Hello,

This may be a bit early as I know a lot can happen this early on but thought I would tentively see if there is anyone else in the same situation. Hmm

I found out I am 4 weeks pregnant this weekend. I am trying not to get too excited as it is so early but am finding it hard not to be! Blush

We have told my mum but have decided not to tell anyone else yet hence the reason I am here as I am desperate to talk about it.

Would anyone else like to join me on the 12 week wait and share feelings and experiences?

Argh it's been such a long time since I posted... so I am now 10 weeks today! Can't believe it's gone by so quickly.

We decided to go for a private early scan, as we were getting pretty much zero information via the NHS. So glad we did! We went last week and saw the little thing in 2D and 4D, both saw and heard it's heartbeat, and were relieved to find out there's only 1 of them (as twins run in my family!). So I've felt a lot more relaxed since then... and we've now started to tell our immediate families.

I have to say I was starting to like this little secret we were keeping and almost didn't want to say anything ;)

I also has my booking in appointment with my midwife now. OMG it's shocking her lack of medical knowledge! She started telling me all sorts of tales about how too many scans increases left handedness in babies (I've read those studies and it's complete rubbish!!), she didn't know whether or not I should have a flu jab, and she didn't know what one of the columns in the grid she fills out every time I visit means!!

And this is the woman who is going to deliver my baby?!?!?

witches · 21/11/2010 16:29

Hi nicola welcome glad there are some more people at very early stages for us to share the highs and lows!

jessi0343 · 21/11/2010 17:52

Hi Ladies! I just wanted to give some encouragement to all those in the waiting-game. We just had our scan a few weeks ago and the moment we saw the baby appear on the screen it made the last 12 weeks of waiting, silence, sickness, and anxiety, completely worth it!!
I was really ill between weeks 8-13, and we chose not to tell anyone till after the scan, so it was probably the hardest and longest wait of my life, and there were days I thought I just couldn't handle it! But now it all seems worth it, and i can really start to enjoy the pregnancy now! And it was great telling our families while having the scan with us, and news that so far it looked to be a healthy baby. My mom said she was glad i waited until I was 3 months to tell her because now she only has to wait 6 months for the new baby!!
So i just wanted to encourage everyone to hang in there and its all worth it when you get to that scan!

witches I had terrible horrible bloating right when I found out, at 4 weeks. I thought, theres no way i can be expanding so soon! But my jeans just were not fitting anymore. Then around weeks 7-8 severe vomiting and morning sickness starting and I actually lost quite a bit of weight, and the bloating stopped. Now at 14 weeks things are improved, my appetite is back, and trousers are starting to feel tight again!

witches · 21/11/2010 21:50

Well im still crossing everything that it will all be fine 12weeks seems an age away! lets hope the bloating passes at least i know for some people its the norm!thanksSmile

nicolamumof3 · 21/11/2010 22:02

jessi, i so appreciate what you are saying! Dh had to leave for work yesterday with me repeatedly being sick and in tears, i was awful and said he would call my mum to come over.

Nooooooo i kept wailing i don't want to tell my mum yet! Im only 6+1! a way to go yet til scan i'd love private one tho before xmas.

wickedwitchofwaterloo · 23/11/2010 11:25

Hi everyone

Sad news from me I'm afraid, levels dropped to 129 so was what I was expecting Sad

Feel horrible about the whole thing but on the positive side, I didn't even think I could conceive naturally, so am trying to focus on that above everything else Smile

Thanks to everyone who had their fingers crossed, just wasn't meant to be this time... Hope everyone else is doing well and all the best for your 12 week scans x

TransatlanticCityGirl · 23/11/2010 18:54

wickedwitchofwaterloo so sorry to hear your very sad news :(

i'm so glad to see that you're staying so positive about it. i know several people who have miscarried the first time (including my sister and sister-in-law, the latter of which took 3 years to fall pregnant the first time) and both were pregnant again within months.

wishing you all the best of luck xx

Ellie9 · 23/11/2010 19:06

brand new at this!

I am 7 weeks on Thursday.... a very unexpected pregnancy and a huge surprise.!

Congrats to all that are on the 12 week wait as well. btw if you get to 12 weeks is it all ok? I really do know nothing at all about this lark, did not even understand the whole ovulation business until I got pregnant! (and yes ahem I am 36 years old!)

SpannerPants · 23/11/2010 19:51

I'm so sorry wickedwitch x

JimmyChoo17 · 23/11/2010 20:50

Hey!

I am 6 weeks 3 days and been seen at EPU already due 2 previous losses.

I am so scared that I am losing again - mainly because of symptoms reducing (I had 1 MMC at 7 weeks found at 9 and 1 MC at 5-6 weeks). I have my next progress scan 1 weeks today! Its the LONGEST week ever... :(

WickedWitch - I am so so sorry. Nothing anyone can say makes it easier but you are dealing with it well by putting a positive spin on it.

Whats everyones symptoms been like at this stage and do they come and go alot?

x

TransatlanticCityGirl · 25/11/2010 15:24

Ellie9 the risk of miscarriage reduces significantly at 12 weeks. It's not impossible, but compared to the 25% chance in the first trimester, odds are quite good.

Also, I've heard if you can hear and see a heartbeat at 8 weeks, that's another good milestone.

20thJune · 25/11/2010 18:13

Yeay - I finally have a rough due date!!!

LDNlady · 28/11/2010 09:39

Oh my goodness! So my wait is almost over. In 24 hours I'll be in the maternity department, no doubt having not been seen yet, with a full bladder and dying for a pee!! :o

I am nervous, scared and excited all at the same time. Having found out so early that I was pg this bit seems to have taken an age to get here. Now I'm worried I'll get there and they will tell me something I don't want to hear. But, I am sure they won't and I am just looking forward to seeing our little one at last. :)

waterplate · 28/11/2010 17:20

WickedWitch -I'm so sorry to hear your bad news, I know how it feels having recently had an MC myself....best of luck for the future and your next pregnancy.

I'm due on 27th July so am 5+3 after a MC in July at 6 weeks and a couple of days. So nervous about telling anyone (just DH and I at present) but we're seeing both sides of family over Xmas and they'll spot it immediately that I'm not drinking (I am never one to turn down a glass of wine, let alone at Christmas!)

So, the plan is to tell my family when we see them a week before Xmas having had an early scan at 8 weeks (the day before we go to see them) and then tell DH's family over Xmas when we go to see them.

That way we'll know not to tell them if it's bad news, and if it's going well we will be that bit more likely to go full term (heartbeat at 8 weeks is meant to be good news as Transatlantic City Girl has said). So, delighted to join you all in the waiting game!

Laura05 · 28/11/2010 19:13

Hey Congratulations everyone! i found out last week im pregnant but we don't know for sure how far gone I am as i pretty much fell pregnant as soon as i came off the pill and with no bleeding at all during my 5 years on the pills, my GP can't date it but we're guessing 5-6 weeks. can't wait for my midwife to get into contact so that i can find out for sure! It hasn't quite sunk in yet tho, does anyone else feel like this?
PS does anyone else have really sore boobs!

squizzleg · 28/11/2010 20:21

Hey everyone! I found out last sunday that I'm pregnant with our first after 20 months of trying!

After three positive tests we decided to believe them and booked in with the GP on Mon. As I have PCOS and am on Metformin my GP wanted me to see the MW this week for the first appt and to be reviewed by my consultant re: Metformin.

Its so hard to keep quiet about the news but I'm pretty paranoid about mc and I'm analysing every ache and twinge! Roll on the scan at 12 weeks!

Take care everyone X X

Danilou22 · 28/11/2010 20:58

Evening ladies,

The midwife came round this morning which feels like a bit of a milestone. She stayed for about 2 hours going through everything in detail which was great. I am starting to have a little more energy as well now which I am hoping means I am getting over the worst of the first trimester! Just need to stop feeling sick and being sick and get rid of the horrible taste in my mouth (then I will just panic it is not a good sign!)Not long to wait now for the scan, 14th December, I can't wait now as it is starting to feel a little more real!

ImpatientCat · 29/11/2010 09:05

Hi all!
I am terribly new at this, just found out 2 days ago, and my mind has been racing ever since.

First question:
When using the due-date calendar I get August 1st, conception date November 8th (roughly, I know!).
When you all say how many weeks you are gone, do you count from the conception date or the first day of your last menstruation cycle?
Depending on that I guess I am either just starting my 4th or my 6th week.
Please say it's six, I'd love to be half way though the first trimester already!!

Second question:
Whether it's 6 or 4, it's still so early, and I'd rather not tell anyone. But I'd much rather have the pleasure of telling than have people guessing it. Problem is; (and how to say this without sounding like a complete alkie) my previous lifestyle has been of such a nature that a sudden shift to sobriety, in December of all months, will be promptly noticed by everyone who knows me.
Has anyone got any good excuses or tips on how to duck out of a boozy situation without bricking myself up until week 12?

Third question:
I know not everyone gets morning sickness, and I'm guessing it's a bit early for me to know if I do or not? When does it usually kick in? It sounds like although everyone hates it, it's seen as a good sign to have it, or is that just a bit of superstition?

That's it for me for now, let's hope I stay in this club until week 12!!!

minimagnet · 29/11/2010 12:18

Hi everyone,
After 8 months of ttc for our #2, I finally got BFP yesterday :) :)
In my last pregnancy I didn't find out until I was 10 weeks pregnant so 8 weeks till our first scan seems ages to wait.
All going well I think I might pay for an early scan between weeks 6-8. With it being around the time of the Christmas parties people will be wandering why I'm not having a drink, so it would be good to have a little reassurance before telling some friends Wink
Good luck everyone! :)

badkitty · 29/11/2010 12:35

Hi, I somewhat unexpectedly got a BFP on Friday - Impatientcat I think my dates must be pretty much exactly the same as yours, also not sure 'officially' how many weeks that counts as! I already look about 3 months pregnant though... Last time I barely showed till about 5 months - now I am contemplating digging out the nice comfy maternity jeans already!

I also have the problem re suddenly not drinking at christmas parties etc...

Really hope I stay the course here it is so early and just feels quite unreal, I am excited but really think I shouldn't get carried away yet.

minimagnet · 29/11/2010 12:49

Hi badkitty,

I know how you feel, its so surreal! It's hard not to get carried away... Grin

badkitty · 29/11/2010 13:07

Hi,

I think I might go for an early scan as well for some reassurance - how early can you get them do you think?
