Hello,

This may be a bit early as I know a lot can happen this early on but thought I would tentively see if there is anyone else in the same situation. Hmm

I found out I am 4 weeks pregnant this weekend. I am trying not to get too excited as it is so early but am finding it hard not to be! Blush

We have told my mum but have decided not to tell anyone else yet hence the reason I am here as I am desperate to talk about it.

Would anyone else like to join me on the 12 week wait and share feelings and experiences?

TransatlanticCityGirl I have had similar experiences! I went to the doctor after finding out I was pregnant, and she said she would sign me up for a midwife appt and 12 week scan. Of course I heard nothing and had to follow up for myself, calling the surgery numerous times. Finally in my 10th week did I get a letter for my scan, when I'll be 13.5 weeks along. And of course no options for date/time etc. Also coming from Canada originally I was not anticipating this level of difficulty getting appointments, etc.

But a lot of my friends have told me good things about the NHS so I'm trying to keep positive.
Oh and my midwife "booking-in" appointment was so ridiculous! The midwife was in an awful mood. My husband and I showed up all excited, as first time parents are, and the midwife was just so angry and mechanical, "sign here", "answer this", and just made the whole experience a bit of a downer. I know she must see so many of us pregnant ladies everyday, but you'd think they'd be trained to at least put on a smile and say something like... "congratulations"

Besides all that, am happy and excited to be pregnant! Scan is nearly a week away, and then we can tell everyone. yippee!!

Can I join in too?? Just joined MN, am 6 weeks on.... scary scary scary... first baby and am totally unprepared for this.

What's the best excuse for not drinking??? I can't tell anyone till, I guess, January, and over the Christmas period everyone will be trying to force drink down me (it has to be said that I used to enjoy the odd one or two, or ten) and it will seem totally out of character for me not to be drinking... is a phantom wisdom tooth infection necessitating antibiotics and therefore no alcohol a convincing story?

looseleaf · 01/11/2010 17:44

congrats all! Oldiemum does it work to say you're driving? or look like you're having something alcoholic eg appletize in a wine glass!!

Do you count from your last period? I'm pregnant after 3 years trying! Been told to have my first scan next week- much earlier than 12 weeks - so hoping all goes well

0ldieMum · 01/11/2010 17:49

Looseleaf, great idea, I'll take the car! Didn't think of that.. (-;

And yeh, you count from your last period.. which seems odd, but apparently that's what they do.. I didn't know that either...

tebbles · 01/11/2010 18:56

I ended up calling the doctors and asked about their procedures for pregnancy appointments. They want me to come and see the doctor herself, so I guess that is what I'll be doing. Im booked in for the week after next so at least I will be around 7 weeks and hopefully will have more symptoms and feel more pregnant than I do at the moment!

Excuses for not drinking alcohol?? Upset stomach, ate something bad for lunch, on antibiotics, on cold and flu tablets, on detox diet, driving, need to be up really early the next morning, had a big night the night before....

highheelsandequations · 01/11/2010 19:43

Hi, can I join? Found out on Saturday that I'm pregnant after 18 months trying and a very long journey. Think I'm about 4 weeks exactly (and trying to resist the urge to do another cd digi to make sure :) ). Excited but absolutely terrified and every twinge is causing me to panic.

Want2bSupermum · 01/11/2010 20:04

I am now 6+1 and this weekend we had to tell our friends at our weekly sunday dinner. One of the guys cooked gratin and it was making me green at the gills. He kept asking why I wasn't at least trying it. I told DH to tell our friends as I could tell they were getting miffed.

I normally tell people I am driving so no drinking for me. Failing that I tip $5 to the bartender for them to put ginger ale in a champagne glass for me on the quiet!

jasmine51 · 01/11/2010 20:19

Hi can I join? 7+4 with a history of mcs so mixture of excitement and absolute terror. Had 6 wk scan and hb visible but measurements small, got 8 wk scan next week. Very few symptoms apart from feeling really rubbish, oh and boobs are like zeppelins (sorry dh, get away from them, they hurt)
Havent told anyone except dh due to past experiences but there is another person who does know...a celebrity who was in the EPU at the same time as me Wink.
Today I had to confirm my menu choices for a christmas party - I'm sure there were knowing looks when I didnt choose the prawn cocktail!
Good luck everyone
x

Wow, loads more people, fantastic and jbrd of course you can stay you can let us all know what we can expect after 12wks xx

I was actually sick for the first time this morning. I have been feeling really really sick for the last week but this morning was terrible! I hope it does not get any worse!

My biggest problem seems to be the school guinea pigs Confused i had them at home during half term and the smell of them and the hay and sawdust just starts me off! I packed them up and took them straight back to school today. I think I am going to have to get my teaching assistant to clean them out for me it makes me retch just feeding them. My other half sorted out their cage here for me today thank goodness!

How bizarre is pregnancy!

Can I share a concern that I feel good this morning with no nausea, headaches and less sore boobs...worried that sypmtoms are declining. 8 wk scan on Mon, fearing the worst. Anyone else feeling well and worried about it?

shocked23 · 02/11/2010 12:50

Jasmine51 is this your first baby? I can assure you that every pregnancy has good and bad phases. If you're really worried speak to your midwife but I've just found out I'm expecting my 3rd child (totally unplanned but still excited) and I know the next 8 months are going to be full of highs and lows. I'm 5+4.

Congrats to everyone on their pregnancies xx

Unfortunately this is my 5th attempt with no babies yet hence the paranoia.
Dont want to bum anybody out, just wanted to 'dump' worries as have no-one here to discuss it with (dh works away).
Enjoying reading about everyones excitement though, good luck everyone
xx

glitterdust · 02/11/2010 13:04

Hello, am 6 weeks exactly I think.
Shocked - am also having a completely unexpected dc3, but now I've got over initial shock that was so bad I crashed the car into the wall of the house, I'm desperate for the little thing to be alright...
Jasmine - from my other 2 I remember symptoms disappearing, only to return with a vengeance the next day. Were always worse if I was tired or stressed. My boobs were agony yesterday, but can't feel them today.
I'd gone quite skinny after dc2, but already finding I can't bear my fav jeans around my new bloated tummy. Had to undo the button when seeing friends the other day, so as well as no alcohol, and eating about 4 peoples food, I think everyone's already guessed

jillamona · 02/11/2010 13:13

can i join in? i'm 7 weeks with my first and its so hard not to tell anyone. i got sent home from work last week because i was vomiting and of course one of the girls asked was i pg. but i'm determined not to tell anyone until 12 weeks. i'm not being negative but i am just so afraid that something bad will happen, does anyone else get this fear? i sway between excitement and fear about 100 times a day.also jamine51 i have the same worry as you felt awful last week but am fine this week so am worried that something is wrong. i was supposed to be going away in februray until june to do a semester abroad for college but will now have to let the college know that i can't go, have been putting this off as i don't want to tell them to early but feel i should let them know so they can offer the place to another student. as you can probably tell this pg wasn't planned but now me and my partner are absolutely delighted, hence the fear as well! i'm new to all this any advice would be great!

jasmine51 · 02/11/2010 13:47

Sound like alot of us having collywobbles today. Thanks glitterdust - perhaps it was because I had a great nights sleep last night. My aversion to chocolate has also disappeared so I am indulging to the full today...maternity clothes by 9 weeks at this rate whedther pg or not ha ha.
jillamona I can assure you that once you are pg, the 'time fairies' put everything into slow motion, so a day feels like a week etc. They also have a word with the 'screw-up' fairies and make sure your brain cells are completely scrambled with worry/ elation/ tears/paranoia etc. Welcome to the club!

bonnymiffy · 02/11/2010 15:08

I would love to join but not sure if I qualify as DH has told EVERYONE he knows pretty much, so no waiting to tell here. I am only at 9 weeks ish and haven't seen anyone yet. I've filled in a form for the midwives, but no idea how long it takes to get an appointment, or when it's likely to be for. I'm constantly tired, have a horrible taste in my mouth, feel sick in the evenings and am generally fed up!

pinkfoot · 02/11/2010 15:13

Hello. First time posting to MN but found it really helpful whole time I was pg last time round - thank goodness for these forums; midwives etc. were all about the admin but not much else. (DD1 arrived safely and has just had first birthday.)

Now about 5wks, maybe 6? Cycle was erratic for months before so dates are all guesswork. Have got cramps which are making me nervous - definitely a collywobbles day jasmine51, sorry to hear the stakes are so high for you, will keep fingers crossed. But the morning sickness has started and I'd heard that that was a sign things were going well because it means your hormones are doing what they're supposed to? Or was someone pulling my leg? Last time round I was really sick from wks 6 - 12, lost a stone in a month. I was worried but MWs didn't care. Not looking forward to doing that again. Are we supposed to be less sick second time around?

Have bypassed GP and made booking appointment direct with MW for next week.
Have stopped alcohol, caffeine (apart from occasional chocolate biscuit) and am taking pregnacare vitamins. Will ask MW for Ferrous Sulphate when I see her as got quite anaemic last time. Anything else to do at this stage to help pass the time? Is it too early to start pelvic floor exercises? Wink

Best of luck (and patience) to everyone!

Hoggles · 02/11/2010 15:52

I'm 11 weeks today and saw the midwife last week to fill in all the forms and have blood taken.
She said I'd soon hear when my scan is. I still haven't heard anything and they know I'm going on holiday on the 12th.
I'm very worried about this as I have no idea who to call as the midwife said they won't accept calls at her centre unless regarding booking/cancelling appointments and that the scan will be done elsewhere.

JBrd · 02/11/2010 16:12

Hoggles - ask you midwife where the scan will be done. I'd assume it'll be the hospital where you're booked in, and then you can call them directly.

I had a similar situation - met the midwife who told me the hospital would contact me with scan date. But - she also advised me to get in touch with them in case I didn't hear anything by week 10, as they can get very busy! Which I did - and when I phoned, they made the appointment with me there and then, so I'm glad I called.

catherineps · 02/11/2010 18:27

I hope my midwife will be more enthusiastic than yours jessi. I work with children and when I stop enjoying talking to them I'll do something else!

Hope everyone's OK, I've just started a new job so no time for symptoms!!

highheelsandequations · 02/11/2010 19:09

pinkfoot I'm also having cramps which are making me very nervous. Also couldn't get a GP appointment until a week on Friday so can't get any reassurance till then...

claire87 · 02/11/2010 19:27

Glitterdust - you crashed your car?? How are you so positive now? My 2 were being such a handful today and I honestly found myself just saying I can't do it, I can't look after 3 :(

daimbardiva · 03/11/2010 10:07

Not looking good for me now, I'm afraid - I've been bleeding for the last 2 days. Booked in for an early scan on Friday so hopefully will know more then :(
