed for you.

oh stuffed as much as the snow looks super super pretty i think be glad you don't have any.. i'm stir crazy here - we haven't been out of the house now since THursday and bbc news just said more snow in the North East like honestly it's just getting a bit crazy!

no news here in happy land, just pretty much sitting all day, the house is tidy, DH is on a planned day off but sure we can't go anywhere so it's a quiet day here. No sign of baby making any appearance. No B Hicks or contractions now in 2 days, do get a bit of a pain at night time and baby seems quite low down but that's about it. Feels like it's all WEEKs away yet!! Heard some bad news baby wise though about a sister of one of our friends so that has made me just relax and be super thankful and if baby doesn't arrive for weeks then that's fine.

Unbuffy · 29/11/2010 13:58

Very quick stop-and-run, leaving mince pies and link...

something may be happening but don't get your hopes up...

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 29/11/2010 15:42

eeek!!!! Buffs!!!!!

HappyGirl1 · 29/11/2010 16:34

oh wowsers!!!!!!!! Unbuffy best best best best best best of luck for you and DH and baby Smile.. Excited now!! Super excited!

toomuchteaching · 29/11/2010 16:57

Sorry in advance for a me me me post... except for a quick oooooooh yay for unbuffy, good luck!!!

So I slept soooo badly, because my hips were really painful and I was feeling crampy. Put it down to a bit of SWithoutI (that'll teach me), but cried when I woke up because I was still in pain down the left of my bump and I'd hardly slept.

Then all day I've had really bad cramp like lower back pains, and tightenings all over my bump. They're not really like BH because these ones hurt, whereas BH are just a weird feeling.

I walked into one of the offices in school and the lady in there just went "My gosh you've dropped really low." But when you've got nothing to compare it to how do you know?

So basically I'm scared. This is just 34 week uncomfortableness right!? Or post sex crampiness!? I've left it too late to call my midwife, and to be honest I'm not really a phone up just in case kind of person.

Bambino is still moving around, but maybe not as much, it's so hard to tell because I'm probably being paranoid.

Reassuring words from those who've done this before would be great... TMT x

Gi1da · 29/11/2010 17:28

Wish I had some advice for you Toomt but am another first-timer. Maybe have a bath and see if that helps your body relax. If still crampy after maybe try posting on childbirth to see if someone more experienced can offer suggestions? Maybe Lia will be around or checking in on Buffs and may be able to help?

Am sure is all fine but know how nerve wracking it is when you don't know what's what.

And another ooooooooooo for Buffs x

clareanna · 29/11/2010 19:05

toomt the theory is that because sperm contains prostaglandins it can help things along with ripening the cervix if you're due, but it's very unlikely to cause you to go into premature labour

Hope over onto the link that unbuffy posted, the marvellous lia has been on hand with advice for her on how to tell if it's something happening or not. It could be a combination of baby engaging, and you overdoing it, but best to keep an eye on things and you should have an emergency MW phone number on your notes.

There's nothing wrong with phoning up if you're concerned. What will happen is if the MW is concerned you'll go into the pregnancy assessment unit (like a triage area) and they'll put a monitor on you to see if they are contractions.

I went in twice before I actually went into labour Blush but the MW would rather see you and reassure you than not.

Have a nice relaxing bath and see what happens - that may make tham go away.
Take care xx

CaribouMoo · 29/11/2010 19:44

I can't comment on either situation for Buffs (sounds promising though!) or TooMT as I had an elective section with a breech DD. So another who has a child but will be experiencing labour (hopefully) for the first time. Good luck both! Also TooMT I remember my boss' bump dropping about 8 weeks before she was due and her DS arrived just a few days after her due date. As clare suggests though, give them a call if you're worried.

Loopy that's lovely news! I do feel a little for your DH but he must be used to it by now. How are you doing Malteser, did you get checked out?

Louise I hope you've had some better days since your last post. Ivy I'm sure those things were said in the heat of the moment, hope you've made up.

Gi1da I can't comment on cats, having no experience of them. Although I have had house bunnies and wanted to get one when we moved in her a few months before DD was born. I'm glad I didn't to be honest, coping with a newborn and sleep deprivation was more than enough to contend with. cats are not much work though, are they?

8s that's good to hear you're feeling well rested. Listen to your body and good on you for cutting back on work.

No news here, snowing AGAIN. Struggled to get to work today so who knows what tomorrow will bring!

Can any of you remember when you first felt your baby move? I can't remember with DD but am sure it was before 20 weeks. Hoping I get to feel my bean soon - which will no doubt give me something else to obssess about!!

Gi1da · 29/11/2010 21:34

Chin chin OOJolls Smile

Re cat, DH gave me that long suffering look and gently but firmly reminded me I promised to wait till bobbins was here. Also then less gently pointed out that while he is quite happy to be on nappy duty, him dealing with cat litter is beyond the pale. Ho hum. I know it makes sense and there will be plenty more kitties needing homes come spring. [sigh]

Caribou (can't type that without hearing the Pixies) I know I did feel movements before 20 weeks but it was all a bit uncertain as I wasn't sure what they were supposed to feel like. By 20 weeks was certain it wasn't just indigestion or wind! Blush

Excited to hear we might get some snow tomorrow, though have lots to do on Wednesday so hope it's not too disruptive. As well as acupuncture and mwife, am going to pick up my eBay pram..V excited!

Muser · 29/11/2010 22:46

I hope it's happening Unbuffy oh she could be snuggling her new baby now. How very lovely.

Gilda you are mad Grin. Now is definitely not the time for new cats.

HappyGirl1 · 29/11/2010 23:02

TooMuch I agree, prob best just to give the MW / Mat Ward a buzz just to be sure and they really don't mind you calling at all. I was told similar that I had dropped lots at 33/34 weeks and I'm still here despite p pains, ctx, bhicks etc but yours do sound more regular. Best of luck and let us know Smile

Gilda tricky re the cats but maybe DH is right that when baby gilda arrives you will be super busy and can get another cat then? Ps agree with you on the movements for Caribou.. about 18 weeks I wasn't sure what I was feeling as didn't know what to expect but by about 20 weeks knew the difference between tummy rumbling and movements.. it's a really really exciting time when you can start to feel your baby Smile

Unbuffy - have posted on the other thread but best best of luck for labour, certainly sounds like you are on the way Smile. So jealous of how calm and relaxed you are. I hope I'm the same!

SamanthaB123 · 30/11/2010 07:48

Wow loads of news, I'll have to name check properly later as I'm already moving onto the second side and there won't be time. Just wanted to reply to TooMuch though. The first thing is that you should really get any worries checked out. We all take a couple of trips to the delivery suite prior to labour, it's normal and almost expected I suspect. No-one has ever made me feel anything other than relaxed and welcome and I have gone home feeling reassured. I always carried my babies low from fairly early on. I experience a lot of sensation in my groin area behind by pubic bone, discomfort but not pain. I often felt like if I sneezed the baby might fall out - this was not the case! The pains that you have should probably be checked out just err on the side of caution. Labour is different for every woman so your contractions might feel like that. Mine were all in my pelvis, front and back. Hope you are feeling better today, SB x

toomuchteaching · 30/11/2010 08:30

Thank you everyone for your support... so in the end my DH picked me up from work and I promptly burst into tears, and he insisted we called into the GP on the way home just to get their take on in. The receptionist fitted me in for a quick appointment.

Told the GP what had been going on, and she said the baby did feel low but that it was still bobbing in and out, but since I wasn't certain about the reduced movement side of things I'd better go to the labour ward to get checked out.

Off we trotted to hospital, at around 6.30. Eventually got in to an admissions room and hooked up to monitors around 7.30. By 8 I'd done the press the button when you feel a movement thing, and realised I probably was feeling plenty of movements, but had just got myself worked up. The trace was all fine, although contractions were dead on 5 and a half minutes apart.

We then waited until 9.45 for a doctor to come, all the time getting hungrier and feeling like a bit of a fraud, but eventually she came and when I said the only thing I could compare the pain to was when I MC'd she made me feel like I'd done the right thing. So got checked out, cervix closed, and have been swabbed in case of any infections causing the pain - which is probably a good thing in light of the thread.

I went home around 10.30, still with the cramps all round my back and lower abdomen, slightly worried that this would go on for the next 5 weeks. But I've woken up this morning and they've gone. So obviously something was going on and it's not just the typical pain I've got to resign myself to.

They're sending me for a doppler this afternoon just to check blood flow, but I feel so much better for the reassurance.

Only thing is it's made me want to be on the MLU even more - the admissions room was really grotty, and you could hear what was going on in the other rooms etc. I'm sure in the real thing I won't care, but I just didn't love it.

Sorry for mammoth update... thank you so much for the reassuring words ladies, you feel like a bit of an idiot causing a fuss, but on balance I'm glad I got checked out. Really want bambino to stay put for another few weeks, so fingers crossed.

Hope everyone else had a good and quiet evening, except unbuff who might be about to relinquish her place at the top... woopwoop. Will let you know how I get on with the doppler later (if I don't get snowed out of school... come on!!)

Muser · 30/11/2010 09:15

Glad you went in toomuch, definitely the right thing to do. And I'm glad it was all ok and you're feeling better today. What a scare.

Does everyone have snow now? I am using it as a reason to work from home. Lovely!

Redheadgal · 30/11/2010 09:36

Glad you got yourself checked out Toomuch and hope all's well with the doppler later on.

Rooting for uptheduffyBuffy - not going to be able to say that much longer! :-)

Had cmw appt yesterday - with my actual midwife. No really. 34 weeks and 4 days before I met her. She's nice, very Irish and, most importantly, she listened to us. Hopefully she's going to put my case to the head of midwifery support at the birthing centre. We'll probably have to have another meeting about it, but am keeping my fingers crossed. In other news, apparently the baby's head is engaging, which explains the low-down-there pains I've been getting. It's like she's head-butting my cervix

Snow here and soggy, wet cats - lovely! Gilda don't know what to advise. When we met our cats at the Cats Protection League we just knew they were ours and had to have them. If you feel that way, go with your gut instinct. On the other hand, it's probably going to be quite a stressful time for you, your DH and the new cat. It's possible that they might not let you adopt just yet - some of the rehoming places are really fussy about the cat's new home environment and bringing a new baby into the mix, which understandably will mean the focus will shift away from the new cat may mean they're less than enthusiastic. On the third hand, it's coming up to Christmas time and despite all the advertising over the years, it remains a busy time for pet charities.

Waves to all! Enjoy the snow and be careful on the ice!

Unbuffy · 30/11/2010 10:27

No news here, except a powercut making it impossible to post Smile. Still getting cx but very much on a 'wait and see' basis here.

Toomuch you did the right thing getting it all checked out, better you being reassured than all the stress and pressure on you and baby. V glad all well for you both.

Gilda unless you feel that that is definately YOUR cat i really would wait a bit. Puppy is just about settled in here and she was BORN here, so has never known anywhere else! I'm glad in a way we've had a couple more weeks than i thought we'd have to settle her down (and get the piddletraining more sorted) before babybuff arrives. but what do i know about cats?

Special waves to OysterBayJolls

Still in the race, Happy... It's anyone's game...

Hi everyone I've missed!

sparklyrainbow · 30/11/2010 11:03

Toomuch glad everything is ok, what a scare! Hope doppler is good today as well (and that you have a snow day!)

Go Buffy, hope things build up again for you now you've got power again. Can't be fun but you do seem very calm! ~:)~ ~:)~

RHG I've had more of those pains, think DS has wriggled his way down a bit more. Had started to engage a couple of weeks ago. Bit uncomfy though, loads of pressure 'down there'.

Had physio again yesterday, good news is muscles are working more normally now and I just need to keep up my stretches and make sure I labour upright/leaning forward. Had loads of quite regular BHs last night, ended up in the bath at midnight. Wriggler's position didn't help, think he was trying to push his way out of my right side with his knees/feet. Ouch. Having a lazy day now to make up for it!

Hope everyone else is ok and snow isn't causing too much hassle.

zayja · 30/11/2010 11:48

So exciting to hear you're getting ctx buffy , hope they pick up today. Being a first-timer, I'm sooo excited to get a first real ctx and also quite curious as to what it feels like. Guess we'll see...

redhead, glad to hear you found a great midwife. So important to have a good fit. DH and I visited a few pediatricians and found a lovely one with whom we're happy last week - made my day!

toomuch, glad you got checked, you shouldn't feel funny about it at all. Reassuring to know everything's alright and also that you can go in again if worried!

Well happy, I'm in the same boat with you - just about. Feeling mostly ready, just a few last things to do. Keep telling babe that we should make it to the weekend and then she can come anytime. On her due date next Sat. would be perfect! Debating whether or not to keep working if I go past my due date. Would like time to nest at home, but the earlier I leave, the earlier I'll need to come back, so that'll be time away from baby. Any advice?

Take care ladies!

SamanthaB123 · 30/11/2010 12:16

We have snow and Ruby has a cold coming. Can't post properly as holding her oddly. Children & DH home for the day too. Still snowing heavily.

Hope you are ok today toomuch and that buffy's contractions regulate soon enough. Once my labour got going I wondered what all the hurry had been for Grin!

...and breathe!

Hi everyone, can I join you properly now? Had my scan yesterday, am 12 +3 today, due 11th June...so actually a whole week further ahead than I thought. Baby did a little wave and was just SUCH a relief to see the little heart beating away.

Got to go to work now, so will try and check back properly later but wanted to update you all before I left.

Good luck today crochet, hoping it goes really well at your scan....

and buffy how exciting for you! You've got me feeling all excited about 6 months time for me. What a lovely time to join the thread.
