I'm sure DS (2.7) is more than ready but have been putting it off as long as possible. Today is the day I bite the bullet.

I sneaked out in lunch break yesterday and bought:

2 potty's
1 loo seat things
12 pairs of pants
2 pairs tracksuit bottoms
Some fab 'Cars' stamps (combining DS favourite loves - 'Cars' and stamps)

So far we have had 3 wees on potty (woot, holler, high fives), 2 wees on floor.

Am calm, but bored to death. Want to go out and do stuff!

Is it ok to have Cbeebies marathon when potty training!?

Hi everyone!

PPH - poor little girl! I read somewhere that getting them to blow up a balloon can can help. Might be worth a try. Or maybe playing some songs on a CD player for her? Hmmm will see if I can think of anything else

BBW - hang on in there! He does sound as if he's making progress & I'm sure he would be much more distratced at nursery. My DS had 1 accident today - at playgoup. I knew he would. He was just too busy & not really bothered about doing a poo in his pants. As for cleaning him up, I get him to stand up & give a good wipe round with a couple of Kandoo wipes. I think the best way is to get them to lean forwards & touch toes but DS wasn't having any of that!

Am so ready for my wine tonight & may have to raid some of DS's choc buttons!

chocolateshoes · 22/02/2008 19:07

Mum1369 - how did he do at nursery?

mcnoodle · 22/02/2008 19:24

Hello Potty Training Geeks

I have had two hideous days at work, and am really happy to be sitting here with my wine and MN.

Sounds as though we have all been having mixed success.

DS been really good the last couple of days. Agree with you bbw that it's still more about prompting - he still doesn't really ask. But there haven't been too many accidents and he always squeezes out a wee on the potty (anything for a 'Lightning McQueen' stamp). He WILL NOT poo though - gets quite stressed out and is adamant that he needs a nappy. I think you might have to leave it for a bit PPH - just not worth them/you getting stressed about it.

How's your cold choc?

BBW - re clean bottoms - I just swish around, hope for the best and dunk him in the bath at the end of the day.

Am pondering how we can get them touching toes. Chocolate drops on floor/legs in splints is the only solution I can come up with atm

Still grim Mcnoodle - thanks for asking. Very little voice - not great for stories! Had to go out this afternoon so left DP incharge of toilet training this afternoon - ha ha!

Sorry work has been hard - what do you do?

Wendyjayb · 22/02/2008 20:45

Evening all
Just wanna say how proud i am of my ds. We started proper potty use last Sat and we had our first day of no accidents today
He's 2.3 and will no longer use the potty and wants to use the toilet.
I have to admit it's been kind of easy for me as i work full time and he goes to nursery, but i'm still sooooo proud of him xx

chocolateshoes · 22/02/2008 20:48

Well done Wendy & DS! You have earnt yourself some chocolate!!

Wendyjayb · 22/02/2008 20:50

Sounds good to me!!

mcnoodle · 22/02/2008 21:22

Well done Wendy - I was really pleased with the way nursery dealt with it all this week. They were more on the ball than me.

I'm a fundraiser for a big charity choc. Been on a really full on training course the last two days - made my brain hurt.

Am going to climb in the bath and then bed. Tomorrow I'm going to be vigilant potty monitor and hope that we crack it.

Night all.

Sounds like an interesting job Mcnoodle. Have a good sleep We will crack it!

PrincessPeaHead · 23/02/2008 01:13

thanks for the feedback everyone. I think I'll put her back in nappies and try her in a month or so. She's obviously physically ready for it but mentally not quite there poor little thing! Pity because she is very fond of her Peppa Pig Pants

Good luck all the rest of you with your poty training endeavours....!

Wendyjayb · 23/02/2008 16:25

We've had another fab day with ds.
No accidents, loads of wee's & LOADS of poo's on the potty and toilet

We even walked into town a while ago and i just took the insert to his potty in a bag and he stood up and wee'd in it while we were out

Fingers crossed, we've cracked it

Mum1369 · 23/02/2008 19:03

Hello !
WJ - V.Jealous and hoping to get there !
PPH - Tough one, at least she's got the idea now, you probably have a head start on next time. Mine wouldn't have a had a clue at 2.1 !
McN - Mine sounds very much like yours - will only wee (no poo at all today ?!), and only really interested in return for chocolate and stickers - but whatever floats his boat I guess - still mad willy twirling ?!
Choc - nursery was ; 2 accidents, 1 wee on the toilet (not too bad) Glad to hear you got a break, makes all the difference. How are you feeling today ?

chocolateshoes · 23/02/2008 19:26

Still feel awful! This is the worse cold in the world! DS brilliant with wees. Even happily went in Indian restaurant loo! Poos a bit hit & miss still. 1 accident - he told me just too late, & 1 in nappy during lunchtime nap.

Well done WJ!
Agree that your DD is v young PPH & has done really well. Good luck next time.

McN & Mum - think our boys are all at the same stage. They just don't care that much do they!

Mum1369 · 23/02/2008 19:56

Choc - think you are right, mine certainly does not give a sh"£1 (oooh bad pun)
I thinks it's boys - all my mates with girls sem to find they really care about getting wet etc - aven if they aren't being very succesful it seems to be for different reasons - ie they are brooding about the entire situation too much - as opposed to really not giving it a second thought unless there is chocolate involved...
However, this morning he actually asked my DH to take him to the loo (Cafe Rouge) -- so major breathrough I think ! So lazy - couldn't be bothered to make breakfast...Choc your cold is going on for ages - you need a day in bed to recover properly, guessing not much chance of that though ?

claraquitetirednow · 24/02/2008 11:05

Princesspeahead - not sure if you will read this or not but your dd sounds EXACTLY like mine up until about 10 days ago - she even has the PeppaPig Pants! She was holding it in all day and then when she went for a lunchtime nap would wee into her nappy. Twice in a row she came home in different clothes from the childminder because she had help onto so much liquid it had soaked out of the nappy and all over her clothes when she had relaxed enough (eg slept) to let it go.

So after this I thought enough was enough and I just perservered and perservered and kept pursuading her and eventually she did one wee on the potty.

And that is all it took! She has been almost potty perfect since then. She just needed to understand the concept of using the potty and realise it wasn't a scary thing.

I would definitely wait a week or two and try again. Good luck!

shoptilidrop · 24/02/2008 17:42

HI

Just wanted to report in. We are doing well, still no sccidents at all, and even went to the park yesterday. So shes been dry for just over 1 week and it took 3 days to train her.

I must say clara that myy dd with held her wee for the first morning, she didnt wee for 4 hours! and also once she had done that first wee inthe potty that was it. SOunds similar to your dd.

Good luck everyone.

chocolateshoes · 24/02/2008 18:58

well done STD!!!!

About the same as ever here. 1 wee accident - he was playing in garden but he did come & tell me afterwards. Poo in naptime nappy again. Dont know how we are going to stop that....

hi clara!
yes I'm SURE that is right, I bet after a single pee she'd be fine. the trouble is we couldn't get that first pee out, and after THREE DAYS of her holding it in I thought she was going to damage her bladder or get an infection or something. I'm delighted your little one managed to get past it!

I think we will try again at the beginning of the school holidays - ie in about a month....

Mum1369 · 25/02/2008 18:33

Hello - today seemed better - couple of misses and a couple of hits - major breakthrough..poo on the toilet !! Hurrah - never thought I would get this excited about poo...
Seems to be half heartedly getting the hang of it.

LittleMissTickles · 25/02/2008 18:40

PPH, my dd1 did exactly this. It was sooooo stressful for all of us as a result. In the end I backed off, she said that she would do it when she was 3. [here comes the terrible mummy bit] so when she was 2.8 we held a 3rd birthday party for her and the day after she started potty training again. Still held it in a lot, but not entirely surprisingly, when I decided to just relax and accept that she has a steel bladder, she started relaxing too, and stopped holding until bursting point. She is now 4.5 and still only needs to go about 4 times in 24 hours but there has been no anxiety about going potty since those days. So fwiw, try to RELAX about it!

chocolateshoes · 25/02/2008 18:45

Good stuff Mum1369!
No accidents here all day. 1 poo on loo but still waits for naptime nappy for the other poo. Don't know how to stop that one...

Mum1369 · 25/02/2008 18:53

Feed him less ??
Not really...
Well done, sounds like you are just about there. Cold cleared up yet ?
