I'm sure DS (2.7) is more than ready but have been putting it off as long as possible. Today is the day I bite the bullet.

I sneaked out in lunch break yesterday and bought:

2 potty's
1 loo seat things
12 pairs of pants
2 pairs tracksuit bottoms
Some fab 'Cars' stamps (combining DS favourite loves - 'Cars' and stamps)

So far we have had 3 wees on potty (woot, holler, high fives), 2 wees on floor.

Am calm, but bored to death. Want to go out and do stuff!

Is it ok to have Cbeebies marathon when potty training!?

When do they start to ASK????

oh no is it still not going well?

My DD is not asking to go you know. She just goes off and does it all herself. Im not even reminding her as i think it was annoying her..... what would he be like if left to his own devices?

I know you really want this to work, but he just might not be ready, and rather than keeping you and him stressed it might just be better to stop and try again in a month? Has he made much progress since friday? If not then i think that might be the best thing to do.

Failing that, start on the wine early!!! LOL

Nettee · 19/02/2008 10:53

I am with you mcnoodle - lucky catches only so far - no successes yet today but it is still the morning. If DS doesn't start asking by Wed evening I am definatly giving up.

chocolateshoes · 19/02/2008 13:13

Yippee! DS said 'I need to go to the toliet' - we ran up & he did his 1st loo poo! Yay!!!!!!!!!!! However he aslo did his 1st poo accident at lunchtime. One step forward....

Nettee · 19/02/2008 17:47

oh dear - 4 accidents today and that is all, no poo at all. I have given DS an early bath and put him in front of CBeebies with a nappy and his pajamas. I think part of the problem is that I am becoming dispondant and not encouraging him to sit on the potty very much. But then when I do he says he doesn't like it. Wees come out of the blue. Mind you a few of them have been when I have been paying him less attention - I wonder if he wants to go in private. Anyone done potty training from the other side of the bathroom door?

I think I will try again tomorrow if only to tell myself that I gave it a proper go but I don't hold out much hope. Need to develop more of a postive attitude or there will be no point.

Well done Chocolateshoes - sounds good

mcnoodle · 19/02/2008 18:15

Well we have been out and about today. It's been good for the soul, and ok on the potty front too. I did put him in a nappy after lunch for a nap and left him in it until 5ish. I think he's ready shoptilidrop, it's my erratic motivation that's more of a problem to be honest.

I'm going to send him to nursery tomorrow with one emergency nappy and hope that he is encouraged by the other children. He did start talking about the 'nursery potty' this morning, so I guess he's seen others using it and is gearing up for doing the same thing tomorrow.

Will see how it goes until Friday and then throw the (soggy) towel in if he hasn't asked by then. He definately has control, so that's a good start.

chocolateshoes - sounds very good - well done DS

Nettee, there's no harm in trying giving him more privacy. After all, the worst has already happened - many times

Vodka tonight

mcnoodle, its hard to keep motivated the motivation up isnt it. Maybe being at nursery will help tomorrow... fingers crossed for you.

Choc shoes... whoooohoooooo! congrats.

Still no accidents, she went to the childminders today too, and was fine. Im very pleased and feeling quite lucky about it all.

Hello - brilliant thread, can I join in ?
Started potty training today (DS 2.8) and all a bit of a non-starter. Tried pants - but he just wee'd in them - I think he thought they were just a nappy substitute, and that the new deal was that mummy would just change his pants each tine instead of his nappy....groan.
So spent most of the day with no pants, weeing on the floor at intervals and not really 'getting' that that wasn't what he was supposed to do. Also, kept mentioning that he didn't like sitting on the potty or the loo - have stickers, choc, seats, you name it, I bought it - to no avail.
Suppose it's only day one.
White wine has taken the edge off the boredom....

Welcome Mum1369 - the more the merrier! Keep going - its only day 1 as you say!

Well we've had no wee accidents today and we have been out in the car a fair bit. However he has done 2 poos in pants. Yuk! Its very unusual for him to do 3 poos in a day but I think there was a bit of a back-log (if you'll pardon the expression!) to get through. Plus I deliberately gave him lentil lasagne for lunch to get things moving! Hopefully he be a bit more regular tomorrow!

BTW I read in 1 of my books that boys particulalry are very inteested in where all the poo & wee goes so we have looked at the pipes leading out of the loo & discussed how it goes into a bigger pipe and then into the sea a long way away. DS is really nito this. It might help demystify the loo IYKWIM!!

Nettee - why not try him on the loo rather than potty? My DS won't use potty either.

Good stuff STD & keep going McNoodle!

Have such a dreadful cold need to take NightNurse but really also need red wine & not supposed to mix - what do you advise??

Mum1369 · 19/02/2008 20:03

Gosh, the week you've had, I would have both - or if I had to choose I would ditch the night nurse and have more wine.

chocolateshoes · 19/02/2008 20:09

That's what i was hoping you'd say. I'm drinking a glass or red now. DP will be out to work early in the morning so think I'd better stay off the NN in case it wrecks me for the morning. Have chocolate too - yay!

dylsmum1998 · 19/02/2008 21:23

having a good day potty wise. my dd started back in august ( she was 16 months and wouldnt keep her anppy on undid them and took them off as soon as they were wet) but then she started with her childminder in sept and was poorly allthrough oct and nov,so ended up back in nappies as was too much for her, finally got her diagnosed with asthma before christmas so is much better now.
today she didnt want to get dressed i didnt have to go anywhere so went along with her running naked almost all day. while she was playing came running in jabbering madly and said poryey( potty to her) so i sat her down on one and she pooed! i emptied and cleaned it out, put it back on floor she sat down and had a wee. then a couple of hours later i walked past the potty and there was wee in it!!
so today we had 1 poo 2 wees on potty and 1 wee on floor just before bed. how clever is she, she 21 months now
hope evryone else is going good

Nettee · 20/02/2008 10:35

Well done Dylsmum. We are starting a new day with pants and hopefully feeling a bit more positive. all the advice seems to be to perservere a bit longer but relax about it a bit so I might keep going a bit longer. Mum1369 sounds like we are going through a similar experience - lets hope we turn a corner today.

chocolate shoes - DS is more negative about the loo than he is about the potty. He is quite interested in flushing the loo though - maybe we should make more of a big deal about that.

Good luck to everyone for today

dylsmum1998 · 20/02/2008 11:26

nettee- good luck for today. you prob already do this but how about letting ds empty potty and flush toilet?
dd just had a wee on potty but didnt get her knickers down so was a bit upset when they were wet, so think will just leve them off for now while at home, til we start to get a bit more warning! i do have to go out tho to my sisters 45 mins down motorway not to sure what to put on her, dont really want to do nappies but dont think she auite ready for knickers that far. was thinking perhaps one of the swim nappies i have hundreds of- don't hold so much as nappy and look more knickers like!

chocolateshoes · 20/02/2008 13:14

Well done everyone - keep going! Lunchtime nap now for DS so a bit of a break for me although I really do need to mop kitchen floor & plan some lessons for next week.

So far, pretty good today. All wees in loo. 2 poos almost in loo - he told me he needed to go & both times we didn't quite make it for all of it!

oh the other thing DS really like is I got a bottle of that 'Kandoo' handsoap for him & he is v into the routine of wee, flush loo, wash hands etc.

Good luck with the Mway drive Dylsmum!

Mum1369 · 20/02/2008 13:31

Hello - Day Two, Captains Log (sorry couldn't resist !!)
We have had one wee on the carpet, one on the poty and one on the loo ! One poo on the floor (but whilst running to the loo...) and one down his leg (euch)
Feels a bit better tahn yesterday, chocolate seems to be the major incentive.
Going naked seems to be the key, pants just make him think he has a nappy on I think.
Good Luck girls !!

Nettee · 20/02/2008 14:18

another hit - yay! just one accident and one wee in the potty so far today. It is much nicer now that I am not putting so much pressure on all the time. Still don't think he really gets it though. And the wee in the potty went on the carpet after which shouldn't detract from DS's sucess but didn't make it so pleasing for me and we couldn't put it down the loo together but never mind - he got a sticker and a chocolate button and seemed quite pleased with himself.

well done chocolateshoes and mum1369.

chocolateshoes · 20/02/2008 14:24

How are we going to get them off the chocolate buttons?? have visions of giving them til he's 12 now!

DS still needs me to go with him although I suppose that';s to be expected with it being a toilet not a potty.

chocolateshoes · 20/02/2008 14:25

And well done Nettee!

Mum1369 · 20/02/2008 15:29

Well done guys !
I've just realised that DS1 is at nursery tomorrow....and we haven't actually progressed to wearing clothes yet, so not sure how that will go.
Nursery are happy to reinforce etc etc - but can't helpthinking this may set us back a bit...any ideas ? He can't really go commando at nursery...

Nettee · 20/02/2008 16:23

I am no expert but I expect nursary are well used to it - could you phone them today to discuss the plan?

we have had another accident since my last post but caught him mid flow and some went in the potty - oh the joy of potty training.

I have been reading the no cry potty training book which makes me think that maybe low key peristence over a period of weeks might be the answer - I was so hoping for a quick fix

chocolateshoes · 20/02/2008 18:56

that's 4 poos in 1 day now! Don't know what has got into him!!!!! The last one was in pants but to be fair he was with my Dad who wouldn't have noticed the signs. Roll on tomorrow! (starting to have slight doubts.... )

Nettee · 20/02/2008 19:12

Well DS is in bed again - I am getting into a bit of a pattern and we are both more relaxed so will maybe try again tomorrow and see if it clicks. only 3 wees all day - only one in the potty. Poo in his nappy this morning and after his bath this evening. Really think this might not work.

The no cry book says that potty training is usually complete between 2.6 and 4 years so actually 2.11 is quite early in that range...... Gina says toddlers are ready between 18 months and 2 years but then she says it is normal to have several accidents a week for months after the potty training week is done - so I would say that isn't really potty trained.

Good luck to everone for tomorrow

Bring on the wine
